(More customer reviews)These are considered the best view of any 10x made by many reviewers. See Better View Desired, etc. These are truly world class and compete well with the $1600 binoculars. I was surprised by the size, they are smaller and lighter than I imagined but the case is a bit large.
You will find that these excel in incredible sharpness - across the rather wide field of view. Lower CA than binoculars at twice the price (a function of great porro prisms). Flat field. Accurate color. And the wider porro design gives a feeling of depth and comfort of view that is unsurpassed.
A few negatives. Nikon is not very interested in this low selling line. They have not updated it with the click adjustable eye cups found in great binoculars. They do not make them water proof - which certainly they could even though roof prisms may be more challenging due to external focus. They do use the best metal housing - magnesium and have a great cover over the metal.
The typical price on these is $900 - which, to me, is a significant premium even though these are the best view in the under $2000 class. A great porro does not require the critical prism alignment of roof prisms. The eye cups are the old fashioned rubber. They are not waterproof. They focus to about 16.4' - which is not great but partially a function of a porro design. I think a premium is charged since it appeals to those who want the best in a retro design and they see the market as rather narrow compared to their LXL line. I wonder how much longer these will be made? But no worries, Nikon has an amazing warranty and replacement policy - even no fault currently for $10 I believe.
They are beautiful to me, easy to hold steady, 17.4mm eye relief(very good - although eyeglass wearers may prefer the new click eyecups). They take a wierd adapter for use on a tripod.
Anyone considering these should also consider the 8x32 Nikon SE. Most people prefer a 8x for birding since they can hold it steadier. I prefer 8x for most viewing also, but already have the Nikon LXL in that size.

Nikon 7218 Action 10 X 50mm Binoculars Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking for a medium-powered pair of binoculars for back yard astronomy. I had picked up a pair of Bushnell 10X50's for a few dollars less than the Nikon's and I was disappointed with the quality (there was something wrong with the optics... could not get them to ever completely focus). I promptly returned them and picked up these. What a difference! They were much clearer than the Bushnell's, and the focus is extremely sharp in the center. I take them out just about every night and they offer me a great view of the sky. If you're looking for a good all-around pair of binoculars that's worth more than what you're paying, look no further!

Nikon Action 16x50 EX ATB Binocular Review

(More customer reviews)Amazon offered the lowest price and the service exceeded my expectation. Have used them with excellent results at night observing the moon and stars. Much, much better than the much less expensive 10X50 I have been using. Also did some bird watching and found the brightness and color accurracy also much better than the cheaper pair. Another pleasant surprise was the Nikon allowed viewing at a much closer distance really making their range for viewing much more practical. The weight is about the same as the cheaper pair and I can only wish they were half the weight but this weight seems to be about the norm for this size pair. Plan to take them with me on all hikes and trips. They seem to be very well constructed and the rubberized coating makes them easy to use and comfortable. Recommend them to anyone looking for a pair in this size range.

Nikon 7245 Action Ex Extreme 10 X 50 mm All Terrain Binoculars Review

(More customer reviews)I took the plunge on 10x50's after reading a compelling article on the Cornell Ornithology website.
These Nikon Action EX 10x50 binocs are unusually well-crafted for a "low end" product. Their optics are sharp and bright, even at dawn or dusk. Their eye fatigue index approaches 18. Their ergonomics and controls are rugged and smooth. Most of all, the wiggle you'd expect from 10-power binocs are rarely a problem here because the frame is lighter than most products in this price-range. Indeed, without a harness or monopod, you can watch a Bald Eagle fish the surface of a river for a quarter-mile and not miss any of the action.
While I use these primarily to view raptors at distances of 500+ feet, they focus very clearly at 27.5 feet, too. Whatever the distance, the view is bright, the colors generally vivid and the detail superb.
That is not to say that Leica wouldn't produce a superior product; but at a fraction of the price, nearly 50% off retail, they are wonderful. Keep a pair of 8x42 binoculars on-hand, especially if songbirds are your passion; but if you expect to do some long-distance viewing, these Nikons are a sensible buy.
