After a lengthly research on what the best rapid connect would be for my tripod and camera, I found the Manfrotto Rc2. Upon receiving if very fast from the seller I tried it out and woo, it sure was better than the cheapee one's on the market. I tried it out one cold morning (20 degrees) and it was very easy to use in the cold weather when fingers tend not to work so well. I would recommend the product to other people.

Average Reviews:

The product isn't what's being reviewed here because it is a standard part of the SLIK tripod I bought. What is being reviewed is the fact that this little piece, which screws into the bottom of your camera, is absolutely mandatory for the proper functioning of a tripod. If you cannot secure the camera to the tripod in a stable way when taking a time exposure then why even bother with a tripod? The problem is that this little piece can easily get lost. Once it is screwed into the camera, when you dismount the cameraandshoe from the tripod at the same time, and set the camera aside, you can just go on using the camera with the shoe on it and forget to put the shoe back onto the tripod. Later, when you want to change a battery or a chip in the computer, you take it off and set it on a shelf. Put in a new battery -- and off you go, leaving the shoe on the shelf and not being able to find it ever again. So, what happens when you lose the shoe? Buy a whole new tripod? If it weren't for Amazon, that is what I would have had to do. I called countless camera stores. No one had it. I went to Fry's Electronic store. They had a shoe, but it didn't fit my tripod. I went back to the store where I bought the tripod. They had more inexpenswive ($45 range) tripods, but NOT more shoes. I looked up SLIK. They have the shoe on there, but won't sell it to you or tell you where to get it. I looked at Target, Sears, Circuit City, Best, and various other big box stores. Only place I could find it was Amazon. So, a big YAY for Amazon!!! Little widgets like this make the world go around. Along with nails, screws, nuts, bolts, Scotch tape and duct tape. Hooray and thank you. I bought four of them because, ditz that I am, I probably will lose a tripod shoe again, at some point, and now I will have another one to back it up!

This plate, which mounts on the bottom of the camera/body, fits the Slik Pro 300DX, Pro 330DX, Pro 340DX and Pro 500DX tripods. [...]
If you have only 1 camera, one of these plates comes with the previously listed tripods, ergo you need to purchase this plate only if you have multiple devices that you want to quick-mount (or if you somehow lost the plate that came with the tripod)... e.g. so you would not need to unscrew and remount the plate to switch cameras.

I just received this monopod and have been playing with it and am really impressed with the high quality so far! For a lot less than other companies charge, this solid, stable monopod will do the job. The construction is solid, with a stable feel to it, and the included ballhead moves easily and locks tightly with no movement once tightened. I would highly recommend this monopod!

I was very pleased with this item. It is very well built and it doesn't feel cheap at all. It has a really nice finish on it and all the mechanisms are made out of metal making it feel very sturdy. The quick release plate is locked securely and firmly onto the head. It has a release lever to allow the camera to pan without having to hold the trigger. The slot position is adjustable so you can have the camera flip vertical to your right or left for portrait shots. The level is a nice thing to have as well. I tried this on my tripod as well as my monopod and I absolutely love it. It saves so much time by not having to twist and turn all these levers to get it to portrait position, all it takes is one squeeze of the trigger and you can adjust it to any position you want. It makes life a whole lot easier when using this on a monopod, it is quick and easy to adjust so you spend more time shooting and less time fiddling with the knobs and levers of a normal ordinary tripod head.

The Opteka TacShot is a compact and convenient trigger-style tactical ballhead, designed for lightweight video or still photography. The very act of taking your hand away from the grip locks the head into position, which eliminates the extra step of having to tighten a knob or lever before being ready to shoot. You have immediate access to half of a sphere in which to position your camera. The TacShot's body is crafted from high impact polycarbonate with the ball head and internal assemblies made from high quality aluminum. A bull's eye style single bubble level helps quickly achieve a perfectly level shot with just a glance at your hand. The included quick release plates allow you to remove your camera at a moment's notice. The Opteka TacShot can be used with all makes and models of tripods that have either a 1/4"-20 or a 3/8"-16 threaded center column post. The Opteka TacShot can support up to 6.6 lbs. For example, that means 35mm up to an 80-200mm f/2.8 lens. This head is ideal for both tripods and monopods.

A little heavy for what it is desinged for, but that's because it is built like a tank. Compared to other similar items, it may be 2x the price but it is 10x the quality.
I bought this for several small cameras that I take out for family outings. It is probably overkill for my small digital camera, but it keeps the camera still which helps prevent blurry pictures.
It retracts to a relatively compact size and has a padded grip area with a wrist strap. This is definitely a quality piece of equiment and Bogen seems to have one of the best reputations of camera support manufacturers.

I got this from J&R NY through Amazon, along with a Manfrotto 055xprob tripod from Adorama. Excellent service from all parts involved and items arrived earlier than expected. These top notch Manhattan establishments have never dissapointed me (along with B&H).
Originally I was going for the 486RC2 but then I found out that this model was replaced by the 496RC2. Main addition is the friction control knob and I gotta tell you this was an awesome addition. The quality of this head and the Manfrotto tripod is outstanding, you do feel the quality components when you touch them. Friction control is great because you can fine tune it depending on the weight of your camera lens.
I was a little worried about not having a separate panning knob like the 498RC2 but the friction control allows me to have just enough friction so I can pan easily with the main knob without changing the vertical alignment of the camera so its a non issue.
Grazie mille Manfrotto per questo produtto, mi piace moltisssimo!!!
Update 01/19: after some use I just want to comment. This ballhead is all I wanted it to be! However, if you do a lot of panoramas do get the 498 model which has a separate panning head. I found out I don't miss one as I don't do a lot of panoramas, plus I have it on top of a Manfrotto 055xprob which is very tall so I don't need to extend the center column. This allows me to loosen the center column nob a little when I need to pan so it serves me as a panning knob. Also you can do it be releasing a little the friction control knob as I stated above.

AR15 QR Weaver Mount/ Cantilever Scope Mount Rear Ring/30mm and 1" Inserts Review

AR15 QR Weaver Mount/ Cantilever Scope Mount Rear Ring/30mm and 1 Inserts

I used this to mount UTG Bug Buster 3-9X32 Compact CQB Combat AO Scope on a flat top AR. The 2 worked well together. Mount puts scope at a good height. I can look threw scope with my front sight not being in the way. Everything locked up very tight and feels sturdy. I like the way the mount looks. The finish isn't perfect, somewhat uneven, but ARs aren't really pretty guns so I didn't care.
The mount came without any instructions but it wasn't very hard to figure out. When I was adjusting and tightening the screw which sets how tight the lever locks the mount the head of the screw started to get deformed and seemed a little soft. This didn't cause a problem and I just guess I should have been gentler. Release lever does work good and although the unit wasn't perfect comparable mounts coast over $100 so I am happy with it.

I am very impressed that this ballhead cost as little as it did and performs as good as it does.
I have a 5D and tend to hang a lot of attachments on it; Strobe unit, remote trigger for studio lighting and a battery pack. All of this adds up to a fairly heavy package, about 4-5 lbs. The head held the the whole package in place without any problem.
The quick-release is the easiest I've ever used. I can put the camera on it almost as fast as I can remove it. It's a thing of beauty. The safety lock is an excellent addition to prevent the camera from being accidentally released.
I am planning on getting more units to add to all of my tripods and monopods.

Manfrotto 498RC2 Ball Head with Quick Release Replaces Manfrotto 488RC2 Review

Manfrotto 498RC2 Ball Head with Quick Release Replaces Manfrotto 488RC2
Average Reviews:

Four rather than five stars because the $400 plus ball heads are smoother. Also own the 322RC2 Joystick which costs a few dollars more. This 498 is smoother and sags less BUT since there is no handle like the Joystick you need to push/pull on your camera and or lens to point the camera. My Joystick tended to stick when I tried to pivot in the wrist turning direction and sags a little when I release the handlever. You can compensate by aiming a little high so it sags to where you want but it can be frustrating.
This new model 498RC2 requires some fine adjustment which is provided. A heavier lens will take more friction on the smaller knob. Aim and give a slight tighten on the larger adjustable level for solid no slip positioning. This new head is only a little lighter than the Joystick but I like it better for the no slip and smoother positioning. Separate lower lever for pivot is nice for multiple horizontal shots not on the Joystick.
The RC2 quick connect/disconnect camera mount works well even if it looks less finely machined than the rest of the ballhead. And Nice little safety locking lever so you are less likely to drop your camera when mounting or removing.
Over all I prefer this 498RC2 to the Joystick because it is smoother with little or no slip. Using the camera and lens to pivot and aim is easy once you get used to it after using the Joystick. For the money I prefer this ballhead to the MUCH More Expensive "Right Stuff" ballheads. Pros will disagree. Perhaps if you need to use a ballhead for hours everyday then you need to pay for the Right Stuff. I am pleased with this new Manfrotto 498RC2 and will sell my Joystick.

OP/TECH USA 6701062 SLR Wrist Strap, Neoprene Camera Wrist Strap (Black) Review

OP/TECH USA 6701062 SLR Wrist Strap, Neoprene Camera Wrist Strap (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This neoprene wrist strap is comfortably wide, can be cinched to your hand with the included buckle-like device, and is not so long that your camera will dangle far from your wrist when you let go of it.
My only concern is the plastic clip that attaches the neoprene wrist strap to the lanyard portion secured to the camera. It looks sturdy enough, and hasn't given any indication that it's going to come loose, but given how easy it is to get your hand into and out of the wrist strap, it seems like the inclusion of this clip doesn't add enough value to the product to justify the loss of peace of mind.
If you were going to be switching between a neck strap and this wrist strap, the plastic clip would probably make that process quick and easy, but if, like me, you're only interested in securing your camera with a wrist strap, the clip feels unnecessary.

Manfrotto 234RC Monopod Head Quick Release - Replaces 3229 Review

Manfrotto 234RC Monopod Head Quick Release - Replaces 3229
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before buying the Manfrotto 234RC monopod head, I had a chance to try the older 3229. The older model had a four-winged nob to adjust the tilt axis of the head that made it difficult to tighten the screw enough to lock the head in place. Once locked in place, the 3229 was prone to sticking so that loosening it again was also difficult. The new 234RC has overcome these difficulties by replacing the nob with a two-winged nob which is much easier to grasp. It also seems that they have used a different material to secure the tilt mechanism which doesn't stick in place. The net result is a basic tilt head that performs flawlessly and is capable of handing a large lens (I have a Sigma 150-500mm) safely and securely.

Sima Quick Connect for Tripod Review

Sima Quick Connect for Tripod
Average Reviews:

Excellent unit very solidly built and designed. The unit seems very durable, but is still light and small. Basically, reminded me of a hockey puck. Works flawlessly for what I need it to do. The inner piece is so small, that I leave it on my camera when I take it off the mount and put it in my pocket. It works excellent with both my Sony Cybershot and Panasonic SDR-H200.
Also, I did have a question to how the unit worked. It seemed obvous that the unit just screws on to a mount, but there are no pictures of the bottom of the product. It does in fact, screw onto an existing mount as there is a hole on the bottom with screw threads that allow it to screw onto whatever your camera will screw onto. As long as what you are trying to mount it onto has no obstruction around the screw you are trying to place it onto, it will fit on just about anything that a camera or camcorder will mount onto.
The removable middle piece was designed so that the screw and the pin next to the screw can be tightened, loosened, or removed with a screwdriver. So you just place the quick release on the bottom of your camera and tighten the screw and the pin, instead of having to twist the camera onto the unit.

Opteka CFM300 68" 5 Section 8x Carbon Fiber Monopod (Heavy Duty) Review

Opteka CFM300 68 5 Section 8x Carbon Fiber Monopod (Heavy Duty)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been searching for a monopod for the past year and finally found one that I intend to keep. I tried out a Manfrotto 680B and it was too heavy. Then a few Gitzo pods, but I always felt they were just too expensive for what it was - which is odd because I own and love my Gitzo tripod. I guess I just feel that a monopod should be no frills/gimmicks and simple enough that it shouldn't cost too much. When researching on Amazon, I was really worried because this carbon pod was less than most aluminum pods, but decided it was inexpensive enough that it was worth the risk. I'm glad I decided to try it out.
The criteria for a monopod was simple - high quality at a low price. My initial impression (after using it for a few days) is that it really hit the mark.
Pros:
-lightweight
-carbon legs are constructed well
-solid twist locks that keep the sections in place
-handles vibration fairly well
-foam handle feels nice
-comes with a cloth zip up case
Cons:
-buckle on strap seems questionable
While I'm sure there are many monopods that are of greater build quality than the CFM300, they also cost 10 times more. I haven't had enough time shooting with this pod, but based on what I've experienced so far, I feel it'll last for as long as I need it to. I will be updating this review as I continue to use this item.
Get one, you won't be disappointed.
