The D90 comes with a detachable rigid plastic screen protector and I thought it was enough, but a bit of sand somehow got lodged between the protector and the screen itself, scratching both in the process. Next time I buy a new camera, I'll buy an adhesive protector right away.
This LCD protector kit comes with three pieces - a clear protective cover for the main D90 "monitor" screen, a clear cover for the top control panel display, and a paper "squeegee-card" for pressing out air bubbles after application. To apply, I thoroughly cleaned the camera with a clean micro-fiber cloth (this is key). Each cover comes with a clear backing and a paper tab to make it easy to separate the backing to expose the adhesive side of the cover. The covers themselves are somewhat rigid, so I was able to hold each cover by the edges between my fingers after removing the backing, taking care not to touch the adhesive side. Next, I simply lined up the bottom edge of the cover with the bottom edge of the monitor screen and gently rolled the cover into place. I used a rubber spatula to push out a few small air bubbles, and it looks perfect. You can barely tell it's there.
The smaller cover for the control panel screen was not a perfect fit, and that's why I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5. It was an easy fix, however. I was able to trim the piece to fit with a pair of scissors in about 1 minute. Again, I rolled it into place with minimal fuss. It's easy to pull the cover back up again if you don't align it perfectly the first time. Once applied, it looks like it's part of the camera.
Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and will definitely buy again.

One of the most important and enjoyable features of your digital camera is its LCD monitor. The multicoated surfaces of these LCD screens tend to be difficult to clean and, if left unprotected, can accidentally be permanently scratched or marred. It's not fun to have to compose and view your images through scratches haze or dirt.
The LCD monitor is also one of the most expensive parts of your camera to replace and will not be covered under warranty if scratched or marred.
