(More customer reviews)My quest for a highly compact tripod to use with my Canon Powershot G9 led me to this Manfrotto unit, which is actually quite sturdy given its size. True, the legs fold out only to one position, but that gives the unit its strength despite its small size. The single lock knob tightens both the tilt and rotation of the ball and socket head - not as flexible as separate controls but certainly leading to a more compact and still strong support.
I have owned the Leica compact legs and ball head for some 3 decades now - they're still available to day for somewhere in the neighborhood of $120 total - but on business trips find even it to be too large and cumbersome. So the combination of the G9 and this Manfrotto tripod is ideal. And don't think it's limited to work on table tops - I occasionally use it by bracing it against a convenient wall.

If you don't like the idea of a warranty - DON'T BUY ONE!! I don't need to know that you disapprove of my purchase, based on your own sovereignty; and I certainly don't need to be bothered researching a 1-star review like that. (More customer reviews)As some folks have said it's an auto focus lens, but not for the lower end Nikon bodies. It doesn't have the auto focus motor built in so you need to focus yourself. It's still called an auto focus lens because it will auto focus with the correct camera body.
I have a D3000 and it's a compact body so it needs the lenses that have the motor built in. If you look at the back of the lens where it mounts to the camera you can see a silver keyed pin and this is what's driven by the cameras that have an auto focus motor. If you don't want to focus manually on these cameras, you'll need the one without the drive pin.
Even without auto focus built in the lens is easy to use and the pictures are clear. While you are buying, be sure to get a uv filter for it in 52mm. I had a spare because I bought two for my d3000 when I purchased it. Also, since you need to focus, make sure you adjust the view finder so your focus is correct. I had mine set incorrectly and when I though the picture looked good I was actually focused on something else.
Another thing, the zoom and focus are quite stiff when brand new and loosen up as you use it. I've got about 200 pictures on it and it's good. It feels good and solid. The Nikon one feels a little nicer but the price for the Quantaray is good.
My next purchase will probably be a 18-200 that they make so I don't have to switch out from the 18-55 and 55-200 on the fly.

You can't see through the display/screen before shooting, only after shooting you can see the review on the screen! It's a pitty! All the rest is awesome! I have taken excellent pictures! (More customer reviews)This has been one of the best investments that I have made for this camera (Nikon D3000). I have been able to take stunning Macro shots without the use of a macro lens. I have not had to make and changes to the camera or devices that came with the camera and they have worked flawlessly the first time they were put onto the camera. This product is every bit worth the money that i spent just for the tubes and it comes with extras in the box (they are the ones in the description, such as cleaning cloth and so on). This is a must buy if you are into the photography thing and you like to get close up images of variety of things ranging from things like flowers (about tic tac size) to monarch butterflies and other insects. Fantastic Product and would definately recommend to a Friend for their photography needs.

For the price, not only do you get the camera cheaper than that currently listed at Best Buy, but you also get the 16GB memory card and case, both retail for about $30. I've reviewed each item below as they are listed above.
: This is a great starter camera. I suggest you read the reviews on the main Amazon D3000 product page.
: I highly recommend this 16GB card. On the highest JPEG setting I can take just over 2,000+ pictures. On the RAW setting I believe it takes around 1,000+.
: This battery is not a Nikon brand battery, but it works just as well, especially for a spare.
: The camera case is durable and has Velcro compartments that allow you to customize the layout. I configured mine so both my DSLR and point-and-shoot fit perfectly.
: The D3000 comes with a connector cable so you can plug your computer into your camera to download pictures. I still find it helpful to use this card reader though. All card readers are fairly basic and this one does its job.
: I'm not a big fan of the memory card wallet. It's just a leather pouch large enough to hold a few cards. But with your 16GB card, will you really need any more memory cards for this camera?
: The cleaning kit has all the basics.
: Luckily I haven't had the need to use the recovery software, but its good to know I have it in case I ever need it.

(More customer reviews)I'm exceptionally pleased with this purchase. The D80 feels very well designed, very well thought-out, very capable without being too complicated. I was considering the D200 before the D80 was announced, but it seemed like a lot of money for a body, given that I'm just a hobby photographer. The D80 seems to be most of a D200 without the more expensive magnesium body and the weather-proofing--nice things I would love to have, but does it really make sense given my use and the $800 difference. The hardest part for me was the 3 frame per second burst rate of the D80 compared to the 5fps of the D200, but Ken Rockwell and others wrote that unless you are shooting a lot of sports, you're probably going to be happy with the 3fps and I think I am. Also, I took Ken's advice and went with this lens which is the least expensive of the kit lenses and placed my order for the impossible to get 18-200mm Nikon lens. This lens doesn't have a lot of reach but it seems amazing in quality.

(More customer reviews)I looked at other remotes that sold for less money, but decided to go with Nikon. In testing, the remote worked from 12 feet away in a nearly 360° range, except for a couple of blind spots at the back quarters. A foot to either side found the camera. There was no need for a setup process, except for removing the battery shipping strip, which is clearly marked. The remote worked with my d3000 the very first time I pressed the button. It needs line of sight, but that's to be expected.
The lens cleaning kit that comes with the package is also of high quality. I probably wouldn't use the microfiber cloth on my lens, but it works great for eye glasses.

Targus Digital TG-BGD40 Battery Grip for Nikon D40/D40x/D60 Review

(More customer reviews)This is my third attempt at owning a battery grip for my Nikon D40x.
My first was one of those grips that's also a built-in rechargeable battery in itself. Sounds great in theory but the fit to finish was horrible. It didn't sit/mount flush with the Nikon camera body. And the texture of the grip was shiny and smooth, while the Nikon body is purposely textured a bit rough and not as glossy. My second attempt was a similar battery grip by another maker, though it was identical to the one I've originally stated. Back it went for a refund, as did my first.
With that being said, the Targus BGD40 is my third attempt and it's a keeper. The fit to finish is the best I've seen on any after-market item for Nikon. It fits flush and tight to the Nikon body. No gaps are along the seems. Nothing rattles. And both the Targus grip and Nikon camera body compliment each other nicely.
This grip will hold either two Nikon batteries or six AA's. That's nice for times of travel, if your Nikon batteries can't be recharged for any reason. And of course this Targus grip gives you a full size camera, when you need one. Plenty to hold!
It does feature a vertical shutter release, but keep in mind that it functions via infra-red signal. You simply tell your camera to use remote shooting, and turn on the grip's vertical shutter. You also have to hit a switch on the grip that releases a little pop-out infra-red remote. That's all there is to it. It's not horrible. It's not great either. But if you need it, it's there. You can't half-press focus like you're use to doing with the vertical shutter release. You just press (just as you would your Nikon wireless remote control) and the camera quickly detects the best focal point and snaps the photo. That's not the fault of Targus. Nikon didn't include a way for battery grips to communicate to the camera body. At least not on our lower end D40 series cameras.
But all in all, I like the grip, and it's a nice option to have and at a fair price.
One more thing.. yes, the little battery door that comes off of your Nikon body gets stored inside the Targus grip for safe keeping.

(More customer reviews)I did a lot of research before I purchased this item, however; there were no reviews on it as it relates to the D5000. The only thing I could ever find is the manufacturer claiming that it fits the D5000 or someone elses review of it for a different camera (D40/D60.)

I'm just getting back into the SLR frame of mind for photo's and I knew a battery grip was one thing I wanted. The lack of a NIKON grip for the D5000 nearly kept me from purchasing the camera but the D5000 was really a great entry into the dslr arena, so I bought it and the OPTEKA battery grip.
The OPTEKA grip does fit the NIKON D5000 but it's not a perfect fit. The "tray" that the bottom of the camera is nestled in when they go together is just "slightly" larger than the bottom of the camera. A person who isn't a camera entheuiast probably wouldn't notice and from a small distance it's not noticable but things like this usually bother me! Don't get me wrong, it's not a loose fit, the grip fits tight and there is no slop, it's just that the small raised lip around the top edge of the grip is "slightly" larger then the bottom of the camera! It's not really an issue but consumers need to know this because this may bother some people! The outer demensions of the grip are virtually identical to the outer demensions of the camera and the look and finish of the grip are pretty much spot on!
When you hold it, it feels similar to the D5000. It appears to have a similar build quaiity to the camera body. It doesn't add any significant weight to the camera except for you now have two batteries instead of one. This product also comes with a battery cradle that holds six double A batteries so if you get in a pinch you can buy new batteries virtually anywhere! I havn't tried this out yet!

I was also worried about taking off the cameras battery door to install the grip but that was very easy, it just snapped right out! They even have a slot in the grip for you to put the battery door in so you don't lose it!
Installation was a breeze. You just gently remove the camera battery door (instructions come with grip) and slide the electronic contacts (male) into the battery receptacle (female.) Then you turn a thumbwheel that turns a bolt (1/4") that screws into the area on the bottom of the camera where you usually attach a tripod and you're done. It's a tight solid fit and it all feels like one piece! The grip also has an area on the bottom of it where you can attach a tripod (1/4".) It all feels very good in my hands!

After about a month of use I highly recommend this product for anyone who has a D5000. Overall the benefits of this product far outweigh the fact that it may actually have been produced and intended for a "slightly" larger camera. It is a wonderful product that I am very happy with and it adds to my enjoyment of my D5000.
I can't comment on the vertical shutter release as I personally have no interest in this feature as of yet.

(More customer reviews)This is a great Digital Camera. I own the Nikon D80 and wanted to get a DSLR for my wife as she has been interested in photography.
This camera is a little smaller and very easy to use. We really enjoy the on screen programing on the back of the camera. The D3000 does not come with the live view but that really does not make a difference as if you are taking real photos you want to use the viewfinder and not live view. The quality of the picture are very good and very comparable to the D80. We like the ease of use and the best part is that the lens are interchangeable so we did not have to go out and spend a $1000 on new lens. If you really want a great camera that will work for most amateur or semi pros this is a great camera. It takes great pictures, easy to use and is very fast. It size really makes it a very easy to carry around too. Battery life is incredible, over 600 shots outside. I actually find myself using it more that my D80 when I am just running around taking shots.

(More customer reviews)Going on other reviews, I decided to give the grip a try for my Nikon D5000. The fit was great and materials were not as cheap as I thought it would be. The IR sensor for using the grip vertically worked great but I will probably never use this feature. The grip made handling the camera easier and more stable. Having two batteries working together allows for shooting much longer periods. For the price I don't think you could find another grip any better.I would definitely recommend this product for anyone looking for a basic battery grip for their Nikon D5000.
