(More customer reviews)When compared to the soon to come out Photoflex Kit Starflash Gemini 150 w/s LiteDome Kit, this kit seems the way to go. Although the Photoflex does have a 250W modeling lamp while the Elinchrom has a 100W modeling lamp, that is the only leg up Photoflex has. This Elinchrom Kit does 90V to 260V, perfect for world travel, it has 1/10 power adjustments vs. 1/8 for more control, it has a digital display, and the Elinchrom's seem to be really well built. The only downside is that to add Elinchrom only accesories, is a little expensive, but what you get with this kit for the money, either this one or the D-Lite 400 w/s, you can't beat it. Not to mention you can Amazon Prime it, something you can't do with the Photflex.

(More customer reviews)I am a professional photographer, and my studio is set up with Dynalite system. I have packs, heads, and a range of light modifiers. However, there are some cases where I want to have one or two heads far away from the pack and it makes sense to have monolights for those places. So, I bought this light for testing, after a few hours of product research online. Now, after a few weeks of commercial shoots, I'm thinking about buying a few more of these.
I shoot fashion, headshot, glamour and so forth, so fast recycling time is essential. This light's recycle time is not as fast as Dynalite but it's definitely good enough for me, especially because I tend to use this light for places where I don't need much power. I'm using it mostly in 12 to 50Ws output range, such as fill, hair light, and background light. I've not compared this side-by-side, but I think D-Lite 2 and 4 give about the same recycle time if you match the actual output power. Since I don't need more than 200Ws for the role I expect D-Lite 2 to play, D-Lite 2 is a better option. Now, I use all sorts of lighting tricks to make people look good, and often the light is on a boom arm. That means, I strongly prefer light weight heads (hence Dynalite over Profoto). Vast majority of monolights are inconvenient for me because they are heavy. I'd rather work with light heads, moderate counterweights, and fine tune by adjusting the placement. That's my style.
Most other monolights that I've used are too heavy to sit atop boom arms. More than half of the monolights I tried are too slow to recycle. Elinchrom D-Lite 2 is perfect for me, because it goes down to 12.5Ws, very lightweight for what it is, recycle charge is reasonably fast, and the quality of light is very good, with 1/10 stop control.
Now let's go over some of the negatives.
The head is flimsy, especially the bracket that attaches to the light stand stud, and umbrella shaft. Umbrella shaft must be 7mm diameter like other Elinchrom products, but the shaft is held in place by friction only. The sync terminal is 3.5mm phono jack, and not standard H or 6.5mm jack. These are minor inconvenience but livable, especially at such a low price. The bracket is flimsy but if you use it carefully in a studio, and don't set up and tear down often, or take to locations, it's probably ok and lasts long enough.
If you have to compete with available light, you might not like this lite. This flash requires 1/125 or longer exposure with all cameras, even if the camera's x-sync speed is 1/250 sec. This is because this flash fires with a small lag, regardless of the method of triggering the flash. If you are using it in dark studio as a fill or hair light, I think this is okay. But keep this limitation in mind.
The biggest problem is the crappy modeling light. There may be a cost limitation, or heat dissipating problem that precludes standard halogen bulb, but I'd rather have compact fluorescent or some other form of bulbs than this dim bulb of lower color temperature than halogen bulbs (btw compact fluorescent would have problem when you want to control the modeling light according to the flash output, but that's a different story...).
This light does not come with any reflector or modifier whatsoever, just like other Elinchrom heads. You need to buy them separately and attach via Elinchrom's proprietary bayonet system.

(make sure this is the latest model with the added "handle on the front to hold with your left hand - instead of the lens - much more comfortable than the earlier model). Not only great for hand-held shooting at events, parties, etc, but works great on a tripod (get the Quick Release accessory!). I use it when I'm shooting product also, because once I have the camera level (using a spirit level) I can go accurately from landscape to portrait instantly.

I have used it on my Canon cameras with Norman (2000 and 800) and Novatron (440) power packs and have had no problems. It is great not tripping over wires anymore. My tripping over a "sync" cord and breaking a camera is what made me invest in this item.

(More customer reviews)Hi, sorry for any English mistake. I have a Canon Rebel T2i / 550D and i liked this flash trigger. It does what I expected. I could suggest some improvements, like an easier to remove cover. Its really difficult to change the bigger case batteries. Another very good idea could be an extra socket over the transmitter, so we could use 2 flashes, one over the camera and another one remote. Ok, I could use the canon 580ex II flash unit to do this, but its much more expensive for a hobbyist like me. I have a speedlite 430ex II. I am quite sure I can buy 2 (or more) of these flash triggers and use 2 flashes remotely. What this evaluated product gives me is the opportunity to change the light perspective over the scene. It is also not full compatible with the camera/flash set. Its perfectly justifiable, as the product is generic. What happens is that you have to set the flash options manually, but its ok. Probably a specific and full compatible product would cost much more. I am totally satisfied.

until now. I have never understood why the large studio beauty dish
reflectors cost so much. I have used numerous types of diffusers,
bounced the flash of the ceiling etc. and this product is the only
thing I have been happy with for close up indoor shots of people or portraits.
I don't know why it works or how and don't care. I have not used it much
so cannot justify five stars, but I am happy with the few photos I have taken.
I would recommend anyone to give it a try and I guess the could return it
if they are not happy. The only problem is that I am now considering the expensive beauty dish reflectors on my two studio lights. It seems to me that anyone that
is serious about flash photography of people needs to take a look at beauty dishes.

The Vivitar 2800 automatic electronic flash has a four-position head that gives your pictures soft, even lighting. Elinchrom EL 19360 Skyport Universal Trigger Set Review

(More customer reviews)I went back and forth for a long time prior to choosing Skyports over PocketWizards. The primary reason - cost (half the cost to be precise). I typically purchase top-of-the-line products for my bread-and-butter gear (which would mean I should purchase the PocketWizards), but for most users in most scenarios, the Skyports are just as good, if not better (check out specs between the two) than the PocketWizards. The PocketWizards can trigger lights up to 1500 feet, but let's be realistic. How many of you have ever needed to trigger anything that far (I'm sure some of you have, but it's so rare that it hardly can be considered a true value add for the average user). Also, the Skyports are significantly smaller and doesn't get in the way like PocketWizards, and as far as general build quality is concerned, both brands feel somewhat cheap. I feel like radio triggers are in general overpriced for the technology that they utilize, so why not get the less overpriced "premium" brand.
BUT, if you are more interested in fashionable photography products or if you are a professional who really needs to stretch the limits of a trigger, go for the PockeWizards. They are the industry standard. Otherwise, save your money and spend it on more important things.
Also, like others have noted, the reason the first poster coulnd't sync at anything above 1/250th of a second is because his camera's top sync speed was probably 1/250th of a second (eg. my D200's top sync speed is 1/250th of a second).

Elinchrom EL 19357 Skyport Universal Speed Flash Trigger Set (Replaces EL 19360) (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)This new system is wonderful and even better than its predecessor. I never used the PWs before but I can tell you that this product gets the job done. I ran a few test: the first one I placed the flash in my backyard and fired from my bedroom, doors closed, with no problem. The second test: still outdoor i probably went about 350-400 feet down the street, the flash fired. I also tried to fire the flash from behind a fence at about 300 feet and It worked!. The range on these things is pretty powerful. Both transmitter and receiver are lightweight and well made. The antenna is a little flimsy but they do come with their own case, so they will not get damaged. Buttons are easily accessible except for the channel switches. They are really tiny and you might need a pin to move them (I actually manage to do it with my fingernails). Inside the box you will find receiver, transmitter and various sync chords. Please note that if you are planning to put them to work right away (with your SB-900 or SB-600), you will need an extra PC-sync to mini-jack cable, and for the sb-600 a hotshoe adapter. The other positive thing is that the AC adapter comes with 3 different sockets....the american, the european, and I believe the last one is for the UK. If you travel a lot, like I do, this is a nice add-on. Battery included as well for the transmitter (the receiver has a rechargeable battery in it).

(More customer reviews)I initially got this to use as an off-camera flash to hang as a hairlight off a boom. It has an optical flash trigger but I was going to rig it with a Cyber Sync receiver, and have it fire at the same time with two Alien Bees. When I received the package, I had expected a very cheap build and some really inferior material. In fact, I was a bit disturbed when I heard rattling from within the unit but it turned out to be the silica packet in the battery compartment. I never expected it to use as an on-camera flash as I never dreamed of replacing my 430EX II with it, but since I had nothing better to do, I decided to try it out with my T2i. Well, even more of a surprise is that it actually works quite well with my T2i. The camera immediately recognizes it and sets the max sync speed, I can even control exposure compensation from within the camera. My opinion is that the flash is somewhat weaker than the 430EX but it illuminates everything that is needed. I really liked the built in diffuser panel which actually gives the shot a nicer (more realistic) color/white balance. I've always just used any on-camera flash as a bounce flash indoors and this YN-467 certainly performs the same function as my 430EX. As for longevity and quality, I've only used it for two days and it readily recycles within 1-2 secs on rechargeable batteries.
I'm looking forward to use it as a hairlight, and unless it breaks down with such a light workload on 1/2 power, I think this unit deserves 5 stars!
BTW, I was apprehensive on how the hot shoe would mount on the camera, but the tightener and the metal shoe definitely can latch onto the T2i. No fears there.

(More customer reviews)I've been using the CTR-301P radio triggers for about a year now and absolutely love them. If you're trying to take your Speedlight flash off the camera, it's one of the most convenient methods (ETTL cables are limited in length and quite pricey, PC Sync cables are also limited in length and a bit of a hassle to manage), the CTR-301P allows you to trigger your speedlights remotely without any cables. An important thing to note, for anyone unaware, is that when using the wireless sync on these you will not have ETTL ("Automatic") flash control - you'll need to manually set the power levels on all of your flashes. Newer (and much more expensive) radio triggers such as the PocketWizard MiniTT1 Radio Transmitter for Canon TTL Flashes and Digital SLR Cameras will carry the ETTL signal to your remote (ettl compatible) flashes, but those cost about 10x the price per receiver.
The CTR-301Ps have 2 modes: Wireless and Light. Wireless lets you put the receiver on your cameras hotshoe and trigger the flash wirelessly as the shutter is pressed. Light allows you to use another light source (on camera flash, for instance) to trigger the remote flash. An important note about the "Light" mode is that ETTL signals can prematurely set off the remote flash (ETTL uses a series of flash pulses really quickly which can throw it off). If using light mode, make sure the on-camera-flash is set to manual to prevent the ETTL flashes.
If using a speedlight, slide the hotshoe connector into the top of the receiver. If using studio-strobes, the package comes with a PC-Sync cable that connects from the receiver to your strobe.
Underneath the receiver and transmitter are 2 switches - these allow you to change the "channel" that the wireless signal uses. This is mainly useful if 2 people are using the same triggers, to prevent one person from setting yours off (or vice versa). Different combinations of these switches allow for 4 possible channels.
Range from the 301Ps is nice - I've never gone more than 20 feet, but they've always triggered for me. They're supposed to go 30 Meters (about 90 feet), but I haven't tried this -- obstacles in the way (such as walls) will also shorten the reach.
The bottom of the Receiver has a female tripod-threading. This allows you to easily attach it to a lightstand or tripod and mount it almost anywhere.
Unfortunately, the CTR-301P uses odd batteries. No AA or AAA here, you'll need to find CR2 batteries. I found some cheap at a "going out of business sale", but otherwise they can be a bit costly and you'll probably want spaces so you're never out shooting and the batteries die on you. I can say that the battery life is very good on these - just make sure to turn the receiver from Light or Wireless to "Off" when done.
On top of the transmitter is a test button - press this and it will send a signal out to all receivers on that channel and set the flashes off.
That's about it for these receivers - they're simple, to the point, and do a great job. There are higher-end ones out there - if you need more reliability/reach (and as a bonus, the ability to wirelessly release your cameras shutter), take a look at the Yongnuo RF-602 system. It costs a bit more, but is a newer/more advanced technology. If you want to go the next step, that would be the Pocket Wizards, but at close to 200 dollars a piece (per transmitter/receiver) its a VERY expensive system.
The CTR-301Ps do a great job if you just need a quick and easy way to get your flash off the camera and to a remote location. I highly recommend these!

When you are working with Flashpoint monolights, it is about as simple to set up as you can imagine. Simply plug the AC plug on the unit into the back of the flash, the 1/4" plug into the flash trigger, plug the power cord into the bottom of the unit, mount the transmitter on your hot shoe and you are shooting wirelessly! No more dragging PC cables around to trip over, no more wondering if your PC plugs are making a good enough contact to fire... just point and shoot.
I have not had an assignment yet where I was out of range... I have used it at weddings (pre-light the ceremony and fire wirelessly from anywhere you can see the bride and groom), product shots, portraits and even outdoors with power inverters running the lights.
My only complaint was that it did not work with the economy lights that Flashpoint sells. They have a built in AC cord and it can't plug directly into the flash unit. I was able to build an adapter that I velcro onto the light stand that lets me use it with the smaller lights, however. Flashpoint did provide the stepdown adapter for the 1/8" flash sync plug used on the smaller lights as part of the remote control kit.
Great unit. I plan to buy a couple more as back up units.

Designed to simultaneously trigger monolights or strobes wirelessly. There are four channels so each channel can avoid interference from others working the same job. It will also keep others at the event from firing your lights with their point and shoot cameras. Because of its low power consumption the transmitter can be fired 20,000 times on a single 3 volt, #BYUL23A battery.
