(More customer reviews)When shopping for digital cameras I looked at the Nikon CP5700, Olympus C5050, Nikon CP5000, and the Canon G3. Yes, all cameras except G3 were 5mp but I was looking for a lot more than just Megapixel power.
Not only was I was shopping for a camera that would suit MY casual and artistic photographic needs, I had to keep in mind that my fiance wanted to use this camera as well. Her main focus was having a camera that is easy to understand and use.
The Nikon's are great cameras. + They have great optics (CP5700 has great optical zoom)and features, not to mention take great pictures. - The drawbacks were that they were not user friendly for the casual photographer, the LCD screen is a little too small, CP5000 does not take photos in RAW format.
Olympus C5050 is a very solid camera with a metal body. + Takes sharp 5mp photo's, has great features and relatively easy to use. - I didn't care much for the tilting LCD screen, it seemed very limited and not very usefull. Photos had some artifacts and noise. My fiance just didn't like the way it felt in her hands.
We also looked at the Fuji FPs602. Nice Camera but doesn't take as sharp as pictures I thought they would, and again... fiance didn't like the feel.
The Canon G3... 4mp, 4X optical zoom, takes absolutely beautiful photos with detail that challenges all of the above 5mp cameras, easy to understand and use (has a great swivel LCD screen), a LOT of features and add-on options, comes with great software (not to be overlooked), and last but by far not least, received my fiance's stamp of approval (two thumbs up!)
A LOT of research went into digital camera's before I made this purchase, and hands down, the G3 had everything I needed plus more. The other cameras were great and I'm sure many people will beg to differ from my observations, but to each his/her own. I have no buyers remorse with this baby, and I never will.
Always remember, cameras don't take great pictures, people do!

Kata KT DC-445 Digital Case (Black) Review

My intention was to find a bag for short trips with limited amount and minimal weight of equipment.
For these trips I need camera, flash and two zoom lenses. Very important detail: My camera and I agreed that we'll never leave home without battery grip attached so bag must be wide enough to accomodate Nikon D700 + Nikon MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack.
My choice of lenses was Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 and Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR. Of course, I wanted to keep at least Tamron 28-75 mm attached and still have some space for Nikon SB-800 AF Speedlight Flash. I'm glad to report that DC-445 satisfied almost all my needs: Camera sits with attached Tamron looking down, flash and 70-300mm are very snug into their quarters.
Some spare space under camera is used for Black Rapid Straps RS4. That's it, problem solved.
However, some cons are still there: DC-445 is not tall enough to store D700 with Nikon 70-300 mm attached. Actually, I can squeeze this assembly at a price of keeping the lid zip fastener partially open. Also, I personally don't like the two-side zipper, too much fuss to open. I prefer some secure buckle to be able to unfasten it quickly in case of need.
Bottom line: Nice bag for configuration I described, light-weighted, has soft and convenient shoulder strap and last but not least: Looks neat and well shaped.

(More customer reviews)I like the bag, it's well made. The yellow color inside is nice. However, I have a D40 with the 55-200mm lense and 18-55mm lense and this big is just barely big enough to camera and lenses in there. Otherwise, it's good.

(More customer reviews)This review is in response to recent price movements for this camera. It's now offered around two-thirds the MSRP. I don't expect the price to go back up too much. This is the same money as a good point-and-shoot. For that, you get a really lightweight SLR-style camera with pretty good ergonomics and good features. I had used Panasonic point-and-shoots for the last six or seven years and have always been really pleased with the performance and build quality. However, I wanted more detail in my pictures and better low light ability. This camera has a better flash, a bigger sensor (not in terms of megapixels, but in terms of physical size, meaning similar sized image files of about 5 Mb per file, but less useless noise). The user interface is good, allowing more experimentation than my old Panasonic point-and-shoots. I feel like I have some growing room. Also, I tried the Olympus PEN E-PL1 competitor and found the autofocus system incredibly annoying. It was slow OR constantly hunting loudly. I love the feel of the G10/G1 much more than the E-PL1 (or the GF1 for that matter - I was surprised by that).
The real thing that sets this camera apart is the interchangeable lenses. I was able to buy an Olympus 9-18mm lens to get breathtaking landscapes that are 18mm equivalent ultra-wide, without stitching together pictures to make panoramas.
So why only four stars? Well, I prefer the G1, which this camera is supposed to replace. That camera may still be available from Amazon for a very good price not too much more than this camera. My advice: buy the G1. It has a better screen (with articulation), better viewfinder (with a nifty sensor to detect when you're using it!), and a much better kit lens. I know the lenses look very similar and the one for the G10 is lighter, but it's a significantly worse lens. Even I can tell the difference! Since the whole point of this camera for me was to buy good glass and occasionally replace the body, it did not make sense to invest in this particular kit.
That having been said, if you can't do the extra sixty dollars or need a movie mode, this is still a great camera. I'd also have a look at the GF1, although that's the price that the G10 is supposed to be. Both make the G2 look conspicuously over-priced right now, although that touch screen is cool. As far as lenses, I recommend the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 lens and the Olympus M Zuiko 9 - 18mm (don't worry about lack of image stabilization on this one).
