(More customer reviews)I got this adapter from Rainbow Imaging and it works great. This adapter will maintain infinity focus as can be seen in the pictures as well - adapters must fit within the camera mount and be flush with the body to achieve this - any adapter that sticks out from the body will lose infinity focus.
The adapter is a simple metallic ring with an added retainer clip that keeps the adapter from getting off the camera. The key that comes with the adapter allows you to keep the retainer clip pressed against the adapter, so you can remove the adapter from the camera. It's also useful when mounting the adapter, to help tighten it.
Some people worry about the clip getting stuck inside the camera mount, so if you're concerned about that, another alternative way of using this is to unscrew the retainer clip, then tightly screw the adapter onto the M42 lens, then mount the lens as a regular K-mount lens. The risk with this approach is that the lens may come off if you are not careful, because there is nothing keeping the adapter inside the mount (the lock that works for normal K-mount lenses cannot work for an M42 adapter).
I've used the adapter both ways and I'm currently using it with the retainer clip on. When removing the adapter just follow these steps:
1. Don't panic
2. Use the key to keep the retainer clip pressed against the adapter
3. Try to not push the key too much towards the mount - try to just grab the tip of the adapter, so you can turn the adapter without the key getting in contact with the mount
4. Turn firmly, but don't apply excessive force - it's not needed and may lead to scratches
For the price range, I doubt there is a better alternative to this adapter.
