(More customer reviews)This holster fits a D200 with 18-200mm lens perfectly. Some other reviewers have complained that the case is too big, but with a higher quality DSLR and a medium length telephoto this bag really shines. The front pocket holds plenty of CF cards and spare batteries. There is a little pocket on the underside of the lid which is perfect for holding filters and polarizers when not attached to your camera.
I use this bag clipped to the shoulder straps of my Arc Teryx Bora 80 backpack. In my setup I have the bag hanging across my chest just below my sternum. During a trip across Glacier National Park (51lbs pack, 6 nights) the case always had my D200 ready. I typically leave the top flap zipped a couple inches on each side to keep the camera secure. Even while crossing rough terrain, scrambling over scree and kick stepping across snow fields this bag left little to be desired. It hangs steady and does not bounce too much.
If you are looking for something to hold your camera while out backpacking I don't know of any better solutions out there.

Tamron A19-100 Adaptall SP 70-210mm F/3.5 Manual Focus Lens with Hood and Case Review

(More customer reviews)In my opinion, and for several reasons, this is the best 70-210 zoom lens ever designed and manufactured. Overall somewhat above average performance within its class, plus several notable design features. This later one-touch constant F3.5 aperture zoom features a unique "reverse" zooming cam in which the zoom collar moves forward to become a lens shade when zooming to the longer focal lengths. This, in conjunction with the bayonet lens hood, assures that the optics are always optimally shaded against stray light. The model 19AH has approximately 50% better overall resolution and contrast compared to the earlier two-touch model 52A. Macro optical performance is exceptional (for a zoom), reaching 1:2.66 life size at the 210mm position. Macro performance towards the corners of the field is superior to the earlier model. Achieving this high level of optical performance throughout the entire zooming and focusing ranges was no easy task.
Compare the optical design of this lens with the optical design for the earlier 70-210 model 52A. You will note that Tamron still uses a four element focus group to greatly control aberrations and to provide extremely good macro performance. The primary aberration which needs to be controlled within any continuous focusing telephoto macro zoom lens is spherical aberration. Several of Tamron's SP telephoto prime lenses use a special spherical aberration compensator group to virtually eliminate focus induced spherical aberration. Unfortunately, a spherical aberration compensator group is impossible to incorporate within a telephoto zoom lens since the zoom's variator and compensator groups occupy the space within the optical design where the spherical aberration compensator group would be placed. Tamron's optical engineers had to seek out other solutions. The only practical solution was to further refine the design of the four element focus group to not merely minimize focus induced spherical aberration, but to actually compensate for it to a fair degree. This is the purpose of the focus group's cemented doublet which looks like a meniscus lens. It allowed Tamron to optimize this lens for focus distances which are much closer to infinity rather than macro, yet also allows focus induced spherical aberration to be compensated for fairly well when close focusing. But there is a limit to this design approach, and this is why this lens is limited to a 1:2.66 macro magnification ratio compared to the earlier model's 1:2 macro magnification ratio. The result, however, is a 3:1 zoom lens which not only is sharp when photographing distant subjects but also is fairly sharp when used for macro photography.
In terms of overall optical performance, solid construction, ease of handling, zero zoom creep, and optimized variable shading when the lens is used with its lens hood, you can see why I think that this is the best 70-210 zoom lens ever produced by any manufacturer. In short, Tamron achieved the optimal balance of the overall optical and mechanical design features which Tamron wished to incorporate into this lens.

Light rays which are reflected by any surface can become polarised so polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. CIRCULAR PL filters allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot.Using the CIRCULAR PL filter, reflections and glare can be reduced significantly from non-metallic surfaces. The trade off for the versatility is the mecahanics at times. Instead of being a master on one focal range, it's the jack of all trades. It has a very difficult time focusing quickly, especially with a filter on the lens. AF is slow on this lens.

I have already had a claim on two items and true to their promise Square Trade settled my claims quickly. In both cases neither item could be fixed so Square Trade refunded the purchase price of the item which was way more than what I paid for the warranty. I prefer a warranty that refunds the item purchase price instead of replacing the item. A refund allows you to purchase a new item that you want...it doesn't have to be the same item if you discovered it was cheaply made and that is why it broke! I bought a used cell phone on ebay and after 3 or 4 months the phone stopped working and they refunded my money! On my other claim I purchased the accidental insurance and I dropped the camera a month after I bought it and they gave me my money back (after a $50 deductible). In both cases I bought new, better items. You can't go wrong with Square Trade!

(More customer reviews)Whether or not you need a UV/Protecting filter on your expensive glass is a topic that is debated endlessly on photographic forums. There are those who think that it is silly to put a cheap piece of glass in front expensive glass (it can only reduce the contrast/quality of the picture right?). And there are others who think that it is a lot better to scratch/get dirty/lick(?) a cheap piece of glass than a $2000 lens.
Either way, as far as filters go, the Hoya HD filters are really nice. They are multi-coated and easy to clean. Unlike the cheap filters out there, they are made of real glass. And if you are somewhat brave, they can be had for somewhat decent prices from sellers in HK. Definitely worth getting. I have several of them (including 2 at the 77mm filter size)

Lowepro Lens Case 1W (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I have used a few different camera bags over the years, and I really like the LowePro system. I use the Holster for the DSLR with a lens attached, and the lens cases for my extra lenses.
When I need to transport my equipment around, I have two ways I use this system. The first way is to use the LowePro waist belt, and I attach the Toploader holster to the belt. This is nice because I can easily unzip the holster and pull out the camera and shoot. One nice feature is the the top zips open away from your body, so that the top doesn't get in the way as you are trying to pull out the camera. I don't usually use the lens cases on the belt, as I feel that's a little too much bulk/weight for my taste. Instead, I wear a non-descript backpack in which I carry whatever lenses I might want for the day. I keep the lenses in the LowePro lens case and they remain safe, sound and incognito. I can also use the backpack for whatever else I may want for the day -- snacks, sweatshirt, umbrella, etc. I feel this makes the backpack safer in that it doesn't scream "Thousands of dollars of nice lenses inside!" like my Canon backpack does.
One reason I like the belt system is that I can still push around a stroller or wheelchair (something I often have to do) and still have the camera at the ready (without having the camera around my neck and swinging back and forth).
The second way is really just a version of the first, except that instead of wearing the belt, I toss the holster pack into the backpack with whatever lenses I might want.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this method. The LowePro bags are well made, and have the features I'm looking for.
As for the 1W lens case, it fits my Canon 10-22 and my Canon 24-70L 2.8. The shade for the 10-22 is a pretty tight fit, and the 24-70 is slightly long for the case, but I can close it up without difficulty.
I also use a lens case 2, and use that for the Canon 70-200L f/4 IS.
With the toploader holster, and the two lens cases, I can keep one lens on the camera, and the other two in the lens cases.
After using a traditional camera bag, a photo backpack, and a Crumpler shoulder bag, I find that the LowePro belt system components offer the most flexibility for my pattern of use.

(More customer reviews)Too often buyers are unaware that any 3X telephoto will have a "blacked-out" circle when drawing in the lens from full extension....i.e.: it's a specialty lens intended for telephoto; not for ranges between the basic lens range & the telephoto. Given those limitations, the TOKINA is a better-than-average lens and probably one of the most-lens-for-the-money additions you can find. TOKINA optics receive consistently high marks from professional reviewers and my experience (3 lenses) bears that out.

(More customer reviews)I bought this lens to replace the kit lens that came with the Sony Alpha 300. I wanted an all-round lens so I wouldn't have to carry/change multiple lenses. I'm very happy with the results: excellent quality photo's, very easy to use because of the all-purpose 18-200 range.
Some observations:
- Although the lens doesn't feel overly heavy, if you point the camera down, the lens will "zoom in" due to gravity pulling it out. Understandable, but sometimes this feels clumsy. There is a zoom-lock switch btw.
- If you place the anti-direct-sunlight-cap-thingie backwards on the lens (to store it there), you cannot reach the manual focus ring anymore. Understandable, and documented, but still not practical.
Bottomline: very good buy, must-have if you choose to carry 1 lens max.

So not only getting the lens I wanted, but the extras like the Converter, the filters, the hood, tripod, and the new back pack - which I haven't even cracked open. I am looking for more kits like this for another lens.

Light and practical enough to carry all over Africa for the week you're there. A good safari company ought to get you close enough so a 300mm lens should be fine. Anything bigger will be to heavy to carry around for a week or so.
