(More customer reviews)This is a lens that Sigma needs to bring back. It wasn't so handy when the majority of DSLR users were using crop-sensor cameras, but now that there are several "full-frame" options it's as big a winner as it was during the film era.
The range is limited to 2:1, so the optical quality is amazing. It's not like using one of those 5:1 zooms that comes with a melange of distortions and optical quirks. This is like having an excellent "variable prime" at your disposal. It's chunky, but not huge. The best thing is that it goes all the way to 40mm on the tele end. There are a number of wide-angle zooms that go up to 35mm, but 40mm is a sweet spot for me. I love using it as my "normal" focal length. When I had my Olympus stuff I loved their 11-22mm zoom because with the 2x crop it became a 22-44mm. That's a range that I can use for nearly anything. It's the handiest "walking around" range I know of without getting into variable aperture or a huge lens.
Grab one of these if you find one. Sigma really needs to update this lens with their HSM motor and re-release it.
