(More customer reviews)Hi, sorry for any English mistake. I have a Canon Rebel T2i / 550D and i liked this flash trigger. It does what I expected. I could suggest some improvements, like an easier to remove cover. Its really difficult to change the bigger case batteries. Another very good idea could be an extra socket over the transmitter, so we could use 2 flashes, one over the camera and another one remote. Ok, I could use the canon 580ex II flash unit to do this, but its much more expensive for a hobbyist like me. I have a speedlite 430ex II. I am quite sure I can buy 2 (or more) of these flash triggers and use 2 flashes remotely. What this evaluated product gives me is the opportunity to change the light perspective over the scene. It is also not full compatible with the camera/flash set. Its perfectly justifiable, as the product is generic. What happens is that you have to set the flash options manually, but its ok. Probably a specific and full compatible product would cost much more. I am totally satisfied.

(More customer reviews)If what your looking for is rear curtain sync, you don't need all mulimax transceivers. However if you are looking to have separate zones of flashes you do need to have the mulitmax, or equivalent 32 channel receiver. The zone function only works on channels 17-32, and the plus only has channels 1-4.
With that in mind this is the definition of reliability, and for many applications just having the extra channels will be worth the extra hundred bucks. For example at major sporting events where every photographer seems to be using those first four channels you will still be able to have your flash go off only when you want it too.
Using zones has some extra uses too. I use it in my studio to set up 3 completely different lighting scenes (background white, background black, and third with some light spill onto the background) set my camera to bracket (3) and then with each shot get 3 completely different pictures. Saves me lots of time and I don't have to tell the model "that looked great, now try to do exactly the same thing after I spend 5 minutes fiddling with the lights...."
Now if you have no idea what I am talking about, then maybe this isn't the device for you. And that is not a problem! But there is no reason to pay this money if you are not sure that you are going to use its features.

(More customer reviews)Amazon was selling the K-r kit with 18-55 and 55-300 lenses for a really good price around Thanksgiving 2010. I had been wanting to upgrade from my k200d for sometime and jumped at the opportunity. 3 weeks with the camera have given me a good perspective on the pros/cons of this upgrade.
My primary motivation for upgrading was the rave reviews about low-light/high-iso performance of the K-r (and K-x). I chose the K-r over the K-x because the high fps and focus point in viewfinder features were well worth the minor difference in price. Here are the pros (+) and cons (-):
+ high ISO performance is excellent. I am shooting ISO1600 indoors all the time. Processed images have no noise at this setting. The performance is comparable (or better) than the k200d at ISO400
+ auto-focus is really fast as promised
+ burst shooting is really fast.
+ camera button controls are much better than k200d (direct iso/flash etc. buttons)
+ it's a much lighter camera (but that's a negative as well)
+ automatic white balance without flash is way better than the k200d (the latter had very warm overtones in tungsten for example - the K-r produces perfectly natural white balance for common indoor and outdoor lighting situations)
+ the supplied 55-300 kit lens is excellent. compared to my current 70-300 Tamron lens - it's much sharper on the long end.
+ live view is cool and allows shooting holding the camera at all sorts of angles. the screen is bright enough to be visible from just about any angle.
- focusing is fast but not as accurate. in particular my camera was front focusing and i found this to be a commonly reported problem on the web. i almost considered returning my camera before reading about the focus fine adjustment option. setting the camera for the maximum front-focus adjustment got rid of the problem for the most part (although it still doesn't seem perfect). not all lenses suffer equally badly - unfortunately my favorite lens (Tamron 28-75 f2.8) does.
- auto white balance with flash feels weird (it seems that it over-compensates for flash)
(updated: i found that (for my home shots) changing the white balance to 'warm white flourescent' in the raw editor (silkypix) largely fixed the issue).
- the supplied software is absolutely terrible. i process RAW images on the PC and the old software was simple but usable. The new one is a labyrinth of features - except the ones u really need (like not resetting the adjustment settings on every new image). Morever it crashes (i cannot even start it on one of my pcs)
- the new 18-55 lens feels cheap to the one that was supplied with previous models (plastic mount and no hood). i am planning to dispose off the new one and hang on to the old one.
- no weather sealing and body doesn't feel as substantial. the k200d used to sell at the same price point but had a magnesium alloy body and was weather sealed. the K-r is neither. The body is not as substantial to hold - in particular the battery compartment is smaller and the hand grip around the compartment doesn't feel as secure as before.
- doesn't take AA batteries by default. this is really lame - i will have to spend extra money to buy a special adapter. rechargable AA batteries are much better than proprietary ones.
- movie mode is pretty much useless because of lack of auto-focus. almost all DSLRs are like this - so it's not a ding against K-r - just dont buy it for taking videos. (Updated: i have found the video to be very jittery even slow moving everyday scenes. it's not clear why that is the case since 24fps is supposedly good enough)
- (Updated) one additional annoyance is that choosing the fully automatic 'A' mode does not reset all the customized settings - specifically the focus point and AF mode. This means i can't simply set the camera to 'A' mode and hand it off to a P&S photographer (since i always leave the camera at center point focus). That's really painful.
there are a lot of new image processing features in the K-r (HDR, shadow lighting, filters etc.) - but these can all be done in software and are not so valuable for me (may be for other users).
if i was shooting daylight/outdoors in good light - the K-r is actually a downgrade from the k200d. however - the gain in low light conditions are exemplary and outweigh the negatives (of which there are many). So it's a keeper for me. Considering that i would give a five star to the k200d - this is at least a four star.
For people looking to buy Pentax for the first time - one word of caution. Pentax seems to be falling further and further behind in the choice of lenses available on their platform. For example the Tamron 18-270 lens is still not available and the 18-250 lens has been taken off the market. There's no cheap 50mm prime lens available (the cheapest one is now $350). It's a rather sorry state of affairs and if i was not already invested in some Pentax mount lenses i would have definitely taken a much closer look at the Nikon D5000 that seems really close to the K-r in price/capabilities. At the same time - the supplied kit lenses are very good and if you don't plan to buy a lot of lenses - the Pentax is an excellent value (always more functionality and nicer build per $ than Canon/Nikon).

Brains, meet beauty. The Pentax K-r has it all. On the brain side, it's a powerful DSLR with advanced features like 12.4 Megapixels, HD video, a 2.7-inch LCD display and custom modes and functions.On the beauty side, taking photos has never looked this good. There's basic black of course. But the K-r also comes in classy white and PENTAX red, with even more body colors to come. The PENTAX K-r competes with higher-end DSLRs and looks great doing it. Promote Systems Promote Control, Remote Control for Digital SLR Cameras Review

(More customer reviews)From my own personal researching efforts, I think this is the only option Canon shooters have for programming Canon cameras to shoot greater than three exposures. The Promote does the job. I can configure the remote to fire off 20+ exposures on my Canon 5D Mark II. This is a huge plus for those wanting to do HDR photography. Not having to touch the camera (potential for moving the camera) during multiple exposures is a wonderful thing.
As for the actual remote, I expected a higher build quality for a $300 remote. The remote has an extreme plastic-y feeling to it and some might suggest that it has a fake knock-off feel to it. However, let me repeat myself, this camera does do what it claims to do. Also, given my propensity to over pack my camera gear and comparing it to the Canon TC-80N3, I found the Promote remote to be unnecessarily large. The Canon TC-80N3 provides a fair amount of functionality at 1/3 the size. But the Canon TC-80N3 doesn't do what the Promote can. And I understand and recognize that.
If you shoot a Canon 5D Mark II, you have to attach two separate wires/cords from the camera to the remote to get full functionality. This is a work flow killer in my opinion. Shooting in portrait mode with a L bracket on a ballhead does provide some challenges when you have to budget for two cords.
Also, if any of your "bracketed" exposures go beyond 30 seconds, there are additional programing steps involved. The shooter needs to switch to a "bulb" exposure. And you need to upgrade the firmware to enable 30+ seconds exposures.
And to conclude, the following comment is based on my experiences on shooting raw files with the Promote. To take 7+ shots with progressively long shutter times, a lot of the camera custom features (i.e. noise reduction) may need to be adjusted or turned off. If the camera needs to take more than a few moments to process the file (raw files from a 5DII are pretty darn big 25mg+), the Promote errors out. The remote, from what I can tell, doesn't adjust for the camera's need to process the image. The remote follows a strict timing sequence. If the camera needs more than what the Promote remote feels is a typical/adequate processing time, the bracketing sequence stops.
All these things are necessarily deal killers but I thought cyberspace would like to know. It took me a bit of time to figure all of this out. If you should buy one, please don't buy this product the day before a major shooting trip. These is a significant learning curve involved with this product. Oh, and the instruction manual is pretty sparse.

I have purchased the Canon WL-DC100 more times than I can count as it seems to just stop working after a short period. The Satechi was about half as expensive and really does the job I want. (More customer reviews)I tested this on my D200 and it works as described. Half a press and it focuses and the full press releases the shutter. The bulb function works well too. Some reviewers noted that it was difficult to line up the 10 pin connector to the camera. Careful inspection of the camera receiver and the shutter release connector and you will notice three slots in the camera receiver that line up with three plastic prongs in the connector. The cord leaving from the connector on the shutter release on the unit I received lines up with the white dot/line on the D200 receiver/connector. Not sure if this is a design feature or not, but it will help me line up the 10 pin connector.
All in all, I feel like this was a good buy for the money if it lasts.

What they fail to mention in the online description of the item is the auxiliary mini plug included on the remote, thankfully I was able to see it in the photograph of the product. This is one of the most powerful features of this cable remote. This allows another switch to be plugged into the remote unit to trigger the camera, so anyone familiar with basic electronics can easily rig up their own extention cable of any length or build a little relay timer circuit and do timelapse photography. Simple, affordable, and functional best describes this product.

(More customer reviews)I bought this to replace my old one that I actually tore apart by tripping over it in the dark. I use it on a Nikon N90s that I have had for years. It is especially useful for macro work and bulb photography. I like night shooting and many shots I take are +45 seconds. Well without a tripod and remote release, I'm not sure I could hold still for that long while pressing the shutter release. In macro, it helps get rid of the motion blur from camera shake while shooting something 6 inches from the lens. For the price, you cannot go wrong.

(More customer reviews)I decided to save some money on Nikon accessories and I purchased this Satechi remote shutter as a result. The unit has a two-stage button just like the exposure button on the camera. It has a nice tactile feel so you can't accidentally hit the exposure if all you want to do is focus. The down side is that the connector has no threaded ring. It is held on by a compression fit. It is quite snug, so it will not easily fall off if the camera is moved around. My D300 has a white alignment dot next to the connector but the Satechi connector does not. So I made a mark on the connector with a white permanent ink marker. Works great! Nice investment if you want to save money.

Just to test the range, I set up my camera in my living room and triggered it 10 times from inside my detached garage about 120' away. It fired 10 for 10. It has a button on the receiver, so it can be used as a wired cable release and it works in bulb mode both wired and wirelessly. It comes with three different ends to fit a variety of Nikon cameras, so there's no need to worry about getting the correct one for your model. There is no channel adjustment, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. I don't know if that will be a problem or not.
I have a Nikon IR remote for my D80, but the range on it stinks and you can only use it from front-left of the camera. If, you're thinking of an IR remote, you should consider this instead.

Nikon MC 20 - Remote control - cable Review

(More customer reviews)I have yet to use the new Nikon MC-36 10-pin Camera Remote, but I have used the more simple MC-30 10-pin Camera Remote, both of which are listed as compatible with the new Nikon D200 Digital SLR (a departure from the strictly cable release D100 - for better and worse).
The MC-30 is simple and straight forward to use - it is essentially an electrical version of a cable release. I did find it to stick occasionally, but I got used to its feel and minimized it.
The MC-36 is the electronic remote with control capabilities such as timed Bulb shots. VERY HANDY!
Here's the REAL TIP of this review: with both the MC-30 and MC-36 out of stock everywhere, what does a new D200 owner have to do to get cable release? Well, I am using my MC-20 from my F100! I don't know if the MC-36 has more bells and whistles or some fancy digital specific functions, but I have tested my MC-20 and everything works as expected! I did some timed shots in Bulb with no problems.
Though the MC-20 has been discontinued, it is still available used through eBay or possibly your local camera shop. And, probably at a better overall bargain than the MC-30 or MC-36 new (especially with some vendors who do have them charging 50-100% above retail!).

(More customer reviews)I've had the product for about two weeks and have been doing a lot of HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography. Which usually requires 3 - 7 images on tripod of the same scene with different exposures for merging into the final image. The SMDV has work flawlessly so far. Sometimes feels a little soft, but has worked every time.
It fits snug on the camera, but I'm glad it also has the locking ring. I would recommend it.

(More customer reviews)I ordered one of these sets to drive my Norman monolight, and it worked flawlessly, so I decided I wanted another receiver. The receiver, though, costs nearly as much as the kit, so I just bought another kit. Great deal, works in my studio, and works at least 60 feet away. I set up the other receiver on the same channel and plugged the other receiver into another light, and sync is perfect. I'm not sure what else you could want from remote triggers like this. Gave it four stars because five should be reserved for stuff that goes above and beyond, while this delivers exactly what you expect at a very good price.
