Nikon DK-5 Eyepiece Cap for Nikon D200, D70S and D50 Digital SLR Cameras Review

(More customer reviews)I have two of these; one came with my older D70 and one came with my new D300. I have found these handy for use during either long exposures or while using the self-timer to keep light from entering through the eyepiece and affecting the auto-metering. I've heard that some people use them to cover the eyepiece during transport or while storing the camera for a while, but I find that keeping my camera in its bag between use is effective for that.
As for keeping up with it, Nikon designed it with a clip on the opposite side which is handy for attaching the cover to my camera strap in a relatively out-of-the-way place until an occasional shot calls for it. The clip is fairly strong, so it wouldn't be terribly easy to knock it off by accident (which also makes it a bit of a pain to attach it to the strap in the first place).

(More customer reviews)I have a Nikon D40 and lost the original. This one doesn't seem to fit all the way in, so there is a bit of a gap between the end of the cap and the back metal clip of the hotshoe. I might try to shave it a bit with a knife, but I am disappointed it doesn't go to the edge and dust could still get in.
Update ... I found my original cap and they look the same at simple inspection, BUT ... the original says Nikon BS-1, while this one doesn't say anything, so it is definitely not manufactured by Nikon. By visual inspection it's almost impossible to tell why this one doesn't fit well. It seems like the stops under the cap are not quite the same height or position, but it is not by much. Just enough to not let the cap go in all the way. I am glad I found my cap, although after I bought this one. The price is not too bad (considering that it is less than a nikel worth of plastic) but the shipping is ridiculous (over $6 for something that will not add weight to a regular letter) ... this is a lot to pay for a small piece of plastic that "doesn't quite fit".

This is the original part replacement. If you own the 18-200mm VR or a Nikon lens w/ a 72mm thread, get one of these as a back-up along with a lens cap leash.

Hoodman H-CAPD3 Nikon D3 Hood Cap Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using a D3 for almost a year and noticed a few very fine scratches on the tempered glass LCD monitor viewscreen. Recently I bought one of these Hoodman covers for my D3. After using it for about a month I have one long fine scratch on it. If that saved the tempered glass from such a fate, it was well worth the expenditure. One tip: I tried removing the cover and could not do so (I was concerned that it might break if I forced it further). I got a fine, flat screwdriver and, with a slight twist, was easily able to remove the cover by doing so.
