Great Bino for the price. Clear, easy to focus, good in low light, very comfortable eye cups that are easy to adjust works well with glasses. My only negative is the eye cover it is a loose fit and even though it fastens securly ti the neck strap it dosen't stay on very well.
I would highly recoment this item

I have owned inexpensive binoculars in the past but none of them even come close to the clarity, ease of use and amount of light that is transmitted to my eye. I've used my Nikon Monark binoculars frequently viewing wildlife, while boating and at Houston Texans game (seats in the upper deck)and am always amazed with the detail I can see. These are great binoculars and well worth the price I paid. I'm a happy buyer.

I bought these as a step up replacement from the Monarch 8X42 ATB's.
My wife decided she wanted the old ones which left me with the opportunity to get a new pair. After some debate about going to 10X I settled on these. They are brighter and than the 42's and just a notch more magnification. Size and weight is bigger but still not so much they get heavy for short periods as I use they for birding. They came with front and back covers and appear to be as rugged as the original pair which routinely road in the console box of the car. I have had them for almost a month now and well pleased with my decision to buy them. I rate a excellent value as I think I would have to spend considerable more to do better.Nikon 8.5x56 Monarch ATB Binoculars 7517

The Nikon Monarchs are fully loaded roof prism binoculars at an incredibly attractive price. Nikon's exclusive Eco-Glass (made without the use of arsenic or lead) is used for all lens and prism elements, and the prisms feature phase-correction and high reflection mirror coatings for superior sharpness and resolution. Every air-to-glass surface received multiple anti-reflective coatings, resulting in improved brightness, resolution and edge-to-edge sharpness.

I've had cheap Bushnell's prior to owning the Monarch 12x. I took them out to the back of the house as soon as they arrived. Wow, what a wonderful surprise. The crispness of the images even in fading dusk was amazing. Add to that the 12x magnification. I just learnt what it is to experience the pleasure of having a great pair of binoculars. And, the price is unbeatable. I'm totally satisfied.

I've had a pair of these for almost a year now and they are superb. The amount of light they let through is exceptional, particularly useful looking into dark bushes or late in the evening. In fact, they are almost brighter than my eyes I think. They are ruggedly built and yet not too heavy for carrying around. My wife loves them even more than I do they give her so much enjoyment at seeing things far away. The only issue I have with them are the caps for the lenses are a bit fiddly, particularly the eye-caps which don't clip on at all, but then I didn't buy them to leave the caps on...

When extreme low light performance is critical, nothing can compare to a set of really large objective lenses on a hunting binocular - unless it's that big glass on a Nikon Monarch ATB. For nearly a decade, Nikon's ATB (All Terrain Binocular) line has earned a reputation among serious hunters for superb optics, incredible ruggedness and extraordinary value. For 2006, Nikon furthers that reputation with the introduction of a new 56mm objective Monarch ATB that possesses the same features and specifications as its popular 42mm brethren - but offers the largest objective lens in Nikon's roof prism binocular line-up.
The objective lens size of the new 56mm Monarch also translates into an exit pupil designed to enhance low light performance.Nikon's 10x56 offers an amazing 5.6mm exit pupil and 31.4 relative brightness index.
As with the entire Nikon Monarch family, the new 56mm Monarch ATB line is fully waterproof and fogproof and features fully multicoated lenses for maximum light transmission and image quality. The new ATBs incorporate Nikon's exclusive Eco-Glass (made without the use of arsenic or lead) for all lens and prism elements.Prisms feature phase-correction coatings and high reflection mirror coatings for superior sharpness and resolution.
Ergonomic styling, mated with a rubber armored exterior, provides added shock resistance and a firm grip, wet or dry to the 7.8 x 5.7-inch Monarch.Turn and slide rubber eyecups, complemented by long eye relief, 17.4mm in the 10x56,allow the binocular to be used as comfortably by eyeglass wearers as those with uncorrected vision.A large central focus wheel and adjustable diopter make focus easy to achieve and maintain, even while wearing gloves.

Ultra rugged, rubber-armored design
Phase-correction coated high index prisms

Before I bought this great product, I did research online and found an excellent review by Cornell Lab of Ornithology. It puts Nikon Monarch ATB 8x42 in one of the best binoculars. I bought an 8x36, however, because the main use of it is to bring it with me for hiking including backpacking and I prefer a lighter, compacter one. I'm totally happy with my decision.
I believe all the lab review says about the 8x42 version are true with 8x36 as well. The image is very sharp and bright. The focal ring moves very smooth and you'll be amazed at how easily the image gets its focus.
It's so bright that you can see the colors of birds clearly in a cloudy old growth forest (I hiked with this in North Cascades NP, WA) when your bare eyes can't.
This product comes with a nice small bag with a hole to put your belt through, so I can attach it to my backpack.
I also recommend you read the Amazon reviews for the 8x42. The claim about the front lens caps is true with the 8x36. The instruction says you can attach the lens caps to the neckstrap but it's a bit troublesome (you need to do this every time as the neckstrap obviously does not reach the front lens), so I bought a narrow strip and attach the caps to it, then attach the strip to the neckstrap. Anyway, this is a minor thing compared with the overall quality of this product.
Coupled with my Nikon D80 (a digital camera), Nikon always gives you best quality products.

Nikon has mastered the art of effectively shrinking the size and weight of optics for the hunter without shrinking in the field performance-and the new 8x36 and 10x36 Monarch are no exception. Boasting a 367-foot field-of-view in the 8x and 314-foot in the 10x, Nikon has virtually matched the field-of-view ofits 8x42 and 10x42 models-but in packages that each weighs-in under 20 ounces and measures just over 5 inches in length.Like the entire Nikon Monarch family, the new 8x36 and 10x36 Monarch ATB are fully waterproof and fogproof and feature fully multicoated lenses for maximum light transmission and image quality. The new ATBs incorporate Nikon's exclusive Eco-Glass (made without the use of arsenic or lead) for all lens and prism elements. Prisms feature phase-correction coatings and high reflection mirror coatings for superior sharpness and resolution.Ergonomic styling, mated with a rubber armored exterior, provides added shock resistance and a firm grip, wet or dry. Turn and slide rubber eyecups with multi-click adjustments, complemented by long eye relief (17mm in the 8x36, 15mm in the 10x36), allow thebinoculars to be used as comfortably by eyeglass wearers as those with uncorrected vision. A large central focus wheel and adjustable diopter make focus easy to achieve and maintain, even while wearing gloves.. Like all Nikon binoculars, the Monarch ATBs are covered by Nikon's 25-year limited warranty and the exclusive No-Fault Repair/Replacem

This all-metal tripod adapter is also sold under the Pentax name for about the same price, and the Brunton name for MORE THAN TWICE the price! It works well on both my Nikon Monarch 8X42 ATB and my Pentax 12X50 PCF WPII binoculars, but I will not even attempt to mount my large and heavy 20X80 on this. The additional narrow allen-head screw is for the tight space between some roof prism binocular barrels; I have not had to use it, but it is nice to have. It screws into the base as shown for storage, but I wish there was another threaded hole to store the binocular's tripod mount cover, so both the screw and cover wouldn't get lost.
Nicely designed and reasonably priced (unless you get the Brunton brand). If you plan to mount binos with objectives larger than say, 60mm, you might want to look at a heavier mount, but I can certainly recommend this one for small or standard binos!

The Nikon Monarch ATB binocular tripod adapter allows you to use Monarch ATB, Action, Action EX and other binoculars with a 1/4"-20 threaded socket between the objective lenses upon a tripod. The knurled screwdriver-enabled knob makes attaching while wearing gloves easy, but they also include a thinner allen wrench knob, in case the regular knob interferes with the binocular's minimum interpupillary distance setting.
