After about a week with this camera, I really like it. I am a photographer and I needed a D-SLR, I wanted to start small, but not too small, and cheap. I did do a LOT of research before buying this. I would not recommend it if you need to take lots of fast consecutive shots, 2.5fps (frames per second) is not the fastest. Flash recovery time is a bit slow too. If you have large hands this camera might be strange too, the buttons have very little travel and are shallow and the grip is small. The menus and UI (user interface) are very very nice however. Easy to use and navigate. I really like this camera, it is basic, but has advanced features too. Color is pretty good, but for the best results you should play with the settings. Another plus is you can use Minolta lenses too. 18mm-55mm kit lens is pretty nice, 55mm-200mm is also very nice. Both are pretty light. Another thing is the shutter is kinda loud, not a huge down, but something to take note of. Also has a proprietary hot shoe (where you can attach an external flash) but you can buy an adapter online for about $5. The battery life is also pretty good. I really like it, and would recommend.

This is what it is, which is why I gave it 4 stars. It's not a professional lens, but it works perfect for everyday amateur use. Nice focal range 28-80 (equivalent 42-120). Reasonable for anything indoors or fairly close, works as a portrait lens and does well with landscapes and architecture. Great general usage lens and compact as well. The price is really remarkable. I have 8 lenses and this one gets the most use. I have it mounted to a Pentax K20D

By using aspherical elements in the front optical group, Tamron reduced the total number of elements required. They also used strong, engineered plastic for the barrel, making the total lens body only 8.4 ounces. These features make this lens extremely versatile and lightweight. Canon 72mm UV Haze Filter Review

Canon 72mm UV Haze Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I never take my UV filter off of my lens unless I am going to immediately put on a different filter. There are basically two camps out there, those that feel you should always use a UV filter to protect your lens from dirt and scratches and those that feel it is a waste of time and only degrades your image. Well, I tried going without one for awhile and then dirt started to build up on the front element of my very expense lens. And although you can clean the front element of a lens, I feel much, much safer wiping my comparatively cheap UV filter time and time again rather than chancing any actual lens damage. I think for the nearly unquantifiable loss in image quality you may suffer by having a UV filter on, it is well worth the extra piece of mind it gives me.

The Canon 72mm UV haze filter not only helps to protect your lens from dust, moisture and scratches, it also allows you to correct for UV effect and eliminate haze from your photos. This filter will absorb approximately 71 percent of UV rays, helping to eliminate haze's bluish cast that can obscure distant details. This filter easily screws onto your 72mm lenses.

UPDATE, July 11, 2010: The Canon rebate referred to below should just about be concluding as I write this, so you can read this review (and others) and decide whether this lens--at its regular price--is right for you. (Or you can wait for the next rebate program, but that may be a while from now.) Since the time when I wrote my initial review, I have come to regard this lens even more highly. It feels great on my Canon EOS Rebel T2i, and I had a recent experience with this lens that might interest you. My wife and I took a sightseeing train ride along the Arkansas River through some very picturesque parts of Colorado. There was an open-air observation car that was great for taking pictures; however, when the train was moving it was impossible to remain perfectly still, as the car swayed slightly (and unpredictably) from side to side. I thought about turning the image stabilization (IS) off completely, but decided to give it a try. It turns out the IS worked beautifully. One more thing: As the sun set, the canyons the train was climbing through were alternately drenched in glorious late-day sunlight or covered with shade. Given the rapidly changing light conditions and the train sway, it wasn't the easiest task to try to capture the gorgeous scenery, especially for an amateur like me, but the Canon EF-S 15 - 85mm f/3.5 - 5.6 IS lens turned out to be up to the task. I have no regrets.
REBATE ALERT: From May 9 through July 10, 2010, Canon is running an "instant" rebate program that includes this lens--at a considerable saving. The best part about an instant rebate is that it should be built into the price you see on Amazon (it was when I bought mine), so you don't have to mail in some form and wait (and hope) for a rebate to arrive weeks later. If this is the right lens for you (something we haven't established yet), then now may be a good time to pull the trigger on a purchase.
Regarding this lens, it is a considerable improvement from the typical kit lens on a digital SLR. Kit lenses are decent for the money you pay (which isn't much), but they have clear limitations, especially in sharpness. If you are reading this review, I assume you are looking for a lens for the general-purpose focal-length range, and the Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5 - 5.6 IS USM fits well into this category. The 15 - 85mm range is wider than most kit lenses (probably on both ends), which enables the photographer to use this lens for a wide variety of purposes. The build quality is quite good, though not up to "L" series lens standards. Of course, its price is also not up to L levels, either. Sharpness is very good. Frankly, I can't really tell the difference between this lens and L glass (but I'm just a humble layman), although professional photographers and serious amateurs probably can. Concerning qualities such as vignetting or chromatic aberration, I suggest you consult some of the many professional reviews on the web, which generally paint a good picture of this lens.
Okay, so should you buy this lens? That's the question I want to address with this review. If you do a lot of low light shooting, like weddings, this lens probably isn't fast enough for you. You can't always use a flash in a church. The Canon EF-S 17 - 55mm f/2.8 IS USM or the Canon EF 24 - 70mm f/2.8L USM may be better choices. Both of these lenses have what the EF-S doesn't--a much wider aperture. They also have higher price tags and a narrower focal length range. They are also heavier (especially the 24 - 70 L), which depending on how long you typically carry your camera around may mean something to you. Specifically, the 15 - 85mm weighs 20.3 ounces, while the 17 - 55mm weighs 22.8 oz, and the 24 - 70mm weighs a heftier 33.5 oz. For comparison, a Canon EOS Rebel T2i without any lens weighs only about 19 oz.
The 15 - 85mm lens is relatively new (2009), so it is built with the latest manufacturing technology. It features, for example, four-stop image stabilization, which is great. (Remember that image stabilization helps compensate for the unsteadiness of the photographer, but does nothing to stop the movement of your subject.) "Bokeh" (foreground/background blur quality) is very good. The lens is made of plastic, but its high-quality plastic, if that doesn't sound too oxymoronish.
In short, if you are looking for the absolutely finest general purpose lens that money can buy, this is not your lens. However, if what you want is a very noticeable step-up in sharpness from a kit lens, combined with a very convenient weight and four-stop image stabilization--and you don't want to fork over a great deal of money--then this lens merits your careful attention.

The price is great and the product is as well. I was a little worried since some reviews stated no attachment rings were including with thier order however I got two rings with my order that work on my lens.
I bought this product for the fish eye look of photos not for a wide angle lens like it also describes. I wouldn't be as happy if that was not the case.

I bought this lens to replace the kit lens that came with the Sony Alpha 300. I wanted an all-round lens so I wouldn't have to carry/change multiple lenses. I'm very happy with the results: excellent quality photo's, very easy to use because of the all-purpose 18-200 range.
Some observations:
- Although the lens doesn't feel overly heavy, if you point the camera down, the lens will "zoom in" due to gravity pulling it out. Understandable, but sometimes this feels clumsy. There is a zoom-lock switch btw.
- If you place the anti-direct-sunlight-cap-thingie backwards on the lens (to store it there), you cannot reach the manual focus ring anymore. Understandable, and documented, but still not practical.
Bottomline: very good buy, must-have if you choose to carry 1 lens max.

I purchased to use with my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K. This great camera has a body that's nearly impossible not to get fingerprints on the LCD. The DigiKlear worked great to clean the LCD. It's amazing how it's self-replenishing and cleans without the need for a spray cleaner or cloth. After using the DigiKlear, I covered the LCD with an Invisible Shield by Zagg which is the best screen protector I've found. The LensPen is also great and it is so much better than Nikon's Lens Pen. I haven't yet used the cleaning kit but I'm sure it will come in handy. I purchased this combination kit since it was cheaper than buying the items individually. I would have given it 5 stars if it had come with a small case to keep all the items organized. I suggest that they create a cloth case with pliable plastic pockets that rolls up such as a wrench set that has a string to bundle it up. But that might have made it more expensive. I'm hoping the Tamrac bag I ordered will be able to keep these items safe & organized for when I need to use them. The two pens would have cost much more to purchase individually so it's like getting the cleaning kit for free.

The LensPEN LP-1 Lens Cleaning System is the simple and effective way to clean your optics when they get dirty out in the field — before the dust, dust, and grime begin to build up, becoming more and more difficult to remove. This is how simple the LensPEN is to use: 1) Slide out the retractable brush, using it to remove any dust particles; 2) Remove the end cap to expose the cleaning pad; 3) Using a smooth, circular motion, wipe the lens surface with the unique flexible cleaning pad. If any smudges remain, just breathe gently on the lens and repeat the cleaning process. The unique cleaning compound will not spill or dry out and is both environmentally-friendly and non-toxic.

The LensPen DigiKlear DK-1 LCD Screen Cleaning System cleans the LCD screens on digital cameras and camcorders. A special triangular tip gives you the ability to clean all the way to the corners which would otherwise remain covered in dust and grime. The DigiKlear also works great on PDA's and cell phones.

I was hoping these filters would be a decent alternative to reverse lens macro or even extension tubes. The filters are just ok. Since you're adding a layer of glass with each filter, you're going to lose image quality and focus, but I feel like there is just too much lost with these. I still greatly prefer reverse lens macro or extension tubes...even though I don't like having to take my lenses off of my camera body so often.

According to a photo magazine, this is a cosmetically re-labelled Konica Minolta 75-300 (D) zoom telephoto, which is a lens that I own (it certainly looks exactly the same as the KM 75-300 lens, but with the 'Sony' name). In which case, I have the following review:
(1) Excellent construction quality, this is a very nicely made lens, excellent finish, not too heavy but solid and without the 'plastic' feel of many medium-priced lenses;
(2) Excellent optical quality, with good sharpness even at the longest 300mm focal length where most zooms begin to show poor quality;
(3) VERY UNUSUAL: near-zero distortion throughout the entire range of focal lengths (very different from some Sigma zooms that I own, which have conspicuously visible pincushion distortion). This may well be the lowest-distortion 75-300 telephoto from any maker.
(4) ONE CAVEAT: AUTOFOCUS IN LOW LIGHT: on my Minolta Maxxum 7 film camera, whose autofocus system is apparently quite similar to the Sony Alpha 100, the camera has difficulty autofocussing the 75-300 lens at the 300 mm setting (where the aperture is only f/5.6) in light weaker than direct sunlight. This is probably the same with any f/5.6 or slower lens. I have found myself switching to manual focus at the 300 mm setting if the subject is not brightly lit.
NOTE: the Konica Minolta 75-300 (D) lens is still available, for about $140, and reportedly will work with Sony Alpha cameras just as well as the similar lens labelled Sony.

Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP A/M 1:1 Macro Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras Review

Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP A/M 1:1 Macro Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

This is an excellent choice if you're interested in close-up and macrophotography -- it's sharp corner-to-corner, and you get life-size photos down to the size of a large bug. Usually you end up focusing macro shots manually, and the Tamron manual focus ring travels about 270 degrees, giving lots of smooth fine-tuning capability.
For portraits and medium telephoto shots, the autofocus capability works well but it's audible. You can set a limiting switch so that it won't hunt through the entire range, from 8" to infinity. It's easy to switch from autofocus to manual by feel -- you can do it without moving your eye from the viewfinder.
There are probably better choices if you want to do portraits first and macrophotography second -- Canon's 100mm and Sigma's 105mm macros, in particular, but the Tamron is an excellent choice for macro work.
The lens body is plastic, so it's lighter than OEM lenses from Canon & Nikon. The light weight makes one wonder about how rugged it is, but it feels well put together, and anyway you shouldn't be using a lens to drive nails.
Note that the 90mm designation applies only to full frame SLRs. On digital SLRs like the Canon 300D & 350D or the Nikon D50 & D70, the lens gives you an effecive focal length of about 130mm. So you get a bit more working distance for macro subjects, but you may have to stand back too far from the subject for portraiture.

I'm somewhat new to digital photography and wanted to wade into slowly. I was nervous hoping to find someone I could trust and who was willing to point me in the right direction versus just making a sale.
I had purchased my first item, Nikon D40, from Cameta Camera through Amazon nearly three years ago. When I decided I wanted to add a telephoto lens to my collection, it was only natural I return to Amazon. I'm heading back to New Mexico this spring and I really want to capture some of the wildlife I've photographed before, only better.
Just as before, Cameta Camera had the lens for me. I purchased a Vivitar Series 1 650 - 1300mm Telephoto Zoom Lens. (Actually my husband bought it for me as a Valentine's Day gift.) I couldn't wait for it to arrive. When it did, I was extremely intimidated. I thought I'd bought something I wouldn't be able to use. I had all sorts of problems, probably because of nerves.
I went to Cameta Camera's website, found a phone number of assistance and met Rich, via phone, a short time later. He's a lifesaver.
He told me how to set everything up, explained to me that with practice and familiarity, I'd be taking photos in no time. He was right. I started getting shots while we were still on the phone.
He listened to questions -- panicks is more like it -- then gave me answers. Rich said there was a kit that had a few extra items in it that would really help me with the lens. Had I ordered it originally, I would have had better results. He helped me order the kit -- it's on the way. It contains a UV filter to help cut down on 'haze' effecting my photos. It also includes a remote shutter release so I won't shake the camera -- and do I!
I just had a great experience with Cameta Camera from start to finish. For novices, I wholeheartedly recommend using Cameta Camera. They can help you select the photography equipment that works best for you and what you'd like to achieve - of course, with practice.
I'm very excited to hit the road after lots of practice with my new lens.
