(More customer reviews)The scope is an excellent product. The optics are as clear as a scope that cost three times as much. I've been using NcStar products for nearly two years now for various sporting arms. They are not on the same scale as Leopold, or Steiner, but they are far below in price.
The light gathering is excellent with the 30mm tube. Twilight shooting is well within the capabilities of this scope. In addition, the rings, tools and an extra battery, came as part of the package.
They are equal to or better than anything currently made by Bushnell, Tasco, Weaver, or Simmons. Their optics are nearly on par with Nikon.
So you do get a good value for your money.

The Eliminator has alot of drop compasating points (not just 5 like their website makes it look like). Also it does not range less than 25 yards (Which you really shouldn't need anyway). Very easy mounting with rail attached to scope slotted on the rear mount and non-slotted on front. The scope was not as big as it appeared in pictures.

Sure they are a little bigger and heavier than similar powered scopes from other manufacturers, but the glass is superb. Extremely bright and clear, what more could you ask for at this price point? They are also quite durrible, 10,000 rounds of .375 H&H is no laughing matter... In my opinion, these are clearer and brighter than the Leupolds in the same price range.

Alpen 18-36-60 spotting scope Kit Review

(More customer reviews)Recently returned from a week in Yellowstone NP where I watched 4 grizzlies, 13 wolves, countless bison and elk with this scope. Although I was surrounded by folks who had spent hundreds more on their scopes, I was excited to discover no real difference between this scope and the nikon, bushnell, telestron, etc. that they had and my Alpen. I was watching animals from distances between a mile and a few hundred feet and was never disappointed. Even in winds of 30-40 mph I was able to keep the animals in focus at a mile away.(Don't forget to brace your tripod in any wind!) I use this scope on a Slik U9000 tripod and backpack with it. The hardcase is an added bonus for traveling with it. A great value!

How a Laser Rangefinder Works Bushnell's Yardage Pro rangefinders use an invisible, eye-safe Class 1 Laser beam (as classified by the FDA) which is "bounced" off distant objects with the press of a button. Then, the rangefinder's high-speed digital clock measures the time it took for a laser beam to reach a target and return to the unit. Next, using advanced digital electronics, the rangefinder instantly calculates the distance within ±1 yard and shows the range in either yards or meters on a through-the-lens LCD Display. I had done a lot of research to find out what was the best scope for the money, and I can say for sure this it it. I was recommended to it by a police sharpshooter. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a mid priced scope that needs rugged, durable, great view, cross hairs that go back exactly to where you want them, adaptable, target or hunting scope. Spend a little more for the mil-dot, you won't regret it. Like I said great so far, can't wait to actually use it.

(More customer reviews)Solid construction. Image is bright and resolution excellent at 20mm to roughly 40mm, falls off from that point on but is still decent at 60mm. Eye relief is good, but I wish the rotating eye cups had detents that would hold them in place at various extensions. I'm used to ring-type focusing mechanisms, such as those on DSLR camera lenses, so it took me a while to get used to using the Alpen's focusing knob. It isn't as fast as a focusing ring, but once I got accustomed to it, I found focusing to be easy and precise. Plus, unlike a ring focusing mechanism, it is easy to use with a soft support, such as a bean bag. This is a big scope, so you really need something solid on which to mount it. The table-top tripod that comes with the scope is usable in circumstances where you have a reasonably flat surface on which to place it, but if you're in the field you'll probably need a full-size tripod. (I haven't tried it on a monopod.) One nice feature is the rotating tripod ring, which allows you to rotate the body of the scope without changing the aiming point. Obviously, top end scopes from Swarovski and Leica will outperform this scope, particularly at the far end of the zoom range. But then, those scopes cost on the order of 7-8 times as much. This may be the best scope at its price point, and other reviewers have noted that it outperforms some "big name" scopes that cost 2-3 times as much.

(More customer reviews)2010 April(ish) - This was the second product purchased as "new" inside a month which was obviously handled although do not think it was mounted. It had surface dust on the scope and the box was worn as if it was a demo. But all that was not the primary issue ... the eye lens had a 1-2mm diameter piece of coating missing near at the center of the eye optic and there was dust inside the scope seen through the eye ocular. Although the scope was very disappointing (returned) I found Amazon to be awesome by paying for return shipping with a fast refund. So I do not hold Amazon accountable for this ... I do hold the company that supplied Amazon with this products unacceptable condition.
2010 October 27 - Update. So I waited several months and concluded that the best price is still from Amazon. In spite of my previous experience I decided to give it a third try and ordered this scope again. It would seem three times a charm ... the scope was new and immaculate. I have mounted it, bore scoped and range sited this past weekend. I love this scope. I have had several eye surgery's and although I am 20-20 I lack contrast and it is worse under low light conditions ... this scope has what I need to have the brightest and sharpest image. I am revising my rating from 2 to a 5. Thanks Amazon for resolving the previous issues with the previous product supplier(s).
