(More customer reviews)Have had for about 6 months now. I use this and the pentax 360 flash. They both have features the other does not. Haven't used wirelessly yet but for the price I paid it has worked wonderfully for me the times I have used it.

The PROMASTER 7500EDF Digital is a fully dedicated TTL flash designed to work seamlessly with today's high tech digital SLRs as well as traditional SLRs. It includes many advanced features including motorized zoom, multiple and modeling modes, and remote slave function. Along with all of these great features, you get full TTL integration with your digital SLR. The flash has a low profile design, a metal flash foot and features the added benefit of being able to update the firmware which insures that you will get many years of reliable flash photography. One of the handicaps of a camera (film or digital type) is the need to have good light to make a great picture. Many of today's cameras can take pictures indoors without flash or offer a built in electronic flash. However, adding more light in just the right amount can make the difference between a good picture and a remarkable picture. When you see pictures taken by today's contemporary photojournalists, the definition and tonality of the picture can be awesome. Accurate color, sharp detail and balanced illumination are important parts of great photography. And while some people still think film cameras make better pictures than digital, many who are shooting digital know that their pictures easily rival those shot on film. The biggest limitation to a digital camera is the sensitivity of the image sensor. Even though you can adjust the film speed setting on your digital camera, you really are only adjusting the software. Setting the ISO does not really change the ability of the camera's sensor to absorb light. It is more like tuning the color and contrast control on a television. Like most of the camera companies, Pentax offers a basic and more advanced (or powerful) flash. As basic flashes go, this one only lacks "swivel" (side-to-side adjustment) from ranking 5-stars. In terms of exposure accuracy, this flash ranks equal to the best.
Useful features included that aren't typically found in cheaper flashes are:
1) Built-in wide angle diffuser. Need a bit more width in the coverage? A pull out panel is located in the top of the flash;
2) Built-in "catch light". This small, white card is in the same space as the diffuser. If using bounce, this will help elimate shadows caused by the bounce, and puts a little gleam in the eye;
3) High-Flash synch. Most useful for outdoor portrait photography, this allows you to set the shutter speed to faster than normal, allowing you to control the depth-of-field;
4) "Spot Beam" function. In low light situations, the AF illuminator in the flash fires to help the AF system of the camera. The SB features allows the illuminator to work even when the flash is not used for exposure (such as in a museum);
5) Command functions. Unlike the Nikon SB-600 or Canon 430EX, this flash can be used to control and trigger multi-flash operations.
A very good basic flash, only a swivel away from 5-star perfection!

Metz mecablitz 58 AF-1 digital Pentax Review

(More customer reviews)I have a Pentax K-x and am waiting for the prices to drop to upgrade to a K-5. I was looking for the best of the best on-camera flash to capture unforgettable moments in low light or dark situations. This flash by all means completes this task.
I was looking at both Metz and Pentax flashes and was drawn to the Metz because they specialize in developing flashes and most differentiating in the 58 AF-1 is the "A" function which means Automatic. It uses on board readings to judge the output of the flash instead of relying just on the camera via PTTL. While both modes work well, I find that Automatic is better. Another distinguishing point of this flash is the rotating main flash allowing me to bounce off an available wall or ceiling and when I shoot directly I implore the built-in diffuser until I decide to pick up a real one to attach to it. The secondary flash is great for filling in shadows in faces and overall just adds so much more usefulness. There is a USB port for updating the firmware to support new cameras. The high power output allows me to light almost any situation as best as possible. Comparing this to the other ones available, the functionality and power output is really no comparison.
A flash will last me through several bodies and prices don't depreciate that much so I made the investment. It has many capabilities that allow me to learn more and use it to the fullest extent, such as being the master trigger for other flashes. I have had no issues with this flash whatsoever and power it using Sanyo Eneloop AA batteries.

(More customer reviews)I am very happy with this flash especially the price. I looked for weeks for a flash that had a reasonably high guide number that was also reasonably priced. OEM flashes well over priced and my was ready to buy a Metz 48 when I found this for approximately $100 less. Auto focus works well as well as the auto zoom and appears to give the rated GN. In manual mode the ability to reduce the output to 1/16 is excellent for backlighting when doing macro work. The only problem I have is the battery cover which seems to pop out when hand holding off shoe but not a major problem if you don't grip it to tightly. I'm not a pro but this is a vertical flash for amatuer use and I would recommend it.
