But it is what it is.
For my set-up, it must be used manually since the Sony lens is f/4. This was clearly stated in the ad, but I'll still hold that last star to make room for a converter in the same price range that can be used in auto mode.

(More customer reviews)Of course you're not going to get a Nikon quality lens or teleconverter of high quality for an item this cheap, but if you have, say, a 200mm and want that extra range on occasion, this item will do fine provided you have good light conditions. I don't see the point in buying a $400 accessory that you use maybe twice a year, so if you are a nature photographer or sports photographer, this isn't for you, but for photographers who might want to photograph their local sports team or do some photo taking while hiking and not in need of professional, stock quality images, this will suit the bill. And carrying it in your camera bag won't make you as nervous about cracking the glass as would a high priced item.

Placed between the camera body and lens, a teleconverter contains a set of optics that will effectively increase the focal length of a lens by a factor of 1.4 times. Pro-optic converters are made with high quality multi coated optics and designed to electronically operate with the camera contacts. Designed specifically to be used with prime or zoom lenses of 100mm or above. 1.4 will increase a 300mm into 420mm and will decrease the lens with 1 f/stop. Focusing manually is recommended when using a lens with a f/stop of f4 or slower. Longer exposures will require a tripod for stabilization

(More customer reviews)This teleconverter really zoomed in my pictures! Took pics of baby eagles, and horses running! But, you REALLY need steady hands or a tripod, if you are adding it to an already long lens (as I did)--otherwise, things will be blurry. I am glad that I purchased it!

The PRO 300 3x is an auto-exposure, manualfocus converter designed for use with lenses of 50mm or above and work best with telephoto lenses of 100mm to 500mm. The PRO 300 3.0x can be used with telephoto zoom lenses as well as prime lenses. However, Kenko does not recommend them for lenses that have a zoom range that starts under 50 mm.

(More customer reviews)I was pleased with the purchase and delivery process. Regarding the product, I have used it only a couple of times and it is too early to tell. I had mixed success, but it takes getting use to and a lot of patience. It should only be used when you have the time to focus slowly to get the distance you seek. It is not a magic silver bullet solution for increasing focal distance and you need plenty of light. However, I understood the limitations going in. It just is another tool in your arsenal to enjoy and experiment with.
