(More customer reviews)I was very happy with everything that was in the kit except for the quick charge battery charger. The battery charger was a piece of junk. Shortly after plugging it into the wall outlet the charger became very hot and so were the batteries. I quickly unplugged the unit and pulled the batteries out of the charger. Later I finished charging the batteries in a slow charger and they were fine. I have only had one opportunity to use the flash unit. The 580EX II worked with no problems. I simply attached it to the hotshoe on my Canon 40D and placed the plastic diffuser over it and took a time delayed photo of myself. I made no adjustments for the flash either in the camera or on the flash unit. I just put the batteries into the unit and it was ready to go to work. I haven't used the bracket adapter, that offsets the flash, but it seems that it should work just fine. It seems like it mounts to the tripod mount on the camera. And then it looks as though the bracket could then be attached to a tripod if desired. Adorama can keep those battery chargers.

I have used it on my Canon cameras with Norman (2000 and 800) and Novatron (440) power packs and have had no problems. It is great not tripping over wires anymore. My tripping over a "sync" cord and breaking a camera is what made me invest in this item.

(More customer reviews)I just received this battery pack along with the appropriate cable for my Nikon D80 DSLR and and external flash (SB-600). The SB-600 doesn't have a jack for battery packs like the SB-800 does but this battery pack and the cable work beautifully. I was tired of running out of battery power with the 4 AA's that the speedlight holds and having to constantly switch them out. This battery pack lets me keep firing away and the quick recycle time for the flash is an added bonus!
Basically, the battery pack attaches to the bottom of the camera using the tripod mount. It does add some good weight to the camera when attached. The cable runs from the battery pack, to the speedlight to provide power. Yesterday, I shot over 200 pics, all with the flash unit and I had plenty of power and the flash recycles nice and quickly.

Lightweight and Compact Digital Canon Dslr Flash Review

(More customer reviews)I recently upgraded from the Canon S5 IS to the SX 10 IS and bought this Sunpak not for the extra flash range, but simply to take that task from the camera, and quicken / improve the recycle time (and increase battery life). My primary use is for fill flash, and this is mostly outdoors.
The Sunpak is small, pocketable and does the job well! At it's size, I was amazed to find it had been designed to provide bounce flash as well. I've experimented with this indoors and now have a new benefit I was not counting on (or looking for).
I also love the fact that this flash sits nicely atop the SX 10IS (and G10) - having tried a competitor's flash previously, it almost looked as though the tail was wagging the dog. The smaller, shorter profile of this flash makes a perfect package, the balance and esthetics are excellent. I'm spareing technical details here, but will mention the E-TTL II interface has been just as claimed - it WORKS!
If you have an SX 10 IS (or it's big brother with HD Vid & RAW), a G9 or G10 ... or even a Powershot S5 IS, this flash will be worth every penny to you. I was skeptical on third-party E-TTL II compatability, this Sunpak has allayed those concerns. On top of all this, it fits nicely in a small pocket of your camera bag and looks great!

The Nissin Di622 Mark II flash is a well-built flash with very good light output and recycling time. The price is cheap compared to OEM and other 3rd party offering sans China branded units and the wealth of off-camera triggering modes make this one of the most flexible flash system you can buy if you like off-camera lighting.
While Canon and Nikon units will offer more wireless TTL control when used off-camera (such as multi-channel grouping and power adjustments), they do cost twice as much, if not more. You'll have a hard time finding a Nikon/Canon flash in the used market that can match the price of a brand new Nissin Di622 Mark II, not to mention most low/mid-end flashes do not offer sync ports and optical slave triggering as well.
Apart from the nearly-useless AF-assist light, the Nissin Di622 Mark II is an excellent flash unit for first-time flash buyers as it allows you to keep using the flash as your skills improve. When you've moved past using the flash on-camera, the off-camera modes allow this flash to exist in your camera bag until it finally breaks down.
The main point is, the Nissin Di622 Mark II is a good buy because it does what all basic flashes can do (manual power, variable sync triggering options) but still offer modern flexibility such as ignoring pre-flash slave modes and wireless TTL modes.

Bower SFD728C TTL Autofocus Flash for Canon E-TTL II Review

(More customer reviews)Let's face it, photography is an expensive hobby. And while I agree that more money will usually get you higher quality products, for relatively newcomers to the game like me, spending $200 on a flash right out of the gate is a bit much.
I was looking for a well priced but good quality flash, which I found with the Bower SFD728C. It is ETTL compatible with my Canon XTi, which made learning how to use a shoe flash as simple as the onboard flash. The guide number is also relatively high (don't remember the exact number),and I was able to shoot a wedding in a small church with little problem. It also has swivel and pan capabilities which don't seem to be as common in this price bracket, allowing for the all important bounce capabilities.
My only complaint was that the locking ring was not very secure, and occasionally the flash would slip just far enough off the contacts to cause the camera to wig out when trying to fire the flash or a mistimed flash.
Overall however, I found the Bower SFD728C to be an easy to use, inexpensive, yet good quality flash. I'm sure there are some features capabilities that one could get with the Canon brand flashes at 2-3 times the price, but I haven't missed them yet.

Quantum QB2 - External battery pack Review

(More customer reviews)My Quantum Battery came with an older Metz CT4 flash. This was a great deal, because the entire package cost me about $150 on ebay. The great thing about this battery is that it holds its charge. My guess is 3-4 months after fully charging the unit. Yes it does take a little longer to recharge compared to regular rechargeable batteries, but once it is charged you can do an entire wedding without having to worry about it, or recharge. This a 9 volt battery so it is not suitable for some of the newer Digital cameras without a sync protector. It was made to be used with the older Metz flash systems CT5, CT4, CT1 etc. With a sync protector you can use both flash and Battery on any Digital camera. I decided to purchase the old handle-mount flashes, because of the extra power they provide, the broader light spread and the consistency, which to me, outshines TTL in many situations. I like this system so much that I went out and bought another CT4 and extra battery 2 so that I could do on location 2 light set ups. The cons are that the cable that attaches the flash to the battery is too short and I'm not sure if Metz sells any extensions.

I never use a flash without a diffuser. So If you are looking at this you should also take a look at: Gary Fong C3 Cloud Lightsphere II.
The only advantage this diffuser has to the C3 is that it's small and easy to carry.

I bought this flasher today from a local retailer, and have had amazing success with it. I took well over 300 pictures with the same set of disposable batteries and it's still going strong. After 300 or so, the recharge time took a tad longer (1-3 seconds), but all in all, I definitely give this 5 stars. Granted, I am an amateur, but I am enjoying having a mini portrait studio right on top of my Canon XSI Rebel. Buy this. You wont be disappointed.

You have to pay import tax when it goes to your country, though (100 euros in France).
Only disappointment : to operate with my Canon Flash 580 EX II, you still need to put batteries inside it, and in order to be able to flash several times very quickly, these batteries need to be at the maximum power, the Quantum does not work as well if the flash batteries are weak.

(More customer reviews)I've read such good reviews of the hard-to-get YongNuo flash hardware, that I decided to try one on my T2i. Everything works great, and the camera recognizes the flash for all the Speedlite configurations. Very cool. The build quality is surprisingly solid and there is n-o-t-h-i-n-g about this camera that doesn't feel polished (well, the manual is a little sparse).
Because it ships from Hong Kong, I was cautiously hoping it wouldn't take a month to ship and clear customs. I even added a note to my order asking to do anything to expedite the shipping (I have a big trip coming up). I received the most polite and encourage email from "May" of YongNuo explaining that they would ship it as soon as the next units arrived. It shipped in two days, I received the registered HongKong invoice tracking number, and it arrived within two weeks.
If you are thinking about some other comparably priced flash units, I recommend getting some schooling on what a Speedlite-compatible unit can do. [..] is a start, and there is NK Guy's book, [..] which builds on the PhotoNotes article.
Overall, this is an outstanding value and I'll be looking carefully at anything in the YongNuo catalog.

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased the Canon EOS T2i/EOS 550D camera kit and needed a more powerful flash so I ordered the Phoenix P04472 SmartFlash from Amazon.com. It was a great buy. Much cheaper than a Canon flash. It does everything that the Canon flash can do. It has a zoom flash head to match the focal length on the Canon zoom focal lengths, it also has the tilting and rotating zoom head for bouncing the flash from the ceiling or walls and plenty of flash power. The negative aspects of the flash is that it was cheaply made with very loose manufacturing tolerances. But with this aside, it performs exactly as designed. I highly recommend this flash to those who are on a budget and wants to get great flash results.

Canon MT-24EX Macro Twin Lite Flash for Canon Digital SLR Cameras Review

(More customer reviews)After years of manual flash macro work, recently in digital format with extension tubes on the Canon 100mm macro lens, I decided to cast a onsiderable sum of money at this twin light. Where I used to struggle just to get the correct exposure, now I'm able to concentrate on background (no night-looking flash fall-off anymore) and on modeling the light -- including little shiny aphids tended by ants! If you're serious about great macro work -- this is the flash to have.
I was worried about breaking the hot-shoe mount with rough field work, but the 45 degree angle of the mount adds stability. Even so, I bent up an aluminum strap bracket in my shop that surrounds the camera and flash -- a camera "roll bar."
There's a bit of a learning curve -- but when I tried manually setting the aperature (f22 is my lens's "sweet spot") and a shutter speed of 1/200 -- ISO 100 -- all of the exposures were perfect, because the ETTL function "dials in" the foregrand and background appropriately. I've used the same manual settings for just the macro lens, and for many variations of one to three extension tubes.

(More customer reviews)I just bought this external flash for my Canon PowerShot SX10 IS and it works fantastic and is half the price of a Canon Speedlite 430EX II (it can be used on a Nikon, also). My two favorite features - it has slave capabilities and a built-in diffuser and bounce card. I've only had it for a short time, but I already highly recommend this flash for SX10 users looking for a decent flash.
