This lens is decent. It's good for cheap. It's really heavy, and built really well. But I don't think it's as high quality as the more expensive lens for High Definition video. We'll see if I even continue to use it because it is so heavy. But a wide angle is pretty important for certain shots.

This is unfortunately not a ultra thin filter with a thin filter ring. This is just a regular Skylight 1b filter. This is totally misleading. I am surprised Adorama is doing it. Got mine and no difference from my existing one :( and no mention of thin or ultra-thin in the box of the filter or the filter itself.

Reduces the excessive bluishness that frequently occurs in outdoor color photography, especially in open shade under a clear, blue sky.The absorption peak is in the range which corresponds to the film's green spectrum. This means outstanding outdoor shots with superb color balance and clarity under all conditions. Also keeps skin tones free of colored reflections from nearby objects such as the shade of trees

Wherein this was a quality filter for my Nikon 18-200 lens, after two weeks, the glass fell out of the rim. Just fell out while changing filters. What was an important component to my photography, and camera protection, is now an expensive piece of trash. As a replacement, I went with a different brand. I guess when the packaging says, "professional filter series," it means that "professionals" have enough money to purchase replacements when their equipment goes prematurely south. I can only hope my filter was a fluke and Quantaray does not have serious quality control issues. But like I said, it was a nice filter when it was in one piece.

Hoya Moose - Filter - warm circular polarizer - 72 mm Review

Hoya Moose - Filter - warm circular polarizer - 72 mm

This is a great filter for taking outdoor photographs. You really need a Circular Polarizing Filter (CPL) for outdoors, but CPL's tend to cool down the colors. This filter is a CPL made from 81A glass so it's like having a CPL and a warmer in one filter. The 81A glass compensates for the cooling of the polarizer.

Collaboration between respected wildlife photographer and conservationist B. Moose Peterson of Wildlife Research Photography and THK Photo Products, Inc., has created a circular polarizing filter that uses 81A optical glass made by Hoya, the worlds largest optical glass manufacturer, instead of the clear optical glass of a normal circular polarizer. When using a camera with a split beam metering system (a metering system that employs a polarized half mirror) which is most of today's auto focus camera bodies, traditional linear polarizers will cause exposure errors do to their light absorption properties. Circular polarizers yield the same optical effect while not causing exposure problems with modern metering systems. For many years, polarizers have been used to remove reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water and glass as well as being used to darken blue skies to increase contrast in scenic photography. A side effect of both linear and circular polarizes is they "cool down" or make the over-all color balance of a scene slightly bluish. The addition of the 81A glass corrects the color temperature, bringing the scene back to the original 5500K for daylight film's color balance. The 81A glass creates a much more pleasing and "warm" color balance to the entire scene while the circular polarizer increases color contrast and reduces the effect of atmospheric haze.

I have been pleasantly satisfied with this filter. Not only has it severed as great polarizer, but it has worked superbly as a neutral density filter when slower speeds were important while capturing the softness of a water fall. Hoya still has a very good performance for the price.

Light rays which are reflected by any surface can become polarised so polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. CIRCULAR PL filters allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot.Using the CIRCULAR PL filter, reflections and glare can be reduced significantly from non-metallic surfaces. A camera angle of 30 degrees from the reflecting surface (glass, water, etc.) is ideal for maximum effect.

After debating between Hoya & B+W, I ended up w/ the Hoya HD CP; and I am very glad that I did. The B+W Slims have no front threads, so it difficult to keep the front lid on.
As some testing reviews mention, the new HD CP are very thin, durable and let more light in than any other CP I have seen. Now I can keep my filter on, even when shooting indoors w/ no problem. I am quite impressed. Very expensive, but I found them online for half the price, from a reputable dealer. Maxsaver.

Opteka 72mm Screw-in Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood / Shade Review

This Opteka 72mm Screw-in Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood sounds like a good idea - as a replacement for the more solid original Nikon lens hood. However it is quite a disappointing product. While as a stand-alone object it is rather well made, it does not function well enough as a lens hood. It tends to slip out of the lens; with Nikon's 18-200mm lens it leads to vignetting (even when it is fully collapsed) - and this is usually not always visible through the lens; this may occur with a certain zoom length, but I have not systematically researched this; lastly when the camera sits on the table the rubber gets squashed and then when you come to use the camera - the hood does not form a regular circle - perhaps contributing to the vignetting effect. I am back to the original hood.

Opteka rubber lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Olympus E 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 Zuiko Lens for Olympus Digital SLR Cameras Review

Olympus E 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 Zuiko Lens for Olympus Digital SLR Cameras
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
Very Small, Very Light, fits easily in a jacket pocket
Ultra-wide angle is very useful
Image stabilization available on-camera
Noticeably better construction than my other Olympus standard grade lenses
Wide filter ring prevents vignetting (use just one filter)
Good image quality, except for:
Cons:
Barrel distortion at wide end (correctable in Photoshop)
Last few pixels not quite as "sharp" as center
Practice required to keep horizon level, not create weird perspective
Construction not as good as Olympus "pro" lenses
There are wider lenses for other brands (that weigh 2x more... hehehe.)
There are better ultrawide zoom lenses (in the $1500 range... haHaHA!)
My stuff for reference: E-410, 9-18mm, 25mm pancake, 35mm macro, 40-150mm (small), 14-54mm, 70-300mm (14-42mm and 18-180mm lenses sold)
I bought the Olympus system to get great image quality at a small size and price, I wouldn't have if not for rumors of this lens. When it was announced it seemed better than I hoped! I bought it early for a trip to China (I normally wait for the price to drop), it is a good thing I did, because I used the 9-18mm about 70% of the time! I also took the 14-54mm and the 40-150mm kit lens, thus making a small, quality, versatile package that I always carried in my pockets and hand/neck.
The 9-18 is ideal for travel, it fits in a pocket or can be carried attached to your camera all day and not be tiring. More importantly, when you get to touristy places, you can stand very close to your subject (if you don't mind the perspective), thus you will be in other people's photos, rather than them being in yours! Plus, there are a surprising number of subjects that can only be photographed whole or with no obstructions with an ultra-wide angle lens. Great for "spy" pictures of people who think you are pointing the camera somewhere else. And, you can lower shutter speeds to 1/20s and still have sharp pictures, a huge benefit for cameras with no IS. Imagine what it would be like on a camera with IS!
Image quality is good, but there is noticeable barrel distortion towards 9mm. Otherwise I would say IQ is between the 14-54 and 40-150, but closer to the 14-54. Lens flare was not a big problem for me, but more than my 14-54 (and I like placing the sun in the frame). Keeping the lens clean helps a lot with flare. Contrast (something I like) is much better than the 40-150, but not as good as the 14-54mm. Chromatic aberration happens, and is slightly worse towards the edges, but is not too bad. Sharpness I am less attuned to because all Olympus lenses are sharp and I rarely view the corners of my pictures full size, but it is sharp from f/4 to ~f/10, about/nearly as good as the 14-54mm. The 14-54 seems to experience less corner variation from f/2.8 to f/8 than this lens from f/4 to f/8, but this is a very minor consideration.
Other thoughts: construction quality is better than my other Olympus standard grade lenses, including texturing on the whole exterior and a less plasticky sound when you hit the limits of the zoom range. Zoom travel is very short and is of the out-in-out variety. I now think my 14-54mm is too big, and got the 25mm pancake to anchor the gap between the 9-18mm and 40-150mm. With the 9-18mm, 40-150mm and any of the you will have a small yet extraordinary setup with the E-420, E-520, or E-620. Alternatively, use the 9-18mm, 35mm macro, and 70-300mm for landcapes/macro/wildlife. You will see many tourists walking past with a Nikon D300 or Canon 50D and a large lens, that weigh more than your camera and three lenses together despite having less zoom and smaller aperture. You will wonder what delusion they are under that they think they are making better pictures (of the same thing)!
Update: I returned to China for a longer stay, and have been using the 14-18mm range quite a bit to take pictures of people around town. I am glad that the good image quality occurs across the zoom range. I have found that this lens is now the anchor of my small lens collection. Things I notice even more after a few months are, the 9-18 is contrastier than the 40-150mm, and the construction quality is far higher than the 40-150mm or other standard grade lenses (except the 25mm pancake?). My 40-150 has a quite a few nicks in it. The 9-18 has just 3 hairline scratches which are difficult to see even on close examination.
Update #2: After a year and a half this lens has become widely traveled and I am getting better at using it with time. I have never had a complaint about the final image quality of pictures with this lens. The only complaint I ever had is barrel distortion, because I hate fixing it in Photoshop. Contrast still doesn't equal the 14-54, but that never seems to matter. It is still holding together perfectly, showing no signs of abuse, even though I have sometimes abused it (in a wide variety of ways).

The filters did the job that could be expected for the low cost. They are a good value for someone that is looking for their first set of lens filters but are not ready to spend top dollar for higher quality filters. The polarized and uv filters worked great with little or no change to the quality of the pictures while using either.

FILTER UV: Protects your camera's lens from scratches, dust, dirt, moisture, and fingerprints, while reducing unwanted ulra-violet light. FILTER FD: The F-DL fluorescent light correction filter gives true-to-life color rendition by removing the harsh yellow-green cast ordinarily resulting from fluorescent bulbs. When shooting under natural light, a fluorescent filter dramatically increases color satruation of subjects. FILTER PL: Polarizers let you acheive vibrant color saturation, reduce or eliminate glare and reflections from non-metallic objects and glass surfaces, and minimize haze. The filter can be rotated to determine the amount of reflection to be removed. Lens filters are translucent pieces of glass placed in front of a camera lens to alter or adjust the light entering the camera, and more importantly to protect the camera lens. Lens filters improve photographs by giving you control over light and allowing you to emphasize the features of a scene that you consider most important. This filter kit is a combination of the three essential filters no photographer should be without.

It was very difficult to screw on my 28-135mm Canon, otherwise it does the job. I have not really shot too many pictures but from the first 50 shots, it seems fine. For the price you pay, you get what you pay for. That said, it's good for the price I paid. It protects my lens and does not affect image quality. I have a lens that fell out of my bag onto the sidewalk. This subsequently jammed my polarizing filter partially cockeyed onto the lens. This means that the threads were not lined up, and they were actually locking the filter onto the lens. I had tried everything I could think of to get the lens off. Since the lens still works, I just figured I'd have to live with the polarizing filter forever stuck on the lens. I ordered this set of wrenches, mostly because it was so cheap, and because I figured it would be a last ditch effort.
On my first try, the wrench did bend a little bit, so I stacked the other wrench next to it to give it a little more support. With a little elbow grease, about 30 seconds of trying later, the filter popped back into position with the threads and I was able to unscrew it.
I give this set of wrenches two big thumbs up. They absolutely worked.

If you think this is the strongest ND filter you can get, then it is wrong. DO NOT BUY THIS. This is only 3-stop and there are 9 or 10 stop filters available. Learn about ND filters before settling on one.
With this ND filter, you cannot take pictures of water falls in bright day light (even with smallest aperture (F22)). But if you want to take the same later in the day (around sunset), this will help you a lot. I took lots of pictures using this filter during my trip to Yosemite. I could take really nice waterfall motion (with 1 sec exposure during sunset) but all the pictures I took during day time were washed out...they all became too bright.
If you have a polarizing filter, you may stack on top of it (be careful with vignetting) to get more darkness.
The filter itself is very well built and I was able to easily screw/unscrew from the lens. I would put some more money to get more f-stop. I will post some sample pics I took soon.

Canon 72mm UV Haze Filter Review

Canon 72mm UV Haze Filter
Average Reviews:

I never take my UV filter off of my lens unless I am going to immediately put on a different filter. There are basically two camps out there, those that feel you should always use a UV filter to protect your lens from dirt and scratches and those that feel it is a waste of time and only degrades your image. Well, I tried going without one for awhile and then dirt started to build up on the front element of my very expense lens. And although you can clean the front element of a lens, I feel much, much safer wiping my comparatively cheap UV filter time and time again rather than chancing any actual lens damage. I think for the nearly unquantifiable loss in image quality you may suffer by having a UV filter on, it is well worth the extra piece of mind it gives me.

This is one of 3 circular polarizers that I own for my camera lenses. This filter works, but has a few flaws and drawbacks. For instance, while it will diminish the glare of windows, water and render LCD screens invisible, it does not remove all of that completely. With this filter turned to maximum effect, you can still make out reflections. Moreover, rather than making everything slightly darker, it also gives everything a bluish tint. While it may not be difficult to fix in post, it's annoying nonetheless.
I'd recommend another filter, such as those by Tiffen for the photographer on the cheap.
