This is a great camera bag, very sturdy with several extra pockets and even a small waterproof bag that comes with it, as well as a detachable strap. I got it for a Canon G11, which is too bulky to fit into the small digital camera bags. For the price, you get a lot more bang for your buck than than a comparable camera bag that I bought from a local camera store. It has a soft fabric interior and is very well padded to protect the camera. Plus the lilac color is unique and pretty. I took one star off b/c it is bigger than the camera, so a little extra bulk and a less snug fit than I would choose.

I brought this case for the Panasonic LX5 base on the dimension posted here on Amazon. The dimensions given are external and the walls of the case is very thick. The LX5 can BARELY squeeze in and almost imposstible to take it out. If your device fits this case, then I can highly recommand this over the zipper take cases. The zipperless design can saves you alot of LCD scratches!

Hi there, this is my review. I like squaretrade warranties, because they provide me peace of mind and the ability to put away far less money, as a disaster fund, than I would have to without one. I think that's great and I give this service 5 stars.
The low-life that made the first review should pay careful attention. The above is an example of a REAL *review*. Mr. "Sucker bait" just posted an empty ideology that is more-so meant for message boards where people complain about stuff that doesn't matter. If you don't like the idea of a warranty - DON'T BUY ONE!! I don't need to know that you disapprove of my purchase, based on your own sovereignty; and I certainly don't need to be bothered researching a 1-star review like that. If squaretrade ever turns their nose up at you, instead of paying out the money you were entitled to, THEN GIVE THEM ONE STAR - BUT NOT BEFORE!

Sony Alpha NEX NEX5A/B Digital Camera with Interchangeable Lens (Black) Review

Sony Alpha NEX NEX5A/B Digital Camera with Interchangeable Lens (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Sony Alpha NEX 5 as a gift for someone with lots of artistic ability, but who is intimidated by the typical DSLR. So far, it seems like a good choice.
For me, there were four possibilities:
- The Sony NEX 5
- Olympus E-PL1
- Panasonic GF1
- Leica X1 (I'm a "red dot" softie)
In retrospect, I wish I had spent more time thinking about a small DSLR, such as the Nikon D3100. The price difference isn't too great, and it would have opened up the door to a more versatile collection of lenses and accessories. The NEX 5 is about the most compact of any of the above though, so perhaps the size versus quality trade-off will come in handy. The NEX 5 body is about 10 ounces - half the weight of most of the others (although it gets closer when you compare camera plus lens).
In terms of construction quality, I found the Sony to be very solid and well made, even though it's more compact than its peers. The body is a mix of magnesium alloy and plastic parts, and it feels rugged and comfortable in my hands. To be clear though, the Sony lenses seem quite a bit larger than the competition, and the combination of a small body plus enormous lens can look quite weird till you get used to it.
Most of the camera's functions are only accessible through an extensive menu system. I use Nikon's DSLRs, but was able to adjust to the Sony menus pretty quickly. Still, I think the camera might have benefited from a few more user-assignable buttons that let you keep commonly used functions closer than wading through the menus. Otherwise, I found the operation pretty straightforward. The screen is large and easy to read, even in daylight. There are a lot of built-in tips to guide you through the more complex or seldom-used features...another plus.
Speaking of lenses, Sony has the typical fixed 16mm wide-angle and an 18-55 zoom, with a 18-200 zoom supposedly coming soon. To their credit, Sony also makes an adapter that lets you use their DSLR lenses on the NEX 5, although you lose autofocus this way. To me, this is a big plus, even without autofocus. I found the images created by the 16mm to be quite good, but the 18-55 seems a little soft in the edges. It's also a slow f/6.3 at 55mm, which makes it a challenge to use in dark locations. Also, because Sony is using a bigger sensor, the 16mm seems quite a bit wider (it's like a 24mm in 35mm film camera equivalents) - great for landscapes, no so great for portraits.
As for image quality, the Sony uses a full APS-C size sensor - the same one they use in their larger DSLRs - so it has an advantage over micro four-thirds and any point-and-shoot, especially at high ISO in low light. I found the photos to be about what you'd expect from any modern camera: sharp, contrasty, vivid colors and so on. More to the point, they're about the best you can get without breaking out a high-end DSLR and pro-grade lenses, or breaking the bank on something like the Leica M9.
The NEX5 also has extensive video capabilities, and seems to be one of the few that can zoom, adjust exposure and so on while taking a video. I don't use video much so I won't comment further other than to say that it seems well implemented, easy to use and it produces very high quality results.
Sony also bundles in all their usual wizardry, including their panorama and built-in HDR (High Dynamic Range) capabilities. You can do most of this in the computer after the shoot, but it's nice to also have this stuff in the camera to get a sense of how it might look. The NEX comes with a built-in flash that you can remove if you want to keep the weight down as low as possible. It's not the most powerful, but it's nice that Sony includes it with the camera rather than making it an add-on.
In conclusion, I like the Sony a lot...it's small, easy to use and takes about the best pictures I've seen for a total system weight under two pounds. My only gripe would be the relatively limited range of lenses and accessories available for it, but as a second camera for casual or travel use, it probably deserves a place in the bag.

It is a very good and simple to handle that rewards you with excellent pictures. Vibrant colors. I got especially good results for city landscape, indoor pictures and nature. I will give "A" for that. Though, the results for mountains and beach are just ok, maybe `B', "B+".

Canon G12 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.8 inch Vari-Angle LCD Review

Canon G12 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.8 inch Vari-Angle LCD

So I owned a G11 - and for whatever reason sold it a few months back. I have since tried the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 and Samsung TL500. This whole time I was searching for something better than the G-series - I only found it with the GF1 - but it is too large to be a compact.
I only give this camera 4 stars instead of 5 for the following reasons.
1. External Speedlite control - you still need a "Master" unit like a 580EX II or Canon STE2 to control external Speedlites. Canon should get off their butt in this area to compete with the new Nikon P7000. I almost considered going the Nikon route just to have that feature built in. Canon - start paying attention to what David Hobby says.
2. The screen is only 460K resolution. The Nikon mentioned above is 960K. The Samsung TL500 I mentioned above sports a beautiful AMOLED screen that knocks this one out of the park.
3. The pathetic optical viewfinder. You are catering to those people that say a camera MUST have one of these - stop it. You are wasting space with something so awful that even a disposable camera does better. I would rather have a higher resolution bigger screen (or a smaller camera) than this awful piece of warped tunnel-vision.
4. The rear control wheel is too small - enlarge it so it feels more like one of your DSLRs.
5. While the lens is gorgeously sharp (I mean competing with some of my L-lenses sharp) - f/2.8 to f/4.5 is slow.
6. The lens needs to be wider - 24mm f/2 (or even f/1.8 in the Samsung) equiv is the primary reason I tried the LX5 and TL500 before going back to Canon.
7. No microphone input for video recording.
8. Just too big and bulky - slim it down (but do NOT remove the articulating display).
So 8 knocks like that might sound like a big deal - but believe me when I say this - the camera is phenomenal.
Image quality is outstanding - I have had to process my RAW files with their converter (typically use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 - but even with their converter image quality is second to none in the compact world. I actually prefer to do product shots with a G-Series than my usual 5D2 kit due to the flexibility and increased depth of field. The lens is magnificently sharp. HD video results look pretty good - but not stellar. It'll do in a pinch - but its no camcorder replacement.
Operation speed is very very good. I have read a few posts saying that focusing speed is vastly improved from the G11 - I haven't found that to be the case but none-the-less its pretty good.
Construction quality is pretty good - but I don't like the rough textured finish as much as the smooth finish on the G11 - it somehow makes it feel cheaper.
Controls are absolutely second to none. Dedicated EV and ISO dials are wonderful. The new front control dial is great. The rear dial however could use a bit of an extension - hard to operate quickly with my fat thumb. The whole camera is a little fat - slim it down and kill the awful optical viewfinder. Would like a dedicated movie button like pretty much all of its competitors. The articulating display is fantastic - PLEASE include this whenever you update the 5D.
Value for the money is mostly good - but if you are like me and need on-camera control of external flashes add a whopping $200+ for the ST-E2.
All in all a fantastic camera - even if it is a minimal update to the G11.
Why I picked it over LX5 > See my LX5 review - but I didn't particularly like that camera. Biggest reason would the articulating display followed by the awful screen resolution when composing on the LX5.
Why I picked it over the TL500 > I couldn't get the TL500 to trigger external strobes using radio triggers - that plus the lens is MUCH sharper on the Canon. I must have a bad copy of the TL500 as finding a sharp photo in my 50+ test shots is pretty hard.
Why I picked it over the S95 > Hotshoe and articulating display. If the S95 had those it would win hands down.
Why I picked it over the P7000 > Articulating display is about it here if you don't take into account I already own several Canon Speedlites.
Why I picked it over the GF1 or EP1 > Size + Nikon P7000 comments.
Hope you found my review helpful - if so please click the link below!
Edit 30 days in: I would add one more negative - once you lock focus in video to start recording - that focus cannot be changed after the fact - disappointed in that.
Also - I dropped mine this morning =( from 4ft onto concrete. Surprised that everything still works great and as expected it got marred up and one corner's metal is a little bent - but it still works which is impressive.
