(More customer reviews)As a dentist, I take a lot of intraoral (macro) photographs. I have a Minolta X570 as my main camera and recently added the Canon Rebel Ti. I agree with the user who recommended that you read the manual several times -- it took me three "reads", with the camera in front of me, to really grasp the "creative modes" -- but the effort is well worth it. Yes, you can use the camera forever on the fully automatic mode, but learn (at least) the following:
-- AEB (auto exposure bracketing): the Rebel Ti will take one shot at exact metering, then one shot stopped down and up (you decide the bracket range). One of them will be the "money" shot.
-- multiple exposures: it sounded hokey to me initially, but the ability to superimpose images is fun to experiment with and yields surprisingly good results.
A-DEP (automatic depth of field): this one is worth the price of admission! When subjects are at various focal lengths from the lens, use this feature. The Canon's brain will determine the nearest subject and farthest subject (as covered by the seven autofocus marks in the viewfinder) and compute the ideal shutter speed and aperture necessary to render all in focus.
**WARNING** If you buy the Rebel Ti kit at a warehouse (Costco or Sam's), check the lens -- it probably has the designation "III" on the front. The one from Amazon (and camera stores) has a "II" on the lens ring -- according to the Canon EOS website, the II has more elements and better specs than the III. If you can find a Rebel Ti kit with a lens marked "USM", that one is better still -- but the kit price will be ...more (and I doubt that the optical quality difference is even noticeable).

Canon has once again raised the bar in the world of 35mm SLRs with its EOS Rebel Ti. Canon claims the Rebel Ti has the fastest autofocus (AF) in its class, which should increase accuracy and precision for shooting at a real-life pace. A built-in flash pops up easily for shooting in low-light situations, and its extended arm reduces red-eye effect. The included EF 28-90mm f4-f5.6 standard zoom lens is an ideal all-around lens for wide angle to medium telephoto photography.
Fast, accurate, and flexible, Rebel Ti's three autofocus systems (the camera chooses the best one automatically) free you to concentrate on your composition and to just have fun. Seven focusing points cover an area wider than any other camera in its class, letting you place your subject off-center or even focus on the area covered by multiple focus points.
The glare-free laser matte viewfinder displays seven wide-area focusing points, which are clearly superimposed to guide composition. There's also a dioptric adjustment so that prescription glasses can be removed for up-close comfort. The extralarge LCD panel is illuminated for clear viewing whatever the lighting conditions.
You can rely on Rebel Ti's automatic exposure system for professional results, but the camera's special exposure controls give you lots of room for experimentation. With the camera's multiple exposure control, you can place up to nine images in a single frame for impressive surrealistic compositions.
Shooting feels natural because the shutter button, AF point selector, main dial, command dial, and even the LCD panel's buttons are all within reach for one-handed operation. The command dial has seven preset image controls for work in various common shooting situations.
The lens mount is solid stainless steel to handle Canon's full line of world-renowned lenses. A built-in, automatic pop-up flash eliminates guesswork. It recycles for action quickly, and with a red-eye reduction lamp built right in, images are natural and flattering.

EDIT - I've now had this grip for almost a year and still love it, particularly after being corrected by subsequent reviewers regarding battery back up and, as a bonus, the original battery cove/door storage.

Due to the convenience of deleting unwanted photos and inexpensive media storage, we take a lot more photos than the film era. Today's digital camera puts a lot of stress and loading on the battery, hence the battery grip becomes an essential accessory to most of us. (More customer reviews)I just purchased the Nikon S4000 from Amazon and it was real slow and took FOREVER to save a picture or delete a picture. I was going to return the camera but decided to do a little research and found I had a SLOOOOOW memory card. I did my research and found the Sandisk Extreme was one of the fastest on the market and at the price it was $18.00 cheaper that Best Buy. Got it yesterday and WOW, what an improvement. It was not my camera that was slow, but my memory device (I had a 2 GB Kodak, which gave no speed rating.) What used to take 8 seconds between shots is now less than 2 (on picture review mode, so I can see what I shot)..that is at the 12 Megapixel setting. If I lower the setting it is less than a second. What used to take 4 seconds to erase off the camera now happens in the blink of an eye. Well worth it and I have now been saved the hassle of returning the camera.

(More customer reviews)I bought this when I had my Canon Digital Rebel XT about a month ago. Before I bought this, I had another case from another brand, which was getting old. So I looked into Case Logic because I've bought a lot of their products before and I know that its always quality stuff. This case was no exception. When I got it, it looked a lot smaller than I had expected (in a good way). It was definitely smaller than my previous case. I was worried at first that It would not fit my camera and kit lens (18-55mm) like my previous case. But to my surprise, it fit even better! It managed to store my camera with the kit lens on, the battery charger, body cap, data cable, memory card box and the case strap which I had not yet attached to the case. All of this fit very comfortably, and there is still room for a little more stuff. The little zipper compartment on the front flap of the case is still empty. Though to be honest, I don't see much fitting in there anyway. A memory card or two at the most. Maybe something flat. The only downside is that it does not fit my camera manual. It is a bit too big for the case. But I'm sure not everyone usually walks around with their manuals! I have a slight case of OCD, and I just like having everything to do with my camera in one place, you know?
Three days ago, I upgraded my DSLR to the Canon 20D. This camera also still fits in the case with the kit lens on. With this camera though, the fit is a lot more snug since the camera is a lot bigger than the XT. But it still fits, and closes as well as when I had the XT in there. So I am totally satisfied with it! Even if I upgrade to a bigger case, it will definitely be from Case Logic. The build quality is excellent. Soft and padded in the important areas, and slightly more stiff on the flap area. It has a very nice color scheme too. Highly recommended!

I've had this case for almost a year now, and I've cycled through DSLRs like nobodies business. So apart from the XT and the 20D I mentioned above, I've since used this case for a 30D and now a 40D (soon a 60D). All of them have fit ever so perfectly with no space for it to move around. I've taken this case with me to the beach, road trips, the Niagara Falls and other random places! So its safe to say that this case has been tested, and guess what. It looks BRAND new even today. This case is SUPERB.

Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I spent several weeks reviewing the REBEL XS vs it's many 10 MP adversaries, I even checked it against the ultra zooms as I wanted the convenience of video as well, but too many good things stood out with this camera and so I decided upon it. I bought the rebel XS and after days of dirt testing this camera I've found it a beautiful experience.
Now I'm a professional videographer attached to a tv station in Trinidad & Tobago, my purpose for this camera was the need for a quick sharp still shot camera that would be impressive under low light and still capture impressive portrait shots to be used for my website and for large prints. I didn't want to shell out over a $1000. US for a camera body.
What is tagged by Canon is true: The full auto mode is truly accurate and gives excellent shots always, it makes photography so easy for a beginner or intermediate. The portrait mode isn't blurry, images are clean, nicely toned, excellent in quality for large size prints. The P ( program mode) I like alot at first because this mode sets exposure so nicely I found it addictive. I shot alot of night pics of cars on a freeway, with bright, sharp, lively colours emerging. Night pics at 800 iso had very very very little noise, and I mean I was searching the pics on 15" monitors for reason to complain, but was really impressed.
The auto focus is really quick. Th XS comes with "only" a 7 point auto focus system compared to the XSi 9 point, forgive me when I say there may be no need for another 2 points when the camera focusses so quick and so accurately. I have not gotten a soft image when shot with the auto focus operating.
Now for those point and shoot cams that boast about "face detection"....5 faces...6,7, some even 15. I also have a 10 mp ultra zoom, this simply matters little if not at all, if the focussing ability of the camera is poor or average, and given the "average lens" quality they're made of.
I have learnt clearly that a 10 MP ultra zoom simply cannot compare to a 10 MP D SLR...chalk and cheese.
I also bought the Tamron 70mm - 300mm, F4-5.6 telephoto/ macro lens. No vignetting at either end of the lens.
Auto iso is simply magnificent, have not taken a shot where the camera over estimated or underestimated the iso levels.
The Manual mode of this camera is the most impressive for me. The rebel XS via various magazine testing has come up faster than it's other 10 MP rivals when it comes to fps shooting, and burst images. It really does shoot 3 fps consistently, it shoots 2.3 fps in low light, worst case is over 1 fps all at 10 MP quality.
I haven't used a lower quality since, given I bought a Transcend 8GB SDHC card storage is not an issue.
Most of my shooting has been at night, for the little done in daylight, it has been amazing. Colours are very bright, depth of field very very nice. Macros works well. Image optimizer simply shocked life out of me. I was in a shaded area and without flash it really improves the subject without over blowing the background, stuff that is almost impossible on point and shoot cams.
Stuff I disagree with from the "reviews" : 1- "The camera feels cheaply built"....simply wrong, nothing is shabby, buttons are actually easy to press, doesn't have cheap clicks to them, the lens mount has a secure feel to it, and a proper snap when it is set. Battery compartment is certainly secure. Your finger must intricately open the door for entry, won't be an accident issue. Rubber door at a.v. ports snap in well. Rubber grip is firm enough, smooth enough to not irritate your hands.
2- " XS is "overpriced" compared to the XSi.....Xsi shoots slower than the XS, XSi picture quality is equal to the XS even though the XSi is 12 MP. The XSi may be the 3" LCD and a few other upgrades, but these upgrades don't add up when the picture is taken and the quality of both cameras match alike. I may have chosen the XSI if I wanted to spend the extra $150. u.s but for the lesser price, I'm yet to regret.
3- "The XS "only has a 2.5" LCD compared to a couple of it's rivals having 3" LCD's". I can see every thing clearly with this screen, even with Histograms, and grids onscreen. If LCD's get much bigger then canon may need to install a tv tuner as well....the 2.5" is more than sufficient.
4- "The XS doesn't have SPOT METERING compared to the XSi, so this is a big issue"- haven't encountered a reason to complain yet, after 500 night shots and 200 day shots.

THE DOWN SIDE: the EOS software for uploading the photos to computer, and remote controlling the cam via computer is AWFUL. It's a task to upload, as it is beach balling when you hit "upload". Digital professional software is non responsive. I have not been able to use the software past the install point. Mac version here.
Better use i-photo and photoshop.
I highly rate this camera, and as a videographer who's accustomed to t.v. broadcast quality the REBEL XS is worth it, and since canon is so intent on pushing the rebel XSi they have significantly lowered the price on the XS.....I recommend people buy the XS and get a good lens with the discount earned. The trick is in the lens and the user, and lesser the camera.
