I took a risk by buying a linear polarizer for a dslr, which is supposed to require a cpl. To my great surprise, it works great, better than i thought it could even though i have not yet tested it in strong sun. My main concern was the AF system which i thought would fail if i used this filter. It didnt, pictures are a sharp as ever. I had read this on many sites but also heard stories of these "cheap" filters working on canon cameras. With a rebel xs and 18 - 135 is lens, everything works the way it should. I'm not telling anyone to stop listening to all the warnings but if u have the same setup i have, everything should be okay. its 20 dollars cheaper than the cpl and had 5 stars instead of 4 or 2. Great buy.
*make sure your lens does not rotate when auto focusing, this makes polarizers tricky to use

Light rays which are reflected by any surface become polarised and polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camara lens. They allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also saturate colors and increase contrast.Polarizers come in two variations but have the same effect. Linear polarizers work with older camera meters; Circurlar polarizers are designed for today's newwer slpit-beam metering systems used in auto focus cameras. Check your camera's manual.
