ProMaster 7500DX Flash for Canon Version 2.0 Review

ProMaster 7500DX Flash for Canon Version 2.0

keep in mind i'm new to photography. so, i really have nothing else besides my on-camera pop up flash to compare this flash unit to.
the difference in your flash photography will dramatically DRAMATICALLY improve with the use of this flash. it will improve even more with the use the Sto-Fen Omni Bounce flash difuser. being able to aim and "bounce" the light from this flash makes 'red eye' and washed out color a thing of the past. not to mention you will no longer blind your subjects because you can aim the flash away from their faces. you can also use this flash as a slave (stand alone) for those impossible lighting needs.
since i'm a beginner, i keep it set to the automatic mode. it does a great job, but if i ever decide to go the manual route, i can.
if you're still depending on your pop up flash, do yourself a favor and buy this product.

SP Studio Pro Mini Suction Cup Slave Strobe Review

Slave flashes are the best thing since sliced bread for taking good flash photos without a lot of technical stuff!
Just put this flash where it will fill in some light, turn it on and take your flash shot as usual. The flash on the camera must be turned on, because that's what fires this slave flash.
It doesn't mess up the exposure, but provides enough light that your photos loose a lot of the flat look that an on-camera flash provides.
If you want to take photos of small objects to post on the internet, a couple of these on either side of the subject will help you make clear, professional looking photos.
If taking photos indoors at a special occasion, you can leave the flash on, and pointed at a light colored wall, and it will work with other people's flash photos, too, improving the quality of the lighting for everyone.
I also like that it takes AA batteries. If you go on vacation and your rechargeables die, you can always find someplace to buy some. When camping, I found them at the camp store.
It's small and light to carry, too.
I haven't used it a lot yet, but the results have been excellent so far!

Pentax AF 360 FGZ Flash for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras (w/ case) Review

Pentax AF 360 FGZ Flash for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras (w/ case)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Pentax flash offers all stuff you'd expect from a basic AF flash (power zoom, bounce, AF illuminator), plus a bit more.
Like most of the camera companies, Pentax offers a basic and more advanced (or powerful) flash. As basic flashes go, this one only lacks "swivel" (side-to-side adjustment) from ranking 5-stars. In terms of exposure accuracy, this flash ranks equal to the best.
Useful features included that aren't typically found in cheaper flashes are:
1) Built-in wide angle diffuser. Need a bit more width in the coverage? A pull out panel is located in the top of the flash;
2) Built-in "catch light". This small, white card is in the same space as the diffuser. If using bounce, this will help elimate shadows caused by the bounce, and puts a little gleam in the eye;
3) High-Flash synch. Most useful for outdoor portrait photography, this allows you to set the shutter speed to faster than normal, allowing you to control the depth-of-field;
4) "Spot Beam" function. In low light situations, the AF illuminator in the flash fires to help the AF system of the camera. The SB features allows the illuminator to work even when the flash is not used for exposure (such as in a museum);
5) Command functions. Unlike the Nikon SB-600 or Canon 430EX, this flash can be used to control and trigger multi-flash operations.
A very good basic flash, only a swivel away from 5-star perfection!

Battery, AA NiMH 4 pcs. 2700mAh Review

Battery, AA NiMH 4 pcs. 2700mAh

These Powerex AA rechargeables are the best I've tried.
I've tried several different brands of NiMH AA batteries (Delkin @ 2900 mAH, Power2000 @ 2500 mAH, La Crosse @ 2600 mAH, Duracell @ 2650 mAH, and DigiCam @ 1800 mAH). I use the La Crosse BC-900U charger on all of them so that I can see to what capacity they can be charged to, and even the La Crosse batteries that came with it can't be charged up to their own stated capacity. Duracell and Delkin both had a dud in each 4-pack of AA batteries. For all five manufacturers, the fully charged capacities of their AA batteries never exceeded about 80% of their stated capacities. None ever came close to a "full charge'. There was always at least one in each pack (excluding the dud in each pack) that would only charge up to about 50-60% of capacity, which would lead to a premature "Low Battery' shutdown of my camera.
The Powerex on the other hand, all charged to 95%+ of their rated 2700 mAH capacities and really last!.

Bought this flash and grip for my fuji s7000. could'nt find one that was specific to this camera but tried this anyway. Results were very very good - night and day difference from using built in flash and set up was very straight forward. Plus side I did'nt have to worry about other flashes having voltage issues or needing adapters. Flash is very quick to be on the ready status - still playing with it to see how long battery lasts but otherwiswe excelent purchase. Took a while to get here but the wait was worth it.

Kit includes: 1) Cameta 2800 Automatic Electronic Flash; 2) Sunpak Digital Camera Slave Grip. >>> The Cameta 2800 Flash has two automatic power settings, a correct exposure verification indicator, a bounce head adjustable up to 90-degrees for soft lighting effects, and energy-saving thyristor circuitry for faster recycling and longer battery life. While most camera's built-in flash units are only effective from a distance of 8 to 12 feet, the Cameta 2800 Flash gives you the freedom to be more than four times farther away. With this much additional flash power, it's almost like having a bolt of lightning at your command. >>> The Sunpak Digital Slave Grip has a comfortable contoured hand-grip with quick-release camera platform and enables the use of the Cameta 2800 Flash as a wireless remote "slave" to complement your camera's built-in flash. The Digital Slave Grip can even be used off-camera with the 2800 Flash as a remote slave for more professional and creative lighting effects. >>> The built-in flashes of most digital cameras emit a "pre-flash" and/or a "red-eye" pulse that fires before the shutter opens, followed by an additional flash pulse which actually lights your picture. This "pre-flash" or "red-eye" pulse confuses other non-digital flash and slave units, causing them to go off at the wrong time, rendering them useless for your digital camera. But the advanced pulse-counting digital circuitry of the Sunpak Digital Slave Grip is not fooled by the "pre-flash." Five LED-indicated pulse-counting and delay-variations are incorporated into the Digital Slave Grip allowing it to ignore "pre-flashes" and fire the powerful 2800 Flash at the precise moment your camera requires. Set it up with your camera's built-in flash just once -- using our included easy-to-follow step-by-step directions -- and you are all set for noticeably better flash pictures from that moment on. >>> Requires a total of 8 AA batteries, available separately.

XLF-50 Flash for Nikon Review

XLF-50 Flash for Nikon
Average Reviews:

Pros: tiny, lightweight, simple to use, 90 degree vertical swivel, flash correction (EV adjust) from -1 to 1 in 0.5 stops.
Cons: recycling rate (time between charges) can be slow (around 1 sec unless batteries are new). No sideways tilt (useful when taking vertical shots), although there are simple fixes.
Do you need it: Most of the built-in flashes from Nikon are excelent. I only use an exernal flash under 3 conditions: 1) when I need to bounce the light either for a softer look or because I'm fotographing my infant (please never fotograh infants or very small children directly pointing a built-in flash at them); 2) when using a wide angle lens. In this case the built in flash can leave a shadow in the bottom of the image. Finally 3) if you need to shoot fast at longer distances, it refreshes faster than the built in flash (but only with new batteries, if this feature is important to you, consider spending the extra $30-40 for the Nikon SB-400).
Summary: an inexpensive flash, and definitely an alternative to the Nikon SB-400 unless you need a fast recycling rate (Nikon's refreshes much faster). If you are taking a vertical shot and need to bounce the light, a small mirror taped to the side of the flash or a piece of white paper taped like a hood over the top (but not covering the light) works like a great diffuser box.

I have this flash and I must say it is very powerful and very accurate when used in TTL mode. The unique design functionality make sit great for macro photography on a budget. Just do not be fooled by the picture; it is a horizontal design with a low profile but his is a big square unit. It uses 4 AA batteries and has a pc cord contact. If you can get below $75 it is a no brainier.
Just be advised, it will only work in Auto mode with your Nikon DSLRs.
Cons - small buttons, tiny screen, learning curve, bigger and heavier than you expect,
No DSLR TTL.

I'm new on flash Photography. I've been shooting landscapes and wildlife for 14 yrs, and thought I would try my luck on Portraits. This Sunpak PZ42X is the perfect addition to my Photography gear. I didn't want to spend alot of money on the Canon 580, so with reading many great reviews, I decided to go for it. Works great for bounce flash, and is totally compatible with my Canon's E-TLL-11 functions. Manual settings are really easy to use also, and it has a built in wide angle deflector which works well with my Canon 18-55 3.5-5.6 IS lense. Way to go Sunpak! Just another tip!!!! Get a few sets of rechargable batteries. If your like me I love to play with my new toys, you can eat up some regular batteries! LOL!! I truly recomend this for beginners in flash photography, and pros that need a good slave flash.

It's rare that I love a product this much.
Note that if you want to bounce the flash off the ceiling, it's easy to do, but not obvious: the 1/4" white glassy part at the front actually flips up. I was actually going to return it before a friend pointed out how to turn that bit of the contraption up. (Dumb me!)
Most excellent product for Nikon cameras - get it!

I've been using this speedlight as part of a Nikon CLS operation with a D700 operating as the master flash (fill) controlling one SB900, and this SB-R200. So far, it's all been portrait work. I'm using the 200 as a back, highlight flash. What's to say? It works well for a close in flash. It is always sitting within 10 feet of its target and I get reliable illumination on every shot. It integrates well with CLS allowing me to control output from the camera.

If you are a pro then you need more features than the sb400 can provide but for amateurs and beginners like myself the value is there. Spending $100 on a flash seems outrageous to me and most people I know so spending 2 times or even 3 times that was hard for me to swallow.
I'm glad I bought the kit because the diffuser really helps to lessen redeye indoors. You can also rotate the flash to bounce off the ceiling if the ceiling is low enough and bright enough. In other cases you should use the diffuser.
The battery back is a generic deal. They work and hold charge so its good enough for me.

Nikon SB-400 AF Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Review

Nikon SB-400 AF Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you need a small flash that is a lot more powerful than the on-camera flash on your compatible Nikon camera, this is a great flash. More than anything, it's a better than on-camera flash that also has bounce capability, which none of the on-camera flashes do. For me, it doesn't replace a full-featured flash like and SB-800 or SB-600, but is a lot smaller and lighter for many times when you don't need the big mama. It's not powerful enough for instance to bounce if the ceiling is higher than 10 or 11 feet with lower ISO settings, where the SB-800 can still reach. I have found I don't use it as often as I thought I would, but that's really because I've not gotten into the habit of using a fill-flash as much as I should. That's not the fault of the flash.
It is fully automatic, which really means there's nothing to set or control on this unit. If your camera isn't compatible, basically this flash won't work for you. If it is compatible, it works great and seamlessly. I use it with a D200, D70 and CP8400, and it works great with all of them.
One thing to keep in mind is if you were thinking of using it as a "better" main flash on for instance a D200 in wireless remote flash mode, think again. Only the actual in-camera flash can be used in the remote commander mode on a D200. And, this unit is NOT capable of being a remote flash in wireless flash, either. So basically, don't consider it as part of wireless remote flash operation. It's a better than in-camera flash, not a wireless flash.
Also keep in mind as far as I know in the Coolpix line only the 8400 and 8800 are fully compatible with this. Most of the newer DSLRs are, though. If your camera isn't i-TTL, it's not the flash for you. Check the compatibility before you buy.
If you want a small and fully integrated flash for your Nikon digital, it's a great unit.
