(More customer reviews)Nikon COOLPIX S510 8 Megapixel Digital Camera - SilverI'm a digital portrait photographer, and I have a DSLR and alot of equipment that I lug around whenever I'm on a shoot. My digital SLR is a workhorse... however, it's heavy and it's an expensive camera (not to mention the lenses that I work with), and it's just not practical or logical to carry it around when I'm not doing a formal shoot with a client.
So, I looked into getting a small, compact, and cheap (money-wise) point-and-shoot camera that I could slip into my pocket or my purse for everyday moments, that I could whip out at any second and start taking pictures.
I had a Canon SD800 IS for awhile... and while it was an okay camera, it tended to blow out the highlights more often than not... so I searched again... and knowing that Nikon tends to be a bit more conservative with highlights, I came across this little camera, the s510.
I didn't need a high-end point-and-shoot. I already have my DSLR, and high end compacts tend to be larger than a pocket... and I wanted something cheap, around $150 or so, and this fit the ticket.
The image quality is good, if you're not expecting gallery quality photos, but it's still great for prints up to 8x10, at least... it's great for snapshots of friends, family, kids, pets.... it's an everyday camera. The video quality is something I am impressed with, taking decent sized videos that look great, especially in the right lighting conditions... but the audio is so-so, so if you're looking for a camera that'll take clear sound files, look elsewhere.
It is definitely for people with smaller hands... if you have bigger, bulky hands, then you'll find the small buttons annoying, especially the zoom. I'm a young female with average hands, and I don't have a problem with it, but my boyfriend, who has much larger hands, can't stand it.
Overall, it's a fantastic camera if you're not expecting miraculous pictures all the time, and if you're just looking for a small (and it is indeed a very, VERY small camera) that you can store in your pocket or purse.

(More customer reviews)I used the JC-36 GPS receiver on my Nikon D-300 camera for about 4 hours on a small airplane, once the GPS had a signal lock it didn't loose the signal despite being inside the airplane and despite maneuvering. It also did not drain the camera's main battery very much at all - as some external GPS receivers will do.
The only other thing that I could wish for is a compass that shows the direction of the picture.
My only slight criticism is that the GPS fits on the flash hot shoe but does not lock in and a couple of times it was bumped out.

(More customer reviews)I used this remote as soon as I got it just to experiment with it in my nikon D90 a bit and figure it out. Seemed to work fine. Pulled the remote out and put everything away. Later I picked up the camera and noticed that there was a metal plug sticking out of the camera. After looking it over and comparing the plug to another remote that I have that I know works, I noticed that the piece of metal was off this remote's plug. I would not recommend this to anybody. Why would you go out and buy a nice camera just to skimp on the accessories? The camera is fine but remote now has a plug that doesn't work. I'm going to be going back to amazon and try and get my money back.

(More customer reviews)I bought this product to act as an intervalometer for my Nikon D90 for time-lapse photography. There aren't many products currently that can do this for the D90, as a result of Nikon changing the remote cable connector. You can do time-lapse with Nikon's camera control software, but you'd also need to lug around a laptop and pay $170 for that minimalistic software. The Satechi product was the cheapest remote timer / intervalometer I could find, and its functions seemed to fit what I wanted so I bought it. Overall I'm very satisfied.
Functions
All timing functions work great. When used in full manual with the camera, the timer control can set the exposure time as well. The controls are pretty simple - one look at the user's manual and you'll know how to use the timer without needing to reference it again. If using any other modes on the camera (P, S, A), the remote simply acts as a remote timer / intervalometer. It's smart enough to pre-focus during count-down, prior to triggering the shutter - so for example, if you want to take 1 shot every 5 seconds, the timer will tell the camera to perform autofocus about 2 seconds prior to actually triggering the shutter. One of my initial concerns was that the documentation listed number of exposures from 1 - 399. This is the pre programmed number limitation, however you can also set it to `--` which essentially means keep taking pictures forever. This is the mode I especially wanted since I plan to take time-lapse photos over very long periods of time.
Build Quality
This is the only reason I didn't give this product 5 stars. The build is pretty cheap plastic, the battery cover is a little flimsy, but it's essentially what I expected for buying the absolute cheapest intervalometer I could find. It's very light, so I don't think if I dropped it, it would break. But if crunched in a bag/luggage I could see the screen breaking. It does have an LED light which I thought was really nice to have, since I've been in many low light situations where this is needed.
Connections
This remote plugs into the `GPS' port on the D90. Because of the connector Nikon chose for this port, it's not inherently obvious which way you plug in the cable. This product's cable uses a hard plastic connector, not a metal housing. It is foreseeable that you could force the connector in the wrong way which could possibly damage the pins on the camera. However, I think this is more of an issue of the connector Nikon chose and not so much a cheap connector on the part of Satechi.
If you want to do time-lapse photos, or need a basic remote-trigger timer for your D90 - this is your product. I've uploaded some picture for size comparison reasons - look at the picture next to the can of soda.

Satechi LCD Timer Vertical Battery Grip for Nikon D80 and D90 with Remote Control Review

(More customer reviews)I was leery about ordering this grip as to what the other person said that you needed Canon batteries for this grip to work. I went to the Satechi site and checked it out and Satechi stated it was made for the Nikon D80 and you can use one or two Nikon D80 batteries (En-EL3e) made for it. So I ordered it and I am extremely happy I did.
It is very light weight compared to other grips, giving you the feeling of being cheap. It is not. It is solidly made. It holds one/two Nikon EN-EL3e lithium batteries (approx. 5000 shots) as well on 6 AA batteries (alkaline, NiMH, lithium or nickel-manganese)(approx. 480shots). It is made to shoot in large quantities or in low temperatures. It is equipped with a vertical-grip shutter button that has the feel of my Nikon D80 and operates the same way. It also has an AE Lock/FE lock button, main and sub-command dials to enable shooting in the same fashion as a horizontal grip of the D80. It also has the functions of exposure control: long exposure, long intermiten exposure time setting, etc. As well as an infrared receipt function. That's right, it comes with a remote similar to the Nikon remote EN-L3 but works at a greater distance. Note: The battery grip is not waterproof. So do not take a bath with it.
The battery compartment has a twist knob/dial that is turned slightly to the right to pop open the cover to add/change batteries etc., and locks quickly without having to remove grip from camera. Just make sure to turn the turn power off to camera before adding/exchanging the batteries. Comes with a AA batteries adaptor that can remain stored in the grip when not being used with batteries.
The grip has an LCD screen/monitor for showing the professional functions of the grip. Shows the calendar, date and time continuously. Does not drain the batteries as it runs on separate battery. It has Setting (Set) button, High Adjust button, Low Adjust button, Start/Pause Button, LCD Background Light Button, Grip On/Off switch, etc. Has a switch to allow you to use remote, and also to take time-lapse photography, shutter released time and set shoot number(s). You can shoot under bulb mode(B). That's right, all this on this grip. Has also a stop watch capabilities function too and you set the grip to shoot up 99 hours later after being set.
Found that the following usages the of the grip reduces the number of images that can be recorded: 1. Frequent usage of LCD monitor. 2. Holding the shutter button halfway down for too long a time. 3. Shooting using only AF mode.
I have nothing but good things to say about this grip. This is a ten star unit and I highly recommend it for Nikon D80 users. It does not add an excess amount of weight and looks like the camera came with it. Others who have seen my unit have asked me how much my Nikon D3 cost me. I smile and tell them this is a Nikon D80 with a Satechi grip. Love to see there mouths drop. Git-it. The price is right and the functions are fantastic. You will have to read the instruction pamphlet as there are many things this unit does/functions. Satechi did a great job. I highly recommend it's site ( [...])to check other remotes etc available for the Nikon D80 that can be ordered through [...]. I will stop as I do not know what else to say, it is the best buy of accessory for the Nikon D80 I got. It is now a permanent attachment to my D80.
