(More customer reviews)I own a Nikon D300S, and I bought the MKE400 as I was not satisfied w/ the results of the built-in microphone.
Simple to connect, easy to operate, it is WELL worth the money if you want better sound than the built in microphone on your DSLR.
One thing to watch out for is that the cord will likely get in the way of the viewfinder if you are not careful, and it is easy to:
[a] forget to turn it on (I have done this) and....
[b] insert the battery incorrectly.
Please note that I have not tested this w/ a dedicated camcorder.
All in all I would rate this an excellent choice for a photo-hobbyist getting in touch w/ their inner-Scorcese.
