Tamrac 3330017 Aero 30 Digital Camera Zoom Case (Black) Review

Tamrac 3330017 Aero 30 Digital Camera Zoom Case (Black)

The Tamrac 3330 is perfect for motorcycle travel or other. It will hold my
Canon EOS 40D with a Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L lens. I wrap the camera strap
around the lens, slide the camera in the case and zip it up. The fit is extremely tight, but usable. I throw( read place carefully)it in the tour pac of the motorcycle and I'm ready to ride. The case has two side pockets for something small like CF cards or extra batteries, not much more.
The Tamrac 3330 is also called the Aero Zoom 30.
Update: 11/21/2008 The Tamrac 3330 will also hold a Canon EOS 50D with a Canon EF 100mm Macro f/2.8 USM attached with the lens hood in the reverse position. Shall I get red or another black one for the second camera?
This is a great value.

I have a bunch of 55mm filters from an older camera but I needed them to fit a lens with a 52mm thread. This did the trick. It's made of metal and I haven't had any trouble getting it on or off.

Allows you to use larger size filters on lenses with a smaller diameter thread. The first number is the size that screws into the lense, the second number is the filter size.

Gary Fong LS2P1 Lightsphere II Size 1 (Clear) Review

Gary Fong LS2P1 Lightsphere II Size 1 (Clear)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I consider myself a pretty tough grader and it isn't often that I give a product 5 stars. However, the Lightsphere deserves every one of them.
Used within certain limits, the Lightsphere does indeed provide soft, even lighting from a basic on-camera flash. I use mine with a Nikon SB600 and couldn't be happier with it.
There are models available for many different flashes so be sure to get the right one. There is also a universal model available that works very well if you have a variety of flashes. Check the Gary Fong website for more details and some demos.
For many years I simply mounted my flash and bounced the light off the ceiling or nearby wall. For the most part the results that I got were pleasing. However, the Lightsphere takes the bounce approach a step further and ensures a softer, more diffuse light that makes portraits appear to have been shot with a much more sophisticated and larger lighting system.
Oh, yeah. I did mention that the product must be used within certain limits, so let me explain.
The most obvious limit is the flash unit itself. A more powerful flash will allow the shooter to use a smaller aperture to increase depth of field if desired. It will also allow for greater bounce distance (a high ceiling comes to mind) and the use of a lower ISO setting permits your camera to produce the highest (technical) quality images of which it is capable.
One importatnt thing to bear in mind is that there is simply no way that a device the size of the Lightsphere can provide the same quality light as a softbox or umbrella. The laws of physics just don't work that way. The larger the light source (and the closer to the subject) the softer the light. Be that as it may, the Lightsphere does indeed soften and diffuse the light to give a decent imitation of a much larger light source.
If you're finding that your flash shots, even bounced, are still a bit harsh, give this product a try. Chances are you'll never again shoot flash without it.

Sigma DG 52mm Wide Multi-Coated Circular Polarizer Filter Review

Sigma DG 52mm Wide Multi-Coated Circular Polarizer Filter
Average Reviews:

Works as expected. The grip on the outside ring makes it really nice and allows for you to turn the filter easy enough. Another reviewer stated that their lense cap would not fit with the filter on. I find that this is not the case. My Nikon lense cap fits perfectly and is not loose at all when attached to this filter. This filter is a must if you are taking pictures on sunny days. Glares disappear and the picture you wanted is ready to be taken. First class filter!

Designed for use with autofocus and multifocus SLR cameras, the Sigma 52mm circular polarizing filter cuts the glare from water and nonmetallic surfaces, letting you enjoy crisper, clearer images. A circular polarizer is intended to improve color saturation and contrast, performing such tasks as darkening the sky in color photography without affecting the color balance. The filter's multilayer coating, meanwhile, optimizes protection for the lens while further reducing reflection. The filter--which is designed to especially benefit wide-angle lenses without vignetting--fits lenses with 58mm filter threads. Note that the polarizing filter does not have a thread on the front filter ring.

Transcend 1 GB 80x SD Flash Memory Card Review

Transcend 1 GB 80x SD Flash Memory Card
Average Reviews:

I got this 80X SD Card for my Canon SD450, and it's working great. I researched a lot about high speed SD cards and found this the best value for money. Also, I compromised with a 1 GB card because I think it's quite enough.
I have used several cameras (using SD, XD cards or sony's memory stick), and each time I have been transferring the pics there is a very long pause. NOT anymore! On a USB 2.0, transferring the first 150 pictures (each 2+ MB) from my camera to my computer took less than a minute.
For those of you who don't know 80X equals 80 X 150KB = about 12 MB per second speed. I am sure faster cards will give better performance but I don't think you need anything faster than this for the money you pay. Also, shooting using the burst mode (taking 15 pictures in less than 8-10 secs) was a breeze. I researched a lot for these cards and I think this is a good deal. I bought it from one of the outside vendors at Amazon (thememstore) and they gave me good service for a good price.

Bower FC52 - Close-up lens kit x 3 Review

Bower FC52 - Close-up lens kit x 3
Average Reviews:

Not too bad for a cheap set of filters. I'd like to shake the hand of the genius who thought to include the lens cap since the standard Nikon cap goes too deep when affixed, and could potentially scratch the filters.
The resolution on these is actually better than I expected.
Unfortunately, they don't work on my 55-200mm VR lens, but I didn't expect them to (bummer. I wanted that VR to really help). However, they do work great on my non-VR 18-55mm kit lens. Keep in mind, if stacked, they will cause some serious vignetting at the 18mm end --it's to be expected at the wide-angle, and if you really want to, crop it out, but I find it clears at around 20-25mm.
All-in-all, I'd say this is a good product for the price, and if nothing else, this series of filters is a good alternative to dumping a mountain of money on one of the upper-end macro lenses out there for people who just want to play around with macro photography.

I don't even know where to start. This lens produces sharp pictures and great color and contrast. This lens is perfect for low light and/or action/sport photography (as this lens is famous for being one of the fastest lens together with its brother 50mm f/1.8). This lens is also perfect for portrait and other general purposes (macro etc). This is definitely a very versatile lens.
However, I think you should really consider buying the f/1.8 first before thinking to buy this f/1.4 lens (mainly because it is more than twice the price of the f1/8 and most of the time the f/1.8 version is fast enough in my opinion). Some examples where the faster f/1.4 lens might make a difference: low light wedding/concert or indoor sports photography (where the light is often low from the camera perspective) such as hockey, track and field, skating, gymnastic, basketball etc.
As much as I want to encourage everyone to buy this lens right away, let me mention some of the limitation that you would see (which I think will be helpful to go over before deciding to buy this lens):
First, being a prime lens, you will need to move your feet a lot to compose your picture. If you are used to zoom lens, don't underestimate this limitation. It takes me a while to get used to it, and sometime I still find people looking at me wondering why I am moving forward and backwards. the good news is that most of the time, they don't think I'm weird, but they are actually wondering if I'm a professional photographer.
Secondly, the focal range of 50mm, which is considered the normal lens and great for portrait lens. but on many DSLRs which is not full frame (unless you have a full frame Nikon DSLR like the D700 or D3, then 50mm is 50mm), this lens become a 75mm equivalent which is in the border of a short tele lens. I actually like the 75mm equivalent though I often have to move backwards when taking picture of a group of people.
Sharpness increases as you stop down to f/2. I actually prefer to use the widest most of the time and the results are still nice. Personally (when shooting low light action/sport), I'd rather use f/1.4 aperture settings than stopped down (e.g to f/2.8) and compensate with higher ISO setting which often gives me grainy picture. But if your object is not moving (static) then it is better to stop down to f/2 or more.
If you are wondering whether you should get a fast lens or a lens with VR (Vibration Reduction), here's my take: In overall, VR does help a lot (as it will reduce camera shake) and will produce better/sharper picture than equivalent lens without VR (especially if the object is static). If the object is moving (sports/action) then VR feature alone might not help (depending on how fast the object is moving and how much light is available), and a fast lens often end up being a far better solution, even without VR feature as it will allow much faster shutter speed to freeze motion. Using tripod (and a remote) will substitute for the need of VR feature. In general I would recommend getting a fast lens with VR feature (and usually it is expensive) such as the 70-200 f/2.8 VR, but if one can only get for one or the other, then find out what do you want to use the lens for and then use the guideline mentioned here.
If you are wondering whether you will get the benefit of buying f/1.4 lens over a f/1.8 lens, just remember that the f/1.4 lens is about 60% faster than f/1.8 at its widest aperture setting. With this information, you can decide if the additional speed will justify the additional cost. The bokeh is nicer as well in f/1.4 lens but I think speed is usually the main factor in deciding whether to get the more expensive f/1.4 lens.
Here are the summary of pros and cons for this Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF lens:
Pros:
1. Very fast (f/1.4)
2. Very sharp pictures (especially when stopped down to f/2 or more. very sharp at f/2.8)
3. Great for sport/action photography
4. Great for indoor and low light situation
5. Great for portrait
6. Bokeh is almost as good as many expensive Nikon tele-lens
7. Fast autofocus
8. Perfect for wedding photography (or no-flash event). However, or try the 17-35mm f/2.8 or 28-70mm f/2.8 lens)
9. 75mm equivalent which can be considered a short tele lens (I actually like the fact that it's 75mm equivalent vs 50mm in DSLR. if you need more zoom, you can get the Nikon 85mm f/1.8, or the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR). If you have full frame DSLR(like the D3 or D700), then this #9 pros is not applicable.
10. Sharper than its 50mm f/1.8 sibling (at equivalent aperture)
Cons:
1. Being prime lens, you need to move your feet a lot to adjust/compose
2. Some distortion at widest aperture
3. Plasticy build (though it has metal moount and internal part seems to be from metal)
4. Autofocus is not the most silent but very reasonable
5. 75mm equivalent with 1.5x multiplier on non full frame DSLR (many people find this is an odd range for normal lens. I actually like it). If you have full frame DSLR(like the D3 or D700), then this #5 cons is not applicable.
6. Autofocus does not work with D40, D40x and D60. The newer 50mm f/1.4G AF-S lens will autofocus with those cameras.
Bottom line: This lens is so versatile that I think everyone should own (either the 50mm f/1.4 or the 50mm f/1.8) in addition to all the lenses that they already have. Being a very fast lens, it enables me to take pictures in low light (sport/action photography) that I otherwise wouldn't be able to do.
Again, I would recommend everyone to get this lens (or the 50mm f/1.8). In some ways I can say that this lens will make you a better photographer.
Happy Photographing!
Sidarta Tanu

There is something wrong with the price on this web site for the Nikon HR-1 and HR-2. These lens hoods should not cost more than $15.00 US. The $72.00 + price is just WRONG. Try www.bhphotovideo.comor www.adorama.com
I've been a Photographer since 1964 and teaching Photography since 1969, more than 10,000.00 students.
This Nikon Rubber Lens Shade (HR-1, or HR-2) is the best shade out there, if your lens will take a 52 mm filter. I have some of these that are 30 years old. If you have a Canon 50 mm f1.8 this will fit.
This is how it goes, the camera clerk will say " Let me help you out, you don't have to spend that much on a Nikon shade. This one is only $7.00". I have no $7.00 shade older than 6 months. The store will sell you a $7.00 shade every 6 months for the rest of your life. Be smart, no one that's serious about Photography works in a camera store. Of course you're not going to get a Nikon quality lens or teleconverter of high quality for an item this cheap, but if you have, say, a 200mm and want that extra range on occasion, this item will do fine provided you have good light conditions. I don't see the point in buying a $400 accessory that you use maybe twice a year, so if you are a nature photographer or sports photographer, this isn't for you, but for photographers who might want to photograph their local sports team or do some photo taking while hiking and not in need of professional, stock quality images, this will suit the bill. And carrying it in your camera bag won't make you as nervous about cracking the glass as would a high priced item.

Placed between the camera body and lens, a teleconverter contains a set of optics that will effectively increase the focal length of a lens by a factor of 1.4 times. Pro-optic converters are made with high quality multi coated optics and designed to electronically operate with the camera contacts. Designed specifically to be used with prime or zoom lenses of 100mm or above. 1.4 will increase a 300mm into 420mm and will decrease the lens with 1 f/stop. Focusing manually is recommended when using a lens with a f/stop of f4 or slower. Longer exposures will require a tripod for stabilization

I am still a novice with dSLRs and I was looking for a lens to bring me out of kit lenses catagory and provide better range for wildlife photograhy. Best of all, the price was well below the cost of a similar Nikon lens, with VR.
Overall, I am very please. I live within a few miles of a national wildlife refuge and as soon as the lens arrived, I took it to the refuge for a test run and I was pleased with the results. I am still not sure if I want to take the lens on trail hikes, but the images are sharp, the color is good and I did not need to spend a great deal of time in Photoshop correcting lens error. I ordered this as a 2nd charger, and I think it will be my main charger from here on out. I like the flip out plug design - much less bulky than the Nikon charger, fits nicely into my camera bag. The car charger is a nice extra, and I can see myself using it on those days when I forget to charge my batteries before heading out for the day.
A little confused by the LED flashlight "feature," but maybe I'm missing something? Overall a great little charger to throw in your bag and go.

I have only used this lens a handful of times. I recently reviewed some pictures of a hawk that I had taken with this lens and they looked better than I expected. This will not give you tack sharp pictures but its a fun lens to play with. Great for moon shots.
