(More customer reviews)Needed an extra set (pair) of binoculars to keep in the car for unexpected birding moments and I am pleasantly surprised and pleased overall. After I received them I did a comparison with a pair of Nikon Action binoculars with the same specs. These binoculars give just as clear a view, and it is a fine, bright, clear view. The only difference I noticed between the two binoculars is that the Nikon binoculars give a bigger field of view in the circle. That is, I noticed a slightly larger black circle around the edges of the viewing circle with these Pentax binoculars. Still, they seem excellent for my application and I was able to recently view a nearby loon and duck with ease. These binoculars also are very well designed ergonomically, allowing me to get a good grip on them when holding them.

Steiner 10x50 Military/Marine Binocular Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned this model of steiner binoculars for a little over 9yrs. During that time they have been from the tops of mountains to the bottom of death valley and most places in between, while being exposed to all the elements of nature during my adventures and have yet to let me down.I find them to be waterproof (or at least highly water resistant), rugged, convenient and always dependable. The only reason I don't give them a 5 star rating is that they tend to fog up (slightly) on the external eye piece lenses during cold weather, particularly if I'm overheated from my outdoor activities. Particulars of what I like about them are the rubber coated exterior for the sure grip it gives which doesn't transfer heat or cold to my hands and eyes during use plus it seems to protect them from the shock, drop, bang and bounce tests I've preform'd on them. They are fairly small and light weight (though thats a relative term). I do know they don't give me a pain in the neck from wearing them all day, and still afford me the range/field of view I desire without being cumbersome. I like the fact that once I've focused them for my use they stay that way, whether they've been around my neck while hiking/hunting/boating or I've just grabed them out of the glovebox for a look at something. They are quick on target while giving a wide field of view and perform excellently in low light conditions. Nuff said.

Bushnell Marine 7x50 Binocular Review

(More customer reviews)I bought these for triangulating my position on charts while sailing. I was a little worried that the internal compass would be hard to read as my 40+ year old eyes need reading glasses to read newspapers, computer screens etcetera. I have had no problem whatsoever. The compass is large and easy to read. The compass has an internal light which is a great added feature. I did an overnight sail in March and would have had a very difficult time guessing where I was without this feature. I never use the reticle for judging distance. I suppose I could get the instructions out to do the math but it hardly seems worth it because the compass allows me to locate my position very easily.

Steiner 7x50 Marine Binocular Review

(More customer reviews)I have the 7x50 Steiner Ralleye model, which appears to be identical to the Marine version. It is built like a tank and gives you a lot of confidence that it will hold up to abuse. In low light and night conditions this is an excellent performer. If you are using this is an area with a lot ambient light (such as a town) or moonlight, it will really bring a lot of detail out of the shadows and is a better choice by far then night vison equipment costing hundreds more. The 7x magnification is also a nice choice for avoiding lense shake. (I also have a pair of 9x40 Steiners, and that move from 7x-9x power is noticeable.) The 7x50 also allows you to better follow moving targets. The sport auto focus system works very well and the optics are excellent.
Edit: Oct 2009. I have acquired several other binos since this purchase and now primarily use a roof prism set of 10x40's as the weight is better and I wanted that little bit of extra power in the day light. However for low light and stability nothing beats these and they are still the best built pair I have. I would still recommend these.

(More customer reviews)I've had cheap Bushnell's prior to owning the Monarch 12x. I took them out to the back of the house as soon as they arrived. Wow, what a wonderful surprise. The crispness of the images even in fading dusk was amazing. Add to that the 12x magnification. I just learnt what it is to experience the pleasure of having a great pair of binoculars. And, the price is unbeatable. I'm totally satisfied.

Nikon 8208 Oceanpro 7 X 50 MM Binoculars With Compass Review

(More customer reviews)Even though, I don't have a lot of experience with good binoculars, the Oceanpro's quality, image brightness, field of view, and image sharpness is impressive. I bought the Oceanpro to replace a broken pair of Tasco 10x50 with the intention of getting a smaller but waterproof optics for general use and near water. Unfortunately, the Oceanpro is a fairly large and heavy binocular, larger than my old Tasco 10x50 and may tire your arms after extended handheld use. Due to the size and bulkiness, the optics are better suited for in- boat or vehicle use rather than treking around in the woods. The built-in compass will also be handy on the water and the backlighting works well in the dark. The included stiff-case is very large, similar to a big netbook computer case but, should provide more-than adequent protection from scuffs. The Oceanpro also comes with a big, bright-yellow, "floating" lanyard. An excellent value for the price.
