Trying to use the DP1 as a point and shooter will result in the same slowness to focus etc that plagues all compacts. This camera is best used as some Leica owners use Leicas - manually preset focus and be ready for instant use. You should also turn off the lcd and the sleep mode and keep the camera ready to shoot. For this the viewfinder is required. A little expensive but it gets the job done.

(More customer reviews)I went to the local pro camera store looking for a Tamrac 5625 Pro Digital Zoom 5 Case or Zoom 7. The salesman suggested that I also look at the Think Tank Digital Holster 20. I'm glad I did.
The Think Tank holster seemed much more refined for about the same price. It attaches to your belt a lot easier and it will stand up on the nose.
A Nikon D300 with 28-200 mm lens fits just fine along with a neck strap. There is one pocket on the outside of the case for a spare battery and memory card. The case has very rugged zippers.
One of the things I liked best about the Think Tank compared to Tamrac was the carrying handle. The Think Tank handle was comfortable, the Tamrac NOT.
I bought a nylon strap to use as a belt which works nicely. I'm very happy with this product, after searching for a long time. Rejects include the awful Nikon leather case, which is very stiff and heavy and has no belt loop.

(More customer reviews)Lens hoods or shades are used to prevent flare from light sources at close angles to the shooting axis. They are usually necessary on telephoto lenses. Using a hood on a wide angle lens can cause vignetting, which is why 'petal' style shades, with the corners cut out, are used on shorter lenses. (Not just because they look cool.)
If you've never used a rubber lens shade, here are a few things you should know:
1. Even when collapsed, a rubber lens shade acts as a bumper to protect the lens from banging into things. This is especially important on long lenses.
2. The hood is useful for shooting through glass by eliminating reflections, even from your own flash. You can angle the lens a little without losing the contact.
3. The hood can be shaped to fit into special situations and will bounce back.
4. Adding or changing filters can be accomplished without removing the hood from the lens.
ABOUT THIS SHADE:
A very good shade for the money. The threads fit smoothly on both the lens and filter sides. The rubber is flexible, but rigid enough to keep its shape. The hood is configured in a Z-fold which gives you different degrees of shading.
BUT: The hood is too deep to use on shorter lenses without vignetting. Also, it sticks out about a 1/2 inch from the lens, making the lens an inch wider at the front. You might have issues with fitting into some holster style camera bags.

I tested it on a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens mounted to a Digital Rebel XTi, and there was no vignetting of the image. It seems to be durable even tough it is made out of plastic. The box is compact enough to justify storing the hood inside of the box within my camera bag. Considering that other hoods cost almost twice as much, this one is a bargain.

(More customer reviews)Rubber hoods used to be really popular in the 1970s before the petal-type hoods were included with the lens by the manufacturer. So I guess its sort of a "throwback" to the old days (is film next?).
One thing this item has is threads in the front so that you can replace your lens cap or perhaps use a filter. Many rubber hoods do not have this feature.
While it might be argued that the filter belongs on the lens before the hood to eliminate vignetting, threads are usually desirable on the front as well to keep from losing your lens cap (at least for Nikon lenses).
This hood is not for super wide angle lenses - it is for standard or telephoto lenses. If you need a wide angle hood, there are wide angle versions of these rubber hoods.
Many times 3rd party photo products are junk, but this one is perhaps an exception as it is made pretty well.

Opteka 52mm Screw-in Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood / Shade Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this hood for use with a DX-format Nikon 18-55mm VR lens (27-82mm film equivalent) to accommodate it's relatively large magnification range. The hood threads on easily, and still provides threads on the front end for attaching more filters if you choose to keep the hood on all the time. The hood is easily adjustable into 3 positions, which is a nice feature. I found that when the hood is pulled all the way back and I have another filter attached, I see some vignetting on the wide end (f < ~30mm). If I remove the filter, it's all good. So if you're a "no protective filter" type, this is a moot point. But, if you're accustomed to having a protective filter in place, you'll need to remove it to avoid vignetting for wide-angle shots with this hood. For normal to telephoto lengths, this hood is great, and should be no problem with additional filters in place - you should always be able to adjust the hood length to accommodate.

What happened when i first took it out of the package was i rolled/pushed it out the wrong direction and the metal ring that holds the rubber came loose from the hood thus the hood lost it's shape. Took me a little time to get it back on, but now i know. wonderful to shield your lens from flare and adds protection if you randomly bang your lens against something like i do carelessly from time to time
