Kata KT DR-466 DPS Digital Rucksack Review

I purchased this bag after trying out a Lowepro Flipside 200 which was nice and I enjoyed the security aspect but it could not fit much, nor could it handle my netbook. I have a small Samsung NC10 which I wanted to carry with me on a recent trip and this was just the bag. It allows me to store my camera gear in the lower portion and tuck away the netbook or laptop in the back which rests against your back. The upper storage area above the camera gear is also quite nice which gives you an area for misc. items, cell phone, pens, etc. If I had to pick a Con for the bag it would be the fact that its a little difficult to push the bottom padded area that stores the camera back into the bag once filled. Not a biggie because if you are carrying this bag you understand that you will not be able to easily change lenses with the bag attached to only one arm like the Lowepro Fastpack, etc. Most of the time once I remove my camera I usually carry it around my kneck and just need a secure place to keep my lenses, etc. This bag looks great and it's a perfect size, not too bulky and looks very inconspicuos when traveling, which is a bonus. It also comes with a rain pouch that you can easily cover the entire bag during those pop up showers.
This is the medium size bag of the DR series. The DR-465 does not have a laptop storage area, and the DR-467 is the big brother of the 466 which allows for a larger laptop and a bit bulkier.
I would not hesitate to recommend this product to a friend. Also Amazon has a good price on this which appears to be the going rate amongst other e-tailers.

The DR-466 Digital Rucksack with Laptop Compartment features unique TST RIB structural protection for two D/SLR cameras with mounted lens, 3-4 lenses, flash, personal gear and a laptop. By removing the padded bottom camera insert you can easily convert this rucksack from a camera bag to a daypack when not shooting. The main compartment holds a D/SLR in top grip position while the modular dividers system will separate, organize and protect lenses, flashes and other accessories to suit your particular needs. The dedicated rear padded compartment will protect a 15” laptop or hold paperwork. The large top compartment will hold personal gear or additional equipment, and the internal pockets and mp3 player pouch will allow you to organize your personal effects as efficiently as your photographic gear. Ample external pockets allow quick zippered access to supplies and a water bottle/ tripod support pocket pulls out from a side pocket. The included rain cover folds neatly away into an integrated pocket and can be hung out to dry on the small buckle next to the handle, or tucked away for storage in one of the pockets. When carrying, a chest belt and balancing waist strap are available for ultimate comfort. The rucksack is also compatible with the Kata Insertrolley (KT VG-DTS) if wheel along transportation is needed.

Tamrac 5767 Velocity 7x Photo Sling Pack (Black)
Love this bag, took it all over Europe with us recently, was able to quickly move it from my back to my side to my front for access or just to avoid the pickpockets...
It holds easily my Nikon D70 with its everyday lens along with the telefoto lens on one side... Since I don't have another lens yet, I was able to keep a bottle of water, sunglasses, whatever I needed in the other pocket, and the flap covered it, so it didn't touch the camera.
The front pockets are a little tight for my extra battery with a memory card in the same pocket, but no other complaints. Seems very sturdy so far, and the compartments are easy to un-velcro and move around.

I can't comment on the other Nova bags, but the Nova 3 has a very rugged strap attachment. It's a metal D-ring and a metal clasp. Zoom in on the photo and you can see it. Overall, this bag is very well constructed and has lots of adjustable internal dividers to customize it for your equipment. It may be larger than you need for a small camera, but I think it's just the right size for my DSLR (Pentax K10D) plus battery charger, cables, and a short telephoto. There is still room for one or two additional lenses or an external flash. Overall, a good buy.

Think Tank ~ Digital Holster 10 - Small SLRs

I use this case with a Panasonic GF1 with the kit zoom. It fits perfectly without having to expand the bottom even with the lens hood on. The construction is excellent and the overall quality appears to be pretty high. The hinged screen protector and removable rain cover are excellent features. The outside pocket holds an extra battery and a few cards. It also has a belt loop but i probably won't use that feature. This case is large enough that i can also fit the pancake lens in the case using the provided seperator. Since the case has a shoulder strap i purchased a large Canon wrist strap and use that for camera security while shooting rather then having another shoulder strap on the camera. Ths set up works great for me but i am sure others will have their own preferences.
This particular holster is stated to be a good fit for smaller DSLR's. My DSLR is a Nikon D5000 which this bag states it is specifically for. In practice it does fit but it is a bit more snug then i would like especially since with my DSLR i would be using a shoulder strap instead of a wrist strap. This typically gets piled on top of the camera and the screen protector. It fits but IMO i would get the Holster 10 for any micro four thrids camera and would go with the 20 for a small DSLR such as the Nikon D5000. I am definately going to purchase the 20 soon.

Clik Elite CE510RE Capsule Small (Red) Review

Clik Elite CE510RE Capsule Small (Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased both the small and large Clik Capsule. This review is for both models.
I purchased this item to fit into the bottom of my High Sierra Powerglide backpack, and the small one will just fit perfectly in the bottom. The larger one will fit too, but at the expense of pushing the sides and front in just a bit. Not too bad though. I'd say if you can pack the larger one without bulging out the sides any, it would fit perfectly into the High Sierra Powerglide.
I like to carry my photo equipment in a non-descript backpack when I am going on a cruise or other trip where it could get ripped-off. Nothing says expensive camera gear than a photo backpack.
Although the small capsule is designed to hold a standard sized DSLR such as a Nikon D-90 and one lens, I do not use it for my DSLR, as I pack that separately in the backpack in it's own Tamrac 515 case. In the Clik Capsule, I pack a Nikkor 70-300mm telephoto lens, a Tokina 11-16mm super wide angle lens, a Nikon 10.5mm fisheye, and a Nikon SB600 flash, as well as a few filters and spare battery - essentially everything but the camera itself. I am quite surprised in how much I can fit into the capsule.
The larger capsule is a bit wider and taller, about an inch extra each, and is designed for a pro-sized camera, or a Nikon D-90 with battery grip. But again, I pack the camera separately, so in the larger capsule, I can fit an additional small lens - Nikkor 50mm f1.8, as well as all of my charger units (for 3 different cameras), a few cables, and a small gorillapod tripod. I bought "shorty" versions of the power and USB cables as the longer ones would probably take up too much room.
When I get to my stateroom and unpack my stuff, I take the capsule out and put it on a shelf in the cabin, and all of my camera gear stays together.
The reason that I do not pack the DSLR itself into the capsule is by packing it in it's own case, I can use that case to carry the camera around on-board ship or shore.
The capsule comes with two dividers with "winglets" on the top as is common for the type that hold a DSLR body and lens. The dividers are the typical velcro type that can be moved around as needed, and there is some padding to the capsule and divider for protection of the equipment. YKK zippers are used, which are also high quality.
This is the small Clik Capsule, and it just fits perfectly into the bottom of the backpack, and the Tamrac 515 above it (inverted). This provides plenty of room for other items, such as clothing to be packed around the camera gear.
The backpack I use is a wheeled style, so it does have some obstruction inside to accommodate the trolley handle. If the backpack did not have the trolley, the large Clik Capsule would have fit.
OK, so why did I buy two of these capsules. Actually I bought the larger one for holding all of my extra lenses and stuff, and the smaller one to sit on top of the larger one to hold the camera. Both would fit in this arrangement into the High Sierra Powerglide backpack, but I later decided I'd rather have a pouch-style pack for the DSLR such as the Tamrac 515.
Using the Tamrac (or similar) pouch for the camera is a more convenient method of hauling around just what items I need for the day.

Lowepro Nova 4 AW Camera Bag (Black) Review

Lowepro Nova 4 AW Camera Bag (Black)
Average Reviews:

I've had this bag for about a year and a half, and it's remarkable. As others have said, the movable/removable velcro dividers provide enormous flexibility, and there are plenty of pockets and strong zippers. The walls and the velcro dividers are well-padded and they secure the contents well to prevent most movement and vibration. There's a little pocket in the bottom front that contains a nylon shroud that can be pulled out to help secure the bag from dust and moisture.
It's a good size: large enough to hold the essentials but not so big that I load it with my entire household (and then have to lug all that extra weight). In the main compartment, mine holds a Canon 20D body, a 17-85mm zoom, a 50mm prime lens, a 70-200 f2.8 zoom (BIG), Speedlite 580 flash, plus polarizing filter, battery charger, spare AAA batteries, and a USB cable. There are other compartments that hold another battery charger and extra rechargeable battery for the camera (the speedlite and the camera use different rechargeable batteries), extra flash memory card, various booklets, maps, and guides, airline tickets, and various other odds and ends.
There are loops on the back of the bag so that it could be attached to a backpack, though they don't look like they'd support much weight for very long.
When I'm travelling, I can sling this bag across one shoulder, a notebook PC case across the other, and still carry a modest suitcase. With all my stuff in it it's barely 12x8x10 inches. Strong, comfortable shoulder strap, comfortable handle, rubber footpads that keep the bag pretty much off the surface, and expansion pockets all over the place.
Seconding what another person said about the color: the green is more subdued and attractive than the photo suggests.
Everything about it just exudes quality. I'd buy it again in an instant.

I absolutely LOVE this bag. I purchased a Jo-Tote which I returned due to poor quality. I also pre-ordered a Kelly Moore bag, but after borrowing my friend's KM bag and putting them side by side for a comparison, I cancelled my pre-order. This bag is heaven. It is real leather and good quality to boot (neither of the other two referenced camera purses were real leather). It fits a ton of stuff inside and I am perplexed as to why the manufacturer refers to it as "medium" size. Also, I am crazy about the extra padding inserts you can put around the camera or lenses (they are not just dividers), numerous exterior pockets, matching wallet inside and the padded shoulder strap - love them all!
I am using it as my daily purse so I can have my babies (Canon 5Dm2, 50mm/1.2L & 35/1.4L) with me all the time and I am loving it. I can't recommend this purse/bag enough.
Also, I was seconds away from purchasing it directly from the manufacturer's website and could not believe Amazon had it for seventy less and free shipping. KUDOS to Amazon!
UPDATE: I've had my bag with me every day for 2 weeks and still love it!

Kata KT DC-439 Digital Case (Black) Review

Kata KT DC-439 Digital Case (Black)

I can't believe no one else has reviewed this product. I have a photo backpack that holds all of my gear but is often too big, too heavy, or too much of a pain to lug around. The backpack also requires you to take it off to retrieve photo gear.
So I had been looking online and in stores for a few weeks for a side bag that would hold my camera, at least one lens, and my sunglasses. Most of the bags I found would hold just my Nikon D90 with a lens attached, but did not have enough room for a second lens or anything else other than a SD card. This Kata 439 bag is perfect. Its super light weight, comes with a nylon water proof/resistant cover, and can hold my D90 with 18-105 attached, a second lens (Nikon 70-300mm or Tokina 11-16mm usually) and either my SB-400 flash or my sunglasses. Its very comfortable and allows access to your gear without taking it off. Also, the zippers for the main camera compartment are kept against your body so no one can easily unzip your bag when in crowds.
I highly recommend this bag to people who do photo walks or day trips. It isn't going to be your only bag, but how often do you really need 6 lenses with you?

I use this bag to haul around my Nikon D80 with the kit lens, along with charger cabling, etc. with plenty of room to spare. There are 2 internal compartments sized for SD card cases, 3 separate pocket areas in the front, and the usual Velcro type compartment arrangement for the camera and gear. I am told the case is large enough to accommodate the D80 with the 18-200 VR lens fitted as well, but I don't yet have that lens to verify it myself. The camera sits lens down in the compartment. The single zipper design makes for fast access and secure containment of your gear. There is also a built-in microfiber cloth, and the pull-over rain fly is a nice touch as well. The build quality is top notch, the only complaint I have is that once you remove your camera, the weight of the bag's flap is enough to make the bag fall over if you leave it open.

Typical od Domke bags, this is really well made and should stand up to lots of hard use. Fits a laptop well with room for lots of other things on top of it, but for something called a "Reporter's Satchel" I wish it had a panel with loops for pens, small pads, cell phone, and so on somewhere in it. It seems strange that it lacks these things. I had another Domke laptop bag that had a padded vertical insert and also all of the organizational elements that I am describing, but why not in this one? Overall, I am pleased with the bag and would not hesitate to buy it, or any other Domke bag, again.

I bought this bag and recently used it to carry my Canon 40D and 70-200mm f4.0 L lens. While going through a cruise ship security, with only the lens in the bag, I picked up the bag after it had been x-rayed and the lens fell out, hit the floor, and cracked the lens barrel--$300 to repair. The bag was latched.
I tested the bag with only the lens inside, both loose in the bag in the insert provided. In both cases, when gently just turning the bag around, the lens fell out. So I caution anyone buying/using this bag to keep it full of stuff, and/or be very aware of how you pick it up.

Reason for buying: Had a Slignshot 100 with D60 originally. Then I upgraded to a D90, which barely fit in the Slingshot 100, so I needed new bag! I saw this in a local camera store, loaded up my D90, flash, extras, and asked to borrow their 70-200mm f/2.8 to see if it all fits. Yup, it does very well.
**Edit Sep 2010 - Added Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX to my kit.
Equipment used in bag:
Nikon D90 w/Nikon 10-24mm with lens hood attached.
Nikon 18-105mm VR
50mm f/1.8
SB600
Charger/Cables
Note: Something will have to go to fit the 70-200mm f/2.8, which would probably be the flash in the top section. You could always get a Tamrac medium flash gun case and strap it to the shoulder. Then, you'd have all your gear in one nice and small pack! Actually, you can fit the 70-200 with reversed hood in the top, along with the SB600/800 in the top. You just have to have the flash in a soft case so it doesn't hurt your 70-200mm!
Pros:
Works wonderfully with the D90 with 18-105mm VR kit and would fit the Cannon 5D w/28-135mm lens. Please view the pics in the customer images section.
Enough room for and expanding D90 kit.
Decent nylon backpack construction
Discrete! Looks very much like a small backpack...not an SLR bag.
Nice color tan/black. I also have the all black and it looks sweet as well.
Fits water bottles in the side mesh pockets. A sandwich, light jacket, apple, can be stuffed in the top among other nick knacks.
Cons:
No weather shield. Need to carry a 13gal plastic bag or something similar to shield it from the elements.
Not quite enough pockets in my opinion. It does have a mesh pocket in the top compartment and a zippered pocket in the main flap. But, you can easily just throw your own gadget bag in the top.
So there you have it. The Aero 70 is simple and small yet roomy, which looks cool and can surprisingly hold a nice camera set-up.
I hope this helps!

I bought this bag originally to take to an air show and have found many uses for it since. It's very well made with high quality zippers and very thick soft lint free lining with two flexible dividers that velcro into the sides. It holds my 40D, 100mm macro, 50mm f/1.8, 28mm f/1.8, 1.4x teleconverter, 4 camera batteries, 8 rechargable AA's, rocket blower, and my 580 EX II flash in its case. What I like a lot about this bag is the small accessory flap underneath the flap on the bottom front to store smaller items and be able to access them with ease. It also has a small back pouch which is good for storing things like a map or other papers. The strap has rubberized grips the entire length of the strap which are very good at keeping the bag securely on your shoulder.
Another great thing about this bag is that it looks like a normal messenger bag, which is great for traveling in airports, train stations, and the like. It's very inconspicuous. Overall, this is a great all around travel bag that can also be used for quick access to your camera when out shooting. This would make a good hiking shoulder bag also.
I've never been disappointed with Domke products, and this is no exception. Every bag I own from them has been nothing but top quality and well designed. Heck, they haven't been around this long by not doing it right!

This waist pack may be good for male photojournalits, but I found it heavy and not made ergonomically, as it claims. Although it has plenty of room for equipment, it sags with the weight of the equipment and is uncomfortable. If you don't care about comfort while carrying a bag over a long distance, by all means buy this bag. I put in one DSLR camera body and two lenses and it's able to manage considerably more. For hikers, however, there is no place to store water bottles. I would not recommend this pack for anyone with back problems looking for a light weight pack to hike with.

National Geographic NG 5159 Earth Explorer Small Backpack Review

National Geographic NG 5159 Earth Explorer Small Backpack
Average Reviews:

I debated between the small and the medium bag because the medium bag was enormous on my small frame (5'2"). After many trips to the city, I found the small bag to hold up nicely. However, now that I am going on an international trip, I feel like I should have gotten the medium sized bag. Also, with a larger lens (Nikon D60 with 18-200mm lens), I found that I had to reconfigure the inside compartments so the camera lays from left to right rather than top to bottom. This forces me to configure the rest of the compartments oddly so I lost one of the four additional squares I had.
The construction of the bag is very high quality and the added rain bag is a plus. It's made of a soft canvas with heavy duty straps for carrying larger items outside of the pack. Unless you have a netbook, don't count on a real computer fitting in the back. I couldn't even get my work laptop (15") to fit.
Overall, I love the bag. I just wish it was a bit bigger but not as bulky as the medium one.
