(More customer reviews)This optic was recommended to me by a fellow competitor. I needed a smaller scope than my high dollar 82mm. It is very good for the money and has excellent eye relief.

Alpen 18-36-60 spotting scope Kit Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Recently returned from a week in Yellowstone NP where I watched 4 grizzlies, 13 wolves, countless bison and elk with this scope. Although I was surrounded by folks who had spent hundreds more on their scopes, I was excited to discover no real difference between this scope and the nikon, bushnell, telestron, etc. that they had and my Alpen. I was watching animals from distances between a mile and a few hundred feet and was never disappointed. Even in winds of 30-40 mph I was able to keep the animals in focus at a mile away.(Don't forget to brace your tripod in any wind!) I use this scope on a Slik U9000 tripod and backpack with it. The hardcase is an added bonus for traveling with it. A great value!

Alpen 20x50 Waterproof Mini-Spotting Scope Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)What a pleasant surprise. For years, I've watched other guys lug around these bulky, 5 to 10-pound spotting scopes in suitcases so they can see if their bullets hit the bullseye at 100yds. After reading a few positive reviews, I opted to give this pint-size scope a try. It is a definite winner! It focuses easily and is as clear as any scope I've ever used. It is a straight view as opposed to the scopes with eye pieces that angle upward toward the eye. This product is a rare combination of bargain price and quality. The tripod is also good quality. This scope comes with a nylon carrying case that fits nicely into the side pocket, end up, of my SMALL range bag - and it only takes up half of the pocket at that. I hang my ear protectors over the portion sticking up. This way you don't have to start unzipping and digging into your bag for ear protectors (MANDATORY) before entering an indoor range. It weighs less than one box of some ammunition or a brick of .22LR.

Alpen 15-45x60 w/45 deg. eye piece, wtrpf Spotting Scope Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)First, don't be fooled by the product image now offered by Amazon; this is indeed the model 728 with 45-degree eyepiece; Amazon pictures the similar model 725 with straight-through viewing. I use a spotting scope for birding, and I've been quite content with my trusty Bushnell Spacemaster (vintage 1992). But in preparation for a vacation that involves international airline flight I wanted a lightweight alternative. If I had unlimited financial resources I might have considered a few of the big-ticket products with impressive reviews, but money IS an object. But so is quality, and I knew I wanted a BAK-4 prism, multi-coated lenses (of course I would have preferred fully multi-coated), waterproof construction, compact design, light weight, and reasonably good close focus. The Alpen 728 specifications looked good, and I took a chance. I'm glad I did. This scope weighs less than two pounds, is quite compact, has a nice retractable sunshade, and delivers very good optical performance (especially when used in the range from 15X to about 30X). Light transmission is quite satisfactory below 30X, as is color rendition. I get a good sharp image. I can focus to less than 25 feet. The 18mm eye relief at 15X is quite sufficient for those of us who wear glasses, and even at 45X (with 15mm eye relief) it's still usable. The 45-degree eyepiece does facilitate shared viewing, and perhaps most importantly allows the use of a shorter tripod. I even like the threaded eyepiece cover. The cloth case is a nice touch; I'm not sure I'll ever use the tabletop tripod, but it looks like it would work for those who do use such a support. I'm not sure that sentiment will permit me me to replace the Spacemaster as my primary birding scope, but I feel quite confident that the Alpen 728 will see its share of use, even when airline travel isn't involved.

MINOX MD 50 W 16-30x Waterproof Spotting Scope Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I debated long and hard about whether I wanted to spend $349 for this spotter, vs. $124 for a comparably sized Brunton Echo. Since I love German engineering, and because this scope offered an angled eyepiece (an important feature for me), I went with the Minox. My decison was validated the moment I removed it from the padded carrying case. The scope is hefty for its size. It has a wonderful solid feel to it and operation of the focus ring, power selector and extending rubber eyecup all convey a sense of quality and precision. The optics are bright, super clear, with excellent contrast -- what one would expect from lenses ground in Wetzlar. I see no distortion at any power and the scope can resolve small details at 100 yards with no difficulty. I was delighted to find that the scope also focused down to very close objects @ 10 feet distance. I mated it to a Slik Mini Pro V tripod and the two are an unbeatable combination. If you want a quality optical instrument in a convenient size, this is the scope for you. Bravo Minox!

Nikon 8358 Monarch Gold Laser1200 Rangefinder Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Just used this Nikon LR1200 today for the first time. Specific likes:
- well made, compact size fits easily in my golf bag- no larger than my open hand; made by Nikon, who know something about optics...what more could you want?
- waterproof construction- Nikon claims you can old it under 5' of water for 5 minutes without damage.
- easy to use; 1 button point and shoot.
- I have the co-branded Calloway unit, which comes with a nifty little pouch that slips around the unit to protect it and has cover to protect front optics. Lacks one for the rear eyepiece but I found that a soda cap fits perfect.
- Image is clear and sharp; 7x optics quickly pick up distant objects; worked well on the white pin flags at a local course. Quickly picked up a flag at 525 yds! Zeroed in on a truck at 735 yds. Pins within 250 yds easily detected.
- unit allows you to "pan" your field and will display the closest object first. Very neat when you need to resolve a pin flag with a bunch of trees in the background.
- the optics have a diopter adjustment to compensate for vision.
- the battery compartment is very secure. (screw on cover with o-ring, that you can tighten/loosen with a coin
- after some on-line searches, picked it up new for $289, free shipping and no-tax... Great buy; compared to the $400+++ Bushnell 1500/1600 units.
- tried a Bushnell 550 before this... dont even bother thinking about using their 4x model... not suited for golf. And read reviews on some of the other Bushnell units before you buy.
- based on my two experiences, this LR1200 wont disappoint;
- hopes this helps; I am a real hacker (bogey golf) and was disappointed when I went searching for reviews.
