(More customer reviews)I got an email about this and was intrigued as I had been looking at the Nikon Coolpix P100 and Canon SX20IS which are around 100 dollars more. I looked for reviews and found 1 that seemed company sponsored because it was the same on many review sites. But I did find some that rang true praising the camera but when you say photography Samsung doesn't spring to mind. Finally I went what the heck, for the money, it was worth a try and the extra $20 for the package was a very, very good deal.
The camera came and I impatiently waited while the battery charged. When it did I started taking pictures. To test stabilization I took a picture of text on a box across a room in dim light at about 13x handheld and the text was clear as could be. Other pictures came out really well.
Nice features:
Warns when the lens cap is on.
Warns you to put up the flash when necessary.
Weighs very little, especially compared to my SLR film camera which weighed about 4 pounds with a 100-500mm lens.
Has tons of modes: Smart, Program, Aperture/Shutter speed, Night shot, Beauty shot(change skin tones) and several more.
It takes RAW.
Large 3" LCD or Electronic Viewfinder with diopter.
7 Flash modes, 3 macro modes(including a macro text mode)
26-676mm equivalent Schneider lens.
A frame grab feature that allows you to shoot a background, keep the border of the shot in the LCD, give the camera to someone else, get in the
shot. Then the person taking the final photo matches the border to the scene you shot. This way another person can take the shot with you it
exactly the way you wanted it.
This camera has more features than you could ever hope for, I could go on forever. This is the first camera in which I am investing time reading the manual. A friend who owns an SX20IS is jealous and I am a happy camper. I've owned many SLR film cameras, several point and shoot digitals and several video cameras over the years and I think this is a excellent buy all around. The LCD is not articulated like some cameras, but in my thinking that's one less mechanical problem. You have to print out the manual, I did it 4 pages to a sheet which comes out to 30 pages and put it in a binder. It is readable at that resolution and if you need it bigger you can always read it off the computer. I tried the movie mode briefly and it seemed fine, but as I bought it for stills mainly, I'm not that interested, the only reason I could see using it is to get a difficult shot. I have a Canon Power TX1 that has an HD movie mode and when I'm trying to get some shots where the subject is constantly moving, I use the movie mode and grab a frame using a software package. I got this tip off a photography show and it works nice.
If you been looking for a long length zoom camera this is a great deal, but you can't use it like a point and shoot, you have to stay steady or use a tripod for really long shots.
