PNY 16 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card P-SDHC16G6-DVDC Review

I bought this card for a Canon HF10 and what a difference it's made in the video I can capture. I can now max out the specs of my camera, and do so with speed. So far I haven't lost a single frame, and the roomy 8GB gives me plenty of recording time. It's also a great card for dSLR cameras (Canon in my case). While it's not going to have greater quality than an average class 2 SD card, it records still images a great deal faster and has a lot of room to do so (something very useful if you save in RAW format).
My card was purchased directly from Amazon for under $50. Performance has been solid, and if the price levels out a little further, I'll buy another one.

Kingston 4 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card SD6/4GB Review

Kingston 4 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card SD6/4GB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I came here to post my review for the Kingston 8GB Class 6 SDHC Card. Then I realized that several products and reviews had been collected on this page. The Kingston 16 GB SDHC Class 4 Memory Card is also now being sold here. I actually own and use almost all the products listed here except for the 4 GB SDHC card from Kingston. I do have other 4 GB SDHC cards, just not that one. I will try to list as much info as possible to help all those shopping for one of these Kingston memory cards.
The 2 GB, 2 GB Elite Pro, and 2 GB Ultimate Cards
The 2 GB regular SD card from Kingston is pretty comparable to the Sandisk card, which I also own. It's a steady performer at a good price, still only around $10. Just for the sake of clarity, the technical details speed rating of 5 MB/sec read speed and 1.5 MB/sec write speed applies to the basic card. The Elite card is 50x, giving you up to 10 MBs read and 5 MBs write and the Ultimate card basically doubles those numbers.
The only criticism I can list about the basic 2 GB card is that in my Nikon camera I definitely notice the lag after taking pictures. That was the original reason why I stepped up to the Elite Pro and Ultimate Cards. With the Elite Pro I experienced only a mild improvement in the performance, but the Ultimate really gave me a noticeable improvement.
Is it worth it to buy a faster 2 GB card for twice or three times the price? I would actually say "NO" and here's the reason why. 2 GB used to be a lot of storage, but now 8 GB is the benchmark. 16 GB SDHC cards are soon to become common too. Most people who are buying 2 GB cards are doing so because they are basic users or have older devices that can't use larger SDHC cards. For that reason, few people will want to pay the extra cash at the 2 GB size. Get the basic card if you just need the largest compatible card.
My SDHC specific review points
As long as your devices are compatible with the SDHC format, 8 GB is the way to go. Granted 4 GB is a nice size too, but most users who need cards that are SDHC compliant are probably using it for RAW image storage on high end cameras. To me 8 GB capacity on this guy makes it perfect for high capacity storage.
The class 6 speed is the fastest speed available in mass market SDHC cards, meaning that you would have to step up to much more expensive professional rigs to improve upon the speed of this 8 GB card. Class 6 guarantees minimum transfer speeds of 6 MBs, but I've gotten speeds on the order of 20MBs writing and reading! Those are real world numbers I have been able to get. It should be noted that I buy a lot of external hard drives with USB 2.0 speed ratings of 480Mbs that have actual production speeds of less than this guy! That makes this card perfect for professional photographers storing pictures in RAW image formats.
The 8 GB SDHC Class 6 is on par with the Sandisk Extreme III cards that are about $15 more per card on average. If you don't have an SDHC reader, you may opt to get the package with a reader included to download your pics. Sandisk SDSDRX38192 Extreme III SDHC 8GB Card with MicroMate Reader
General SDHC and SD Card Tips
There are a few tips that I've learned the hard way through buying TOO MANY different memory cards.
1. Make sure your device is compatible with the card! Even in regular SD cards, some older electronics aren't compatible with that large of a size (2 GB). In terms of SDHC cards, make sure your camera or other device is SDHC compatible. SDHC is different from regular SD and only newer devices tend to have built-in compatibility
2. Once you install this in your camera or device, you will generally want to format the card with your compatible device's interface. That is because the standard formats for certain devices, particularly Canon, are different from the factory installed format
3. Just like your devices, most computer SD card readers are not compatible with the SDHC format. So use a card reader or download the pictures via USB connection to the camera with the card still installed.
4. For some reason, placing the card in the locked position allows some older laptops to still read it. This is just to be used in a pinch however, and it won't apply to all systems
5. If you did not properly format your card, you may be able to save things to it and then have them "disappear." If this happens to you, make sure you use the software recovery tools BEFORE you try to save anything else to your card. That way, you can retrieve your images without over-writing them.
6. Make sure you know what you are going to use this card for. Once you have set up everything and ensured it's all compatible, you still have to decide on speed. If you are using this for storing RAW images instead of JPEGs or HD video, step up to the faster class 6 speed format if you can afford it.
7. If you are going to pay more for a faster speed, make sure your device can benefit from it. I've read, for example, that Kodak cameras are set to a fixed voltage and cannot go faster than standard speed. So the extra cash spent on Class 4, 5, or 6 is basically wasted.
Conclusion
I've had good luck with all my Kingston memory cards. If you only can go up to 2 GB based on your device limits, save the cash and stick with the basic card. If you can use SDHC, the 8 GB SDHC card is awesome as long as your device is SDHC compatible. An SDHC card reader can be bought separately if your PC doesn't have a compatible slot. Make sure you review your needs; if you have a high capacity camera (10 Megapixels or more) and are storing videos or RAW images, the extra cash for the 8GB card is worth it.
Enjoy!

A-DATA 16GB Class 6 Turbo SDHC card with High-Speed 4-in-1 USB Reader. Review

A-DATA 16GB Class 6 Turbo SDHC card with High-Speed 4-in-1 USB Reader.
Average Reviews:

I bought the A-Data 16GB Class 6 Turbo SDHC card to use in my Canon PowerShot A570 IS camera. (Yeah, it's probably incredible overkill, but I really wanted the large memory capacity.) The card was purchased in June, 2009, and has been used extensively since then with no problems whatsoever.
On inserting the SDHC card into the camera, the card was immediately recognized and quickly formatted. The camera takes 7.1-megapixel images; this card has the capacity to store 5107 of the highest-quality photos or two-and-a-quarter hours of the highest-quality video (according to the camera display).
Regarding data-transfer speed, I attached the card to my Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop and timed how long it took to load the empty card with several files that totaled about 14.9 GB. When plugged into the SD/MMC slot, the transfer rate was 3.37 MB per second; when attached to a USB port (through the neat adapter that was shipped with the card), the transfer rate was 6.63 MB per second. As I understand the SDHC rating system, the USB transfer rate makes this a Class 6 card with a 40x rating - the lowest Class 6 rating. The card can be used for the Microsoft "Vista" Ready-Boost feature, if you are so inclined.
The SDHC card I received was manufactured in Taiwan and shipped mounted on a factory-sealed display card, on which the USB adapter was also mounted.
Before ordering this SDHC card, I read most of the comments sent in by other purchasers - particularly the negative comments. Considering the price of the card, I felt the benefit-to-risk ratio was great enough to make the gamble of purchasing this card worthwhile.

Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6-S5W Review

Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6-S5W
Average Reviews:

I purchased the 16GB version (Transcend 16GB SDHC CARD with Compact Card Reader) of this package a few months ago. The card was meant to be used in my Canon S5 camera. But I soon discovered that it works extremely well with the included card reader as an USB flash drive (much larger and faster than my SanDisk 4GB Cruzer Micro). So I ended up using it mainly for data backup and transfer between my laptop and desktop computers. The card has proven to be fast and reliable in the past 2-3 months of daily usage.
As first I was skeptical about Transcend's speed rating of 'class 6', which means minimum 6MB/S when writing. But my own benchmark results (see Customer Images) showed that this card is capable of writing typical photo files at 10.5MB/S - nearly twice its specified minimum data transfer rate. Just for reference, the Sandisk 8GB EXTREME III claims a faster speed of 20MB/S, but it costs about twice as much.
Considering its low cost and respectable speed, this Transcend card is an excellent buy. But please make sure that you order it from a reputable vendor only. Several reviewers who ordered the 16GB version from TheMemStore complained that they received some no-name card reader (instead of the Transcend DRS5). This may explain why some people have encountered problems when using this card.
[update on June 8, 2009]
I have purchased a total of three Transcend SDHC cards (two 16GB + one 8GB) in the past 10 months. They all worked perfectly so far. The second 16GB card is for use in my new Canon Rebel T1i/500D. I have heard that some other brands of 'class-6' cards cannot keep up with the camera in video mode, and will cause buffer overflow within a few minutes. But the Transcend card has no problems at all. I'm going to purchase my 3rd 16GB card next.
[Update on Sep 14, 2009]
I have highly recommended Transcend SDHC cards in the past, becuase they were much cheaper than Sandisk Extreme III (class-6) cards, and worked just fine in my applications. But in light of many complaints about Transcend card failures, and my recent finding that SanDisk Ultra II (class-2/4) cards are just as fast as Transcend 'class-6' cards, I must now recommend Sandisk Ultra II as a better and safer choice.

SanDisk 16gb Extreme 30MB/s Edition SDHC High Performance Card Review

SanDisk 16gb Extreme 30MB/s Edition SDHC High Performance Card
Average Reviews:

The card is big, reliable, and fast per the specs & the SanDisk brand name.
The card's speed would be useful in two cases - faster shoot rate when the camera can write 200x in continuous shooting, or faster download to computer when the card reader can read 200x.
Unless you checked either camera or card reader to go beyond 100x (e.g. Canon 450D does 100x top, see card readers in another review), a 16GB SanDisk Ultra II card would be a better deal - you'll get the same performance & card size for less than half the price.

Average Reviews:

I bought a Panasonic Lumix 14MP camera after my 7MP Sony focus stopped working. The camera needed some memory, so I started looking at all the options.
The Lumix does 720p video, which takes up a lot of space. Shooting video also requires a fairly fast transfer rate, so I started reviewing different card classes.
Class 2 - not fast enough.
Class 4 - maybe fast enough, but that 'possibly not' made me start looking at Class 6 and 10.
Class 10 - definitely fast enough, but way too expensive for what you get. I don't want to spend more on a memory card than I spent on the camera.
Class 6 - looks like the right speed and price-point for what I want.
My (then) fiancee and I were planning a trip to Hawaii, so I anticipated shooting many pictures and videos. 16GB should do.
When I popped the card in the camera, no formatting was needed, and it just worked. Great!
I shot a few pictures and video around the house.
I took the memory card out, put it in the SD card slot in my Dell E6400 laptop.
Copying the files from the card worked at about 15MB - 18MB/sec. Not bad, when the card shows 20MB/sec max speed.
I copied files to the card, and got roughly 12MB - 14MB/sec transfer rate. That's pretty good for writes to flash memory.
With decent transfer rates and the right amount of capacity, we went to Hawaii.
I shot multiple days of pictures and a couple 720p videos, never having to offload anything from the camera to the laptop.
After a week, we went to Kauai. We had a 1 hour helicopter tour scheduled the next day, so I decided to offload everything to the laptop so I could start with an empty memory stick.
During the flight, I switched back and forth between 14MP pictures and full 720p video. The camera was shooting something almost the entire hour, and I ended the flight with approximately ~50 pictures of space left. Nice.
Check out the final video here (view in 720p full screen for the best picture):
[...]
Overall, I am very satisfied with the memory card. It does the job, and I didn't need to spend the extra cash on the class 10 card. 16GB is enough capacity, although I would recommend 2 cards (and 2 batteries) if you are going to shoot 720p video for multiple days.

Patriot 8 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card PSF8GSDHC6 Review

Patriot 8 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card PSF8GSDHC6
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
tl;dr: Fast memory card, get it. Patriot is good. Still awesome after 6 months.
For those of you who are unsure of what card to buy/feel like brushing up on your memory standards:
SDHC was created as a successor to the SD (Secure Digital) and MMC (MultiMediaCard) formats. When the original SD format was created a while ago, its maximum capacity was 2GB. Since flash memory is so cheap now, you'll rarely find any SD card other than the maximum 2GB flavor around anywhere. Enter SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity). SDHC adds two main things to the former SD format:
-More capacity
-A minimum speed rating (aka 'Class x')
8GB is pretty much equivalent to the space of a double-sided DVD. Yeah, an entire double-sided DVD in the size of a stamp. 2000 moderate quality mp3's, 11 CD's, over 1100 12MP photos, and depending on your camera's format anywhere from 30 minutes (MJPEG probably) to 90 minutes (DIVX/MP4) of 720p HD video, over 3 hours of VGA video @ 30fps--it's pretty sweet.
Class is important here if you do any of the following:
-'Burst mode' photography (multiple frames per second)
-Large image file photography (dealing with RAW formats and such)
-30fps videos of any resolution, moreso with HD video
-Use this card as additional storage on your netbook.
This card is rated as Class 6. This means the MINIMUM transfer speeds, ie: reading and writing, happen at a minimum of 6MB/s (that's megaBYTEs not megaBITs per second). I tested this card with a few large file transfers from my laptop, and found the following (EDIT: scroll down a little for updated read/write speeds):
Write: 9.5MB/s avg
Read: 21.9 MB/s avg, 22.2 MB/s max
Access time: 0.7ms
This is fast enough for taking all VGA (640x480) video, about two higher quality 10MP photos every second, and most 720p HD (1280x720) video. It should be ample as extra storage in a netbook, though it's about a third the speed of a notebook hard drive. Class 6 is a sweet spot right now in terms of price/performance. Class 10 is much faster but of course much more expensive, and class 4 isn't that much cheaper IMHO.
A note on capacity: Capacity is measured really stupidly in all digital media storage (hard drives, memory cards, etc). All companies define a gigabyte to be 1000MB, and a megabyte to be 1000kb, etc etc. In reality it's 1024KB per MB, and 1024MB per GB. Not a huge difference, going from 1024 to 1000, right? Well, sort of. This card has a capacity of 8,027,897,896 bytes after formatting (manufacturers will say 'See! Over 8 billion bytes!),' which equates to 7.47GB. When you're wondering where the other 0.5GB went, it's because manufacturer conversions ate it. I hope they're happy. Ah well. Patriot is cool.
Anyways, this card is great. Patriot is pretty awesome with memory, and I see their customer service reaching out to people who have had memory mishaps all the time on here and on Newegg.
Hope this helps some people. Sorry if I confused anyone! Happy, erm, memory-writing?
That is all.::EDIT June 9, 2010::
That it not all! :)
Others have stated this card is slightly thicker than normal. I didn't notice originally but perhaps it's true. I have not encountered a reader/camera/computer where it didn't fit yet, so I'm not sure. FURTHER EDIT: It's the *exact same size* in every dimension (as far as I can tell) as three other SD cards that I have.
A note on read and write speeds that I posted earlier: you will probably see better speeds from your computer than your camera. Here's an updated comparison of its average performance after using the card for a few months:
In my camera:
Read: 6.2 MB/s
Write: 6.6 MB/s
In my computer:
Read: 21.4 MB/s
Write: 10.3 MB/s
Here you see the limitations of a camera's SDHC card controller. What this means is my camera can only talk to the card at a certain speed, but my computer (being more powerful than my camera) can talk to the card much faster. Despite this it's still plenty fast enough for 720p video in my camera. I have a simple point and shoot, so your camera might be different. What's the point of this? Honestly, not much. But I'm sure someone will find it interesting!
So 6 months and thousands of photos and videos later, it's still a fast and reliable card.
::Quick further edit June 12, 2010::
The card is more rigid and more well-built than my older Lexar/SanDisk SD cards. I can't take it apart without destroying it. It's not thicker, either.
*That* is all.

SanDisk Ultra 32GB SDHC Card (SDSDRH-032G-A11) Review

SanDisk Ultra 32GB SDHC Card (SDSDRH-032G-A11)

So far I've had no trouble with this card, but I am not happy with the product description which is incorrect. The current description reads:
"15MB/s Read/Write"
This is false. I was a bit disappointed when I saw on the item's package that 15 MB/s only referred to read speeds, with only 9 MB/s write speeds. That's still reasonably fast -- although I've seen other reviews which state that when tested the cards do not reach those max values, but I haven't tested mine.
Also, unclear from the description (and even the literature on the SanDisk site), is the fact that this is a Class 4 device. That is important to know for many devices such as HD camcorders, but not clearly indicated.
