(More customer reviews)This is a two-piece adapter tube which is more usable and less expensive than the UR-E22 adapter offered by Nikon for its Coolpix P7000 camera. I haven't tried the UR-E22 adapter on my P7000 -- in fact, I haven't even seen one, but I was much less interested in trying a $49.00 plastic part than a $14.99 two-piece anodized aluminum adapter tube.
Here are the reasons I chose the third-party product:
1. Cost. $35 savings is nothing to sneeze at.
2. Construction. Anodized aluminum vs. plastic.
3. Size. The Nikon product is a 52mm adapter specifically designed for the Nikon wide-angle lens, while this product has a 58mm threading at the short (wide-angle) and long (tele) ends. The 58mm size allows for direct fitting of 58mm lenses and is less prone to vignetting and, perhaps, barrel distortion (fewer adapter rings necessary).
4. Availability. The Nikon product was on back-order at more than one store.
5. Usefulness. Nikon recommends you do not use the adapter for filters. This sounded odd to me, but I wasn't going to question the recommendation when this product was advertized as having normal 58mm threads.
6. Ready for tele. Because this product has the extender tube available, it was ready to go for use at the full extension of the P7000's lens. I was able to place a basic UV filter on the end of the tube to keep out dust, dirt and grime, while simultaneously being able to use the full zoom capabilities of the camera. Unlike the UR-E22, this product has not prevented or locked out the zoom. This may be a bit dangerous if you put a filter only on the shorter part of the adapter, but because of the second piece (extender) part of this product, I didn't have to worry about it.
I'm very pleased with the product, so far. The fit and finish were just fine, and the threading matches well with the lenses and filters I've tried on it. The only thing I'd ask for is to have the bayonet-mounted end be a bit tighter to the camera. I'm not concerned it will fall off, but there is just a slight amount of movement where I'd prefer to have more of a locked-down feeling. As this doesn't intefere with performance in any way, I don't see it as a defect in the product. A bit tighter, though, and I'd have put down 5 stars.
Due to the flexibility of use of this product, the metal construction, the good 58mm threading and the addition of the extender tube (as compared to the UR-E22), I'd recommend this very highly over the Nikon adapter.
