(More customer reviews)To preface this with my background, I am a techie. I have graduated college with a degree in computer engineering, so I have a certain aptitude for technology and computers.
With that said, I bought this card so that I would never have to respond again to my mother's question "Can you show me just ONE MORE TIME how to put the pictures on the computer?" She does NOT have a great technical aptitude.
So, I ordered this for my mother for mother's day. She has recently become a grandma and wants to take pictures of my nephew, her grandson, and share them with the family. I opted for the Share version of the Eye Fi, so she could upload to Kodak Gallery without any trouble.
In my experience this product works like a charm. I had to set it up for my mother, obviously, but it was relatively painless. One quick tip for setup: SUPPOSEDLY the Eye Fi cards do NOT WORK WITH WPA-AES. They may require your wireless network setting to be set to TKIP instead. I did this in advance because I read it somewhere, but I didn't find this information on the Eye Fi website, so I cannot verify it at this time. After registering the card with the supplied software, which admittedly took 2 or 3 [very quick] tries, and setting up for my now WPA-TKIP network, and our Kodak Gallery settings, we tested it out. Using my mother's camera, we took a few photos within the house. Within moments, because we were in the wireless network range, the photo appeared in the corner of our computer screen. We checked the folder it was supposed to be placed into, and it was there. I logged into Kodak Gallery, and the photo was there. The names need to be changed, if you wish them to be more descriptive, but I didn't find them to be a problem (folders/names based on date, time, etc.)
We tried this on about 5 photos, and each one offered the same positive results. At this point, my mother has taken at least 100 or so photos with the camera, inside and outside the range of the wireless network. She turns it on when she brings it home, and so far it has been near flawless. She has informed me that one or two photos did NOT get transferred--I haven't determined what the cause was for this, due to a lack of supervision during the process--it's simple enough that I didn't feel it to be necessary.
Regardless, with the exception of those one or two photos that were missed, the card has been perfect. I honestly think that, for the convenience that this brings to her (and the sanity it maintains for me, being "the computer guy" for the family) it is worth the one or two missed photos. At this point, I've told her "just take extra pictures" until I figure it out. If/when I figure it out, I'll post an update. But it hasn't happened again since those couple of photos, which were a while ago, so I don't see this as a recurring problem. Given all of that, I would have to say this is a great product, which offers incredible convenience for the price.

I shoot a lot of pictures outdoors and need to change lenses in those conditions. My experience has been no matter how careful I am (ie: walking back to my truck from the beach to change lenses due to high wind and/or heavy fog, using a rain poncho to mask weather conditions, or holding the camera body above when changing lenses) some form of debris has still found it's way onto my sensor.
My Arctic Butterfly 724 has worked great just about every time. It's those situations when pesky leftovers are still showing up in test pictures.
The first time that happened I contemplated my options and proceeded on taking my camera in for professional cleaning. While I do recommend a professional cleaning, that's not always an option if you're already out taking pictures and are far away from a camera repair shop.
This led me to looking for a way to fix the problem when out in the field.
I did some research which led me to trying out the Eclipse cleaning solution on my Canon 5D Mark II. So far I have had no problems. I used the company's website to find the size of swab and version of cleaner I would need for my sensor and it worked great.
I give this product 5 stars because it saved me it a tight spot when getting my camera cleaned professionally was not an option.

(More customer reviews)I can't say enough about how great the eye-fi technology is... the setup was an absolute nightmare for me though.
CAUTION: For anyone thinking about purchasing this card, you need to make sure that your camera will be compatible and the eye-fi card will transfer the types of files you want transferred. This particular card is a SDHC, meaning your camera needs to be able to handle SDHC cards (not just SD cards!). Also, read in the forums on the eye-fi site to find out if anyone has found problems with your particular camera blocking signals from the card. I have read that some camera cases interfere with the wireless signals from the card. This card will transfer jpeg picture files, but no other image files. There is a new pro card out that will transfer RAW files if you want to transfer those. Video formats the 4GB Share Video card will handle include: MPEG, AVI, MOV, FLV, MP4, and WMV.The card comes with a small USB device that allows you to plug the card into your compuer. After plugging it in, an eye-fi manager will be launched via your web browser. You must create an account with eye-fi (just requires an email signup - no fees). After the account is set-up, the card will detect wireless connections and allow you to select which connection to use. I had a horrible time getting the card to connect to my wireless connection (never had any problems with other devices, and I have quite a bit of experience setting up wireless networks/devices). The problem is that they give you way too few options to fix problems that might arise. The one and only solution the eye-fi gave me when it wouldn't connect was to add the card's MAC address to my wireless router's list of incoming connections, which didn't help at all. Eventually, I needed to completely redo my entire wireless network to get the card to connect, which was a pain. The problem in all of this wasn't the fact that the card should have connected easier, but that the setup was too simplistic and too linear. If anything went wrong in the setup process, you had to start over from the beginning... there was no way to resume from the part that gave you an error. Essentially, you have to go through the entire process of signing up for an account, connecting to your wireless network, taking a picture, and sending the picture before the setup is complete. Any problems? Back to the beginning... and I had plenty of problems through the process.
After the setup process is complete, the card works great though. Transfers start as soon as the camera is in range of the wireless connection, is on, and the computer is on (although there is another option in the settings to allow photos to be transferred to an eye-fi server and then to your computer so that both do not have to be on at the same time). Photos and video can be uploaded to any directory you choose on your computer and can be labeled by the date created or uploaded. They can also be uploaded directly to a wide variety of sites including Flickr, photobucket, facebook, walmart, costco, and many more (almost any photo site you can think of). You can have photos videos go to separate/multiple places, and advanced options allow you to set private or public viewing capabilities on each site you upload to. Your photos/video are automatically uploaded as soon as the camera is in range of the network, but another feature allows you to only upload pictures/videos that you set to "protect" mode in your camera (that way not everything gets uploaded all the time).
This particular card comes only with support for your home network, but you can purchase an upgrade to allow you to access any wifi hotspot to upload your pictures for $15 a year. An upgrade to allow geotagging of your photos like on the "explore" card is also available for $15 a year.
The transfers are very fast, and the pictures stay on your card in case something goes wrong in the transfer process. You can then delete them from your card when you want. You can set up email, SMS, or Twitter alerts to tell you when the transfer is started, completed, or if anything goes wrong.
Overall, it's a fantastic device. I couldn't imagine going back to all the USB transfers I used to do. Just be prepared for a great deal of frustration in the setup process unless you are one of the lucky ones and everything goes perfect from the start.

(More customer reviews)First off, there are several different Eye-Fi models so I suggest you get the one with the features you need. The "X2" models now have the Class 6 rating which is great news for fast D-SLR's with high megapixels (18+, etc) or taking 1080p HD video to ensure the data transfer rate can keep up with the recording.
The X2 adds the Class 6 rating, 802.11 b/g/n capability and endless memory. All of which were major concerns with the older models when using them in modern D-SLRs.
I chose this one because the X2 Pro offers RAW image transfers and Ad hoc mode. If you do not take pictures in RAW format and/or do not care to transfer directly from Camera to Laptop via WiFi, then get the X2 Explore for $50 cheaper.
Setup is a breeze. When you first put the card into the computer, it will ask if you want to install the software. You can use the web based settings manager if you do not want to install any software. I chose to install the Eye-Fi Manager software. Very functional.
The first thing it will ask you to do is to select a network to connect to. I chose mine at home and configured the WPA2 security in seconds.... it connected and asked me to put the card into my camera and take a test picture.
I did so and withing seconds, my T2i's display showed that the eye-fi was connected and transferring data. The computer software system tray icon lit up and confirmed this too.
I took an 18mp picture for the test which turned out to be about 22mb RAW and 7mb jpeg. It finished the transfer quickly.
There are many custom features you can set to tell it what to do with the pictures. I have mine set to transfer to my HDD and MobileMe account. There are about 25 online services you can automatically upload to.
I do like the fact that you can set it to upload to a "private" album so it is not automatically "shared".
You can add multiple cards to one account and manage them all through the software. I currently have 3 Eye-Fi cards (2 x 8GB X2 Pro for my D-SLR and 1 x 8GB X2 Explore for my point and shoot).
You can configure each card separately to deliver the pictures where you would like them.
I recommend this card.
UPDATE: I have been using this card all day today and through several battery cycles. There is a significant drop in battery life while using this card, which is understandable because it is transmitting via WiFi.
I am using the Canon T2i and the camera has an Eye-Fi menu within which I can disable the WiFi. The battery does last longer when I shut off the Eye-Fi card (WiFi). So something to think about, maybe get a spare battery or get a camera with Eye-Fi menu support.

(More customer reviews)Product works exactly as advertised, and is very convenient to have and I'm glad I bought it. It's easy to configure and exceptionally easy to use.
But I have two gripes about issues that I didn't discover until after I got it (but which are well-documented on Eye-Fi's website):
1) With my camera (a Nikon D40), the camera won't leave the power on to the card long enough after a picture is taken, so the pictures don't get uploaded. The workaround is easy - turn the camera off and back on. But it's annoying to have to remember to do that, because that's the point of the card - to not have to think about it. (Of course, this is really Nikon's fault, not Eye-Fi's, but it affects me nonetheless.)
2) The Eye-Fi has a feature that lets it upload both to a home computer and to a website (like Flickr or SmugMug). I knew that the Eye-Fi supported doing the uploads also to an FTP site, and I planned on using that feature to let it upload pictures to my home web server from anywhere I could get a wi-fi connection. It turned out that there were a number of problems with that plan:
a) It only uses "FTPS" while "SFTP" would have been much easier for me to set up, and much more secure
b) The pictures all go through Eye-Fi's servers before going to the FTP site, which I didn't realize (and this part isn't especially well documented), and I'm not OK with that
c) It takes a long time for the pictures to actually make it from the card to Eye-Fi to the FTP server, so it was very hard to trust that the system was working reliably
d) There's no way to tell the Eye-Fi to then NOT upload the pictures via my home wifi, if they were uploaded via FTP.
So I just don't use the "upload via FTP" feature, and that's fine.
So like I said, it's a good product that does what it says, so if you just want it to do the base things, go for it! On the other hand, if you have a D40, or you want to use it to upload to a home FTP site, consider this review before doing so.

(More customer reviews)This is a real nice, compact lens that turns your Coolpix into a powerful telescopic camera. The only drawback I find so far is that the instruction sheet that comes with it is only in Japanese. Setup is intuitive, but I would like to know if there are features or capabilities that I might be missing. Requests to Nikon USA were met with the reply that this lens is not sold in the USA, so there is no English language instruction sheet. Excuse me? I just bought one!... and not from some obscure source...from Amazon!
Still, I can set it up and use it. But I would like to know a little bit more about how yo get the most out of it.

(More customer reviews)I read all these reviews and cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME understand all the crying and whining about the WiFi mode. I keep hearing how "complicated" and "annoying" it is, but this is just plain WRONG. I actually set my WiFi up yesterday, and do you want to know how long it took me? About a minute. Pop in the setup CD, click "wireless setup only", plug your camera in by the USB cable (you need only do this the first time to set up! The setup CD will give you all the directions, just follow along), install it (takes all of a few seconds), choose your connection mode, name, and icon, and you're DONE. Then unplug the USB cable (you now no longer need it!), rotate the click-wheel at the top of the camera to wifi-mode, click "ok" and VOILA (you'll see the WiFi antenna flash blue). Easy as that, and it will download all of the images in your camera at a fast speed without any wires needed. How in God's name are people making this out to be a big deal?
Read your manual and you'll be fine. I did my homework for literally months and ended up choosing this model. I know cameras and this is easily the best deal for the money. Do get familiar with the scene modes, they're absolutely phenomenal and there is something for every shot and angle. Each scene mode has a choice of 3 different effects, which is really nice. The variety of shots you will be able to take is second to none. 5 MP is a perfect compromise for image quality, resolution, and price. Nikon as always is top-rate. Photography is something that seems to run in the family and when my grandfather approved this camera, I knew it was truly great.
The screen on this thing is AMAZING. 2.5 inches! The loss of the viewfinder is something you won't even notice, the LCD is a far more accurate tool anyway. Erasing pictures is simple, operating the zoom is a piece of cake, and the Zoom Nikkor lense is one of the best on the market, (along with the SchneiderKreuznach lenses on the Kodaks and the Carl Zeiss lenses on the Sonys). Nothing against Canon's Elph line because they're amazing, but the lense on the Nikon is better and I honestly feel that the Canon models are overpriced. Ever picked up an SD400 or 450? They feel far too tiny and almost flimsy. The SD500 and 550 are a bit better, but there's virtually NOTHING to grip. Trust me, when you want to really focus on a subject and get the perfect shot, the LAST thing you want is not to have a firm enough grip on your camera and have it slip. This also increases the likelihood of dropping it, which is never a good thing! Some complain that the red-eye reducer takes too long. The flash will go off three times in red-eye-eliminator mode, so if you're taking a picture of your dog, turn it OFF, (because the subject will have moved by then). For people though, it will be fine. The P2 comes with great software and it will take all of 5 seconds to remove red-eye manually once uploaded if the time before the final flash goes off bothers you too much. I've heard whining about the P2's size...why? Pick one up if you can look at one in person. They're wondefully compact yet still have a heft to them, and a very substantial hand grip that doubles as the battery casing. It's all metal and beautifully designed, the worksmanship speaks for itself. Nikon is a great choice, and I also recommend Olympus and Kodak (Kodaks are the king of easy-to-use cameras).
Even full price for this camera is worth it (400 dollars), though you'll see it advertised from between 250-350, which are very fair prices. You're going to love it, it's a very capable little machine that will take you gorgeous pictures. Nothing is off-limits and there is a scene mode for any situation. I have NO regrets. The rechargable battery is good to have and will save you money. I HIGHLYYYY recommend you purchase LCD screen covers to protect your very-large LCD screen. These can be bought on Ebay in packs of 3 for about 10 dollars with shipping.

(More customer reviews)The charger works but the battery fit is clumsy. Battery charging indicator is green when the charger is not connected to the outlet. Turns red while charging and amber when charged. I don't feel there is a cutoff when the battery is charged so I just unplug it. Works fine with the D70 battery. It may or may not overcharge since there is no charging cutoff.
