IMEDION AA 2400mAh NiMH Rechargeable Batteries w/Holder- 4 Batteries Per Pack Review

As I googled the Internet and Forums, I found mixed result, some people claims Eneloop performs better, and some claims otherwise. Therefore I decided to do an experiment on both of these batteries to find out which one is a BETTER PERFORMER and better for investment.
Objective: To find out the better performer battery
Items:
1. Four pieces of Sanyo Eneloop AA 2000mAh NiMH Battery
2. Four pieces of PowerEx Imedion AA 2100mAh NiMH Battery
3. Nikon Speedlight SB-800
4. Remote Flash Trigger
5. Process recording device (Sony DSC-P10)
Methodology:
1. Fully Charge the battery
2. Insert battery into Nikon Speedlight SB800
3. Nikon Speedlight SB-800 set to M 1/4 -oEV
4. Fire the Speedlight as soon as it is ready (when the red light is on)
5. Repeat step #3 until the battery is completely depleted
6. Record the following:
a. X number of shots per minute after X number of shots
b. Total shots per charge
7. Repeat the process with next set of battery
To ensure both battery both are in identical optimal condition, I bought both new set of Eneloop and Imedion. Both sets are new and fully charged for 8 hours as recommended by manufacturer for initial use with the same PowerEx MH-C204W Travel Charger before begin the test.
Please refer to the graph my site.
I started off with Eneloop with a recorded blazing fast 60 round per minute (rpm). It drops to 53rpm after the first 100 shots, and then it drops further to 52rpm after 200 shots. It stabilized at average of 45rpm from 300 shots to 1300 shots. It drops to 39rpm at 1400 shots and drops further to 37rpm after 1500 shots. Finally it drops sharply but still managed to squeeze a total recorded 1564 shots. Pretty impressive for first round.
I followed by Imedion immediately. At the initial minute it has a noticeable lower refresh rate compared with Eneloop and I recorded a 51rpm for the first minute, lower than Eneloop 9rpm. It then dropped 20% performance to 42rpm after the first 100 shots. After 200 shots, it stabilized at average of 39rpm from 200 shots to 1200 shots (compared to 45rpm Eneloop). It drops slightly to 36rpm after 1300 shots to 1500 shots. Then it drops further down to 17rpm after 1600 shots. Finally it is completely depleted at 1660 shots.
Conclusion:
Eneloop completed at 1564 shoots and Imedion completed at 1660, approximately 100 shots more than Eneloop, which is pretty much expected as it is a 2100mAh vs 2000mAh, with approximately 5% extra power. For a fair comparison, I only benchmark up to 1500 shots, which is already beyond what average number of photos a person can take on a whole day event (with speedlight)
On cycle performance point of view, Eneloop out performed Imedion from 4rpm to 14rpm with an amazing everage of 6rpm on a consistant performance.
In this experiment, I concluded that the Sanyo Eneloop is a better performer than PowerEx Imedion, at least in speedlight point of view.
Full review, graph, experiment results are available in my blog at: http://www.calvinstudio.net/?p=472

I decided to purchase new rechargeable batteries for my Digital Camera because my old ones were giving me less than 50 pictures before they needed to be recharged. I purchased these batteries and am taking around 150 pictures per charge. Now I don't have to worry about my camera going dead or carrying a ton of extra batteries. These work so well and I am so impressed that I will be purchasing a lot more of these for use around the house. It is much more economical and convenient.

TruCELL 2900 Series AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries, 4 Count Package Review

I use AA batteries for a variety of things as do we all and I recently became educated as to the difference between rechargeable batteries.
Unlike the non-rechargeable NiCAD batteries, the rechargeable batteries all have a power rating on them somewhere on the battery and package and it is usually in very tiny numbers and letters. Almost like reading food labels for sugar content.
What I have found is that the rechargeable batteries out there seem to range from 2000 to 2900 mah. Most common are 2500 mwh while the Tru-Cell are 2900. That speaks volumes in itself.
The Tru-Cell 2900's are easily the most powerful AA I have yet to find. After 4 hours of recording and/or playback my recorder usually shows only 1/4 down rather than ready for replacement. I have yet to completely drain a pair.
I could not be more pleased. These batteries claim to be "green" and they are. I have complete confidence in them. More so than my regular old Kirkland or Duracell NiCAD batteries, which until I run out I will use as emergency back up for my Tru-Cell.
One caveat:
You need to keep them charged FULLY to realize their full potential. They seem to drain a bit when just sitting and being stored and it is enough for me to keep the charger full at all times, then the batteries are ready to go and they'll outlast the little pink bunny easily.
Try them out. They are reasonably priced, you will not need a charger specially for them if you already have an AA charger and THEY LAST!
THIS IS THE HIGH DRAIN DEVICE AA POWER SOURCE YOU WERE LOOKING FOR.

These Powerex AA rechargeables are the best I've tried.
I've tried several different brands of NiMH AA batteries (Delkin @ 2900 mAH, Power2000 @ 2500 mAH, La Crosse @ 2600 mAH, Duracell @ 2650 mAH, and DigiCam @ 1800 mAH). I use the La Crosse BC-900U charger on all of them so that I can see to what capacity they can be charged to, and even the La Crosse batteries that came with it can't be charged up to their own stated capacity. Duracell and Delkin both had a dud in each 4-pack of AA batteries. For all five manufacturers, the fully charged capacities of their AA batteries never exceeded about 80% of their stated capacities. None ever came close to a "full charge'. There was always at least one in each pack (excluding the dud in each pack) that would only charge up to about 50-60% of capacity, which would lead to a premature "Low Battery' shutdown of my camera.
The Powerex on the other hand, all charged to 95%+ of their rated 2700 mAH capacities and really last!.

The four AA rechargeables alone are worth the price. The charger is primitive--no automatic shutoff, no on/off switch, no labeling telling you which slots to use if you are charging only two batteries--but it works.
It took me a few minutes to realize that there was a plastic film that needed to be removed from the contacts on the charger before it would work.

Average Reviews:

I've only had this a week, but since there are no reviews I'll throw one up, so to speak.
I have other chargers - a BC9009 and a Maha C800s - if I've remembered the models correctly - and I like 'em both. So why did I buy this one?
Well, for one thing, it's half the price of a Maha charger, and the charging current doesn't look to be as high. Why is that good? Because I like to be easy on the batteries. The Maha charger has one flaw as far as I'm concerned, the "soft" charge should be the default, not the "fast" charge that heats the batteries up. Since the tiny LCD wording saying "soft charge" is so hard to read, I sometimes miss getting it on, and shorten the lives of the batteries unnecessarily, which annoys me when it happens. So I've taken to keeping a charged battery in the maha at all times to hold it in "soft" mode... which turns it into a 7-cell charger.
Now the Maha does pulse charging, which is supposedly better, while from what I can tell this one doesn't. However, I seem to be getting a lot of utility from it. It does allow you to slap in a bunch of different batteries, and only charges them as long as they need. In the real world, this often means a fairly fast charge even without heating them up.
The unit being reviewed seems physically as sturdy as the Maha charger. It has spring clips rather than the more premium clips in the maha, but actually some of my batteries, like panasonics, are too short to complete the circuit in the maha, while they work fine in this one. This one also seems to be more accepting of nearly-dead batteries than the maha - I often have to jump through hoops to put a slight charge on a cell to get the maha to even recognize it.
Another thing I like about this one is that it comes with both a 110v power supply and a 12v car adapter. One reason I like this is that I have a 12v solar power system, and that means this charger can be seamlessly switched to that system, just at a time when my need to recharge batteries (power outages, etc) may be highest.
I imagine that this "Hi Tech" isn't as high tech as the Maha, but it may be high tech enough to be a good deal at half the price. I find the display to be easy on the eyes, the ergonomics to be decent, and the cycle time to be about like the Maha on "soft" mode... only I don't have to push a button to get it to that mode.
Frankly, Either of the 8-bank chargers is more use to me than the BC-9009, which also doesn't do pulse charging and was pricy. It is capable of some tricks the others aren't, but who has the time to program it? I find I keep it in a drawer and only use it when I have the time to run batteries through a time-consuming testing process.
So I'm giving this 4 stars at the current price of $30. And if I haven't come back to change it, then my opinion hasn't changed - I always go back and edit a review if my opinion of the product changes.
So far, so good.

Sanyo 2,700 mAh AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (4-Pack) Review

Sanyo 2,700 mAh AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (4-Pack)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These are quality batteries w/ 2x's more power and [Longer RUNNING time] than most lower capacity NIMH batteries, including the "ready to use"/ Low self-discharge (LSD) types!
Never thought I would care about writing battery reviews, but the High capacity rechargeables are getting a bad rap from some reviewers b/c they have to be charged (before) use, in order to get back their capacity, after being left (un-used) for more than ~ 3-4wks. Their stored power when [NOT in USE / device turned OFF] is lost faster than batts that keep hold of theirs longer = the LSD types like Imedion 2100 mAh -or- Eneloop 2000 mAh.
-BUT these high capacity batts (2700- 2900 mAh) have an intended purpose, which is a reason the top companies make Both types in the 1st place.
[In Storage]
Yes, the LSDs are useful b/c they have a [Longer STORAGE time] (before needing to be recharged) than the high capacity types. Thus the LSDs are "ready to use" and good for seldom used devices & intermittent usage. However, this doesn't negate the effectiveness of 2700-2900 mAH made by quality brands.
[In Operation]
Not all users (all the time) need a rechargeable for good shelf-life... Some need it for High power & LONG run time for "shorter" segments = 1- 20 days (i.e., photo shoot, day-hike/bike/caving, day at the beach with ur RC (radio-controlled) toys, holiday lighting, etc, etc. And a quality brand (2700-2900 mAh) will do the job.
The decision is [WHEN] do you pick a :(High Capacity/ high self-discharge) -or- (Low Capacity/ Low Self- discharge)...Not picking the universal "better" one. The "best" would be a High capacity & LSD & Rechargeable all in one!- but that's not available yet.
Now, Sanyo's REAL competition is ( Powerex AA 2700mAh NiMH ). They're both good -I would pick 1 over the other, based on sale price or latest technology release.

Nikonos V 35mm Underwater Camera (Body Only), Color: Orange, 10070 Review

I have been wanting one for several years. I purchased it less as an underwater camera, but more as an all weather all climate camera; it has not let me down. It's built like a rock and water tight. I have used it in rain and in the surf, it has performed flawlessly and the pictures are crisp and clear. Later this year, I will be using it as a dive camera.
I recommend it to anyone looking for either a dive or just an all weather camera. I would suggest to any one purchasing a Nikonos to lay in an extra supply of O-Rings and grease. The 35mm Nikkor lens is geared for both underwater and land photography.
I found the Nikonos much better deal than current underwater digital cameras and a whole lot cheaper than purchasing an underwater housing for a land SLR.

Duracell Value Charger With 4AA Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh Batteries, CEF14DX4N Review

Duracell Value Charger With 4AA Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh Batteries, CEF14DX4N
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This package (CEF14DX4N) includes four new Duracell 'Pre Charged' NiMH AA cells, plus a simple charger. The batteries are similar to the Sanyo eneloop low-self-discharge cells. In fact, based on their identical technical specifications and physical shapes of (+) and (-) terminals, I am convinced that the Duracell Pre Charged AA is actually SANYO eneloop AA underneath a different wrapper. Therefore all the good things you heard about eneloop apply to Duracell 'Pre Charged', too.
The 'value charger' (CEF14) included here, however, is not a good value because:
1. It is a timer-based dumb charger, meaning that it doesn't detect when cells are full charged. It simply charges at 360mA for 6 hours and turns off. You have to wait until your cells are fully exhausted before recharging, otherwise they will be over-charged. With a 'smart' charger, you may choose to top-off your rechargeable cells any time.
2. It can only charge either 2 or 4 AA cells in pairs. This is very inconvenient if you have appliances that require odd number of cells.
3. It can only charge two AAA cells, and you cannot charge any more AA cells at the same time.
My advice is to get the CEF23DX4N package for just a few dollars more (*). It comes with four Duracell Pre Charged cells (2xAA + 2xAAA), but the included charger (CEF23) is far superior in every aspect. It even operates from your vehicle battery, and doubles as an USB charger, too.
[Update on Dec 24, 2008]
I was only half-right when I boldly proclaimed that "Duracell Pre Charged AA are rebranded Sanyo eneloop cells" in my original review. It turns out that the first batch of Duracell AA cells I bought from Amazon are made in Japan, and those are identical to eneloop (both mechanically and electrically). But lately I bought some more Duracell AA from a warehouse club. Those are made in China, and they are identical to the Rayovac Hybrid.
[Update on Feb 15, 2010]
I have confirmed that the new Duracell 'Value Charger' has several improvements over the old model:
- Works from 100-240V AC (instead of just 120V AC)
- Able to charge 4 AAA at a time (instead of just two)
- Semi-smart charge termination (stops when BOTH cells are fully charged)
The only remaining drawback is thet it charges in pairs only.
(*) [Update on Oct 7, 2010]:
Duracell has discontinued the excellent CEF23 charger (at least in the US) last year. So prices for the remaining inventory have skyrocketed. If you need an inexpensive charger that can handle individual cell, consider the Sanyo eneloop MDR02 2-cell charger.

Nikon Coolpix P50 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Angle Optical Zoom Review

Nikon Coolpix P50 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Angle Optical Zoom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For me the equation was simple: I wanted a good camera at a good price. Nikon has a strong reputation for its optics, and they have produced high quality cameras. My wife and I owned an earlier CoolPix camera that took very good pictures, but was poorly constructed. The P50 truly lives up to its Nikon heritage. The camera is small, but has the heft and feel of a solid instrument yet it is easy to handle. The large Nikkor lens captures the light without a trace of distortion. The menus are intuitive, and the features are just right for a serious amateur photographer. Experimenting with the macro feature on camera, I inadvertently caught a bee in mid flight. The P50 captured the details of the cilia on the bee's head and thorax, and almost stopped its wings in mid beat. This is a fantastic little camera at a fantastic price. Above all, this is a camera that lives up to the Nikon reputation for quality.
