Lowepro Toploader 65 AW SLR Holster Case Review

Lowepro Toploader 65 AW SLR Holster Case

Bought this bag after reading the good reviews. This bag provides excellent protection for your gear. EVERYTHING is overengineered for its purpose; so you really get your money's worth. Plenty of cushioning. This bag works great for my beloved Nikon D50 with the standard kit lens. I'd give it 5 stars if I had just a little bit more room for all the wires, connectors and rechargeable batteries/dock that come with a digital set-up. Its a little bit of a tight squeeze with what I've got right now. Overall worth it!!!

I can't comment on the other Nova bags, but the Nova 3 has a very rugged strap attachment. It's a metal D-ring and a metal clasp. Zoom in on the photo and you can see it. Overall, this bag is very well constructed and has lots of adjustable internal dividers to customize it for your equipment. It may be larger than you need for a small camera, but I think it's just the right size for my DSLR (Pentax K10D) plus battery charger, cables, and a short telephoto. There is still room for one or two additional lenses or an external flash. Overall, a good buy.

Think Tank ~ Digital Holster 10 - Small SLRs Review

Think Tank ~ Digital Holster 10 - Small SLRs

I use this case with a Panasonic GF1 with the kit zoom. It fits perfectly without having to expand the bottom even with the lens hood on. The construction is excellent and the overall quality appears to be pretty high. The hinged screen protector and removable rain cover are excellent features. The outside pocket holds an extra battery and a few cards. It also has a belt loop but i probably won't use that feature. This case is large enough that i can also fit the pancake lens in the case using the provided seperator. Since the case has a shoulder strap i purchased a large Canon wrist strap and use that for camera security while shooting rather then having another shoulder strap on the camera. Ths set up works great for me but i am sure others will have their own preferences.
This particular holster is stated to be a good fit for smaller DSLR's. My DSLR is a Nikon D5000 which this bag states it is specifically for. In practice it does fit but it is a bit more snug then i would like especially since with my DSLR i would be using a shoulder strap instead of a wrist strap. This typically gets piled on top of the camera and the screen protector. It fits but IMO i would get the Holster 10 for any micro four thrids camera and would go with the 20 for a small DSLR such as the Nikon D5000. I am definately going to purchase the 20 soon.

Tamrac 5765 Velocity 5x Photo Hip Pack Convertible (Blue) Review

Tamrac 5765 Velocity 5x Photo Hip Pack Convertible (Blue)

Like many dSLR owners, I've been in search of the 'perfect' camera bag. While that will differ for others based on the size of the camera, lenses, accessories, etc, I'm very happy with my purchase of the Tamrac 5765 Velocity 5X.
I'm planning on traveling with my new Nikon D300 and want to take along my Nikon 18-70mm lens, 70-300mm VR lens, and 50mm lens. I'm happy to report that all three lens and the camera fit snugly into the main body of this great bag. I'll probably keep the 18-70 on the camera although it does work with the 70-300 on camera -- just a little tighter fit when I zip the lid closed. The front pocket can be used for personal items and can even fit my SB600 flash. The top opens away from my body - a feature that I find makes it much easier to remove the camera.
While I want to fit ALL these items in my bag, I also want it to be as discreet and small as possible. That's asking a lot of any bag, but the Velocity 5X manages to do this. It can be worn on the shoulder or across the shoulder, and can be used with or without the hip belt, which tucks away very conveniently into it's own storage pocket on the back of the bag. It's not too big, and not to small - just the perfect-sized bag in my opinion.

Lowepro CompuPrimus All Weather Backpack (Black) Review

Lowepro CompuPrimus All Weather Backpack (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have learned, that when it comes to photography backpacks, there is not a single pack, that will do it all. Not well, at least.
I travel a lot and, therefore, I lug my camera and computer around quite a bit. I'd always relied on a combination of a Lowepro Stealth Reporter D300 (which is a great camera bag for walking around) and a normal North Face backpack, to carry my computer and My Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 when going on airplanes. This was, however, a bit laboursome and I decided to get a more suitable piece of luggage.
I was looking for a backpack that would accomodate 1) my big telephoto zoom lens, 2) my Macbook Pro, and 3) a couple of extras, like for example a book, some clothing items, or whatever one might need in the course of a travel.
I made a lot of comparisons between different types of bags and finally narrowed it down to two: the Fastpack 350 and this one. In the end, I chose the Compuprimus because it has the Lowepro All Weather cover (which have rescued the day for me before) and a tripod support.
And now: the bag. It is HUGE. I stand at 6'2", and the bag still seems quite enourmous on me (well, perhaps not enourmous, but quite large anyway), which makes it less than ideal for walking around in cities with. I live in Beijing, which, granted, is a very busy and overpopulated city, but it is nigh on impossible to take this bag with me on a 'photowalk' in the city. But then again, that's not what I bought it for, and, I suspect, not what most people would buy it for (why would one, for example, want to lug ones computer around with one on such walks?).
Inside, the camera compartment is big enough to hold my camera with beforementioned large zoom lens attached plus a couple of other lenses, memory cards, cables and cleaning kit. With a bit of will, pushing and swearing, one could also fit in ones flash unit (I usually keep it in its pouch, which makes it a bit bigger, so I keep it in the 'luggage compartment' of the bag). The access to the camera compartment is from the rear, facing towards your back, which not only increases security, but actually also makes it more convenient for you to access your gear without having to put the bag on the ground. There is a small 'hatch' on the right (when carrying the backpack), that allows for easy access to your camera. This little hatch is, however, not as practical as one could've hoped for. The opening is not really big enough for me to pull out the camera quickly or smoothly enough for me to use it. I prefer to get it out the cumbersome way. But that may be me, who is clumsy, and not the bag.
The compartment for storing other things, looks quite small, but will actually hold quite a lot. There's ample room for a book or two (depending on sizes obviously), phone, MP3 gear, a delicious fizzy beverage, and a thin piece of clothing (raincoat or some such thing). It is, however, not large enough to fit your jacket AND something else. There's ample room for stuff needed on a flight or a daytrip. There's also a outside side pocket, that'll take some things if necessary.
The detachable computer sleeve sits in front of the bag, and is, as a piece of kit, very impressive. It can be taken out and used as a seperate bag (will only hold a laptop, though) as it has both a handle and a detachable shoulderstrap. It also has a sunscreen, which makes it possible to use the computer in the field when the sun is shining. However, this feature I haven't used yet. I usually just leave the sleeve at the hotel and use the pack without it when 'on location'.
The backpack is very sturdy, as Lowepro's products tend to be, and you can really feel the quality. Despite being so big and heavy (it's some 6 pounds or so when empty) it sits really comfortably on your back. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment bringing this on a daylong hike. The weight is really nicely distributed on your back and hips, it doesn't seem nearly as heavy once you've got it on. The waistsupport and cheststrap only adds to this feeling, and sits perfectly (on me at least).
It's not a cheap backpack, not at all. But you pay for quality and you get a lot for your money. You can also find comfort in the fact, that some of the proceedings from the sale of this bag goes to help polarbears (a fact that calmed mu initial outrage at the asking price). It's also partially made from recycled plastic, and I, being a large consumer of soda, found that very nice indeed.
In short (well, that's a bit too late now, isn't it): it does what it is supposed to do very well. It takes a lot of gear and keeps it safely protected from the elements and the environment. I suspect that if you are a person of a rather petite build, this bag would be too large, but otherwise it is just large. I will most likely purchase a Slingshot as well, or perhaps a Minitrekker or some such backpack for day to day trekking/walking purposes, but this one keeps my travel needs satisfied, which is no small thing in itself.
I rate it 4.5 stars, the .5 subtraction coming from the slightly clumsy nature of the backpack and the less than ideal 'easy access' flap. I would definitely recommend this to others.

Typical od Domke bags, this is really well made and should stand up to lots of hard use. Fits a laptop well with room for lots of other things on top of it, but for something called a "Reporter's Satchel" I wish it had a panel with loops for pens, small pads, cell phone, and so on somewhere in it. It seems strange that it lacks these things. I had another Domke laptop bag that had a padded vertical insert and also all of the organizational elements that I am describing, but why not in this one? Overall, I am pleased with the bag and would not hesitate to buy it, or any other Domke bag, again.

Domke F-6 Little Bit Smaller Bag (Black)

I bought this bag and recently used it to carry my Canon 40D and 70-200mm f4.0 L lens. While going through a cruise ship security, with only the lens in the bag, I picked up the bag after it had been x-rayed and the lens fell out, hit the floor, and cracked the lens barrel--$300 to repair. The bag was latched.
I tested the bag with only the lens inside, both loose in the bag in the insert provided. In both cases, when gently just turning the bag around, the lens fell out. So I caution anyone buying/using this bag to keep it full of stuff, and/or be very aware of how you pick it up.

Lowepro Magnum 400 AW Shoulder Bag (Black) Review

Lowepro Magnum 400 AW Shoulder Bag (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am very impressed with the features and layout of the Lowepro Magnum 400 AW camera bag. Having spent the past several years toting my camera gear around in a Tamrac Pro 12, I was excited to see what Lowepro had to bring to the table in a similar sized shoulder bag.
The Lowepro Magnum 400 AW features plenty of room for lenses, flash, filters, two SLR or DSLR camera bodies manuals, and other accessories. The main compartment of the bag features velcro dividers that are foam padded and have a soft lining to keep the gear nestled into the bag without worry of damage. The dividers are moveable and can be arranged in any number of ways to suit your own gear and carry style. The camera bodies are carried vertically with the lens down with bag, which I am not used to, and doesn't seem quite as stable as the horizontal carry style with lens cradled underneath and from the sides, which is how I'm used to carrying them in the Tamrac Pro 12. Whether one style of holding the camera is better than other I cannot say, but the Lowepro bag does seem to make reaching in and grabbing the camera slightly easier, due ot the camera's orientation in the bag. In the cover of the main compartment are two zippered see-through pockets that are handy for keeping small reference manuals, business cards, or other non-bulky materials.
As for camera fit, I was able to fit my Nikon D300 inside and it felt perfect with the size of the compartment. Trying out my other cameras in the 2nd camera compartment, I found my Nikon N80, Nikon F3HP, and Nikkormat FT3 were a bit on the smallish side compared to the digital SLR's of today, and as such felt small inside the bag's camera compartment and would shift around quite easily, though this would cause no damage to anything as the dividers and padding would prevent any contact with other items in the bag.
The front zippered compartment has several small pouches sewn in to hold your accessories, such as pens, batteries, cables, and other items of interest. A zippered mesh pouch is also provided in the flap, which is a great place to store anything else that won't fit into the smaller pouches. I was able to fit most of my accessories in the front without any issue, though there was less space there than in my previous bag, so it took a little reorganizing to get everything placed conveniently. The side pockets are also spacious and the flaps zipper open a good 3/4th of the way around the pockets to provide easy access to anything you store inside these side pockets.
The exterior of the camera bag is touted as being water resistant, but anywhere there are zippers (these are non self-sealing zippers) there is a chance for water to leak in. Even keeping the exterior treated with a coating of camp-dry or other waterproofing spray will not completely eliminate the chance of water leaking in through any of the zippers, or soaking through fabric where the treatment has worn off. This is not a major issue with the Lowepro Magnum 400 AW camera bag however, as the innovative folks at Lowepro have managed to stash a little goody in the back pocket of the bag. Unzip the back pocket and out comes a waterproof rain cover that covers the entire bag, top and sides, keeping the heaviest of rains from getting into the camera bag. This is a great feature for outdoor photographers who take chances of getting stuck in a sudden downpour when out and about. Of course, I wouldn't go leaving the bag out unsheltered if at all possible, and you aren't going to want to set the bag down where water will pool around the base. This is still a fabric bag, and will not be 100% sealed from the elements like a bulky Pelican case would be.
There are plenty of carry choices with this bag, from a luggage carrier sleeve, to dual handles on either side of the lid, a single handle in the center of the lid, or a very thick, well padded shoulder strap with metal attaching hardware. Also found on the exterior of the bag are a couple of tripod straps, which hold the tripod at the back of the bag, but off the ground. This is a huge improvement over my Tamrac Pro 12 which holds the tripod at the bottom rear of the bag, making it the first thing to clunk down on the ground when setting the bag down. Kudos to the folks at Lowerpro for the excellent, well thought out placement of the tripod straps!
In addition, the Lowerpro Magnum 400 AW is digital friendly and came with a removable pouch that holds extra memory cards, batteries, and even enough room for a Firewire or USB card reader. Also of note is that this camera bag meets size requirements for carry-on baggage when flying is the method of travel. Overall, the bag is rugged, well built, with sturdy hardware, and overall is very well thought out in terms of functionality, durability, equipment protection, and ease of use. This bag has by far exceeded any expectations I could have wished for from a camera bag of this type.

This bag is great. It conforms to your body, feels secure, doesn't draw attention to you, and holds a ton of lenses. I can hold my SLR and 5 lenses with relative ease, along with my charger, two flashes, and various cables/accessories. The strap is very comfortable and long. The body-side of the strap has some sort of rubber lining to keep traction on your shoulder, so it doesn't slip while moving. My only (very minor) complaint is that there is no small compartment for memory cards, they tend to get lost in the pockets. Still, this bag was worth every penny.

Quite roomy for a small camera bag. I had a difficult time finding a small camera bag that could fit my camera. This top-loading bag can hold a larger SLR with a battery grip, hand strap and medium zoom lens attached with a non-reversed lens hood. And there's room for more -- another lens or two or a flash unit and some smaller items like batteries, filters, memory cards, film, etc. The padded lens compartment dividers are velcroed and can be adjusted to fit your equipment. The right and left lens compartments can be further sub-divided with two included padded velcro partitions but I don't find it very useful to stack equipment in this fashion.
The bag is sturdy and well-padded with a top handle and an adjustable shoulder strap. The top is held closed with quick-release nylon buckle for fast extraction of your camera but can also be zippered closed for added protection from the elements. Great bag for short trips!

See full pictorial review here http://www.cambags.com/nikon/d70/shoulder/tamrac_5534_adventure_messenger_4_frames.htm
Though I've owned several bags over the years, like a typical photographer, I'm always adding more and searching for the perfect bag. Of course this is a misnomer in itself. Anyway, recently I've decided to go the two bag route, one bag for all my gear and travel (to get my gear where I'm going) and one day bag for when I get there, something that can be packed empty into a suitcase.
After much research I thought I had settled on the perfect combination, a Domke F-803 for day use and a Think Tank Airport Antidote for all my gear and as a carry-on (I've not ordered this yet but all reviews point to satisfaction!). The first bit of the plan was to pick up the Domke F-803.
I had looked at one briefly in a store and knew I liked the simplicity and utilitarianism, both big plusses to me. I ordered it and was fairly disappointed. The Domke was pretty much everything I had anticipated except for a couple things; it's too thin (front to back) and the included insert is too tall. Both of these variables negated using my Nikon D70s lens down,
the bag does not accommodate the height of the camera (front to back) nor the thickness (the body sticks out of the top of the bag). Obviously some
of this could be remedied by a shorter insert, it would still however be a tight squeeze front to back.
This led me to another search and I found the Tamrac Adventure Messenger 4. The dimensions were similar to the Domke with the exception that the Tamrac
was at least an additional 1.5" front to back. This difference alone was enough to make a considerable difference. Also, in contrast to the single
insert included with the Domke, the Tamrac has a multiple segmented divider system, typical of Tamrac bags, this made it very easy to adjust the bag to
fit my D70s with 18-70mm lens down with ample room on either side for additional lenses or other gear. The build on the Tamrac is not as simple
or utilitarian as the Domke's canvas, but it serves the same purpose being very pliable, still looking fairly non-descript (it looks like a standard
messenger bag) and lighter than the canvas to boot.
So far I've easily packed the following:
- D70s w. 18-70mm lens down center
- 50mm 1.8
- Medium Rocket blower
- Several filters 67-77mm range in cases
- 2x SB-600 strobes
- Cleaning gear, cloths, etc.
- Memory cards
I could fit at least 1-2 additional lenses plus other smaller gear as I've
not used either the front zipper pouch nor the back pouch. There is also a
cell phone size pouch on the right side of the bag that I've not used yet.
Plusses:
- Small enough for a day bag but big enough to carry quite a lot.
- Nice fabric, supple, conforms to body
- long strap for wearing cross shoulder
- good padding, not too thick though (i.e. low bulk factor)
- quick release buckle, easy one-handed operation
- small amount of velcro on flap, keeps the bag shut but isn't obtrusive
- price, half the price of the Domke
- covert, doesn't really look like a camera bag
Neutrals (I don't really have any minuses), there are only a few:
- the buckle works well but I prefer the brass snap of the Domke
- probably not as tough as canvas but time will tell
- not as utilitarian as I like, I prefer the Plain Jane Domke look and feel
That's it. Overall, I'd have to say this is as good a bag as I've found in a long time. For people who like shoulder bags I'm glad the makers are
finally sidling up to thinner deeper bags in the messenger style. For additional reference I've also owned a Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home which
was, to me, over padded, heavy and very stiff.

Lowepro Magnum 200 AW Shoulder Bag (Black) Review

Lowepro Magnum 200 AW Shoulder Bag (Black)

I love this bag!
The Lowepro Magnum series is larger than your usual camera shoulder bags, and depending upon how much gear you plan to take with you, you might be better off with a smaller bag. But unless you really have lots of gear, think twice before you consider getting the even larger Magnum 400 and Magnum 650 shoulder bags as these will start feeling more like luggage slung on your shoulder instead of just being a camera bag. I think of the Magnum 400 and Magnum 650 as being more targeted towards professional photographers lugging their gear to on-location shoots. I am a serious amateur photographer with 3 Canon DSLRs and 7 lenses. Along with the Magnum 200 bag, I also own a Lowepro Slingshot 200 All Weather Backpack (Black) , a Lowepro SlingShot 300 All-Weather Camera Bag (Black) , a MADE Products CA-2001-BLK Seattle Sling Waterproof Bag (Black) , two Think Tank Digital Holster 30, Shoulder Bag for 70 - 200 f/2.8 SLR Lens with Hood Reversed or In Position , Think Tank Steroid Speed Belt V2.0, Padded 3.5" Wide Medium-Large Size Modulus Accessory Belt, Fits 32" - 42", 81 cm - 106 cm, Black , and Think Tank Pixel Racing Harness, V2.0 - Shoulder Harness System. What I take with me depends upon the situation. My favorite travel-light one-camera/one-lens walkabout transport is the Think Tank Digital Holster 30 with their very comfortable Curved Comfort gel-padded strap. For a travel-light two-camera/two-lens approach, I take both of my Digital Holster 30 attached to my Speed Belt and Harness. If I want to look less like a photographer, I may not wear both Digital Holsters attached to my Speed Belt and Harness, and instead I take either of my two Lowepro Slingshot backpacks or this Magnum 200. And if I am boating, kayaking, or white-water rafting, I take my Seattle Sling Waterproof backpack since it is the most water-repellent of my bags/backpacks.
For size comparison, the Magnum 200 is larger than Lowepro's Slingshot 200 and almost as big as the Slingshot 300. It is more boxy and rigid than the Slingshot bags. In fact, its side walls and corners are more rigid than most camera bags that I have used. But this is a good thing since I think that many camera bags are a bit too pliable and do not provide enough cushioning around the corners and walls of the bags to protect against being dropped or bumped into walls. Unlike most camera shoulder bags, a large part of this bag's box-shaped rigidity and structural integrity is due to the one-piece foam frame that is built into the main body of the bag itself. I feel safe that if this bag was dropped onto the floor or bumped against a wall, it would hold its shape and not be deformed or quickly crumpled.
The bag comes with 8 divider pieces that you can use to customize your own compartments. The dividers are thicker and more rigid than those used in most camera bags, including those used in Lowepro's own Slingshot backpacks. Along with the dividers and padded shoulder strap, you also get an accessory bag with four pouches outside the bag for storing memory cards. And a soft LCD screen cloth can be attached to the inside wall of the bag to cover up and protect your camera's LCD monitor screen.
The bag comes with an "AW" All-Weather slip cover that is permanently sewn inside a zippered pocket along the back wall of the bag. You unzip the pocket, pull out the cover, and wrap it around the bag. When you no longer need the All-Weather rain cover, you fold it up, put it back inside the pocket, and close up the zipper.
This bag will carry a full-frame DSLR with an attached 70-200mm lens along with 3 or 4 other lenses, flash, and accessories. I have organized the dividers on this bag to carry both my Canon 7D with attached 17-55mm f/2.8 lens and hood extended, and also my Canon 40D with attached 70-200mm f/4L lens; the layout and ease of access makes it so that I can actually shoot from the bag by pulling either camera out and putting it back into its divided compartment fairly quickly. The bag with all of its dividers and shoulder strap weighs a little over 4 pounds. When my bag is fully loaded with my Canon 7D with attached 17-55mm f/2.8 lens and hood attached, my Canon 40D with attached 70-200mm f/4L lens, a Speedlite flash, battery charger, spare batteries, and lots of memory cards, it weighs about 15 pounds. Using the very comfortable padded shoulder strap, I can carry this bag on my shoulders for walking tours in a city (and alternating which shoulder I diagonally hang my shoulder strap from to give each shoulder a periodic rest). But if I were to hike up a mountain, I would use either of my Slingshot backpacks instead. How comfortable this bag may be for you to carry on your shoulder if you load it up with 15 or 20 pounds of gear may depend upon your physique, shoulder strength, and lower back strength. But the back of this bag also has a trolley sleeve that you can loop over the towing handle of other luggage. So if you are going to the airport, you can just slip the trolley sleeve of this bag over the towing handle of your carry-on bag, and roll both bags into the airport as one unit.
I have posted 10 photographs of my Magnum 200 bag to the Image Gallery for this product, heavily annotated with lots of notes about all of the bags features (click on the 'View and share related images' link in the image section). The quality of the bag's construction is very high, and a lot of thought was put into making this bag really useful and versatile.

Tamrac 5606 System 6 Camera Bag (Black) Review

When I went camera bag shopping, I was looking for a bag that would not only hold all my SLR gear, but also my backup camera and accessories. This bag does all that and beyond. I can carry 2 bodies and 3 lenses with this bag, 28-200, 70-300 and a macro lens, my flash with wireless transmitter, a thin minolta 150 point and shoot camera, my swiss tool, and filters with plenty of room left over. The easy access front pouch is great for film if you are shooting the kids and don't want to miss a shot by having to dig through the bag to find the film. Why look? The film can be placed in the convenient front flap pouch. I use the side pouches to store my cleaning cloths, extra batteries and a photo pen that I carry around.
With the system 6, 2 things come to mind that are key in all camera bags: 1.) lots of space and 2.) secured travel and protection. With the spacious storage capacity of such a versatile bag, a novice to a pro cannot go wrong with this bag. A must for photographers!

Tamrac 5608 Pro 8 Camera Bag (Black) Review

The Pro 8 is one tough cookie. My goal in finding a great gear bag was one that could hold 2 SLR bodies and 3-4 lenses, a flash and multiple other goodies. The bag had to hold it securely, be weather resistant and have top-notch foam padding. i.e. Built to last, so my camera gear would, too! I shoot in all seasons, even winter in Minnesota. I can slip one or two of those neat little "hand heater" pads into the bag in the winter and the INSULATING qualities of the Pro 8 keep the gear warm. The opposite is true in summer or when you must leave your gear in the car during warm days. A "cool pack" in one of the spare compartments does the trick for keeping things at a reasonable temperature for hours. The detachable film bag goes right from the fridge to the Pro 8 quickly, or detaches for inspection at airports in a snap. If you have one camera body and 1-2 lenses, use the extra space for lunch! The Pro 8 is worth every penny.

Lowepro Inverse 100 AW Camera Beltpack (Arctic Blue) Review

When I first got this waistpack, I was not sure if I liked it. It seemed very well made and thought out, but I wanted a slimmer profile. As a female, I wanted something that fit close to my body, not a pack sticking out too far in the rear.
I kept thinking of returning but it really was one of the nicer constructed packs I'd seen. When I tried it with the shoulder strap, then it all worked for me. This allowed the pack to distribute the weight between my hips and shoulders (much easier on my back) plus the strap really helped keep the pack closer to my body. It no longer felt like it was going to flop over.
I spend 3 days hiking around the Blue Ridge Parkway with this pack - with my D80 with an 18-70mm lens attached, 70-300mm and 50mm 1.8 all in the bag and a monopod strapped to the bottom - and it worked great. With the shoulder strap, I could easily pull the bag around to the front and access my equipment then just push it on around to the back when done. I even used the waterproof cover when a rain storm hit us unexpectedly.
I would like to see better pockets for the accessories but otherwise it works great.
