(More customer reviews)I wondered if this camera bag would fit the Canon 7D with the 15-85mm lens together with the reversed lens hood attached - it does! It is a very close fit with some bulges and I do not know yet how durable the material will be in the long run, but for now it does the job perfectly.
(The 15-85mm lens is well under 4 inches long, but a very wide lens and there is no indication of the maximum lens width in the product description. The 15-85mm lens with lens hood attached has a 12.2 inches(31 cm) perimeter and 3.9 inches (10 cm) diameter.)
I would like to note though that it will definitely take more than just a second to get the camera out of the case or back in for storage, it is NOT a fast "walkaround" storage. It does however provide some protection to scratches or bumps and it is so light and the material is so flexible that the camera bag will not take up much space in a pocket or camera backpack. For me the latter was an important plus, so I am very happy with my purchase. Also the feel of the material is very nice and you can carry the camera on its neckstrap while it is in the neoprene bag.
All in all exactly what I was looking for with the only exception that it takes some time to get the camera in and out of the case.

(More customer reviews)This is a great filter to improve your outdoor pictures. The only problem, is that the Nikon lens cap that fits on my 18-70mm lens wont fit on with this filter in place. I was buying this not for improving pictures but to protect my lense, but if the cap wont fit then I'm not going to bother using it on a day to day basis... Keep that in mind. It does improve your pictures, and I will certainly use it for landscape shots and nature photography, but for day-to-day use when I'm pulling the lens cap on and off, it isn't worth the trouble.

I can tilt the flash up and use the built-in diffuser to backlight an entire living room, yet keep the subjects in the foreground properly exposed. Group shots turn out great as the light is bright and spreads out wide and even. This flash can illuminate an entire living room, or put light on close ups with just the proper exposure. A great convenience is that when this flash is attached to the F828, the F828 automatically switches to an external flash mode and disables the built-in flash. No need to fumble with the settings. Another convenience is that it uses easy to find and stock AA batteries.

Clik Elite CE510RE Capsule Small (Red) Review

I purchased this item to fit into the bottom of my High Sierra Powerglide backpack, and the small one will just fit perfectly in the bottom. The larger one will fit too, but at the expense of pushing the sides and front in just a bit. Not too bad though. I'd say if you can pack the larger one without bulging out the sides any, it would fit perfectly into the High Sierra Powerglide.
I like to carry my photo equipment in a non-descript backpack when I am going on a cruise or other trip where it could get ripped-off. Nothing says expensive camera gear than a photo backpack.
Although the small capsule is designed to hold a standard sized DSLR such as a Nikon D-90 and one lens, I do not use it for my DSLR, as I pack that separately in the backpack in it's own Tamrac 515 case. In the Clik Capsule, I pack a Nikkor 70-300mm telephoto lens, a Tokina 11-16mm super wide angle lens, a Nikon 10.5mm fisheye, and a Nikon SB600 flash, as well as a few filters and spare battery - essentially everything but the camera itself. I am quite surprised in how much I can fit into the capsule.
The larger capsule is a bit wider and taller, about an inch extra each, and is designed for a pro-sized camera, or a Nikon D-90 with battery grip. But again, I pack the camera separately, so in the larger capsule, I can fit an additional small lens - Nikkor 50mm f1.8, as well as all of my charger units (for 3 different cameras), a few cables, and a small gorillapod tripod. I bought "shorty" versions of the power and USB cables as the longer ones would probably take up too much room.
When I get to my stateroom and unpack my stuff, I take the capsule out and put it on a shelf in the cabin, and all of my camera gear stays together.
The reason that I do not pack the DSLR itself into the capsule is by packing it in it's own case, I can use that case to carry the camera around on-board ship or shore.
The capsule comes with two dividers with "winglets" on the top as is common for the type that hold a DSLR body and lens. The dividers are the typical velcro type that can be moved around as needed, and there is some padding to the capsule and divider for protection of the equipment. YKK zippers are used, which are also high quality.
This is the small Clik Capsule, and it just fits perfectly into the bottom of the backpack, and the Tamrac 515 above it (inverted). This provides plenty of room for other items, such as clothing to be packed around the camera gear.
The backpack I use is a wheeled style, so it does have some obstruction inside to accommodate the trolley handle. If the backpack did not have the trolley, the large Clik Capsule would have fit.
OK, so why did I buy two of these capsules. Actually I bought the larger one for holding all of my extra lenses and stuff, and the smaller one to sit on top of the larger one to hold the camera. Both would fit in this arrangement into the High Sierra Powerglide backpack, but I later decided I'd rather have a pouch-style pack for the DSLR such as the Tamrac 515.
Using the Tamrac (or similar) pouch for the camera is a more convenient method of hauling around just what items I need for the day.

I also pre-ordered a Kelly Moore bag, but after borrowing my friend's KM bag and putting them side by side for a comparison, I cancelled my pre-order. This bag is heaven. It is real leather and good quality to boot (neither of the other two referenced camera purses were real leather). It fits a ton of stuff inside and I am perplexed as to why the manufacturer refers to it as "medium" size. Also, I am crazy about the extra padding inserts you can put around the camera or lenses (they are not just dividers), numerous exterior pockets, matching wallet inside and the padded shoulder strap - love them all!
I am using it as my daily purse so I can have my babies (Canon 5Dm2, 50mm/1.2L & 35/1.4L) with me all the time and I am loving it. I can't recommend this purse/bag enough.
Also, I was seconds away from purchasing it directly from the manufacturer's website and could not believe Amazon had it for seventy less and free shipping. KUDOS to Amazon!
UPDATE: I've had my bag with me every day for 2 weeks and still love it!

GGS DSLR LCD Optical Glass Screen Protector for Canon 7D Cameras Review

(More customer reviews)In the past, I have applied various stick-on adhesive-backed plastic film screen protectors to the screens of my Canon 30D and 40D, as well as using both custom pre-cut and cut-it-yourself plastic films for the screens on my cell phones and iPods. If the film protector gets scuffed or scratched on my cell phone or iPod, as it always seems to happen eventually, I just wait awhile and let the scratches and distortions build up on the film before pulling it off and replacing it with a new film. However, having scratches and scuffs accumulate on the film protector that covers the screen of a digital camera becomes a far more significant annoyance when I am trying to carefully review photos. Even a few scratch marks on a DSLR screen protector becomes a nuisance when I am trying to review photos on my camera. And so I went ahead and bought these awesome GGS optical glass screen protectors for my 30D, 40D, and 7D main LCD monitor screens. I still use the small film section of the Lexerd - Canon EOS 7D TrueVue Crystal Clear Digital Camera Screen Protector to protect my top LCD panel on all three DSLRs.
Unlike the flimsy plastic films, this screen protector is actually made of a very rigid optical glass material that is 0.5mm thick. Lining the outer perimeter of one side of this very thin sheet of glass is a precisely-fitted 3M double-sided adhesive tape. The precision fit of this adhesive that lines the outer border of the glass is important because if there is not a totally good seal all around this glass sheet, it can allow dust particles to get between the LCD monitor and the screen protector. But upon close inspection, I think that my screen protector has a consistent seal around its entire border. To mount this screen protector, first, you check that the LCD monitor is totally clean. Then you peel off a plastic backing to expose the adhesive, carefully align this screen protector over the 7D's LCD monitor, and press it into place on top of the LCD monitor. Unlike using plastic films, you do not have to deal with possible bubbles or bending/warping happening underneath the screen protector. The adhesive that is used to mount the screen protector holds it in place firmly, yet if you need to remove or just re-position this glass screen, you can slide a thin razor blade or box cutter blade underneath the adhesive to slowly and carefully lift it off the LCD monitor. This glass sheet does not seem to attract fingerprints and smudges the way most plastic films that I have used tend to do. And, most importantly, if I rake my fingernails or even a house key across this glass, I do not leave any marks or scratches on it. Try that on any plastic film! This is the perfect compliment to my 7D's very nice 920000-dot 3-inch LCD monitor. The fit and sizing of the glass is also very precise, going out to all the edges of the LCD monitor. Because this glass is 0.5mm thick however, it does stick out more than if you had applied one of the plastic film protectors. You can actually feel the edge of the glass protector as it sits on top of the LCD monitor, and so that part of the camera's back surface will not be flush. But that is inconsequential to me as I love the clarity of this protector and how resistant to scratches, smudges, and fingerprints it is. Well worth the money for some added protection.

Transcend 2Gb Sd Card 150X Review

Well a little more than 2 months after I got the card, it happened. Went to go listen to my music and nothing would play. Tried formatting a bunch of times, but any files I put on the card get corrupted. I really dont understand what would cause a card to suddenly stop working, but it has. Anyway, I probably wont even bother contacting the store in which I got it or Transcend. But if for some reason I actually get a replacement or get this card to start working again, I'll put up another update. And as everybody should know, Amazon does not allow you to modify the star-rating, but obviously I would bump this down if I could. (What follows is the orginal review I wrote on 2/11/07)
I had been watching this card since October '06 when it was $90. At the time there were only a handful of reviews and all bad. I bought the card in january when it went down to $55 (from Themstore), and so far it has been working flawlessly. The three main concerns people had about the card (which caused me to hesitate) were compatability, stability, and speed.
COMPATIBILITY- This card works in all three of my devices that I use it with: My Dell Inspiron 6000 with a built-in SD card reader, my Dell Axim x50, and my Canon PowerShot SD 450. It worked well with all three devices immediately. They all correctly read its size, and were able to read/write to it with no problems. I then formatted the card in my comp, and the final free storage space is about 3.83 GB.
STABILITY - I have been using the card for a couple of weeks with absolutely no problem, but I will definitely update the review if that changes at anytime. But for now, everything is perfect. I only mention this because at the time of the purchase, the top review was a one star stating that the card was unreliable.SPEED - taking pictures on my camera is fast and easy. I also own a 1GB Lexar Media SD card and a 1GB SanDisk SD Card. The Lexar and Transcend cards seemed to work a little faster in the camera (noticeable when recording movies). My main purpose for the Transcend 4GB Card is for my Dell Axim for Music, Movies, and general data storage. I am able to acess everything instantaneously.
I also conducted a couple of file transfer tests for anyone that is interested. This was after I transferred 1.8 GB to the card from my computer (once again, using its built-in card reader), and it took about 15 minutes. I had other programs running at the time, but I was still curious. First I downloaded a 400MB file to each one of the three cards, and then uploaded the file back to my computer from each. Writing information to a card will always be slower than reading information off of it. Downloading = Writing. Uploading = Reading.Lexar: Download - 2:24 Upload - :55
SaDisk:Download - 2:36 Upload - 1:01
Transcend: Download - 3:03 Upload - 1:16
As you can see the Transcend Card was a little slower. However, after these tests, I was able to download a 311MB AVI file onto the Transcend Card in only 1:44, so it does vary. It is also worth noting that the Transcend uses the FAT32 file sharing system while the other two cards are FAT. FAT32 is used in storage devices that are over 1 GB and up to 30GB. I am not sure if there is any speed difference between the two systems, but wanted to point this out.
CONCLUSION - the Transcend showed to be a little slower when transfering large files. This is not a factor if you are only moving a couple of mb's which only take a few seconds, but its a noticeable difference when moving a GB or two. However, the fact that this card holds 4GB and is fast for everyday use is all I care about. Overall, I am very happy with the Transcend 4GB SD Card. And unless this review has been updated, feel free to assume that I still am.

Macro work and landscape/waterscape shots near the ground are so much easier with the angle finder on than without. I have also used it when doing portrait work to get a more flattering angle without having to kneel or stoop over the whole time.
Now for the negative. It fogs up much easier than the normal eyepiece, which makes seeing anything a challenge under some conditions. And the big one for me, especially with macro work, you loose some light when using the angle finder. So if you are already working in a low-light situation, this only makes matters worse.
But in well-lit conditions where fogging is not an issue and you want to shoot low, this is an amazing accessory, thus the 4 out of 5 stars.

SanDisk 1 GB Extreme III SD Card ( SDSDX3-1024-901, Retail Package) Review

(More customer reviews)I have heard that 32x SD memory performs pretty much as well as the the SanDisk Extreme III cards do.That being the case, you can save about $10-$15 per gigabyte card by purchasing the cheaper 32x offerings.
Then again, SD memory is just becoming the top choice among manufacturers, and even though CF cards are cheap, fast, and durable, they are losing ground to the SD format at a rapid rate. If you have a camera that requires an SD card, get this one. SD will be around for a long time to come, and this card is a generation ahead of all others in terms of speed, and is built to near bullet proof standards. Even if your current camera seems happy with a 32x card, the Extreme III card is four times as fast for just a few more Dollars, and will still be ready to serve when you buy your next generation of digicam. I have two one gig Extreme III cards for my Canon S2 IS digicam, and they have been flawless to date. It is a real treat to know that my digital media can read and write at twice the speed of my current camera, as the SanDisk cards will still be leading edge when I replace the the Canon S2 sometime in the future.
I intend to buy more Extreme III 1 gig cards as time goes by. One gig in still mode is plenty for a two week vacation worth of still shots, but the awesome movie mode on the S2 calls for more memory, and the SanDisk Extreme III delivers the goods in a big way.
One last note. The CF card is the most mature of the lot, even though it is being abandoned by the industry due to it's larger size. Still, it is pretty small overall, and several will fit in your wallet. You can buy an ultra high speed CF card of one to four gig capacity for a song lately. As they get cheaper, buy them. Any cheap $14 card reader will let you use them as storage on your PC or Mac, and they offer great bang for the buck.
If you have a device that requires an SD card though, buy the best on the market. The SanDisk Extreme III is the best you can buy today. Nothing else even comes close.

Tamrac 5534 Adventure Messenger 4 Camera Bag (Gray/Black) Review

Though I've owned several bags over the years, like a typical photographer, I'm always adding more and searching for the perfect bag. Of course this is a misnomer in itself. Anyway, recently I've decided to go the two bag route, one bag for all my gear and travel (to get my gear where I'm going) and one day bag for when I get there, something that can be packed empty into a suitcase.
After much research I thought I had settled on the perfect combination, a Domke F-803 for day use and a Think Tank Airport Antidote for all my gear and as a carry-on (I've not ordered this yet but all reviews point to satisfaction!). The first bit of the plan was to pick up the Domke F-803.
I had looked at one briefly in a store and knew I liked the simplicity and utilitarianism, both big plusses to me. I ordered it and was fairly disappointed. The Domke was pretty much everything I had anticipated except for a couple things; it's too thin (front to back) and the included insert is too tall. Both of these variables negated using my Nikon D70s lens down,
the bag does not accommodate the height of the camera (front to back) nor the thickness (the body sticks out of the top of the bag). Obviously some
of this could be remedied by a shorter insert, it would still however be a tight squeeze front to back.
This led me to another search and I found the Tamrac Adventure Messenger 4. The dimensions were similar to the Domke with the exception that the Tamrac
was at least an additional 1.5" front to back. This difference alone was enough to make a considerable difference. Also, in contrast to the single
insert included with the Domke, the Tamrac has a multiple segmented divider system, typical of Tamrac bags, this made it very easy to adjust the bag to
fit my D70s with 18-70mm lens down with ample room on either side for additional lenses or other gear. The build on the Tamrac is not as simple
or utilitarian as the Domke's canvas, but it serves the same purpose being very pliable, still looking fairly non-descript (it looks like a standard
messenger bag) and lighter than the canvas to boot.
So far I've easily packed the following:
- D70s w. 18-70mm lens down center
- 50mm 1.8
- Medium Rocket blower
- Several filters 67-77mm range in cases
- 2x SB-600 strobes
- Cleaning gear, cloths, etc.
- Memory cards
I could fit at least 1-2 additional lenses plus other smaller gear as I've
not used either the front zipper pouch nor the back pouch. There is also a
cell phone size pouch on the right side of the bag that I've not used yet.
Plusses:
- Small enough for a day bag but big enough to carry quite a lot.
- Nice fabric, supple, conforms to body
- long strap for wearing cross shoulder
- good padding, not too thick though (i.e. low bulk factor)
- quick release buckle, easy one-handed operation
- small amount of velcro on flap, keeps the bag shut but isn't obtrusive
- price, half the price of the Domke
- covert, doesn't really look like a camera bag
Neutrals (I don't really have any minuses), there are only a few:
- the buckle works well but I prefer the brass snap of the Domke
- probably not as tough as canvas but time will tell
- not as utilitarian as I like, I prefer the Plain Jane Domke look and feel
That's it. Overall, I'd have to say this is as good a bag as I've found in a long time. For people who like shoulder bags I'm glad the makers are
finally sidling up to thinner deeper bags in the messenger style. For additional reference I've also owned a Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home which
was, to me, over padded, heavy and very stiff.

For the price I would buy this one again because I can make a few brownie points with friends by giving away a few of the redundant ones. The single pen is only a few dollars cheaper, so grab this one and have a lens pen for each camera bag you have!

Joby GP2-E1EN Gorillapod Flexible Tripod for Digital SLR Cameras Review

(More customer reviews)I have had my Gorillapod SLR for only a couple of days and have used it just once. I bought it for use with a Canon 300D with my 17-40mm lens. (Total weight on this setup is unofficially 2.6 lbs.--unfortunately appearing to be .1 lbs. over the maximum weight specified by Joby. But, for my purposes, I'm considering that close enough.) Given this weight, my heavier telephoto lens is out of the question. Of course, I knew that prior to my purchase.
Here are my initial thoughts/tips:
- Make sure you do not associate any of the regular Gorillapod's "demo" photos on Joby's website with the SLR version's--or at least pay close attention to the SLR "demo" photos. Specifically, around poles and trees, you will want the legs to wrap fully around the object. Anything less will lack the necessary strength/grip. This point is self-explanatory in the photos but I personally didn't examine them close enough and I did sort of mix "demo" photos in my mind when building my expectations. (Call me an idiot but I was slightly curious if the "Gorillapod-helmet" would work. It--perhaps obviously--will not. I don't think I'd even trust it with my Canon A610 digicam. :) But, I broke out a ski pole and the Gorillapod will definitely be secure on the thin pole. An aspen trunk? Maybe if it's a young tree. A swing set pole? Again, a thin one is likely to work.)
- The Gorillapod seems to have a "sweet spot"--in a traditional tripod stance--where it is just fine and seems perfect. Yet, a slight movement lower causes gravity to win the battle and pull the whole thing down in the middle. A movement in the opposite direction seems to make the Gorillapod unstable--too upright perhaps and ready to topple. If, in the future, Joby could implement some form of "parital leg lock," this issue could be solved.
- My next use of the Gorillapod will be for mountain summit photos and an accompanying hike this weekend. The Gorillapod's "feet" are pretty "sticky"--that is, they're basically like a no-slip Vibram sole. So, I think the Gorillapod will do just fine on 14ers/13ers and on lake rocks, boulder fields, etc.--especially in the traditional 3-leg tripod setup. Gorillapod competitors seem likely to struggle on uneven rocks so I'm feeling good about the Gorillapod in this use.
- I bought the Gorillapod because I thought it was the best option I have seen on the market for throwing in a Camelbak--be it for skiing, hiking, or biking. (My other tripod is a 7.2 lb. Gitzo. I've lugged it around on a hut trip and backpacking trip--sans a few leg sections to shave weight. The Gorillapod will suffice from now on, I believe.) When I took the Gorillapod out today for some shooting, I just put it on the camera and carried the camera with it on--the camera being on my shoulder. I walked to a park and didn't really even notice it. The Gorillapod really does weigh almost nothing.
- The Gorillapod makes a nice "monopod" when used with three legs straight down.
- My 22 month old son loves it. So, at worse, it's a great infant toy for improving motor skills.
- Don't worry about the Gorillapod's camera attachment. It's solid.
- I have a buddy with an Ultrapod. I bought the Gorillapod thinking I had way superior technology despite an over doubling of price. Turns out I probably have merely equivalent but cuter functionality. Also, that buddy has a Canon 10D. The Gorillapod only makes sense for Rebel users in Canon's digital SLR lineup--preferably users with the 18-55 kit lens.
In summary, I would call myself satisfied but not overjoyed. I think it is at least equivalent to the alternatives if not slightly better. But, it is not quite revolutionary. And, keep in mind, these are my first impressions following a single use of it. It didn't knock my socks off but I think I can make it work.
I give it a 4-star rating because I will also use it with my A610 digicam. It should be excellent with that camera when compared to the digicam Gorillapod. 3-stars is likely fitting for use with my SLR (given the sweet spot issue, 2.5 lb. limitation, and slightly elevated cost). But, 3-stars seems low. So, consider my rating a 3.5 and I'm rounding up.
