(More customer reviews)I love this bag!
The Lowepro Magnum series is larger than your usual camera shoulder bags, and depending upon how much gear you plan to take with you, you might be better off with a smaller bag. But unless you really have lots of gear, think twice before you consider getting the even larger Magnum 400 and Magnum 650 shoulder bags as these will start feeling more like luggage slung on your shoulder instead of just being a camera bag. I think of the Magnum 400 and Magnum 650 as being more targeted towards professional photographers lugging their gear to on-location shoots. I am a serious amateur photographer with 3 Canon DSLRs and 7 lenses. Along with the Magnum 200 bag, I also own a Lowepro Slingshot 200 All Weather Backpack (Black) , a Lowepro SlingShot 300 All-Weather Camera Bag (Black) , a MADE Products CA-2001-BLK Seattle Sling Waterproof Bag (Black) , two Think Tank Digital Holster 30, Shoulder Bag for 70 - 200 f/2.8 SLR Lens with Hood Reversed or In Position , Think Tank Steroid Speed Belt V2.0, Padded 3.5" Wide Medium-Large Size Modulus Accessory Belt, Fits 32" - 42", 81 cm - 106 cm, Black , and Think Tank Pixel Racing Harness, V2.0 - Shoulder Harness System. What I take with me depends upon the situation. My favorite travel-light one-camera/one-lens walkabout transport is the Think Tank Digital Holster 30 with their very comfortable Curved Comfort gel-padded strap. For a travel-light two-camera/two-lens approach, I take both of my Digital Holster 30 attached to my Speed Belt and Harness. If I want to look less like a photographer, I may not wear both Digital Holsters attached to my Speed Belt and Harness, and instead I take either of my two Lowepro Slingshot backpacks or this Magnum 200. And if I am boating, kayaking, or white-water rafting, I take my Seattle Sling Waterproof backpack since it is the most water-repellent of my bags/backpacks.
For size comparison, the Magnum 200 is larger than Lowepro's Slingshot 200 and almost as big as the Slingshot 300. It is more boxy and rigid than the Slingshot bags. In fact, its side walls and corners are more rigid than most camera bags that I have used. But this is a good thing since I think that many camera bags are a bit too pliable and do not provide enough cushioning around the corners and walls of the bags to protect against being dropped or bumped into walls. Unlike most camera shoulder bags, a large part of this bag's box-shaped rigidity and structural integrity is due to the one-piece foam frame that is built into the main body of the bag itself. I feel safe that if this bag was dropped onto the floor or bumped against a wall, it would hold its shape and not be deformed or quickly crumpled.
The bag comes with 8 divider pieces that you can use to customize your own compartments. The dividers are thicker and more rigid than those used in most camera bags, including those used in Lowepro's own Slingshot backpacks. Along with the dividers and padded shoulder strap, you also get an accessory bag with four pouches outside the bag for storing memory cards. And a soft LCD screen cloth can be attached to the inside wall of the bag to cover up and protect your camera's LCD monitor screen.
The bag comes with an "AW" All-Weather slip cover that is permanently sewn inside a zippered pocket along the back wall of the bag. You unzip the pocket, pull out the cover, and wrap it around the bag. When you no longer need the All-Weather rain cover, you fold it up, put it back inside the pocket, and close up the zipper.
This bag will carry a full-frame DSLR with an attached 70-200mm lens along with 3 or 4 other lenses, flash, and accessories. I have organized the dividers on this bag to carry both my Canon 7D with attached 17-55mm f/2.8 lens and hood extended, and also my Canon 40D with attached 70-200mm f/4L lens; the layout and ease of access makes it so that I can actually shoot from the bag by pulling either camera out and putting it back into its divided compartment fairly quickly. The bag with all of its dividers and shoulder strap weighs a little over 4 pounds. When my bag is fully loaded with my Canon 7D with attached 17-55mm f/2.8 lens and hood attached, my Canon 40D with attached 70-200mm f/4L lens, a Speedlite flash, battery charger, spare batteries, and lots of memory cards, it weighs about 15 pounds. Using the very comfortable padded shoulder strap, I can carry this bag on my shoulders for walking tours in a city (and alternating which shoulder I diagonally hang my shoulder strap from to give each shoulder a periodic rest). But if I were to hike up a mountain, I would use either of my Slingshot backpacks instead. How comfortable this bag may be for you to carry on your shoulder if you load it up with 15 or 20 pounds of gear may depend upon your physique, shoulder strength, and lower back strength. But the back of this bag also has a trolley sleeve that you can loop over the towing handle of other luggage. So if you are going to the airport, you can just slip the trolley sleeve of this bag over the towing handle of your carry-on bag, and roll both bags into the airport as one unit.
I have posted 10 photographs of my Magnum 200 bag to the Image Gallery for this product, heavily annotated with lots of notes about all of the bags features (click on the 'View and share related images' link in the image section). The quality of the bag's construction is very high, and a lot of thought was put into making this bag really useful and versatile.
