(More customer reviews)I lowered my pride and bought a third party lens. I have been horribly dissapointed with third party lenses in the past, but this lens is increadible! its very sharp and has less distortion than my 18-70mm nikkor AF-S DX lens! this lens has permanantly replaced the kit lens on my D70. I have been using this lens for about a month now and I the only complaint i have is minimal ghosting in direct sunlight. this is easily cured with a well placed hand. I can block all ghosting without getting my hand in the picture even at 12mm. i dont use the lens hood, so I dont know how effective it is. this lens is large and it will cause horrible shadows with the built in flash or an attached speedlight. it will also cause shadows while in commander mode with a wireless set up. this is not a concern for me. I simply hold my speedligh in front of my built in flash in commander mode when ever I need a flash. I have used a nomal thickness UV filter with this lens (hoya 77mm) and i could see no distortion at all at any settings. I am a diehard nikkor fanantic, however, I am very impressed with this lens. I would definently recommmend this lens over the poorly built $1000 nikkor version.

Kowa 615-900 PRO 700 DX Titanium Alloy Tripod Leg Set (SLIK) Review

I have a Canon S3 and find it is perfect for my level of shooting (also have a Canon T70 with multiple lenses and Panasonic G320 digital video that I use on tripod, but I prefer the S3). Based on internet reviews, I ordered the Slik Pro 700 Dx with the 800 Ball Head. First, the tripod is massive! It is really made for much larger cameras than mine, too heavy to lug around while playing tourist. Having said that, I now do not want to take pictures without it. I am 6'2", and this thing easily rises over my head. It is solid and stable, and well made. Each leg is independently adjustable for height and angle. I can hang on this thing for shooting without worry. Center column locks with a twist ring, which I find to be much better than a geared column. The tripod comes with sponge like grips not shown in the picture that make it very comfortable to use. The round tubes are grooved to prevent twist, which adds to the stability. Solid rubber feet on the ends. Open with camera mounted, it does not feel heavy, and the included travel bag make carrying it easy enough for field trips. Matched with the 800 Ball Head, it makes a great tripod. I only regret having used a cheap tripod for so long before stepping to the real thing.

Canon Professional Gadget Bag 1EG Review

(More customer reviews)This is a solid bag, well designed and assembled. Very flexible interior comparment components. Easy to access external pockets with solid zipper action. Quick release clips for main flap are secure but easy to open and close with one hand. Strap is comfortable and configured in a way that keeps the bag upright when open, even while you wear it. The bottom is rugged - I'm always confident that my gear is well protected. Details like zipper pulls, contoured shoulder pad, and handle grip are not overlooked.
However, I'm not sure what lenses they had in mind when they rated the capacity. I carry a single body, three zoom lenses (with hoods reversed), a flash, a doubler, and a few accessories on the inside. Granted, one of them is a fairly large 70-200 2.8 with tripod ring on. I can't imagine putting much more in unless I was going to pack it for long-term storage.
The outside pockets are very useful and make extra batteries, memory cards (film), filters, and other accessories easy to access without compromising security. There are also two handy removeable zipper pouches that attach to the inside top with velcro.
Plenty of bag for me. For situations where you want to carry a similar set of gear, it could be a great bag for you.

Sandisk 8GB Extreme CF memory card - UDMA 60MB/s 400x (SDCFX-008G-P61, Retail Package) Review

(More customer reviews)I'm using this CF card with my Canon 40D. Previously I was using 4gb Lexar 300x cards, (equivalent to about 45mb/sec) which also work just fine, but they're only 4gb each. I found myself wanting more memory and a 3rd card to go between my two camera bodies (other is a rebel xti).
There's nothing at all wrong with this CF card, it works just perfectly. Not even a hiccup. So that's good.
I was hoping to be able to take much longer continuous sequences of photos on the 40D at 6.5 frames/sec. With the Lexar 300x cards I was able to get 15 consecutive images at full resolution raw+jpg before the camera's image buffer filled up. With this card I was disappointed to find that number only rose to 17. I later looked up the stats on the 40D and found that 17 consecutive full res images was the maximum the camera can do anyway, so I know the card is faster than the camera. If I was to get a faster card it wouldn't help me at all.
So, unless you really need to take lots of fast sequences at full resolution raw+jpeg, save yourself the money and get a slower 8gb CF card, like the 15mb/sec 8gb card for $30.
I'm happy with the card though. It won't be holding me back.

(More customer reviews)Beware that the 70-300mm lens is an old-design lens designed for a film camera that has been discontinued by Nikon. It does not contain image stabilizing "vibration reduction" technology. This is good from the price standpoint, but may surprise someone that thinks this is a kit Nikon put together. The result is you must use a tripod that would not be required for a current-design lens.
