(More customer reviews)After purchasing this tripod, I had a bit of buyer's remorse. This was because I started looking at the 700DX and thought that might be a better option. BUT...after receiving this tripod, all my doubts vanished.
The tripod felt very solid when I picked it up. The construction is strong yet very manageable in terms of weight. I wanted a good stable tripod for my Nikon D80, zoom lens and flash - mounted. This is the one!
All the adjustment levers and nobs are very well constructed, feels solid and works as it should. The panning head with the dual handles are positioned to make fine controlled adjustments with the camera mounted. The foam on the 3 legs are nice for handling. The clips to unlock the legs to bring the tripod down to the lowest level for low-to-the-ground shot are an ingenius, yet simple design.
Overall, I can't seem to find a fault with this tripod. For the price and quality...it's a no-brainer. If it came with a carrying bag...that would make it a complete success.

(More customer reviews)This is an awesome tripod. I am only surprised it doesn't yet have any customer reviews, so I decided I must write my own. What I love most about this tripod is how fluid and easy the pan head is to use. I use the tripod mostly for macro photography, so I often end up in pretty awkward angles and the head on this tripod accommodates me quite well. You can also get quite low to the ground with it. It's great for my digital Rebel and all my lenses. My heaviest lens is probably my macro lens the canon EF 100mm f/2.8, but it feels sturdy enough to hold even heavier lenses. The construction is all metal (no cheap plasticky head). Also the head is interchangeable in case you want to get a ball head to use with it instead, although I'm rather impressed with the head that comes with it. For it's sturdiness this tripod is still quite light and portable. It's sturdiness probably diminishes the more you extend the legs which is understandable for its weight, this could be remedied by attaching a stone bag or weights to the center post. Also the center post splits in half, which is really handy for allowing you to get even lower to the ground. I highly recommend this tripod! I love mine!

(More customer reviews)Great tripod to buy and to get it with you anywhere, when i get it out of the box, i thought that it's legs are made of plastic, and it will be very week tripod, but just as i put it on the ground with the legs fully opened, i found that it is very rigid more than i expected from a tripod with this price, i used it with Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF70-200 f4L, with the Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX over it, and it was still rigid, about it's hight it taller than my eye level when the extension tube is fully extended, so i think that it is great for people with a maximum hight of 185 cm, it's weight is great, why pay more than this, the only thing is i think it would be better if it have a ball head.

(More customer reviews)Being new to photography,I purchased the Velbon Carmagne 530 carbon fiber tripod with PH-250B magnesium head for my Canon A95 camera, based upon several other favorable reviews. I wanted a lightweight but durable tripod that was easy to use. This tripod has fulfilled all expectations with its superb quality and close tolerances--there isn't a sloppy component anywhere and it looks as if it were made for the space program. The matt-black finish is beautiful. The carbon fiber legs (the main sections have a black foam covering) extend smoothly and are secured easily with snap-locks. The locking mechanism that controls the splay of the legs works beautifully, allowing the tripod to be positioned for macro shots of ground-level subjects. The 3-way panhead is adjusted with a locking knob and two removable handles (one of which must be removed to store the tripod in the included carrying case--no big deal). The tripod should be able to support even SLRs with telephoto lenses. Fully collapsed, the tripod is roughly 26" long and is easily transported with the case's carrying strap. Although I may never use the "stone" bag (for weighting the tripod down) including it was a thoughtful touch. More expensive models extend to greater heights, but I preferred the fewer leg sections (three) of the model 530. If you think you'll be doing a lot of indoors and outdoor photography and value superb engineering and quality, consider this tripod. It is worth the price, but be prepared to spend over $200. Now having tried a carbon fiber-magnesium tripod, I would never go back to a run-of-the-mill metal one.

(More customer reviews)1. I've used various balheads (Foba, Manfrotto, Slik, Giotto, Cullman, Gizto etc... ) in my life and this is the best one thus far.
2. Pros:
* Lightweight (for the amount of load it can handle)
* Workmanship: top quality.
* The all rubber knobs are an improvement over the original ultimate ballhead.
* The ballhead itself clamps down completely; zero creep.
* This head has everything you need: tension knob, pan rotation, gimbal feature.
* Perhaps one of the most unique things about this head is the elegant and simple design. Unlike other ballheads, this one will never get grimy / dirty/ messed up in and around the head.
3. I would think that the only significant competitor to this head would be the really right stuff medium sized ballhead (slightly more expensive and with a lower load capacity). i haven't used this really right stuff head, but as someone who often photographs in extreme enviornments, I would think that the more simple / elegant design of the acratech product would hold up better in such conditions. furthermore, i wasn't impressed with some other RRS products / heads in the past.
4. Bottomline: this acratech head is one that one could use for a lifetime. the highest of recommendations.

Great power, fast recycle, dependable... but it is small and light enough to attach to your camera body. That is much easier than a Turbo 2x2 on your shoulder. It has enough juice for most shoots, but it do not expect 300 shots at full power. A wedding would take a few of these small units. The one complaint is that it is hard to mount a bracket to the bottom of the battery. It mounts on the screw mechanism and makes the whole thing a bit wiggly. It works but... All in all a great unit for someone who does not use a bracket.

Appart from this, it is what I wanted out of a tripod: firm even on windy situations, the grip head lets you a very quick position of the camera, the leg system of the tripos lets you adjust to every imagine or unreal scenario. If you like to shoot portraits or macro photography you will be very pleased with this versatility. I would defenetely recommend this product if you are or you are becoming a serious photographer.

(More customer reviews)I bought this Trekpod Go in Oct. The monopod is pretty light and very handy as it can be seperated into parts. However, the tripod cannot handle the weight of SLRs eventhough the manufacturers claim to support upto 9lbs.
I have used this but because of the legs being very thin, it shakes for slightest wind. When mounting an SLR its always good to use cable release.
Its a very good investment and is a good spacesaver while travelling.

Sony VCT-1500L Digital Camera & Camcorder Tripod Review

(More customer reviews)While I haven't used any other tripods, I am fully satisfied with this one! I bought this tripod specifically to use with my new DSC-R1 camera. It was listed as the preferred tripod in the camera's accessories book, and seemed to have a lot of nice features, so I figured I would give it a shot.
The tripod is extremely light weight, and is ideal for taking on hikes or walks. It comes with a little bag to carry it in, which conveniently fits over your shoulder and hangs behind your back.
It has a quick-mount for the camera (i.e. a little piece that you screw onto the bottom of your camera that can easily be put on and taken off of the tripod, so you only have to spend about 2 seconds mounting the camera onto the tripod at any given time.
To assemble the tripod out of its container from fully compact size to fully assembled size takes all of 10 seconds. You unhook each of the leg pieces and let them slide to full length. You then tighten those leg pieces and pull the legs out until they click into place.
Despite its light weight, it is quite sturdy.
It's also very customizable as to height or camera orientation (you can just about get any shot or angle that you want). It tilts on all axis and can get as low as 7 inches off of the ground.
All in all, this is a great tripod. Again, I haven't tried any others, but this tripod has yet to disappoint.

Manfrotto 190XDB Tripod and 804RC2 Head (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I've begun to take my photography seriously, and how better to make that statement than to carry around a serious tripod. So I set out to look for a replacement for my 8-year old, $[...] budget tripod, that actually held me in good stead over international trips, vacations within the country, and multiple grade school shows.
Turns out that you can easily spend upwards of $[...] on a stable support for your equipment, and there are tons of articles out there that recommend that you should. However, my budget was nowhere close, so I was looking for the "good enough" option.
I knew carbon fiber was out - they were just too expensive. And given my need for a head that could work well for both my SLR and my video camera, the ball heads were out.
My first instinct was to look at the integrated 728B, but that wasn't rated for digital SLRs. Also, if I'm going to be spending this much money, I'd like the flexibility of using a ball head at some point - and the 725/728 with their integrated heads wouldn't help there.
What fit the bill perfectly was the 190 series. I tried its bigger cousin the 055, but that was just heavy enough to be uncomfortable. The 190XPROB's weight compared very well with the 728B - the best combination of a solid feel and weight. The ability to get real close to the ground with the 190 was the icing on the cake.
Next was the head - I ruled out the pure video heads as well as the ball heads as I needed something that would be good enough for both my camcorder and my SLR.
I first considered the 808RC4, but its cost, bulk, and weight would have made its combination with the 190 a bit much - so I opted for its smaller sibling - the 804RC2.
I liked the generous proportions of the 808, but felt that I could easily get used to the 804, which does a feel a bit twiddly.
I was concerned about the 804 being reviewed elsewhere as being a left handed design, but I didn't find it as such a problem. Of course I haven't used it much yet, so that might still be an issue.
The bundle arrived with the head mounted on to the legs - which I appreciated since I didn't have to read the manual. However, the knobs weren't attached to the head, and that took all of 2 minutes to put together (my 5 year old actually did this part).
So far, I like the small touches like the soft leg pads, the button at the bottom that orients the center column horizontally only when you really want to do so, and the fast release center column (instead of the crank handle on my current one). There's also a peg to hold extra weights in windy conditions. The tripod would be a trifle unsteady when the center column is fully extended, so you might want to check the max height before you purchase it.
And, the head motions are pretty fluid and lock cleanly.
I'd have preferred a better user manual though, the instructions and images were confusing for a beginner. Fortunately, it was written by a fluent English speaker, so I could muddle my way through. Also, how mechanically complex can a tripod really be?
After paying over $[...] for this, I wish they'd included an extra quick release place. I mean, isn't it normal for most people to have at least 2 devices? I can even forgive them for not throwing in a cheapo bag, but this seems darn careless.
If you intend to do much macro work, or if you use long exposures, or if you go on really long treks/hikes, or if you work in windy conditions, or if you're used to locking your mirror to minimize vibrations, then you may be better served by a Gitzo with one of the more expensive Really Right Stuff / Arca heads.
But, if you are looking for a fairly light tripod, that doesn't break the bank, and feels relatively solid/stable, then this should be more than sufficient.

I had used an aluminum Gitzo 1340 for about 30 years and thought it was the perfect fit for me. Then I broke down and purchased the new Gitzo GT3530LS Carbon Fiber. Used with a Nikon D3 with a 500mm f/4 lens and a 1.4x converter; it is all the tripod I need. They are truly more rigid than aluminum. The new anti-twist legs are time saving and far less aggravating. Although expensive, I would and will highly recommend this item to those who ask.

Velbon DF-40 Deluxe Lightweight Photo/Video Tripod with 3-Way Panhead and Quick Release Shoe Review

(More customer reviews)I've been using an old metal tripod for over twenty years and wanted something modern, lightweight and affordable. The DF-40 is all three of the things for which I asked. However, in hindsight I see now that I needed to add criteria such as "well-made" or "quality" to the list I was using to determine my purchase.
The stand itself is adequate and what I expected for the price but the plastic head feels quite flimsy and even when locked down still has a bit of wobble to it. Enough so that shooting without a cable release or IR remote may well cause an unintended motion blur which kind of defeats the reason for using a tripod. All of the knobs and levers feel equally frail and I am willing to bet that something breaks on this tripod within the first half dozen uses. When I first mounted my D-80 to it, I was a little hesitant to move my hands away because the weight seemed a bit much for the head.
It seemed like a good value as the next major price point is significantly higher, but now that I have received it and given it a thorough look, I would not have purchased the DF-40 had I been able to see and touch it first.
EDIT (Please Read) - I've now had the product for about four months now and it has held up far better than I anticipated. The fragile knobs I thought would break still feel fragile, but they haven't broken yet and I carried the tripod in a backpack for about two weeks and it held up fine. Thus I feel it necessary to upgrade my review - I now believe the product to be a good buy and although the page won't let me change my star rating, I would now give this tripod 4 stars.

I used it with my digital camera.
Now that I have started using longer lenses with it have noticed that it is no longer rock steady when I release the grip. Especially a problem when I have it tilted when taking vertical shots with long lenses. I have tried tightening everything I could tighten with no apparent effect.
If you want a great tripod head for use with a light camera this is the one to get. For people taking verticals or using longer lenses it just will not support the weight.

Cullmann 52501 Nanomax 250 Aluminum Tripod With 3 Way Head Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking around for an inexpensive, all-purpose tripod, and having a difficult time picking from among the many choices. A colleague recommended I look into Cullmann. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend for a "cheap" tripod, but I entertained the curiosity nonetheless.
Some research revealed that Cullmann makes nice stuff. It's not the generic, rebranded crap that you see in the $20-$50 range (Slik, Velbon, et cetera, et cetera).
So, having settled on the brand, I was leaning toward the 220 model, but its maximum deployed height isn't very tall, and I'm not fond of the head...so I went with the 250.
I've been using it for about three months now. I've shot video with it using a a Sony PD-150 (3.5 lbs), and have used it extensively with a Sony DSC-H20 for stills. It's forte is stills, to be sure, but it's more than serviceable for video, especially for places where you can't fit/carry/etc a larger tripod. The macro feature is a nice bonus, and it works well as a mono-pod for those situations when you need one.
All in all, highly recommended. The best tripod in this price bracket, in my opinion.

(More customer reviews)Based on positive Amazon reviews and a price that met my budget, I purchased one of these and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and features of this tripod. You may be able to find tripods which are lighter, more sturdy or sport a more famous brand, but I dare you to find one with this mix of features at this price point.
If you're a professional photographer, go look at Manfrotto or some of the other high end brands. If you're an amateur photographer looking for a good tripod that won't cut into your lens budget, then look no further. Its lightweight so you don't mind tossing it into your travel bag. It holds my old Nikon d70s with no problems and is sturdy. Comes with a balistic nylon bag.
Firstly, the legs adjust to 3 different angles, the most extreme of which allows the legs to go perpendicular to the center column. The ball head mechanism is very smooth and precise, allowing fine adjustments with ease. Due to the various angles the legs are capable of doing, Macro work would be nice on this tripod.
Its obviously not in in the league of those carbon fiber tripods, but for under $40 shipped, its a steal.

(More customer reviews)This tripod is mislabeled. It is the Slik Pro 340DX A.M.T model. The A.M.T. stands for the legs material -- an aluminum, magnesium, titanium alloy that is very strong for its weight. The tripod is also of the Silk Pro line, not of the Able line, a mistake picked up from the Adorama website. Finally, by way of corrections, according to Slik, it handles 8.8 pounds "with ease" and has a maximum load rating of 11 pounds. See the Silk website, the American distributors section. This tripod is very light, easy to carry and well made. I would rate it to 7 pounds with ease; 9, maximum. It is a great travel tripod for most Canon and Nikon Digital SLRs, except for the two heaviest models in those lines and except when using the heavier, more expensive and longer professional telephoto lenses. It is very well finished.

(More customer reviews)After a lengthly research on what the best rapid connect would be for my tripod and camera, I found the Manfrotto Rc2. Upon receiving if very fast from the seller I tried it out and woo, it sure was better than the cheapee one's on the market. I tried it out one cold morning (20 degrees) and it was very easy to use in the cold weather when fingers tend not to work so well. I would recommend the product to other people.
