(More customer reviews)Make sure you have a compact DSLR or a spartan setup before you buy this bag because the opening of the main compartment is only about 5"W x 7"L. I think Domke's measurements include the outer pockets. I wanted a small bag to easily shove my camera into and still have an extra lens on hand. Well, my Nikon D60 and its attached 18-55 just about fits, sitting atop a 55-200 lens.
There are larger Domkes, but, many are soft-sided, with only a padded floor, and you need to buy inserts for side protection. I don't have much gear and I like the padding, so I'm OK with the F8 for now. I initially mistook the F8 for the F-3X Super Compact because it's not in Domke's main catalog. Turns out, the F8 is like the F-3X only with padding around all 4 sides as well as the floor - all tightly sewn in. Outside, there are gusseted non-padded pockets on 3 sides for smaller items, making the bag look and feel like a small soft canvas shoulder bag.
The olive color is much nicer in person and it's darker than shown. Comes with one small velcro-edged moveable divider. Front clip is too tight, but I'll forgive it because it's made in USA, it's not plastic, and it adds to the classic rugged Domke look.
5 stars for build quality, overall design and fabric. I love it! Minus 1 star for cabin space, even for the most compact of systems. For a bag that Domke says is made "for today's digital SLR", I'm not sure that many large ones will fit easily.
UPDATE Oct 2008: This bag will fit a Nikon D90 with an 18-105VR lens attached, but with its lens hood retracted or removed.
