USB Cable UC-E5 Review

USB Cable UC-E5

I purchased this USB cable to replace the lost cable from my Nikon D70s digital SLR camera. This cable seems to be of excellent quality. The protective sheath covering the internal wires is made out of a pliable, rubber-like substance, not stiff and plastic-like, allowing the cable to hang from one device to the other, without coiling-up. Both ends of the cable are also well-made. Best of all, the cable works as intended. A great cable at an incredible price! How can they sell them for so little? (Maybe I should have purchased two while I was at it).

I use this lens primarily for any landscape shots - and some portrait shots where I'm doing more than headshots (I have a much better 50mm for that).
Granted with the magnification for my D70 because it is digital, this is not THE ideal wide-angle lens. The best you get is around 26mm. If you need a wider angle than that and are shotting with a similar Nikon digital SLR, this is not for you....
Otherwise: Coupled with a 77mm circular polarizer, this is an exceptionally sharp lens. While there is a lot of glass area, and you have more chances for glare, it does also come with a hood. I'd also suggest you only use this lens if you have a shoe mount flash - otherwise this lens is so big that it will create shadows with the built-in flash.
Also do consider that this lens is bulky (wide). Be sure you have enough room in your camera bag.
The price for this item is very low considering the use you will get out of it. If I were to lose this lens for one reason or another, I would immediately replace it with the same lens.

Except for the a little bit high price and shipment fees (which is 30% of its price, btw), this is a very useful accessory for Nikon D70s or other model it can apply on.
For me, this cable is extremely useful when I needed long time exposure in Manual B(ulb) mode (over 30 sec)) for city night views or astronomical shootings. It's also useful when I was waiting acrobats' "only moment": after I got everything setup and made sure they are right on the focus and things are in the depth of field, I just sit and waited and pressed. It provides half-way-down releasing press, but the response is not as quick as the body button so it is necessary to count the lag into your own capture.
The plastic is a little bit "plastic"-easy to deform and leaving scratches on the surface and the cable is delicate too (I accedintally clamped it on my tripod's insert plate and almost peel out the cable coating). But since this is a genuine Nikon accessory, I am confident in its quality.
If you need night photography or leisure waiting capture as I do, this would be a necessity. If you just need something to reduce vibration, use timing shooting mode or the infrared remote control, they are better because the cable will easily get into your way and cause accidents. And its length(1 meter/ 3 feet) is not long enough for you to leave the camera, and not short enough (like 60 cm / 2 feet) to get out of the way. Still, for me, it's worth the money.
PS. It take quite a bit of force to plug it into the camera (and out), and it suggests the camera should be off when I do that, which I often forgot.

Nikon DK-20 Rubber Eyecup for D50 and D70S Digital SLR Cameras Review

I lost the original eyecup piece on my D40 last year because it just fell off by itself. I put it back on a few times but the last time it fell off without my noticing it. The manual states that the original eyepiece is the DK-16, but I didn't want to get another one that would have the same problem.
The DK-20 is a great replacement eyecup for the D40 because it slides onto the lip found around the viewfinder and locks into place. I am confident that I won't be losing this piece because it fits so well and it is so secure. If you need a replacement for your D40/D40x I recommend it!
