(More customer reviews)I decided to save some money on Nikon accessories and I purchased this Satechi remote shutter as a result. The unit has a two-stage button just like the exposure button on the camera. It has a nice tactile feel so you can't accidentally hit the exposure if all you want to do is focus. The down side is that the connector has no threaded ring. It is held on by a compression fit. It is quite snug, so it will not easily fall off if the camera is moved around. My D300 has a white alignment dot next to the connector but the Satechi connector does not. So I made a mark on the connector with a white permanent ink marker. Works great! Nice investment if you want to save money.

(More customer reviews)I have yet to use the new Nikon MC-36 10-pin Camera Remote, but I have used the more simple MC-30 10-pin Camera Remote, both of which are listed as compatible with the new Nikon D200 Digital SLR (a departure from the strictly cable release D100 - for better and worse).
The MC-30 is simple and straight forward to use - it is essentially an electrical version of a cable release. I did find it to stick occasionally, but I got used to its feel and minimized it.
The MC-36 is the electronic remote with control capabilities such as timed Bulb shots. VERY HANDY!
Here's the REAL TIP of this review: with both the MC-30 and MC-36 out of stock everywhere, what does a new D200 owner have to do to get cable release? Well, I am using my MC-20 from my F100! I don't know if the MC-36 has more bells and whistles or some fancy digital specific functions, but I have tested my MC-20 and everything works as expected! I did some timed shots in Bulb with no problems.
Though the MC-20 has been discontinued, it is still available used through eBay or possibly your local camera shop. And, probably at a better overall bargain than the MC-30 or MC-36 new (especially with some vendors who do have them charging 50-100% above retail!).

(More customer reviews)Well, like I said it does what it is supposed to do, and at a savings of over $160.00 over Nikon's ML 3, I am not complaining. The only things to keep in mind. This requires 2 AAA batteries for the remote and a 6V for the receiver. Also, for the life of me, I can not get the receiver to stay tight in the hot shoe, but whatever. It fires from all directions, but the distance is limited to about 25-30 feet. For most people I sure that is enough. I needed if for my HDR work-flow and it works perfectly for that.
When it comes down to it, it is less than 1/4 the price of Nikon's and does everything it is supposed to. No brainer in my opinion.

(More customer reviews)This is the exact model of remote you can find for the Nikon D300 on Nikon's own site (and here on Amazon >> NIKON MC-36 Multi-Function Remote Cord ( 33.5 inches )). The only thing it is lacking is a Nikon logo emblazoned across it, which apparently makes about a $100 difference in pricing.
Why pay more?
It plugs in to your 10-pin adapter and can be screwed into place so it doesn't pop out on you, too. Works wonderfully and I look forward to really putting it through the motions. Very sturdy remote (unlike the wireless for the same price which looked as though it might fall apart in the mail!)
PLEASE NOTE: They appear to have changed the body style of this product (writing this as of November 2009). The one I bought had a bit more substance (it was longer). I haven't used the model currently advertised, so I couldn't answer whether the compacting of the remote would make it harder to keep a handle on.

(More customer reviews)As with Nikon's MC-DC1, this just plugs right in and functions just like the regular shutter button (push part way down and the camera focuses, all the way and the shutter fires, and if the shutter is set to bulb it stays open until you let up. The cable release has a little slide thing that you can use to hold the button down for longer esposures. The MC-DC1 is only about 3 feet long. Opteka makes a 3 foot one, also, but this one is 10 feet, which is sometimes handy.
In any event, it seems to function perfectly (with my D80) and it is very reasonably priced.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this because I lost my Nikon wireless remote release and needed a replacement for tripod work. The Nikon product is bulkier and more expensive. The bulk means I won't leave it attached (which is how I lost it). This product is smaller so the camera dongle can be left attached, though it is not that robust, nor did it screw into the camera recepticle securely. However, it does work as advertised, being a little more sensitive to positioning between the remote release and the camera dongle than the Nikon. Both the remote and the dongle require different specialized batteries, making me concerned about losing them and finding replacements in the field. However, the kit includes a small cable which can connect the remote and the dongle and allow operation without battery power. I wish their engineers had designed the dongle to use camera power for operation like the Nikon device.
Pros:
Less expensive than Nikon product
Smaller than Nikon product
Can leave receiver attached to camera relatively unobtrusively
Can operate using connector cable in event of battery failure
Cons:
Less robust than Nikon product
Requires 2 different types of small, non-standard batteries

(More customer reviews)I used this remote as soon as I got it just to experiment with it in my nikon D90 a bit and figure it out. Seemed to work fine. Pulled the remote out and put everything away. Later I picked up the camera and noticed that there was a metal plug sticking out of the camera. After looking it over and comparing the plug to another remote that I have that I know works, I noticed that the piece of metal was off this remote's plug. I would not recommend this to anybody. Why would you go out and buy a nice camera just to skimp on the accessories? The camera is fine but remote now has a plug that doesn't work. I'm going to be going back to amazon and try and get my money back.

Nothing exciting, just a utilitarian product that does its job (at a very reasonable cost). (More customer reviews)I am using this item to take pictures using my Nikon D80 and a tripod. This "wired" remote is soooo much easier than using the Nikon wireless remote (which I also own), because it is always "on" as long as it is plugged into the camera. The wireless remote must be re-activated every time you turn the blasted camera back on, which is a pain in the hindquarters. If you are looking for a way to trip your shutter without jiggling the tripod, this is the ticket. Another advantage over the wireless is that for long time exposures while on the "bulb" shutter setting, you can lock the shutter into place without holding down the button manually - something you can't do using the wireless. This also of course has the auto-focus half pressed capability just as any other shutter would have on an autofocus camera. I'm extremely pleased.

(More customer reviews)Except for the a little bit high price and shipment fees (which is 30% of its price, btw), this is a very useful accessory for Nikon D70s or other model it can apply on.
For me, this cable is extremely useful when I needed long time exposure in Manual B(ulb) mode (over 30 sec)) for city night views or astronomical shootings. It's also useful when I was waiting acrobats' "only moment": after I got everything setup and made sure they are right on the focus and things are in the depth of field, I just sit and waited and pressed. It provides half-way-down releasing press, but the response is not as quick as the body button so it is necessary to count the lag into your own capture.
The plastic is a little bit "plastic"-easy to deform and leaving scratches on the surface and the cable is delicate too (I accedintally clamped it on my tripod's insert plate and almost peel out the cable coating). But since this is a genuine Nikon accessory, I am confident in its quality.
If you need night photography or leisure waiting capture as I do, this would be a necessity. If you just need something to reduce vibration, use timing shooting mode or the infrared remote control, they are better because the cable will easily get into your way and cause accidents. And its length(1 meter/ 3 feet) is not long enough for you to leave the camera, and not short enough (like 60 cm / 2 feet) to get out of the way. Still, for me, it's worth the money.
PS. It take quite a bit of force to plug it into the camera (and out), and it suggests the camera should be off when I do that, which I often forgot.
