(More customer reviews)This is a cool little item - it connects to the Hoodloupe to give an "eyecup" (the "eyepiece" in the photo is all you get). It's fairly easy to use (pull the rubber circle-cup off the hoodloupe, connect this and you're done. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the best designed (it's held in place with some jelly-like sticky material) - I would have preferred an actual connection like a screw-on connector instead of this, but it works fine.
It gives a 3x magnification which is nice - the selling point for me was the eyecup though. Being able to view the LCD even better in daylight (with the hoodloupe) made a significant difference to me (the eyecup prevents extra light from getting in around the sides.. especially if you have glasses).
It can also be used with HDDSLRs to record video (although the attachments sold to "connect" it to the camera are either expensive rubber bands.. or an expensive "crane" as they call it, which is about 3x the cost of this thing. I'm currently just using it as a loupe to review photos taken on a DSLR, and really enjoy it.
My big gripe is the price. The hoodloupe was already terribly expensive.. this is a little more than 50% the cost of that. Had it been cheaper, I'd give it 5 stars. At it's current price (which never goes on sale) I just can't give it more than 4.

The HoodMAG 3.0 is designed to fit where the original HoodLoupe 3.0 eyecup was installed. Remove your original HoodLoupe rubber eyecup by pulling the low profile eyecup up and off of your HoodLoupe. Mount the HoodMAG by pushing it over viewing end of HoodLoupe. HoodMAG has a tighter fit than the original eyecup and will stay in place once mounted.
