(More customer reviews)I ordered this set of filters just before my vaction were I visited a few aquariums and such as well as just visiting family.
The quality is just GREAT. I did have to clean the lenses when I opened them as there was some factory film/protection oil on them. After cleaning them wow, picture quality was vastly improved.
I have the Canon S3 IS with the lens adapter to 58mm and This set was a perfect buy for me.
These filter easily attach to one another as well (incase you weren't sure of this).
The UV filter I keep on the lens adapter to protect the lense itself and it doesn't degrade indoor pictures at all!
Circular Polarized filter: The best feature is that it has a slightly wider ring so that it's easily seperated from the UV filter, You can also rotate the CPL filter while it's screwed on. It has an independant rotation from it's mounting base. Not entire sure as to why this is as it is a Circular PL filter but I'm sure there is a reason (I'm still learning as I'm sure the Vets are more than aware of).
Conclusion: Great filter set and I would recomment to anyone that is looking. I'll post some pictures once I get the time taken with each of the filters. I'll go out and do a rotation set (unfilter, uv, uv+cpl, pl) so that you can get a better idea as to how much the images are enhanced with these filters.

(More customer reviews)The bottom line first: This is the best polarizing filter out there for around 30 bucks or less.
I was looking for a polarizing filter for my S2 IS camera. And there are many filters out there at very cheap price. Some just around 15 bucks or less. And some are very expensive at several hundreds bucks for dSLR users. I didn't want to pay more than 50 bucks for a polarizing filter, but I didn't want to waste even a cent on a useless stuff. So I found this filter. It seemed to be a very good deal since it is a circular filter and it has warming effect. I bought it and I was impressed. All outdoor pictures look really good; the color is deep, water is clear, and clouds are all well shaped. Most nonmetal reflections was filtered out. You should remember that the best effect happens when your camera at 90 degree to the sun.
I doubt that those hundreds dollars filters will be much better than this one. They are certainly better but the difference must be very little in everyday pictures. If the professional one can filter out 99% of reflections, this polarizer must be able to filter out at least 96%.

(More customer reviews)Wherein this was a quality filter for my Nikon 18-200 lens, after two weeks, the glass fell out of the rim. Just fell out while changing filters. What was an important component to my photography, and camera protection, is now an expensive piece of trash. As a replacement, I went with a different brand. I guess when the packaging says, "professional filter series," it means that "professionals" have enough money to purchase replacements when their equipment goes prematurely south. I can only hope my filter was a fluke and Quantaray does not have serious quality control issues. But like I said, it was a nice filter when it was in one piece.

Tiffen 67mm Hot Mirror Filter Review

(More customer reviews)I own the 52mm version of this kit, and found it a shame to see this kit only received one star. Below is my review I wrote about the 52mm kit, I have recommended this kit (in several different sizes) to fellow photographers, they all have been very happy with their purchases, baring in mind Tiffen's quality control problems.
This is one of the best bargains that i've seen, "essentially" you get 3 filters for the price of one. The image quality with these filters is great, the 812 (warming) filter is by far a favorite giving back the color richness that flash photography so often washes out, that is unless you have the patience for constantly tweaking your flash power. Aside from the 812 the UV protector is basically a clear protective filter. While it obviously has advantages over clear glass, I tend not to think of it as any different. This too is a great filter which I use about half the time because it doesn't affect color hues or change f stop values too greatly while it takes the worry out of carrying the camera around ready for any candid shots that may occur. Finally included is the circular polarizer. This filter adjusts the amount of uv light entering the camera by spinning the filter to the direction the uv rays are entering (or turning the thingy till things look better). This lens is great for sunny days and will take surface glare off lakes and glass making them transparent again. It also makes colors more crisp in general when photographing buildings and other large "reflective" man-made things. So things sound great so far, but now to why I only give this item 4 stars. While Tiffen is known to be one of the best at photo and video filters, they have quality control issues that do no live up to thier reputation. In my case the 812 filter arrived with a discoloration in the glass. While it was didn't hurt image quality, with the flaw being towards the edge of the filter, I none the less didn't want to find a situation in which the flaw would diminish quality. Seeing as it was not amazon's fault my first e-mail went to Tiffen for a replacement which they said they would gladly do, but only after I send them the filter and they recieve it would they ship my replacement (not an option in my circumstances). Instead Amazon's wonderful customer service shown through again, and within 3 days they had replaced the entire set. The second set arrivided without flaw but since my other two filters were in perfect condition I traded just the 812. I havn't had any other issues and i'm very satisfied with my filters. The only other word of warning would be to that of the circular polorizer. While I recieved 2 that were flawless occassionally I have read in reviews customers have received ones that were assembled backwards making the lens useless. A quick way to check to see if your CP is working correctly is to hold it, thread facing yourself, and look at an LCD monitor or TV and spin it until the picture dissapears(obviously working correctly). I still wouldn't pass up this deal knowing what I do now, chances are everything will show up perfectly but none the less if you're concerned order it before you need it and check everything over carefully. Amazon is always the best for returns and will often ship a replacement the next day with overnight shipping.And a little further insight...
I was recently doing some black and white film photography, and decided to use my 812 warming filter as a protective lens as I was carrying 3 lenses with me. Just thought that I would mention that using this filter will produce a "White" sky in some outdoor photographs. The shots were taken with a gradient blue sky to which the entirety showed up white, even on bracketed sets, that should have shown something in one of the series. While itself was a interesting effect for some shots, it mostly just caused me frustration in the darkroom. I just wanted to add this as fair warning. I discovered this on accident, so I don't know if it applies to all sky conditions as I didn't do a lot B&W sky shots, I might test it using Photoshop later as I see they have the 812s effect built in. Anyways, good luck and have fun photoing.

Hoya 77mm RM-72 Infrared Filter Review

(More customer reviews)Ordered this 77 mm RM-72 filter (cutoff below 720 nm) to allow me to do digital IR photography without converting my DSLR camera. Most of my lenses have a 77 mm filter diameter, and smaller lens diameters can be easily used with this filter by adding a step-up ring. I recommend using this Hoya filter with an older DSLR camera which has a less rigid hot mirror filter cutting off IR wavelengths in front of the sensor. Necessary exposure times with the filter attached range between 5-20 seconds. The filter is well built and has a good screw-in thread. Highly recommended!

Less expensive filters are readily available, but do you really want them on these lenses? I do not, as image quality means too much to sacifice for somethimg as minute as the cost of a good filter. Thus far, these have done their respective jobs well; a later trip to the South Pacific will tell the eventual tale.

Hoya 62mm UV Filter Review

(More customer reviews)I have several Hoya filters for various lenses. This 86mm UV filter fit perfectly on my new Sigma 150-500mm zoom lens. With such a large surface on the front of the lens I didn't want to take a chance of scratching it or worse. The UV filter
protects the lens and provides added clarity to images. This is a high quality filter with mutliple coatings and a sturdy metal ring. It's worth the money.

Hoya 67mm RM-72 Infrared Filter Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this filter a couple years ago, after reading about digital infrared photography in several acticles and webpages. I have used it on a couple different zoom lenses and it works, after some fiddling and setup on the camera. You will not be able to just screw it on a lens and snap away. You will need at least a tripod, relatively long exposures and some post processing of the images but it's not that hard with all the free info available out there - just do an online search on "IR" or "infrared photography". This filter got me interested in IR enough that I just converted one of my old digital SLRs over to full time IR.

Hoya Moose - Filter - warm circular polarizer - 77 mm Review

(More customer reviews)Many people don't understand polarizing light, so they expect more from these filters than they can deliver. Polarizing filters depend upon the angle of the light essentially being at right angles to the axis of the camera lens. When used with a very wide angle lens, the likelihood of that light being at a uniform angle to the axis is about nil. As a result, when you look through the viewfinder, and rotate the filter, you should expect to see non-uniform darkening of the sky, when used with a wide angle lens. However, once the light hits trees, fields etc., it is scattered -- so the inconsistency of polarizing effect is much less pronounced. The issue is solely in sky. You may be able to reduce that effect by shooting at a different angle to the source of light (sun) - but that probably won't include the scene. Even if you fix the aperture and shutter speed, you can't shoot multi-image panoramas with a polarizing filter.
Other points: It will do very little at mid-day at times of year when the sun is dead above you. Or when the sky is overcast (although the Moose will warm the cold light of that day). Or when the sun is at your back.
Having said that, the Hoya Moose filter is the most satisfying I have used in nearly 50 years of photography. The warming effect is simply beautiful. I bought mine (62, 67 and 77mm) before a trip to New Mexico last winter, and whether shooting from the ride up to the Scandia Tramway or Ghost Ranch where Georgia O'Keefe painted, the results were consistently spectacular. I used it on a 17mm F3.5 Tokina ATX-Pro in the Southwest, and again in Israel, and whether shooting old rocks or old temples, the effect was a blow-away. I ordinarily detest putting a $70 piece of glass in front of a $700 lens, because the risk of inter-surface reflections cutting contrast is pronounced.* But when the light was right, that Moose was on the lens most of the day.
If you've never used a Moose, you will be astounded at how it can turn rather ordinary scenes into extraordinary. In environments like the Southwest, where pollution is minimal, the effect is to intensify edge sharpness. Texture, landscape tone, and general details will "pop" if the light is right for a polarizer. Just understand that, by blending an 81A with a polarizer, it will "warm" snow -- so be prepared to cool that down in digital postprocessing.
I just got a new 18-200mm Nikon VR lens, and debated whether I should get a new 72mm for it, or a cheaper adapter for my 77mm. I decided that to use the lens shade, I'd buy another Moose.

*Consider that, when you keep a skylight filter on your lens to "protect" it. It may "protect" you from getting getting the best deep-shadow detail your lens can deliver. And if your lens gets hit from the front, the filter shards will wipe out your lens, anyway...so use a lens shade to "protect" your lens from fingers and dirt.

Collaboration between respected wildlife photographer and conservationist B. Moose Peterson of Wildlife Research Photography and THK Photo Products, Inc., has created a circular polarizing filter that uses 81A optical glass made by Hoya, the worlds largest optical glass manufacturer, instead of the clear optical glass of a normal circular polarizer. When using a camera with a split beam metering system (a metering system that employs a polarized half mirror) which is most of today's auto focus camera bodies, traditional linear polarizers will cause exposure errors do to their light absorption properties. Circular polarizers yield the same optical effect while not causing exposure problems with modern metering systems. For many years, polarizers have been used to remove reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water and glass as well as being used to darken blue skies to increase contrast in scenic photography. A side effect of both linear and circular polarizes is they "cool down" or make the over-all color balance of a scene slightly bluish. The addition of the 81A glass corrects the color temperature, bringing the scene back to the original 5500K for daylight film's color balance. The 81A glass creates a much more pleasing and "warm" color balance to the entire scene while the circular polarizer increases color contrast and reduces the effect of atmospheric haze.
