This eyecup works very well for the glasses wearer. It is well made, and not too expensive. The only problem is in the detent design. It is easy
to knock off in the field. I have lost two in six months.

Photek The eXtender, 38" Telescopic Horizontal Tripod Arm with Ball Head. Review

Photek The eXtender, 38 Telescopic Horizontal Tripod Arm with Ball Head.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This arm is a high quality, well thought out accessory. It comes with a medium ball head with locking quick release camera plate. The plate clamp has the usual secondary locking lever to prevent accidental release. The camera mounted release plate is a Bogen-Manfrotto style plate, which is nice if you already use this QR system or have more than one camera. The included ball head is a simple single lever design, and operates smoothly, locking in position where you set it without shifting. There a 90 degree notch in the base that allows you to angle the head all the way over, but (like other ball heads) the top plate can hit the base when angling it all the way depending on the camera/position/adjustment/etc. It screws on to the arm end, so you could replace it with your own if you want. I like it the way it is.
The whole package is well though out, and the free end of the arm is weighted somewhat to help stabilize camera loads on the other end. The arm screws to your tripod at a right angle with the attached mounting plate. It comes with a brief user guide if you can't figure it out how to use it.
I like the arm adjustment, which uses nicely finished large diameter tubes in 2 sections, with solid clamps that are smooth and tight so it doesn't wiggle, shift or move when set. The weight of your camera, and the stability of your tripod will dictate the amount of safe extension you can use without unbalancing everything, but you get lots of adjustment here. It seems strong enough for any camera setup, within reason. I have a quality Bogen tripod with adjustable center column, and it's very stable.
Depending on the camera load, you could mount the whole rig directly to the column, to a tilt/swivel head, or to another ball head as I do. This is a fast way to get just the right angle, just be aware that the included ball head has no real tension feature, so even though it releases smoothly enough, keep one hand on the camera before loosening.
This Photek arm is a nice addition for macro or studio product shooting. It's nicely finished in all black, and It comes fully assembled and ready to go. If you shoot with a light tent, this is a must have accessory to get the camera positioned just right. You could easily spend more on a compact ball head alone. I've been using this arm for about 3 weeks now, and gave it 5 stars because I think its a good value, and more importantly, is a quality piece of gear that will last a long time.

OP/TECH USA 5301412 Bino/Cam Harness-Webbing Review

OP/TECH USA 5301412 Bino/Cam Harness-Webbing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this harness for use with a Nikon D300 which is a much heavier camera than my last and do not regret it. I have a neck injury which makes it hard to hang or tie anything around now, so this harness is a Godsend. It's very adjustable and easy to use, but takes a little getting used to slipping on after being used to a neck strap and takes a little longer to do. Still, if you need this, it's worth doing and a huge convenience in the end. I don't like my camera swinging around and knocking expensive lenses on things, so being able to keep an eye on my equipment is wonderful.
There are a couple of drawbacks I've noticed however. It's hard to use liveview in the LCD monitor because the harness holds the camera too close unless you adjust the straps way out away from your body. Also it seems necessary to adjust the straps way out for general use and reading menus being as I'm far sighted these days. I don't care to wear glasses while taking photos, so for me this is a slight problem. Your results may vary.
Another thing I had issue with is with the easy connect system. You must attach the second section of the clips to the camera where they remain while the harness is not in use. These clips are fairly large albeit sturdy. What I did to circumvent this problem was to buy plastic swivel clips to attach the clips to first, then use swivel clips on the camera eyelet. It would have been nice had the manufacturer considered the possibility that not everyone would love their idea of a quick connect system and provided other options. This would have saved a good deal of time and effort figuring out what to do and where to get what was needed to make this harness work best for my equipment.
Overall I'd recommend this product all the same, but advise the buyer to think about their needs and intended use.

Pentax AF 360 FGZ Flash for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras (w/ case) Review

Pentax AF 360 FGZ Flash for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras (w/ case)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Pentax flash offers all stuff you'd expect from a basic AF flash (power zoom, bounce, AF illuminator), plus a bit more.
Like most of the camera companies, Pentax offers a basic and more advanced (or powerful) flash. As basic flashes go, this one only lacks "swivel" (side-to-side adjustment) from ranking 5-stars. In terms of exposure accuracy, this flash ranks equal to the best.
Useful features included that aren't typically found in cheaper flashes are:
1) Built-in wide angle diffuser. Need a bit more width in the coverage? A pull out panel is located in the top of the flash;
2) Built-in "catch light". This small, white card is in the same space as the diffuser. If using bounce, this will help elimate shadows caused by the bounce, and puts a little gleam in the eye;
3) High-Flash synch. Most useful for outdoor portrait photography, this allows you to set the shutter speed to faster than normal, allowing you to control the depth-of-field;
4) "Spot Beam" function. In low light situations, the AF illuminator in the flash fires to help the AF system of the camera. The SB features allows the illuminator to work even when the flash is not used for exposure (such as in a museum);
5) Command functions. Unlike the Nikon SB-600 or Canon 430EX, this flash can be used to control and trigger multi-flash operations.
A very good basic flash, only a swivel away from 5-star perfection!

Lensbaby The Composer for Canon EF mount Digital SLR Cameras Review

Lensbaby The Composer for Canon EF mount Digital SLR Cameras
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I took the time to use the Lensbaby Composer on my Panasonic G bodies, my Canon 40D and my Canon 5D Mk II for a total of about 200 purposeful images before writing this review. I didn't want to approach the Lensbaby with any bias or preset expectations, nor did I want to prematurely fire off a trivial review after taking a few casual images. I hope you find this review helpful.
I consider the Lensbaby prices rather steep for what you get, so I held off buying one for quite some time. The Composer looked to me to be the first viable implementation of the Lensbaby, not being attracted to the hand and finger gyrations required to work the other versions such as the Original, 2.0, and Muse. I also wanted to be able to lock in specific shots.
Mechanically, I was disappointed with the operation of the manual focus ring. It is not smooth and consistent during its entire rotation. At the closest focusing distance, the ring rotation is jerky. After a quarter of a turn or so, it smooths out and becomes consistent. Unfortunately, many of my shots are taken at or near the minimum focus distance. For a manual focus lens only, the Composer needs to provide an optimal focus experience. It misses the mark. I can live with it, yes, but it's annoying and shouldn't be happening on a lens in this price range. The mount, however, is machined nicely and fits snugly. The locking ring works well, allowing a good degree of how much friction you want applied to the lens movements. The lens cap is of questionable build quality, and the lettering on the front of it arrived partially rubbed off, or never painted on. Not very attractice for a brand new lens.
Optically, the Composer comes with the Double Glass Optic, consisting of only two glass optical elements, each multicoated. Being a primitive optical formula with erratic (if any?) quality control, you can rest assured of chromatic aberration, vignetting, decentering, flare, veiling, distortion, and any number of optical gremlins that normally leave photographers in painful grimace. Once you start twisting and turning the Composer to move its "sweet spot", what Lensbabians call "bending", those gremlins multiply and intensify. If the Lensbaby teaches you nothing else, it will be an appreciation for the efforts of optical engineers to tackle those nasty gremlins so that we may produce images of technical quality with our regular lenses. However, as strange as this may sound, you're either going to embrace these gremlins and enlist them as agents of creativity, as I chose to do, or you're going to be sending the Lensbaby back to take advantage of their 30-day money-back guarantee, which I was tempted to do.
The Composer includes aperture disks that control the size of the area that is in focus. The Composer has an approximate focal length of 50mm and, sans any aperture disks, it's rated at f/2. But wait, there is quite the rub with that focal length. It's 50mm, true, but only on a full frame sensor body. On cameras with "cropped" sensors, and that covers the majority of cameras being used at this time, the effective focal length changes. On a Canon 7/10/20/30/40/50D and all Rebel digital cameras, that 50mm becomes an 80mm lens. Ugh. Not exactly a versatile focal length. To remedy that, well, be prepared to spend more money. There are two wide angle adapters available: a .42 and a .6. Both of them introduce even more chromatic aberration, and with the .42, hideously so. There are aperture disks for f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16 and f/22. Changing these disks can be an awkward exercise, especially if you're shooting from a tripod and don't want to disturb your setup.
There is a clever optical swap system the Lensbaby employs to switch to a variety of optical setups. I also purchased the single optic system, which is even more primitive than the double glass optic. It's just one glass uncoated element, less sharp than the double optic, and hosting a variant breed of the optical gremlins mentioned above.
The Composer, as it ships, does not have a very close focus distance. If you're going to hang onto your Lensbaby, an investment in the macro kit is a no-brainer. It includes +10 and +4 closeup filters that simply screw into the front of the optic. They are also stackable, but if you do stack, place the +10 closest to the lens, and screw the +4 on top of it. With either of both macro filters, you'll gain the ability to close focus. It is in the macro mode that I find myself making some of my favorite Lensbaby images.
Likely, you'll find the Lensbaby to have a steep learning curve. You'll have to become familiar with how your camera body works in its non-automatic modes (Program, Aperture Priority or Manual), as the Lensbaby has no automation to it whatever. It does not automatically change lens aperture settings, nor will it automatically focus. The camera body does still compute exposure automatically, but bending the lens may throw the auto exposure off, as light is now bouncing around at crazy angles. You'll need to monitor your histogram and know how to dial in exposure compensation. If your body has it, LiveView is a godsend, enabling you to zoom in on areas you want to manually focus. Also, if you change to aperture disks smaller than f/4, it becomes increasingly difficult to focus with accuracy as your viewfinder grows dimmer and dimmer. LiveView uses video gain to brighten your LCD. Invaluable. As for how to move the sweet spot to the desired location, practice makes the closest thing to perfect you're going to find with the Lensbaby. In summary, you'll need to learn to master your camera in its more manual modes and learn the trickiness of the Lensbaby lens movements to achieve successful images.
If you go to the user forums at the Lensbaby web site, you'll be able to view many images taken by its members, for better or for worse. I often find Lensbaby images to fall into the "trick shot" category, akin to those made by fisheye lenses. Overall, I view them as gimmicky. Sometimes you'll find an image that really works for you, but much of the time, they're muddy blurry mis-takes that make you wonder why anyone would want to degrade, even brutalize, the sophisticated sensors embedded in your expensive dSLR.
Be forewarned: you may not enjoy using the Lensbaby, and you may find the resulting images to quickly wear out their welcome. I consider the current Amazon rating to be higher than it deserves to be. There is comfort to be found in the 30-day money-back guarantee -- you'll only be out the return shipping costs and your time.

Giottos has designed a sturdy, nice to hold monopod that supports my Nikon D40X with an attached 70-300mm lens. I plan to use this monopod for vacation and at home uses, nothing too demanding. And this is just the ticket. I have a camcorder and the monopod's handle makes it easy to take panning videos. The legs are adjusted by turn-knobs, not flip locks. Still, when all knobs are tightened, the monopod is sturdy and a joy to hold. The padded holding area is rib-like, and made of non-slippery material that helps your hand and arm remain steady. I purchased an extra release plate for this monopod, also through Amazon.com. The plate is called a "Giottos Spare Quick Release Plate for Tripods". It's model no. is 6E01. So far, I'am real satisfied with my purchase. I like this light-weight monopod.

So before I talk about how ridiculous the instructions are that ship with the product, I will say it's a really nice hand grip. Top quality. The main drawback is - once you get it on, it's going to be a total pain to get off to swap out for a neck strap.
So I get the product and i open up the nice packaging and the "instructions" are printed on the inside of the packaging. Only problem is you can't read the damn things. Either they ran out of ink or they hired a cheap printing company, but the top 3 illustrations are next to impossible to read. The bottom 3 are barely better. This isn't the kind of thing you can discard the directions and do it yourself. You'll never get it correct.
So i scanned the instructions, brought them into photoshop and worked on the light and contrast levels. Then I could read them. You'll be amazed how much easier it is when you can see what you're supposed to do.

Canon EF-D Focusing Screen for Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera Review

Canon EF-D Focusing Screen for Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The usefulness of the grid lines on this focusing screen grows on me as I use it. This should really be the default focusing screen that Canon installs on every 40D since it is quite easy to ignore the grid lines within the viewfinder if you do not care to use them for reference. Note that the grid lines do not divide the viewfinder image exactly into thirds, if you were expecting some "rule of thirds" composition aid here.
The installation instructions are fairly clear; I switched the focusing screen in just a couple of minutes. After screen installation, remember to set the 40D to use the "Ef-D" Focusing Screen option: (1) From the Menu, go to the Custom Function Set IV (Fn IV : Operation/Others); (2) Select and set the (1 : Ef-D) option.
One thing that is not mentioned in the installation instructions is that the Canon-Europe Web site actually has a nice video how-to that describes how to replace the focusing screen (see the "Comments" section of this review :-)

I purchased this harness for use with my Nikon D80 and a Nikkor 18-200 lens. The camera and lens are quite bulky and heavy and I needed a solution for hiking. This elegantly simple harness works beautifully. I can carry the camera all day hiking through the Rockies without neck or back fatigue, without the camera swinging side to side or front to back and yet with it quickly and easily available for use. When I bend down to examine something or simply tie my shoe, the camera doesn't fall into the middle of whatever I'm doing. A friend bought the harness for his Nikon Stabilized binoculars and has reported back that it works beautifully with the binoculars as well. I've been delighted with my purchase.

This is the second Built NY item that I've bought and I must say, I am continually impressed by the designs offered by this company!
The back of this case is a stiff form-molded tray that cradles your device of choice while still providing the soft cushioned protection you'd expect from this material. Made of neoprene, it is the same material used to manufacture wetsuits. While this design is NOT impervious to water, it would offer some moisture protection in the case of accidental spills or a bit of rain. This material is also stain resistant. The material is naturally stretchy and conforms snugly to the size and shape of the device inside.
The rear of the case has a generous stretchy sewn-in handle that one could easily thread a belt,Velcro strap, or harness through - it also easily accommodates a hand and is actually quite comfortable. I find this to be a smart and flexible feature of the case.
Though marketed as a camera case, this cute little slip-on cover perfectly fits my iPhone (even with a thicker style iPhone cover on the phone). The thinner poly-carbonate cases allow the iPhone to slip in and out of this pouch much easier than those designed with more pronounced anti-slip features or are made of thicker plastic material.

Pelican PCA50 50mm Neoprene Lens Case

This is a wonderful little camera accessory that I stumbled on at a small local camera store. They're hard to find, but worth it IMO. They seem to be almost the same as the Op/Tech Snoot Boot pouches, however they look to be made better- the seams are well-stitched and 'sealed', and the drawstring run is a strong fabric, rather than neoprene. The belt loop is wide enough, even on this smallest size, for a ~2" wide belt, and the clip is handy, although I don't trust it (or the belt loop I'd be hooking it to) with larger, heavier lenses. These pouches are a great way to carry a few extra lenses that are too big to fit in a pocket, without having to carry your whole camera bag. Much better protection than the microsuede pouches that most lenses include.
The sizes seem to be under-rated by a bit. My Nikon 16-85mm VR zoom lens shouldn't fit in this pouch according to the stated size, but it fits great, and is swimming with extra room in the larger PCA-100 case. I also use the PCA-50 for my 35mm and 50mm primes, and Nikon 85mm Micro. The PCA-100 is probably the ticket for fatter lenses such as the 18-200mm VR and 105mm VR Micro.

I bought this retail, and threw a 486RC2 ball head on it. Phenomenal build quality. The bottom section is wide, and there is a very nice rubber foot on the end that is as large as I expected.
I already forked over $65 and got a crappy monopod from B&H called a "ShotPod". It is only good for a stand to attach a remote flash to, and not for what a monopod should be for.
It doesn't collapse as small as the 4-section, but let me tell you that seeing them together makes the decision easy. The 4-section is heavier (more hardware), and the last leg (bottom-most) is very small compared to the 3-section. That also means the rubber foot is smaller, which of course means quicker wear, less stability, etc.

I am using a 1.5x Olympus Teleconverter with a 55 to 52mm step down ring and the results are simply wonderful! The additional 1.5x reach - without having to use Digital Zoom or Cropping ensures much better results.
Please do note however that once you attach this adaptor, you will only be able to use the tele end of the zoom. If you zoom back to the wide end, the image will look like you are viewing it through a tube / tunnel.

Exactly the right fit for my Canon Powershot SX10 IS, there's room for the camera and lens hood, a lens cleaning kit, mini tripod, SD cards and TWO SETS of extra batteries. All this in a well constructed bag that's not too bulky and offers superior protection for my camera.
Only slight beef I've got is that the sewn-in microfiber cloth leaves so much lint on the camera lens it's outright unusable. HOWEVER...
...haven't done it with this model yet, but I've owned two other LowePro camera cases that washed nicely in a FRONT-LOADING machine. I used cold water, avoided fabric softener and hung them indoors to dry. I expect when I give this bag its first laundering, the lint on the sewn-in microfiber cloth will be a thing of the past, and what a handy little extra it will be.

Tamrac 3536 Express 6 Camera Bag (Khaki) Review

Tamrac 3536 Express 6 Camera Bag (Khaki)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had a critical criterion when shopping for a bag for my new SLR: it must not look like I am carrying a camera as much as possible. This way, I can carry the bag more often without being conspicuous. And this bag definitely delivers.
First off, the style and colour is really quite a departure from most camera bags. Without knowing this bag, it could easily pass off as an ordinary messenger bag. If orange isn't your thing, this also comes in all black.
Also important is that this bag isn't as thick sideways as bags of comparable size, so it doesn't stick out as much. Perhaps this is at the expense of some protection or additional storage, but I think it was an extremely good decision because it makes it look a LOT less bulky, and makes carrying it much more comfortable.
The strap is an over the head shoulder strap. Many camera bags of this size only come with shorter shoulder straps. This one makes it a lot easier to carry, and not only that, more natural as well.
Compared to other Tamrac bag with the same size, this one is missing the main bag zipper. I personally find it a plus, since it makes the bag smaller, and also the camera more accessible.
In term of storage space, this one fit my K100D with kit lens well (in fact, a little too well. If your camera is thicker, it may protrude off the top a bit.) Two slight problems present themselves. First, the camera strap takes creativity to get fit inside the bag. It's easier not to. The other problem area is that the presence of the lens cap made the bag a tighter fit. (Without the bayonet lens cap, it's a lot easier.) I don't have extra lenses, but I don't think it'll fit one on each side. In fact, the guide indicates just that; you can only fit lenses on one side; the other side can only fit something smaller, like flash.
!!! UPDATE !!!
I have since purchased a couple of primes; three in total. I have in fact been able to add all three of them to the bag; two on one side, another one on the camera grip side: all facing up. The bag bulges a little, but the fact is that it is able to fit lenses on both sides.
~~~ END UPDATE ~~~
The flap itself is a zipped storage, but has no real thickness. It has a back pocket area, but again no real thickness. Under the flap us is a decent misc. pocket area.
The one thing about Tamrac is I don't like the flap lock. It's unconventional, and in my opinion difficult to use.
At any rate, for a bag that is competitively priced with others that are the same size, and much better looking, this one deserves 5 stars for a job well done. The only comparable bag that I have seen at the store is from National Geographic that costs almost 5 times as much.
I am rather picky when it comes to choosing a digital camera and even pickier when it comes to choosing a case to protect said camera. I want to protect my investment with a product that is reliable and readily provides superior protection for said investment. The BOXIE camera case is that product and my preferred choice for my Canon PowerShot SD400.
It comes with a dutiful zipper that encloses the hardened case for added protection that I found to be comprised of very sturdy materials. The zipper also doesn't jam easily and handles the grooves of the case with excellent precision. I was also rather impressed with the internal pouch that comes with the case. It is perfect for holding flash drives or additional memory cards for your camera.
The stated feature of the case is that it only open up to a 45 degree angle for the purpose of preventing your camera from accidently slipping out. This feature is exactly as the developer describes for that was one selling point that caught my attention. I'd really prefer to not have my camera slip out accidentally and this case provides the perfect feature for that preventative measure.
Also, the interior is a very soft material that will not scratch your camera in any way shape or form - even when removing the camera from the pouch! I have really enjoyed this feature as well.
I would strongly recommend the BOXIE camera case for your Digital Camera. It is highly reliable, quite affordable, and you will receive far more than you bargained for. Great buy!
