The case has some padding along the inside which would help if you dropped it, but I wouldn't trust it to save your camera from a fall from more than just a few feet. There is a small compartment on the inside of the top flap which is perfect for holding and protecting memory cards. The outside compartment is kind of small, I can barely fit about 8 AA batteries and my camera's USB cable in there, so if you have a lot of accessories look for a larger bag. Overall, if you don't have a lot of equipment this bag is great, especially for the price.
