(More customer reviews)After purchasing this tripod, I had a bit of buyer's remorse. This was because I started looking at the 700DX and thought that might be a better option. BUT...after receiving this tripod, all my doubts vanished.
The tripod felt very solid when I picked it up. The construction is strong yet very manageable in terms of weight. I wanted a good stable tripod for my Nikon D80, zoom lens and flash - mounted. This is the one!
All the adjustment levers and nobs are very well constructed, feels solid and works as it should. The panning head with the dual handles are positioned to make fine controlled adjustments with the camera mounted. The foam on the 3 legs are nice for handling. The clips to unlock the legs to bring the tripod down to the lowest level for low-to-the-ground shot are an ingenius, yet simple design.
Overall, I can't seem to find a fault with this tripod. For the price and quality...it's a no-brainer. If it came with a carrying bag...that would make it a complete success.

The PRO 400 DX has many of the same professional features of the PRO 700 DX and even adds a few more of it's own.The PRO 400 DX is an all-metal tripod, which is more than suitable for digital or 35 mm SLR cameras and medium format cameras. (More customer reviews)Great tripod to buy and to get it with you anywhere, when i get it out of the box, i thought that it's legs are made of plastic, and it will be very week tripod, but just as i put it on the ground with the legs fully opened, i found that it is very rigid more than i expected from a tripod with this price, i used it with Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF70-200 f4L, with the Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX over it, and it was still rigid, about it's hight it taller than my eye level when the extension tube is fully extended, so i think that it is great for people with a maximum hight of 185 cm, it's weight is great, why pay more than this, the only thing is i think it would be better if it have a ball head.

I had used an aluminum Gitzo 1340 for about 30 years and thought it was the perfect fit for me. Then I broke down and purchased the new Gitzo GT3530LS Carbon Fiber. Used with a Nikon D3 with a 500mm f/4 lens and a 1.4x converter; it is all the tripod I need. They are truly more rigid than aluminum. The new anti-twist legs are time saving and far less aggravating. Although expensive, I would and will highly recommend this item to those who ask.

My gig is kind of heavy, Canon 1DS MK3 with the 70-200mm F2.8L the heaviest lens that I currently have and it supports it without any issue. I also have the Arca-Swiss Z1, which is also considered to be the best and the combination is so good to use. It is not light nor heavy but if this is the one tripod that you must have for all purposes, then I can't think of any other tripod to buy. It is pricey, but if you want the best and keep with you for a long time, then just buy it and forget it.

Dolica AX730P105 73-Inch Proline Tripod and Pan Head Review

(More customer reviews)I got my Dolica AX730P105 73" Tripod, which Amazon was prompt with delivery, and found to my surprise that 73" height is without the center column extended! The legs feel sturdy and once locked, very sturdy. Fit and finish is at par with more expensive tripods.
The weight hook on the center column is a great place to hang your camera bag, and I've found the weight of my spare 3 lenses is good enough to keep the tripod study under gusty conditions.
The only problem I faced is the quick disconnect mount is a bit shaky - The fit with the bracket is just not tight enough. I had this problem solved by sticking a thin sheet of polycarbonate in between the quick disconnecr mount and it's base. Otherwise, a five star tripod. Comes with a good quality carry bag.
Pros:
Good over all build quality.
Sturdy legs.
Solid Tilt & Pan mechanism - Locks down real tight.
High quality carry bag.
Height - Max height attained without raising the center pole.
Cons:
Shaky quick disconnect mount.
The lever for tilt mechanism has to be unscrewed and removed for storage in the bag.

On this particular one the quick release head is a little awkward but seems to get better with use. The problem is probably not as noticable with an SLR but I am using a very small digital camera with this tripod.

Most of the reviews that I read were mixed and no one tripod stood out as being good. A professional photographer recommended this one for beginners. His point was that why gamble with a cheapo $35 tripod to support your $700 + camera? Point well taken! I went with this one hoping that I will get what I paid for; A good tripod that will last a long time and not fall apart after a few uses. It seems sturdy so far.
I will point out that it does not have any "Bubble Levels". Also, the LCD Screen on my Nikon D5000 does not fold down all the way due to the mounting plate location on the tripod.

(More customer reviews)I received this tripod for Christmas, and it has been a great little tripod to carry around. It's light enough to carry around on trips or hikes. The ball head makes it easy to position the camera to get just the right picture at the right angle. I was filming a wedding and had a camcorder up on the tripod. Because of the way the seating was arranged at the church, the tripod was at an odd angle. With the ball head it was trivial to get the camcorder level.
The only drawback that I have noticed is that it does not come with a quick release mechanism for the camera. You have to screw the camera directly to the tripod. This makes the tripod a little awkward to use. I bought a quick release adapter, the Manfrotto 323 RC2 Rapid Connect Adapter with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate, and that works great with this tripod.

(More customer reviews)This is probably the best under 100 dollars, prosumer, entry-level, complete, ball-head tripod. It is full of good features that will allow you to do versatile things with your tripod. it is light-weight, compact (yet extends to a reasonable height), and comes with a carrying case which has a sling. everything seems pretty solid on this tripod. the ball head easily locks in solidly and stays where you put it. the legs pull out to three different, extended positions. (here i'm talking about the angle of the legs, not the telescoping length.) the first position requires no movement of the locking mechanism-you freely move between closed position and the first extended position. for the second extended position you must pull the locking mechanism out halfway and for the third extended position you must pull the locking mechanism all the way. the locking mechanism is not indexed, it pulls out perpendicular from its leg in a continuous fashion. the stem extension is relatively smooth with a bit of "catching" when you don't pull the stem straight up, but it locks in solidly. this same catching is experienced with the leg's telescoping length extension. to save money they only put a grip on one leg, that's okay. the only real complaint i have is that on one of the legs, the mechanism which hides and exposes the spikes on the ends of the legs is a bit "sticky" when you twist it. however, this is not so bad that i need to return it, and in fact, it has gotten better.
i highly recommend this to anyone who wants a tripod that will not fall apart on them as the cheep 15 dollar ones WILL. I have a "kodak" tripod (which is just some generic pan/tilt tripod with kodak's name printed on it) and the plastic has broken all over it. this tripod is mostly metal, and the plastic components seem solid (compared to my "kodak" tripod who's plastic is still breaking off).
again, this is very versatile for the price. please watch their video to see all the things it can do.
also, the plate on the ball head has rubber on it, so when you screw it on to you camera or binoculars it really sticks to it. i use this tripod for astronomical binoculars as well and it is great. because each legs moves independently, you can sit and lean back in a chair and put the binoculars right above you-great!
oh ya, it's made in china...probably the biggest con.

Induro AKB1 Tripod Kit (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)As a photographer that shoots in various terrains, packing quality gear that can go the distance is a given. Coming from a steadfast user of Manfrotto tripods, I have to say that Induro's AKB1 Tripod is a nice surprise that leaves quite an impression. Originally I purchased this model as a backup tripod. However, after a little over eight months of use its found itself as my go to tripod. Its proven itself time and time again.
Made primarily of a magnesium alloy and aluminum, the AKB1 weighs in at about 3.5lbs and measures 26" folded and 62" fully extended. Even though I've been guilty of exceeding it a few times with both my Nikon D3s and D300, the maximum load is rated at 12.8lbs. The head mount thread size is the standard 1/4" and 3/8".
Like I said earlier, the AKB1 leaves quite an impression. For me personally the biggest selling points are the;
1) Adjustable Quick Locking Legs - Even on an uneven surface the height and spread is easily set by a flip of the quick lock leg levers. The legs are double keyed sections that unlike cheap knock offs don't rotate.
2) Snap-in Quick Release Plates - One of the better QR systems out there. I highly recommend picking up more then one of these durable plates.
3) Ballhead with Single Action Control - Well constructed, this single lever locks camera position and head rotation simultaneously.
4) Spider - Impressive magnesium alloy body. Rock solid and built tougher then most. Its cross braced and is the center system that provides for excellent core stability.
5) Center Column - Grooved and nicely built. It prevents unwanted column rotation and allows for low angle shooting.
6) Center Column Lock - Definitely a great design that adds structural support and helps in reducing vibration.
7) Bubble Level - One of the few mounted levels that works well for me. It aids in adjustment, uneven panning, and tripod head movements.
8) Weight Hook - Sturdier then most, its spring loaded and allows additional weight mounting stability especially during windy conditions.
9) Foam Grip - I actually like this more then I thought I would. It provides comfortable handling in extreme conditions and surprisingly has held up well.
10) Weight - Usually I'm not a big fan of light weight tripods. Durability and overall quality makes this one an obvious exception.
The only negative with this tripod is that it did not come with spiked feet. I had to purchase those separately. The Induro AKB1 comes in both a black or gun metal finish. This tripod is also packed with an above average nylon carrying case with a padded shoulder strap. The all metal hardware on the bag is top notch. The manufacturer also tags on a two year warranty.
For me personally, this product has gone the distance and more. The overall quality of this tripod speaks volumes. Without a doubt, I would recommend the Induro AKB1 to any serious photographer out there.

(More customer reviews)First I ordered this tripod on Amazon.com and it arrived right on time. It qualified for free shipping which was great, the box weighed 20 lbs.
I felt like I was taking a bit of a gamble when I ordered this tripod. There is not much info out there on Ravelli and the APGL4 tripod is a new product. I am really happy with what I recieved. There is no plastic on this thing anywhere. The pistol grip head alone would usually cost more than this whole setup. It comes with two plates which is nice and has all of the features you would expect in a tripod costing much more. The center colum is reversable, spikes on the feet, two levels on the tripod and one on the head. I am using it with a good sized spotting scope which weighs about 7 lbs and it is rock solid. Not much to complain about, the movement on the head could be a little smoother. Also the bag that came with the tripod is about 1/2 inch to short to zip with the head on the tripod.
Bottom line for me is this tripod is a freakishly good value. Its heavy duty and has all the features. Not the nicest I've seen but I have seen and owned tripods costing 2-3 times as much that were not nearly as nice as this one.

Dolica AX620 Quick Release Plate for AX620B100 (Black) Review

The other high rated reviews of this item all mention a price of 7 or 8 dollars. At that price I would agree it would be a good additional purchase for owners of the Dolica AX620B100 tripod like myself. Now that it is being offered for double that price I'm thinking of just ordering another entire tripod for $39.99. That way I get this extra plate and a second tripod in case anything on my original should break. That's $79.98 for two complete tripods or $54.98 for one tripod and an extra plate. I guess the individual price of this item just proves what a great value the complete AX620B100 tripod package is!

(More customer reviews)I use this to mount my older Hi8 digital camcorder for recording beach volley ball tournements and it holds up well to the strong on shore breeze. This thing is made of alumninum and is very light for its size. Its also strong, I set up a Nikon DSLR and hooked my bookback in the middle of the tripod as counter weight. It was holding at least 15lbs. You can point it in any direction and orient the camera how you like. big plus for me because i like to point my camera at the sky.
the locking mechanisms allow you to control how tight or loose you want to be able to move your camera very well. at the appropriate tightness, you can move the camera very smoothly and it will stay in place when you let go, but make sure its not too loose. all the tightning nuts can all be adjusted by hand too, including the piece that connects to the camera(ive seen some tripods that require a screwdriver).
this tripod is sturdy, and can be set up very quickly. and it packs up nicely. i can attach it to my rebel camera bag with no problems.
Im very happy with this tripod.

I used this tripod as a tripod and though it was pretty good, then I needed a boom in a studio shoot to hold a Canon 7D/batterypack/77mm lens at full extension. Amazingly this tripod held the camera steady while being held by the leg ends horizontally. It did bend a bit (as carbon fiber should) but never broke, craked, or made any noise. This was a real stress test since it was used in an unintended manner with a 5+lb weight on the ball socket and it worked very well. If you have a Manfrotto/Bogen - get this one for a spare!

(More customer reviews)Tripod head is all metal, no plastic parts to break or strip so camera weight is not an issue. Joints and machine screws came factory lubricated and hold true in any position. Head is removable and quick release mount is spring loaded and locks solid (also metal). Legs lock in place with plastic compression clamps that are quite sturdy. Elevator gear moves flawless after a few squirts of DW 40 or Silicone. No spikes on feet. Weight hook is plastic, flimsy and worthless. All in all having a metal head with your tripod is worth the price. Most tripods are junk but they made this one right! You should buy it. Comes with a great bag.
