(More customer reviews)I just got (after 8 working days, that is fast!!!, all the way from Seller at NYC to Mexico City, for only 10 bucks!!!) the Digital Concepts (Sakar) 2X Teleconverter for Sony Alpha. It is very well constructed and fits perfectly, in fact it is just the same construction and quality as some other brand-name teleconverters (Vivitar, Bower, Kenko, I guess they are all manufactured at the same plant... -China-). As expected, it doubles focal length at the expense of lens speed by also 2X, that is if you use a 75-300 4.5-5-6f (as I do), you will end with a 150-600 11f.
Performance is pretty good considerng that you will loss autofocus with such small aperture but anyway no need to autodocus on distant objects as infinite position is almost a constant at such far away targets. I have taken some amazing moon shots and far away volcanos with great success. I still beleive that this is a much better solution against croping on your camera or PC.
All in all, I fully recomend this teleconveretr to expand your lens collection, and for the price you will end doubling your reach and lens stock!!!!

Kenko 1.4X PRO 300 TeleconverterDG-Canon EOS Review

(More customer reviews)This is an exceptional tele-converter for Canon EOS lenses. There are a number of tele-converters out there for current Canon SLR's and lenses (Sigma, Tamron and of-course Canon just to name a few). The Canon converters are only compatible with Çanon L series lenses and will only auto focus with apertures of F4 and larger (for 1.4X) and F2.8 and larger (for 2x). The Kenko PRO 300 has the same aperture limitations (unless some of the pins are taped) however it will work with most Canon lenses. This is definitely a quality PRO product. When used with a high quality lens (I use it pretty much exclusively with my EF70-200f4L) the IQ (image quality) is almost indistinguishable from the lens. In addition focus speed seems just as fast as the lens with out the tele-converter (assuming your lens has an F4 aperture or larger). The general consensus seems to be that the Canon converter is slightly sharper on the edges with the Kenko being equal at the center. For those shooting with a 1.6 crop camera the Kenko should be indistinguishable from the Canon for about a $100.00 less. On the plus side (other then price) the Kenko is more compact and can easily fit in you pocket and can be used with far more lenses (again, the Canon converts can only be used with L series lenses). On the down side, if your using L series lenses, is the color. The Kenko is black while most L series lenses are white (as are the Canon tele-converters). What you get with the Kenko PRO 300 is an excellent tele-converter designed for digital cameras. The elements are special coated to reduce reflections from the image sensor back into the lens. I've yet to notice any chromatic aberration or vignetting. The color and sharpness are as good as the lens you're using.
In summery, this an excellent product. Image quality (especially on a 1.6 crop camera) is about as good as it gets. It's electronic circuitry accurately passes all exif data to the camera. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the mount between the lens and converter seems to be a little stiff though it has yet to give me problems. On the other hand the mount from the converter to the camera seems to be quite smooth.

The PRO 300 can be used with telephoto zoom lenses as well as prime lenses. However, Kenko does not recommend them for zoom lenses that have a range starting under 50 mm.

(More customer reviews)Of course you're not going to get a Nikon quality lens or teleconverter of high quality for an item this cheap, but if you have, say, a 200mm and want that extra range on occasion, this item will do fine provided you have good light conditions. I don't see the point in buying a $400 accessory that you use maybe twice a year, so if you are a nature photographer or sports photographer, this isn't for you, but for photographers who might want to photograph their local sports team or do some photo taking while hiking and not in need of professional, stock quality images, this will suit the bill. And carrying it in your camera bag won't make you as nervous about cracking the glass as would a high priced item.

(More customer reviews)When I ordered the product I was not aware that it was solely intended for the Sigma Telephoto lens product lines. I'm sure its a beautiful product that works in concert with the intended lens.
My intention was to 2x my Sigma 18-200mm for macrophotography and was immediately discouraged upon receiving it and fiddling. However... It * does * work with the Sigma 18-200mm lens. Be aware that you must be extremely careful because you cannot fully retract the lens and "Lock" it in place.
You may not be able to seat other Sigma lenses onto the 2x due to the depth of the internal condensor.

Nikon TC-E15ED Tele-Converter Lens Review

(More customer reviews)The item does extend the zoom range. (But, one has to purchase the adapter separately to use it at all. It's not expensive, but it should come as a package since the lens is useless without it!)
It comes with caps for both ends. However, the adapter has to come off to use the one for that end of the lens. The cap does not fit the camera end of the adapter. Either you take it apart - which leaves you with a piece capable of scratching other things - or leave the end open. The bag provided does accomadate the two pieces and offers some protection from scratches, but not dust.
Attaching it is easy enough. But, having to do a quick change from normal to the telephoto or vica-versa is not amoung it's virtues. Of course, some of this has to do with the menues of the camera, since one has to change the lens setting too. Resign yourself to just shooting for distance, or carry a second camera to avoid missing an opportunity wihtin normal range. You KNOW how uncooperative wildlife can be!
Most focusing is done by the camera's autofocus. You can do
some general range-finding with the camea's zoom control. Then it's up to the camera. Having the menues set for the correct white balance and focus options is also important because it helps the autofocus.
In short, it does the job as long as one knows how to use all the camera's options to assist.

Kenko 2X Teleplus - 7 Element DG- Nikon Auto Focus Review

(More customer reviews)Like many an amateur photographer, looking appreciativly at the work of professional wildlife and sports photographers, I had long lusted for the "reach" afforded them by their plus-300mm optics. But not professionally selling my pictures made it economically prohibitive to even consider purchasing anything longer than my Nikkor AF 300 f4.0.
Enter the Kenko Teleplus Pro. For the cost of the converter I now had a 420mm f5.6 AF with no appreciable loss in image quality even shot wide open on my F100. On my D100 the additional 1.5 magnification factor afforded by the sensor size now means I had a 630mm f5.6 AF combination and, since I was only using the central portion of the lenses projected circle, a very sharp optic. This combination has proved to be a real winner for me with AF function preserved (albeit slow) on both bodies (this is the older non-DG model that I have).
Teleconverters are real compromises however, more so I think than any other type of optic. Consequently, when buying one you should really have a specific lens/converter combination in mind and then test out the results.
In general, the Kenko is a professional piece of equipment. Well constructed and with good performance if used within it's design limits

This is a wonderful doubler for your lens, but before you get it there are few things you need to know.
I am using this with my Nikon D-3000. This doubler needs sunlight. Period! If you use it ouddoors in full sun, the autofocus works perfectly.
You can turn your lens to manual to focus when it refuses to do it on it's own and it will still take great shots.
Such cases for me have been... fluorescent lighting (actually any indoor lighting I have tried it on) and very cloudy days.
Make sure it is on a tripod during these manual focus times, because the shutter speed is reduced and doing it hand-held (for me) caused motion blur.
My main use for this is outdoor wildlife photography and it is absolutely what I needed. On a sunny day this week, I actually captured a Red Tailed Hawk gliding
through the air about 100 meters away and you can see every detail of the bird.
No complaints from me on this product.

(More customer reviews)I was pleased with the purchase and delivery process. Regarding the product, I have used it only a couple of times and it is too early to tell. I had mixed success, but it takes getting use to and a lot of patience. It should only be used when you have the time to focus slowly to get the distance you seek. It is not a magic silver bullet solution for increasing focal distance and you need plenty of light. However, I understood the limitations going in. It just is another tool in your arsenal to enjoy and experiment with.

(More customer reviews)I use the TC-20E II with a 400mm f2.8 ED IF AF-S, and it's superb. I was concerned whether there would be a reduction in sharpness, and perhaps there is a touch (but perhaps that's also a product of shooting at 800mm and ANY camera shake being noticeable), but this 2x converter is much sharper than the TC-14E 1.4x I also own. Yes, these newer converters must be used with the newer lenses, as others have mentioned.

Nikon TC-E2 2X Teleconverter Lens for Nikon 4300, 4500 & 5000 Digital Cameras Review

(More customer reviews)Don't expect to be able to capture the stitching on a football during mid-catch from the sidelines with this, but it does exactly what it advertises, magnifying the normal lens by 2x. The caveats are important though: it renders the built-in flash useless, but more importantly, it renders the viewfinder useless as well. This makes taking pictures of moving objects especially difficult, as you need to watch them on the LCD screen. (try doing this in bright sunlight for a real challenge) If your photo requirements are just a little more zoom than default, and you're taking mostly photos of static objects, this lens should perform perfectly for you. Just be aware of its limitations.

Nikon TC-14E II (1.4x) Teleconverter AF-S for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Review

(More customer reviews)I have used both the TC-17E II and this one, the TC-14E II. This one multiplies the reach of a zoom lens by only 1.4. There are two other Nikon teleconverters in this series, the TC-17E II (1.7 multiplier) and the TC-20E II (2.0 times multiplier). The "E II" series of teleconverters is only suitable for certain Nikon lenses--check the Nikon website for compatability. I purchased this teleconverter for use with the 70-200VR F/2.8 lens, with which it is quite compatible.
All teleconverters introduce at least a theoretical degradation in image quality in exchange for the extra reach; the extent of this can range from the unnoticeable to the significant. The TC-14E II does not degrade the images from the 70-200VR to any perceptible extent. Even when shooting with wide aperture settings this teleconverter does not appear to introduce any noticeable decrease in lens image quality. Further, it only lowers the light sensitivity of a lens by one F Stop. This means that a 2.8 lens will become a 3.8 lens when using this teleconverter--still pretty fast. The TC-14E II is noticeably sharper than the TC-17E II in lower light conditions requiring wider apertures (at the cost of less "reach" or magnification). I have been extremely impressed with the combination of the TC-14E II and the Nikon 70-200VR. The magnification is significant, and the decrease in image quality is undetectable.
Most Nikon afficianados seem to think that the 17E II is the best compromise between not too much image degradation and significant magnification, and I am inclined to agree with this, generally. The charm of the 14E is that it really does appear not to exact any appreciable price in terms of image quality, and it is the only teleconverter I have ever used (or heard of) of which this can be said. The qualities of the 14E II become evident when shooting in low light conditions, such as early morning wildlife shots. When shooting flying birds, for instance, this TC is particularly useful, because it allows wider apertures, which may be required to allow the photographer to use faster shutter speeds to "freeze" the subjects and avoid motion blur. Under such conditions, one appreciates the special qualities of the TC-14E II.
Highly recommended.

Nikon TC-20E III AF-S 2x Teleconverter Review

(More customer reviews)I have paired this with the 70-200mm VR II on a D700 and am so far very impressed with the performance. There is some loss of sharpness, but it retains detail far more than I was expecting, and it is much, much, much better than the TC-20E II. Given that the III is also smaller and lighter makes it well worth the extra money in my book. AF with this combination is still fast and sure, about on par with the 70-300mm VR if not a bit snappier and with less hunting, and is fast enough for sports in daylight. I was also surprised by how well the bokeh holds up; there are some weird effects due the TC, but the bokeh (at least on the 70-200mm VR II) still maintains a creamy quality and the artifacts are not as distracting as they are with the previous generation TC's.
It is the only 2x teleconverter I would consider using on the 70-200 (the TC-20E II made everything too mushy). On an FX body, this combination is a very viable alternative to 200-400mm VR if the latter is just too expensive for your budget, too heavy to be practical, or both, particularly if conditions allow you to shoot at f/8 through f/16.

(More customer reviews)This is new DGX model of the popular Kenko 1.4x Pro series teleconverter. The main difference between DG and DGX is DG doesn't correct aperture of the lens and DGX does. For example, Tamron 70-200mm has wide open f2.8 aperture that reduces to f4.0 when used with 1.4x teleconverter. DG version would still show you f2.8 and new DGX will display correct number f4.0. Otherwise, both DG and DGX models are the same.
Your mileage may very depends on the lens and camera body you use. Most cameras have problems focusing with lens that have less then f5.6 aperture. Any 1.4x teleconverter loose 1 stop of light. If you want to extend reach of slow lens (f5.6 and less) be prepared to loose or reduce auto-focus functionality. It doesn't depend on teleconverters - so don't blame them!
I used Kenko 1.4 PRO 300 DGX on Nikon D300 with Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 lens. Kenko works exactly as it suppose to: image quality reduction is minimal, fits fine, metering exposure is unaffected with no extra compensation required. It definitely deserves high recommendations.

Kenko AF 1.4x Super High Quality Teleplus converter also has genuine Gated Array IC and is compact for light weight and easy handling. Full AF is capable with lenses having a maximum aperture of F/4.5 or brighter. (Manual focusing will be required with lenses of smaller aperture.)Placed between the camera body and lens, a teleconverter contains a set of optics that will effectively increase the focal length of a lens by a specific amount. Common magnifications are 1.4 times and 2 times, but the Kenko teleplus PRO 300 AF converter has a 3x magnification. For example, using a 2 times (2x) teleconverter will increase the focal of 300mm lens to 600mm. The Teleplus PRO 300 converters are made with high quality multi-coated optical glass supplied by Hoya Corporation, the worlds largest manufacturer of optical glass. These glass elements aredesigned to match the optical quality of the prime lens (even at the edges) and telephoto zoom lenses. The optical design of the elements and light path is wide enough not to cause vignetting. The PRO 300 family is designed specifically to be used with prime telephoto lenses of 100mm or above, such as, a 300 mm f/2.8 lens, and work best with telephoto lenses of 200mm to 500mm. The PRO 300 can be used with telephoto zoom lenses as well as prime lenses. However, Kenko does not recommend them for zoom lenses that have a range starting under 50 mm.
