I use my computer for a lot of photography. I have an analog View Sonic 17" LCD screen. Since I was receiving print results from an online print service where the contrast and colors were different than what I had expected I purchased this affordable product. I found it very easy to set up on my PC taking up a USB port. After installing the software, you are prompted to calibrate the device with the monitor which takes about 5 minutes. There after the device sits in its cradle near your monitor measuring the ambient light every minute or an interval you can select to readjust the screen. After two weeks the software will prompt you to recalibrate. I've owned the product for nearly three months and I've been satisfied. It didn't screw up my monitor as I've heard about with other products. I have it set for Webbrowsing-Photo editing but you can set it for games. Quite honestly I have only tried it with one game and that it Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 and sometimes the contrast and colors are off (hence the 4 stars only.) Overall for my photo editing, it is a great little product at an affordable price.

CBL 110mm Color Balance Lens System Review

CBL 110mm Color Balance Lens System

I know there are so many light balancing tools out there that it seems that you can't go to a camera show without seeing one per aisle. But I really fell for this when I saw it at WPPI. Basically it is an incident meter. Hold it at subject position so it reflects to the camera the light falling on the subject. Shoot a target shot and capture it. The key over expodisc is that it measures the light on the subject NOT the light on the camera position. Also it is the only one that can give accurate readings in mixed light. I own it and shot with it. I also have seen Hanson Fong use it and really respect Hanson's chioces.

The CBL Color Balance 110MM Lens is a valuable tool for proper color balance and consistency. This 2-sided disc comes complete with a gray side and a white side, allowing you to use one side for proper color balance and the other side for proper exposure. You simply hold the CBL in front of your camera and either make an evaluation or take a white-balance-reference picture. You should assure that the subject's dominant light source is also falling upon the CBL. Thanks to its complex, varied collection of prisms and lenses upon the 'white' side, the CBL grabs a large mixture of the light source and directs it into the camera during the white balance evaluation.FEATURES:
Incident-Light Color Balance Capability for improved accuracy
Works with Most Lenses & Digital Cameras/Camcorders of a compatible size
Eliminates Post-Processing Fuss
110mm Large disc is suitable for professional lenses with large front elements
Durable, water-proof materials
Carefully-selected permanent tones of white and gray

GENUINE WhiBal G7 Certified Neutral White Balance Card - Pocket Kit (2.1"x3.3") Review

GENUINE WhiBal G7 Certified Neutral White Balance Card - Pocket Kit (2.1x3.3)

When I first got this card, I thought all my white balance problems were fixed. However, as I used it for a few months, it became clear that it is not a dummy-proof solution.
It is imperative that you get a shot of the card in exactly the same lighting conditions as the picture you want to adjust in post-processing. This can be a challenge if you're outside with your kids and you're poking in and out of buildings and the trees are casting deep shadows in an otherwise sunny day. You'd potentially have to get many card exposures for all the various light settings you encounter throughout the day. The immediate surroundings have a large effect, as well. Take the same sunny conditions, and pictures on a grass field will have a different tint than ones taken on parking lot or on a brick road.
I also noticed that chromatic noise skewed my post-processing attempts when I used my software's water-dropper tool. If I happened to pick a pixel that was actually a blurp of chromatic noise, then the WB got terribly skewed. So, I'd either have arbitrarily pick a pixel that looked grey to me or smooth the results with chromatic noise reduction. Best results are had with well-exposed, low-ISO pictures where the card shows up as a uniform, solid grey with as little noise as possible.
Though with the caveats above, I highly recommend this card. It's easy to carry and is a better WB solution than relying on in-camera settings or eyeballing it in post-processing (which works, too, if you can get the hang of it). Remember to constantly take shots of the card and using the lowest ISO and you should get accurate results in post-processing.
