After about a week with this camera, I really like it. I am a photographer and I needed a D-SLR, I wanted to start small, but not too small, and cheap. I did do a LOT of research before buying this. I would not recommend it if you need to take lots of fast consecutive shots, 2.5fps (frames per second) is not the fastest. Flash recovery time is a bit slow too. If you have large hands this camera might be strange too, the buttons have very little travel and are shallow and the grip is small. The menus and UI (user interface) are very very nice however. Easy to use and navigate. I really like this camera, it is basic, but has advanced features too. Color is pretty good, but for the best results you should play with the settings. Another plus is you can use Minolta lenses too. 18mm-55mm kit lens is pretty nice, 55mm-200mm is also very nice. Both are pretty light. Another thing is the shutter is kinda loud, not a huge down, but something to take note of. Also has a proprietary hot shoe (where you can attach an external flash) but you can buy an adapter online for about $5. The battery life is also pretty good. I really like it, and would recommend.

Dont buy this bundle. All the accessories that are mentioned are of very poor quality. The memory card gave up in less than 2hrs of usage. The so called tripod can barely stand by itself, forget supporting a camera on top of it.
The camera is really good, but dont waste the extra money on this bundle for the cheap accessories, instead buy some good ones separately.

Was considering upgrading to a D-SLR type camera from my typical point-and-shoot camera, but I have to admit I was intimidated by price and complexity. I found the Fujifilm S8100fd to be the perfect blend of advanced features, price and complexity level. I wanted something that had a good telephoto/zoom lens and this one is awesome. The stability really helps keep things from being blurry and the advanced modes (multi-shot, movie, flash and no flash at same time [sounds odd, read the manual]) are really cool. This camera helps me take better pictures in almost any scenario. Add in an 8GB SDHC card and you have the ability to store thousands of photos and hours of video. Love this camera!

I have been looking for a compact all around point and shoot camera for awhile now. I have used multiple cameras in the last few months, and I think I have found my favorite. I'm not an expert in terms of color reproduction, or other details aspects of the final photo, but I don't see much to complain about in terms of photo quality.
PROS:
Ultra fast focus. This baby can focus and lock on in < 1 sec. This ensure that you'll be able to capture those timeless moments in a blink of an eye.
Fast startup. The startup of 0.7s is true, BUT only if you are in Auto Mode and Single Shot mode with AF/Center Focus. If you are in another mode or continuous/BSS, face detect, the camera takes almost 5 seconds before you can take your first show. Although I'm a little bit disapointed that the startup of the camera is limited to a very specific mode, I use Auto/Single/AF 99% of the time so I'm not too concerned.
Easy, intuitive controls. I didn't have to read the manual, and I can get around easily.'
High ISO modes, up to 6400. Although I would not recommend anything greater than 800 (or even 400 if you can help it), just have a capability just in case is nice.
Fast 5x wide angle lens. This lens has a pretty standard wide angle lens, 28mm, but the nice thing is that is also a fast lens - maximum aperture of 2.7. Helps a bit in low light. 5x is more than what basic P&S have (usually 3x).
Extremely compact and solid. Its pretty small, but still has a good feel in your hand. Easily slips into your pocket. CONS
Picture quality is just SO-SO. There hasn't been many compact 12mp P&S that excel in picture quality. While its not terrible, its not something to be excited about. Its comparable to any of the SD800-SD960, SD1200 cameras.
ISO800 is barely usable, and anything above that I don't recommend. Of course, I've been spoiled by DSLRs, but I was hoping for better.
Battery drains pretty quickly. I don't get the 200+ shots that Nikon says I can get. I get maybe 100? Of course, I use flash sometimes, I replay the photo's quite a bit, turn it on/off a lot. Maybe that 270 shots per battery is 270 continuous shots? I don't know. Get a second one in my opinion.
This camera takes a while to write to the SD flash card. On my previous Canon SD800 and Panasonic ZR1, I was able to take a picture, and flip it to the playback mode instantly. Now, it takes about 1.5 seconds to write to the card, before I can enable the playback mode. Slightly annoying. So, who is this camera for? Its for the amateur photographer who needs a fast, compact, basic Point and Shoot that will get the job done. I would recommend this over the Canon SD1200, SD800-SD960. But, because of the wide angle and fast shooting capability, you will be able to take quick shots which usually lead to more keeper photo's.

(added a couple of pics in the comments section)
I don't think it's possible to stress enough what an awful photographer I am. I've had cameras five times as expensive as this in my hands and taken blurry, yellowed and just dank-looking shots. I really, really suck at taking pictures. I wish I could give you all sorts of details about the lenses and shutter speeds and all that, but frankly, that's all beyond my expertise too. I'm a really, really basic camera user. Point and click, that's me.
This is like the Jitterbug of cameras. Even I took good pictures with this. It's basic, it's simple and me-proof. Setup was so easy; you just follow the instructions on the screen (a good thing, since all you get in the package is a huge foldout sheet with the very basics in French, English and Spanish) and go from there. From then, it's just trial and error, but I mostly just left things as they were and still managed not to fudge anything. The zoom worked perfectly, as did the flash. I took three shots in a row: indoors, my subject two feet in front of me in low light; in front of the window, my subject about five feet away from me; finally, outdoors, a wide shot in direct sunlight. All turned out clear and sharp and I never changed a single setting except to zoom in on my close subject a bit and out when I was outside.
The camera's much smaller than I expected, although it's nice and heavy. I've already found that the big LCD screen is a fingerprint magnet, no matter how much I try to protect it in a case I have. I'm getting quite a bit of life out of the battery; I've been taking quite a few pictures and it's lasting four or five days between charges.
One note: whatever you do, DON'T download the software that comes with this. I did and ended up in a maze of software upgrades that took me almost an hour to work through before I threw my hands up and uninstalled everything and just went with the basic hooking the USB cord up and letting my computer installing the driver on its own and using my own choice of program to view the images.
Software headache aside, I'm very happy with this, as basic as it is. It doesn't have a lot of advanced options, but truthfully, I not only wouldn't know what to do with them anyway, if I did, I'm sure I'd only end up messing up whatever pictures I took anyway. This is perfect for a bumbling photographer to take great pictures with.

Offering wide photographic versatility, a new Panoramic Shooting mode allows users to create stunning shots of sweeping landscapes and large groups of people. Just slip it in your pocket and go and have fun! Fujifilm FinePix J40 Highlights Pint-sized Compact At a mere 20mm thin, this slender little camera is the perfect companion for someone who likes to carry their camera with them at all times, and does not want it to take up too much room in their bag, or be too bulky in their pocket. Big on Style The FinePix J40 may be low on cost but it's high on style. As well as its adorable petite frame, the FinePix J40 has been finished with a special double coated lacquer to give a beautifully glossy, varnished finish. Zoom, Zoom, Zoom The FinePix J40 is fitted with a high quality Fujinon 3x zoom lens, ensuring you can get up close to your subject. Big Screen It's easy to view and compose your photos using the FinePix J40's large and bright 3.0-inch LCD screen. Plus, try the Microthumbnail View in playback which displays up to 100 thumbnails of your photos so you can quickly find your favourite shot. Easy-to-use The J40 has been designed to make taking photos fun and easy. With a simple and intuitive graphical user interface it really is a joy use. Memory storage The FinePix J40 is compatible with SD/SDHC memory cards. Plus there is an extra 10MB of internal memory so you don't have to worry about filling up your memory card. Fujifilm FinePix J40 Features Impressive Panoramas The FinePix J40 features a handy Panoramic Shooting mode. So now you can create stunning panoramic shots in-camera. All you have to do is take three consecutive shots of a scene and this clever technology seamlessly stitches them together to create one superb panoramic image. High-Resolution images With 12.2 megapixels, you will be amazed at the clarity of the images you take: clear, sharp and packed full of colour. Let us do all the hard work Fujifilm's Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO) technology makes it easy to take good pictures. It intelligently detects a scene without the need to pre-select a mode on the camera. Having identified the most commonly photographed subjects, Fujifilm has developed technology to automatically recognise different scenes; Portrait, Backlit Portrait, Night Portrait, Landscape, Night and Macro. Just point at the scene and let the camera adjust the settings to optimise the results. Easy! Perfect Portraits For perfect people pictures Fujifilm's Face Detection technology cleverly detects faces in the frame and sets the focus and exposure for the faces rather than anything in the background, revealing sharp and in-focus portrait shots. No More Blur The J40 is kitted out with Picture Stabilization, which minimises image blur that can so often ruin photos. Fujifilm's stabilization system works automatically and ensures that image blurring and camera shake are kept to an absolute minimum. Make a Movie Capture more than just a picture - re-live your memories in their full glory, with sound at 30 frames per second. You can even use the zoom function during movie recording. Good in low-light Photos taken in low light are the ones that are most likely to produce disappointing results. Limited flash range and direct light can mean the foreground is harshly lit and the background lost all together. If the flash isn't used at all, the image can suffer from digital interference called 'noise' as the sensor struggles to pick up all of the detail in the scene. Fujifilm has put 70 years of experience in imaging into fine-tuning the light sensitivity and flash systems of its cameras and you perhaps wouldn't normally expect a camera placed at such an affordable price point, to house such technology – but we can assure you - it does. Scene it? With 17 special scene modes, the J40 is ready to shoot everything and anything, from "Sunsets" to "Flowers." Have fun trying out each scene position and the camera automatically selects the appropriate shutter speed, exposure and white balance to ensure that you get great images with the least amount of effort. I purchased the Rebel 2000 after a couple of months of serious comparison shopping. My decision came down to the Nikon N60 and the Rebel 2000. The cameras share 90% of their features but the Canon provided 7 point autofocusing, 35 zone metering and a depth of field preview. You would have to spend almost $1000 to get these features on a Nikon. The only reason I even had to make a choice between the two was because the Nikon has superior optics and a more sturdy "feeling" aluminum body. The Nikon felt great in my hands and while I enjoyed the light weight of the canon, I was fearful of it's ability to take a beating. Then, I thought..."will i abuse my camera...NO...could an aluminum body handle a 4ft drop from my hands?...NO! So what's the difference. Don't be afraid of the alloy body! Some are under the impression that if it costs over $100, it should be heavy? Enjoy the freedom that these new products and the materials can afford us. The lens mounts hold up just fine. Most beginners will only buy two lenses anyway and won't change them very often. I have a trusted friend in a camera repair shop who says the new plastics are plenty strong enough and he hasn't repaired one yet. This is a great camera. I give it 4 instead of 5 stars for a lack of spot metering. Don't buy the standard 28-80 lens. It's lacking. Buy a body online for less than $260. Save your money and then buy a 28-105 or 28-135 USM lens. Always buy good glass! You won't be disappointed with this buy.

The Canon EOS Rebel 2000 is an affordable, lightweight, andfull-featured automatic 35mm SLR for both beginning and advancedamateur photographers. It offers a host of special modes for specificshooting situations, including full auto, manual, night scene, portrait, landscape, and more. It also has shutter-speed priority andaperture priority modes--although most users will inevitably leave thecamera in full auto mode a majority of the time and the cameraperforms very well that way. Just remember that the empty rectanglesymbol on the mode dial is for full auto.
Some other basic features include an impressive seven-point autofocussystem, LCD panel with extensive information display, three exposuremetering modes (evaluative, partial, and centerweighted), autoexposure bracketing, a multiple exposure function, and depth-of-fieldpreview. The autofocus system is incredibly responsive, and includesseven focusing points that can be set individually for super creativeshooting. In other words, using the LCD panel as a guide, you can setthe camera to automatically focus on the far right focus point (or anyof the other points) so your main subject doesn't have to be in themiddle of the frame to be in focus in a snap.
In fact, most settings can be adjusted in creative ways on the Rebel2000, like the exposure level, which can be set to overexpose orunderexpose up to two full stops for tricky lighting situations whereyou might want to fool the camera's metering system. It also has asmall, built-in pop-up flash, plus a hot shoe for an additional flashunit. Overall, we found this camera to be smartly designed with anattractive look and a comfortable feel.

I bought this camera in preparation for a sightseeing trip I took to China. I've never owned a camera before and it was **easy for me to use** this one. I still have to learn how to use the manual settings, but it **took some really good pictures** even just on the auto and no-flash settings. The pictures looked so nice that several people on the trip with me who saw how the pictures looked asked me to burn a cd for them even though they were taking their own pictures with their own digital cameras.
It is **not too bulky** and **not too heavy**.
My favorite pictures are the **landscapes**, **portraits**, **photos of water**, and **night lights**.
The **battery life** was wonderful. I had the camera on most of the time every day, reviewed the photos frequently, charged the battery every other night in hotel rooms, and I never ran out of battery at an inconvenient time. I charged the battery without a converter in China, which has 220V power as opposed to America's 120V, and the higher power did not have any negative effects.
These good things far outweigh the bad things, which are few but worth mentioning for those who are considering buying this camera.
As some other people mentioned, there does seem to be a **slight warp** in the corners of the photo sometimes, but I can't tell if this is because the subject moved or if the angle was weird for the photo or something. It isn't noticable, however, unless it was someone's face.
Carrying the camera around my neck by the strap all day for twelve days gave me **rope burn**. Just a caution.
The photos that DID NOT turn out very well were **portraits in dim lighting** and **photos of moving objects**. This camera does not take very good pictures from a moving vehicle like a bus or taxi, and photos taken in dim lighting were either blown out by the flash or blurry without it. It may be that I just haven't learned how to use the settings well enough to prevent this, however.

Opteka SLR & DSLR Camera Long Zoom Holster Case w/Adjustable Shoulder Strap Review

Opteka SLR and DSLR Camera Long Zoom Holster Case w/Adjustable Shoulder Strap
Average Reviews:

This long zoom holster case is wonderful. I decided on the long over the short to insure that I could fit my Nikon D40x nicely with any lens attached. The longest lens I use to date is the 55-200mm VR. In the holster, there is still a decent amount of space between the camera back and the zippered top of the holster.
Carrying my camera without the holster, it was constantly bouncing off my body when I walked. With the holster, you barely notice a sway and it's so much more comfortable to walk with. While on a recent photo shoot, the holster still over my shoulder, was never in the way and is very light.
Construction is very good. Material inside and out is soft but firm/protective. I greatly appreciated the outside pocket to hold my lens caps with easy access!! The top carry handle is in a direction appropriate to carrying without awkwardness. (You'll notice there is another brand, if you're researching holsters, where the handle is in an opposing direction. Just didn't look right for carrying).
When you're using the camera, the holster comes in handy to hold glasses or sundry until you're ready to swap out with the camera. Excellent little companion! Most of all, I'm happy I choose the larger of the two holsters offered. The extra room offers options.

Opteka BP-D80 Battery Grip for Nikon D80 & D90 Digital SLR Review

Opteka BP-D80 Battery Grip for Nikon D80 and D90 Digital SLR
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this product about April '08. I'm quite pleased with it. Most reviews rate it higher than the MB-D80 from Nikon. I get two batteries in the camera, while the third charges. The lock ring tightens very well on mine (read about others having problems) if you put a little umph on it.
The AA battery insert is a nice feature for emergencies. The shutter button on it is not quite as smooth as that on the camera. I'd like to see that improved. I get the sub-command dial and the command dial in the vertical position. It also has a power switch for the grip, to save a little bit of juice when not in use.
The feel is well built and sturdy. It is lighter than I expected, but not cheap feeling at all. The rubber grip appears to be well made and has stood up well to many long hours of sun, heat, and sweat. I have a sure grip even with the sweatiest hands. The ability to have a second battery is easily worth the price of the unit. The only thing missing is a second card slot!
The instructions aren't the best, but what's to know. Plug in, turn on. Not quite as sturdy feeling as my old Canon grip, but tougher than it seems at first and well made. The shutter button could use a little work, though.
Four Stars!

I just got this great, new camera from Nikon and it has been just great. This falls into the category of "what will they think of next?" The camera itself is a solid performer for a point and shoot with a slightly better than average 5x zoom which is great for a point & shoot model. Of course, the projector is the "WOW!" factor. No more squeezing around the display on the back to show your friends the photos. The projector is a great way to share your images. The image quality is not as high as the LCD display, but fine for quick showings.
As an artist, I will use this camera to shoot new subjects, then project them onto a canvas so I can transfer the compositions into a painting.
Be sure to order the larger Nikon case since the other "S" cases are too small for this model.
